Log into your MS account and cancel your subscription you will then be given the option to switch your plan back to the 'current subscription without AI' and not have a price increase. 👍
Now that I'm retired I no longer use any MS Office apps. I used to need them to be compatible with work but no more. I use Libre Office for all that kind of stuff now.
Yeah it's interesting this news is actually prompted me to start looking to other methods of using it. Not just the browser version if you know what I mean
There are already some telemetry options that can only be turned off with an Enterprise account. Microsoft doesn't seem to mind making the versions for professional use a little less shady as long as companies keep using them.
Yeah. Old school here. You could literally own the product FOR LIFE on a CD/DVD. One time purchase. And it would still do 90% of whatever you needed to do. The [only] thing that is going to save this world is less GREED and more EMPATHY, sorry god.
Yeah. All of that is pretty scammy. I have a real beef with One Drive, Google Drive etc. They keep wanting you to "save to the cloud" (by default)... it's very underhanded. I can't imagine why No thanks! It takes work to (try) and steer clear of their grip. The direction all this is gong it quite troubling. Cheers 1776
I bought cheap laptop to load it with Linux and start producing from there. I'll keep a Windows workstation for AutoCAD until i learn to use LibreCad properly, then I'll fully transition. But all my office and email work can already be done in Linux.
So, Microsoft's argument to increase the price is adding a feature that nobody wants? Wow! I wish people had the good sense to look for alternatives. Corporatists only hold power because we give it to them.
@@daviydviljoen9318 I want to buy an external server to save/store my files in, but haven't got a clue what to even look for. I don't suppose you could give me some idea where to start? I'd greatly appreciate some advice. Many thanks.
Yeah and even if somebody desperately needs a Microsoft account you can use the browser version or you can use the 365 word or one drive apps on a phone for free. Any screen under 10 in at least for now
They're beginning to realize that no one wants A.I. in their life and that's a huge problem because they've been dumping billions of dollars into it and getting no return on investment. The sugar high is going to wear off in 2025 and the crash is going to be painful. LibreOffice 4 life.
Libreoffice works great for all I do and it keeps me from having to support microsoft's empire. Maybe I'll switch to Linux at the end of the year. Microsoft has become a power driven greed machine whose interests are to force millions to buy new computers to replace perfectly working older ones so they can continue to build their monopoly.
Then I dont think Google Workspace is the right place, Google did the exact same thing 2 days ago - subscription went up in light of AI being baked in.
AI is such an odd entity, and invisible, yet it conjures up some kind of image in our mind's eye, e.g. HAL. The irony of it is that AI doesn't need food, water, or a bed to lie in, yet M$ wants to charge us more money for something which is in the process of making us all obsolete. At age 73, I can't help but feel rather relieved that I won't be around when AI starts thinking for itself.......I hope.
Well, aside from conspiracy theories..it sounds like Microsoft is following suit with Google who just announced a similar price increase for Business and Enterprise SKUs. And much for the exact same reason..AI is no longer being offered as an add on service but a core service bundled into their plans. So Copilot for Microsoft and Gemini for Google.
I am FUMING at this. Blatant money grabbing for a pitiful excuse. I am a gnats nuts away from cancelling the whole thing. If they were a reputable company they would have offered the stupid co-pilot as an option to choose if needed, but no, let's just whack a heap on the subscription, and possibly give you the option to downgrade - if you know that you can and if you can find it. Is this type of thing legal !?!
No one should subscribe to or buy Microsoft office products unless you are in business or enterprise. Basic MS office online or Google drive is sufficient for the average user, but as they say "to each his own". You report, folk will decide.
Copilot is Zero Value Add. This whole AI thing, from Microsoft and the others, appears to be just another attempt at their decades long effort to find some way to meter, and charge for, all use.
i guess libre office is now way more interesting!!! but since i git office for free with my éducation for éducation i will continue using office but fir home i might switch to libres office+ office 2019 one Time payment

Oops! Someone at M$ isn't going to like that one!😆
they've stopped this workaround unfortunately; I've just then decided to straight out cancel
@@soloflo It's not a workaround it is an option without AI, and the option is still available.
@@gga2694 Unfortunately it doesn't show for me. I requested cancellation and it only asked me to confirm. And then it cancelled.

Anything without AI is always the best option. Stay well.

Right-On! (can I still say that?). Me too. I'm finally glad to be old(er) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Good luck you whippersnappers
Same here. I was a science educator.
@ You will ALWAYS be a "educator"
The suckers will just pay up because they have been so conditioned.
MS is not getting any more money from me. I had already cancelled my Office and Xbox subscriptions months ago and moved to Linux. No regrets 😊
Yeah it's interesting this news is actually prompted me to start looking to other methods of using it. Not just the browser version if you know what I mean
Companies should tell MS: keep your 'artificial intelligence', we'll rely on real intelligence of our staff and demand the spyware/AI free version....

I never used it, never will.😊

Did Microsoft just flip us the bird?
Not really. They got people lined up, willingly bent over, literally asking for it.
@Bart0815-k8r Why not? I have to use windows at work, but I use Linux with all my home stuff.
Ridiculous. 99.99 was a lot already. Been paying for almost 8 years. Will be considering my choicees.
$99.99 was a STEAL considering the 6 TB of OneDrive cloud storage space it came with.
I knew this was coming. Once they have your data via OneDrive, it can be held for ransom.
I've stopped OneDrive from soaking up my personal files.

I wont pay for what I dont want
You would expect it to get cheaper with AI, but no.
That was the point I made in my own comment, as it works 24/7 without a salary.
What are the benefits of Copilot Pro now?
I'm assuming a higher profit margins for Microsoft ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They smell $ so there's no stopping them now Cheers Mr.T

Clippy also wants stock options and a 401K.
the other alternative to Microsoft 365 , is Office 2022 (One Time Payment)
Don't think there's a 2022. There's a 2019, 2021 and 2024, maybe the 2022 is a secret version ! 😆😆😆
Only-Office and Libra-office remain totally free. No AI scanning your documents either.
Nextcloud is a nice replacement for OneDrive. Does require server and some way to access it from outside your network.

I just renewed at $99.99. It’s been that for 3 years since I started it.
