Their wands, when combined tip-to-tip, create a Quidditch broom. George's wand handle is the broom handle, while Fred's wand handle is the bristles of the broom.
This has been a VERY intense 2 and a bit weeks or making and editing but I think I've improved my production a lot over this summer - I originally wanted to make it for April 1st but that was too ambitious and then it took an age to source some suitable dogwood from U.S.A! On the plus side I didn't get ANY copyright flags so didn't have to re-edit, re-export and re-upload anything! I'm hoping to make a couple more shorter videos but need to re-stock my shop first as I'm late and it's almost the Big C! I think I need a 200k views just to pay off the materials and replicas! lol I'm not going to financially recover from this video.....but hey Warner Brothers consider this a job application 🤝🪄
Excellent work as always, the amount of detail you strive for (and achieve) when making your wands is absolutely amazing. It’s really therapeutic to watch you work the wood and explaining what you’re doing. The improvement in your production skills is quite noticable in this video, too! Be well apprentice, really looking forward to what you’ll be making next!
Phenomenal work as always, Fred's wand looks like an absolute nightmare to carve. The darker staining looks a lot closer to the real prop too, the replicas are far too reddish. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the wands. :)
As a machinist, I've met quite a few guys with missing digits. I've had couple close calls myself. My old boss called those "the Hard Lessons, where you need a clean pair of shorts. You don't forget them." The chuck key joke did make me chuckle (ba dum tsss).
Arthur's and Fred's wands are my favourite so far on your channel. It's because you're not trying to make them from "the correct wood" but you make them from the correct wood, if you get what I mean. I mean you take the wood that already has the correct colour and texture to it so you don't have to paint them or make any other manipulations. You just polish it and get the perfect finish and it ends up very very beautifuly. That's exactly how the original prop wands were made for the movies
It's funny that you made the missing finger joke on this video, the prop maker (Terry Whitehouse) got a few nasty cuts when making the master copy of Fred's wand, apparently when carving out the 'pine cone' part of the handle. It also took him the longest by far to make. After that he swore to make less complicated designs. :P
@@cardenw ooooh this is very interesting - I don't know much about the original wands etc - can you shed any light on Fred/George's wands making a broomstick when touching tips? To me I don't see it at all, George's already looks like a broomstick imo
@@garricksapprentice So the 'both wands combine to make a broom thing' is just a fun coincidence/popular fan theory. In reality the wands were made by two different prop makers a few years apart (John Weller made George's, which was first used in Prisoner of Azkaban when they give Harry the Marauder's Map and Terry Whitehouse made Fred's which I believe didn't appear until the room of requirement scenes in OOTP(?). All of the Weasley family members' wands have very rustic, natural looks aside from Ginny who presumably got a brand new, more expensive wand as the youngest sibling. :)
@@garricksapprentice And yeah, I've always seen George's wand as a broomstick handle and Fred's as a Pine Cone. Molly and Arthur's give me homely vibes, they remind me of old fashion mallet/rolling pin/screw driver handles. Ron's (from HP3 onward) and Bill's look very similar to each other and Percy's looks a bit more ornate, like an old carved chair leg.
I think you eventually also need to make your "own" wand. A fully custom design by you, using all the skills you've picked up from making all the other wands.
I have the display with Fred and George's wands. They are my favorite characters in the entire series!! I was even able to meet James and Oliver at a comic con a few years ago. I think the most interesting tidbit about the actors/characters is that the actors didn't initially know which twin they were going to play. While Fred/James is the older twin of the 2 characters, Oliver/George is the older of the actors.
Omg I just saw that they're going to have the Weasley twin actors on food Network as part of the wizarding world cake contest which I would die to see that.
When my friend who also watches ur videos told me you lost a finger and I laughed thinking he was joking. And he said dude I am serious. Immediately turned on this video and was like oh my god. Well you can still do what you love though thank god. And supper sorry about your finger and glad you are back.
Welcome back Garrick. I understand that these must have been a pain in the arse to make (especially Fred’s with all those pieces snapping off), but they came out fantastic. I also know you have Professor Slughorn’s wand coming up, so I’ll look forward to that too. But since it’s the theme of the video with the two jokesters that are Fred and George, I’ll tell some HP related jokes. (These were in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix game btw) Knock Knock. Who’s there? Twit. Twit Who? Sorry, didn’t realise you were an Owl. Did you hear about the Squib who won a Million Galleons and asked for it all in small change? He was completely Knuts. How many House Elves does it take to feed a Dragon? That depends on how Hungary it is. Why did the Wizard take his Housekeeper jogging with him? Because it was good for his Elf. How many Slytherins does it take to feed a Hippogriff? Ten. One to feed it, and Nine to say that with their father’s connections at the ministry, they could’ve fed it faster.
Diricawl feather? Rather unusual choice for an Ollivander wand. I still believe that spruce is the best fit for Fred’s wand, at least if we interpret the handle as signifying that it’s a conifer (it can’t be pine, as you mention, nor can it be fir). McGonagall’s wand is fir, so I doubt Ollivander was particularly surprised when she got her mastery in transfiguration. Fleur Weasley, née Delacour, has a rosewood wand, presumably custom made for her since the core is a hair from her Veela grandmother. The ideal wielder of a spruce wand, according to Garrick Ollivander, is “a bold spell-caster with a good sense of humour,” which I think is a pretty good fit for Fred Weasley.
The “blood” on the floor gave it away for me. No where near dark enough for dried blood. You’d have been more convincing if you used a deep, deep brown like mahogany stain and added just a touch of metallic sheen to it (the iron in our blood). Then again, it could be all the years in Fire/EMS that give me that perspective. ;) Excellent work as always. I think the only thing I’d have done differently is to work backwards from the shaft to the end for the “pine cone” handle as I think it would have reduced the chance of accidental breakage. And maybe a superglue finish on the handle to help strengthen it a bit more for handling. Thanks for the content! Been a subscriber for a while now!
Well main reason was I was being tight and wanted a bigger offcut piece of rosewood, hence having the tip in spigot - but had to drill it anyway and meant I had more access around the pinecone!
