  • Microsoft just announced Microsoft Copilot is now included in Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscription plans, and the prices of the plans will increase by $3 USD per month. What are we truly getting from this? Is Microsoft Copilot the same as Microsoft Copilot Pro? Is it worth it? Can we opt out from this price increase and getting no true value deal?

If you're not interested in Copilot, you can switch to the "Personal Classic" or "Family Classic" plan. It's the same plan you have now, at the same price, without Copilot. To do this, go to your subscription page and select "Cancel Subscription." You'll be given the option to move to a Classic plan. Some people say they also are presented with this option when they choose to stop recurring payments. The "Classic" alternative may not be available in all regions. I'm in the United States and did this yesterday. It was quite easy. For now, I still have Copilot access, but it will be removed when my subscription renews (at the old price) in June.

Thanks for sharing this detail, so we have the exact steps to switch to classic plan. Saving $3 each month!

In Brazil, the annual subscription doubled in price. The annual subscription now corresponds to 1/3 of the national minimum wage

That's insane. In Canada, the annual 365 family subscription has now changed from $109 CAD to $145 CAD. In US, it changed from $100 USD to $130 USD. What are the fees before and after in Brazil?

I just realized that I do need to switch to the "Classic" plan for myself too. Otherwise, when I do need to use Copilot, I will have to pay for Copilot Pro, while my 365 plan also pays the extra $3 for the "Copilot Lite", which is worthless. I imagine most people need to take proactive action to switch to "Classic" 365 plan, otherwise, it will be renewed automatically and being charged $3/month for essentially, nothing.

I have yet to have anyone tell me the benefits

I totally agree, and also the “yet” part. At this time, most people would not benefit greatly from it within Excel. For people who are not good with Excel, they cannot rely on it, as it is not reliable, despite it will generate results correctly majority of the times, these users cannot discern it. For people who are good with Excel, they can do it easily themselves instead of typing lengthy prompts. However, for some of the more challenging tasks, Copilot can help generate hard-to-conceive solutions, and the advanced Excel users can discern it and derive solutions from it that they would otherwise not able to by themselves. I do believe as AI continues to evolve, there will be a point, we can use AI in Excel and many other things on autopilot, just as now many people feel comfortable with self driving Tesla car 🚗.

There aren't any. At least Microsoft allowed me to permanently disable the unwanted CrapPilot in Word. Still stuck with it in Excel though. It generated an 'AI credit', whatever that is. I just want Microsoft to give me the option to permanently opt out of all of it's moronic AI features. I don't trust AI and I don't want to ever use it or have it on my PC.

I was calling it “Copilot Lite”😞. Your “CrapPilot” really tells how much you feel about it. I do not blame you for feeling that way 😂!
You did not generate an AI credit, most likely, you used one of the 60 allotted AI credits per month, while you were trying to get rid of it, it might be counted as one interaction with Copilot.

Hi , Instead of paying 30 USD for M365 Copilot or 20 USD for Copilot Pro, many users may find it more economical to pay 3 USD to experience Some Copilot capabilities.

You are right! Some people would never pay the $20 or $30 bucks at all and never use Copilot within 365 apps. Now in the new structure, some of them might be happy to get a taste of using Copilot by paying $3 more each month. Once getting them excited with the Copilot capabilities, I do believe quite some of them will upgrade to pay $20 each month to continue using Copilot. Microsoft is genius in this $3/Month “Copilot Lite” strategy👍😂!

I would not have paid a penny for a copilot or any family subscription .
