i automatically like the one you made more because not only does it just feel more realistic in how it looks but also cause the gem looks a LOT better than the resin one. also cause you cant see the big metal pole going through it lol
Soooo we're making the pink toads wand got it like lets be fr umbridge will always be the most hated witch to ever exist but the actress will always be praised.
Fr tho umbridge her self as a character is legit the most hated she deserves death lol but the actress herself deserves a nobel prize for how well she played as her character at the time like holy shit she did such a great job and got everyone hyped about the movie and books even more lol
I’m really enjoying the narrating and commentary. It allows your sense of humor to come through in a very enjoyable way. Keep it up, and hopefully it will get easier to edit.
I’ve just found your channel and as a crafty potterhead this is right up my alley! You asked for feedback on the commentary and I have to say I’m a fan of the chat! Thanks for all the effort and skill you put in to these- I’m totally fascinated 😂
If you want to use the rest of the birch you have you could use a polyurethane type sealer. It may help keep the valleys dark if you decide to just make what you can out of the wood.
Ive watched several of your wand videos now, I love them! Im just getting into the process myself. I just made my first wand from our old curly willow tree. I saved some branches after it fell last year. Using wet wood sucks. Tearout is a major problem, but so is flexibility! I did have to support the wood like you do while turning it down to final thickness, but using my off hand to support the wood while its spinning scares the heck out of me. Having the voiceover explaining the steps is quite a nice addition in my opinion. I thought the round stone looked much better than a hollow piece of glass with an obvious metal rod support. Thanks for all the great information, and the editing and camera work is top notch!
This is amazing! I'm so thankful for the algorithm finally showing me your channel and I can't wait to watch the rest of your videos... This is beautiful work and I just wanted to say that you could probably get that rose quartz smaller with some sanding although I'm gonna be honest it looks spectacular being slightly larger, grabs the eye better Edit: Sirius Black's wand has always been my favorite, probably because Sirius Black is my favorite
@@garricksapprentice that's a really good point, you could also talk to a gem stone company that might be willing to reduce it size for a small fee (I know one shop "Gem State Jewelry" in Moscow, Idaho, USA was willing to make gauged earrings for me out of Snowflake Obsidian if I could find the raw material because he didn't have any pieces large enough)
@@garricksapprentice is it possible to make wands out of accacia wood? I really want to have my own wand someday. I even made a mock up using scissors and one of those giant pencils as a kid haha
Commentary was SOLID. I appreciate you sharing some of the tips and tricks. I'm brand new to turning, and the template BLEW MY MIND. What wood/thickness/tools do you use so it doesn't blow out?
This is very impressive! I like how you also added the little rose quartz orb in the wand. Also i cant imagine any other wizard or witch that would have rose quartz in their wand. Its such an Umbridge thing
I find it incredibly rich that Umbridge has a rose quartz in the center of her wand because rose quartz is said Rose quartz is known as a healing crystal and the stone of unconditional love. It's believed by some to emit strong vibrations of love, which are thought to: support emotional and relationship healing. inspire compassion. boost feelings of peace and calm.
Vacuum-stabilizing rotten or punky wood with resin or Cactus Juice makes doing fine details way easier and helps prevent breakage. I've started doing it forcknife handles and spoons and it works a treat.
I really like the rose quartz you used and the wand you made looks so realistic! the commentary is great as well, like more insight on the thought process about the steps. glad I found your channel!
Sadly they added the metal bar running through the middle because the first wave of replicas were very fragile and they got a lot of complaints, it ruins the orb. Sadly they did the same with the pink crystal in Seraphina Piquery's wand. :(
Not only do you make beautiful wands that look better than the resin ones, your editing is spot on! Thanks for making such stunning wands and such fun to watch videos! Loved hearing you talk about the process. It's great to learn while watching the magic happen.
amazing work as always! But I must say that umbridges wand, has to be the most simplest but yet most fragile wand, but has an interesting look to it, it's not my favorite wand, but it is up on the list of interesting wands, keep up the good work, I can't wait to see the next one ^^
i love these videos theyre so cool seeing the process of making the wands id love to see hermiones wand or fleur delacours i would toats buy them !! awesome work!☺
Ok this was an awesome video, but did anyone else see the Voldemort picture in the microwave? That honestly freaked me out. I was like is that a reflection of a picture or something? It can’t be him become he’s higher up pressing the microwave buttons. Then i realized you put a picture of Voldemort of the inside. Genius man. 😂
You know what? As a perfectionist, I completely understand your disdain for how it came out. Personally, I find the subtle imperfections to be an ideal representation of who Umbridge was. She appeared to be a just follower of the ministry but was secretly brutal. So the chips and how discreetly asymmetrical it is aspect of it is a perfect metaphor for her moral compass.
the ''I must take more time'' on your hands made me laugh when I saw it. Love your work, it'd be great if you could make a sort of guide to get started on woodturning!
