I was browsing for a wand through The Noble Collection (WarnerBros gave them the trademark for their molds of the wands they used on set), but realized they are all 15 inches and made of resin so that’s how I ended up here because I was searching for true wooden replica wands. I did however see someone ask if they are durable and NC replied by saying they use metal rods to sturdy up their wands, so that’s where my suggestion came from. But thank you for informing me it’s not possible and I went to the end of the video again and you’re right it would definitely cause the wand to break if you went through the middle with a drill, thanks for informing me because I plan to take a wood working class in college to learn this very skill and I would’ve definitely ended up using a rod!
@garricksapprentice a couple years late here. But you could split the wood to start, route of a rod or thin wire foe the center, glue back together, and then turn with rhat rod in rhe center.

I live in european mountains it is full of elder wood and in the summer we make elder syrup and drink it with mineral water , I actually made a wand with a bloody machete cuz I don't have tools, and I need to say that the elder wood is pretty hard to carve for a unexperienced carver and it is pretty hard in essence!

I've done a bit of lathe work. Both with wood and metals (As a machinist). My kids were wanting wands and I thought about buying myself a wood lathe (I wouldn't mind to have one anyways). But I was a bit concerned about working with something so thin. Then I saw this video and followed the trail to his Etsy account. I feel like his prices were very reasonable, so we bought some. If I think of it, I'll come back and give a review on our experience ordering them.