These wands are really impressive as always! I got a lathe myself recently and am wondering how you get your tools so sharp? When I touch my tool to the wood it chips pieces off rather than shaving it. Yours is like a pencil sharpener
dad said he use hand cranked grinder with gray stone. hand finish it with whetstone. He does not dare use electric grinders... too difficult to maintain original angles. REMEMBER those gouges' angles are not cut the same. Jig might help some.
I think you should remake this one you can avoid the bending problem by pinning it together through the rose quartz, the stone looks like it is opaque enough to hide a thin rod.
Watching this again, I find the rotting of the birth perfect for Umbridge (I almost said Umbritch). Perfect for the character, a hurdle for woodturning.
Would it have been at all possible to wear down the rose quartz until it's the size you need? I saw a video once of someone dumping marbles in a bucket of water and smooth stones and shaking it around and the marbles wore down with the shaking and still came out smooth and round. I'm not sure how exactly the process was done or how specific it needs to be, but I wonder if something similar could have been done here.
I've made spheres in the past, and that's pretty unlikely. Quartz is a 7 on the Moh's scale, and it even takes a while on the sphere maker to wear it down, and that's under pressure in the cutting cups with grit. Doing it by hand would take an extremely long time, and I doubt it would be perfectly round.
Amazing work as always Imelda Staunton did such a great job making Umbridge absolutely hateable in every single scene :P Are you planning to make Luna's first wand from Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood prince? (the baton-style wand decorated with oak leaves and acorns carved into the handle) Luna's actress was particularly fond of that wand and requested to have it replace the Tulip style wand they originally displayed on the wand wheel at the "making of" tour. :)
The official replicas are a bit of a pain to get a hold of as they're exclusively sold with the £125 "dumbledore's army" 6-wand collection, but there are some good references online (for the specific layout of the leaves/acorns) and the wand itself is very simple in design.
I'd lend you mine as a reference if I lived closer to your workshop :P mind you, the paintjob on mine's getting a bit patchy from handling, so it wouldn't be the best. @@garricksapprentice
Imagine making custom wands for people of the type of woods used in harry potter. Then take strands of white or blonde horse hair ,strings made of lizard leather or feathers painted like a Phoenix feather and letting people choose their cores. then drill a small hole down center of wand and put in the cores and seal it with a small plug. You could make bank from that. It's all make believe the magical power but imagine it's the closest we have to the real things and would be a cool collectors piece.
I think you should have used light amethyst instead of rose quartz... To be honest, I have a lot of trouble with 'making wands from the correct wood.' I'll try to explain why. It so happens that the original movie prop wands weren't made from the 'correct wood type.' The aesthetic aspect was much more important than following the canon. Starting from the length and shape of the wands and ending, in fact, with the types of wood. Most of the wands were made from valuable species or from rare and specially beautiful pieces of wood. For example, many wands were made of rosewood, in particular, Harry's and Draco's and Umbridge's ones. Ebony was also used very often. And the elder wand was made from english oak. Voldemort's wand was made, I believe, from some synthetic material so it can look like a bone. Hermione's wand was made, I suppose, from oak or walnut, and Snape's and Ginny's ones from ebony, etc. So it would be very very very cool if use correct movie types of wood, so you don't have to paint or stain them. Anyway very cool job you do, colleague 💙
Thankyou - yeah where possible I want to avoid staining, but I've thought about one day remaking all the known wood wands out of the correct wood again but left natural colour!
How long on average does it take you to make a wand, do you get really pissed off when something goes wrong, or breaks because of all the money and time you’ve spent on one? I know I would. Also I love it with a bigger stone like you did.

Most of the Umbridge wands I’ve seen actually have a pink ball in the middle so you can’t see the pole, but yes his wands ALWAYS look better.

Umbridge is hated because of the work the actress did, if she hadn’t done such a superb job, the character wouldn’t be evil enough to be hated lol
The actress has become one of my favourite actresses only because she made the character one of the most hated.
