I had the pleasure of being at several Sweet gigs at one at the Blackpool Mecca I shouted for a song. Steve Priest turned his back to me his jacket had ‘fuck you’ embroidered on it. Then he killed me with a wink of his eye. RIP Steve x

Well the Beatles are THE band that is still the greatest. Body of work tells you the quality. About 350 songs.
Sweet had something special that many bands don't. Drummer and bassist were in sync.

What a legend!! Met Steve after a gig March 1973. Such a lovely down to earth guy, I fell in love with him then and my heart still jumps a beat when I hear his beautiful voice now. He may be 71yrs old and looks a bit tired, so would anyone if they had worked as hard over the years. Most 71yr olds are retired but Steve is still doing what he loves. My only wish is for him to tour in England again. Please, please come back. Love you Steve priest. Sue. Xxx❤️❤️
Which gig did you meet him at? My mum met them in 1973 too on 31st March 1973 got their autographs and a drumstick 👍👍👍

The ravages of time hit us all and I should know I am of a similar age to Steve Priest but he had a look that drew you in. Even now when I watch their videos I can't take my eyes off him. Does anyone else agree?
He was definitely,what kept you wondering what he was thinking,and very good looking even into his 50s.He gave a lot of birds a run for their money I'm sure!Awesome guy,hope he keeps going like his music!

Steve wrote a book about the original sweet from beginning to end of sweet, there are the sad times and happy times in it, must say Steve has a great dry sense of humour, recommended for all sweet fans.

@@janeguest9201 I'd LOVE to get this book but it's out of print and crazy expensive. Does he talk extensively about the era after Brian left? Like about Cut Above The Rest and so on? I love Brian but I also love this later period of the band and it's rarely ever even spoken of.
Warren Hawk... I believe you can only get it in Pdf format now, and no it doesn't go beyond Brian leaving sweet.

Steve Priest was such a GREAT entertainer and would be fun to hang with. He, and the rest of the Band were taken advantage of by the horrible greed in that business. On the plus side, their music will carry on and WE know who made it great. My dog at the time was named Willie, who was a German Shepard - Collie that lived over 17 years, and I attribute that to us singing Little Willie to him, and I remember Willie when we did the Ballroom Blitz, wish I had a cell phone cam for those times.....Thanks Steve, wishing you the best...always!

People are criticizing the interviewer but Steve was clearly in no condition to give a 'dynamic' interview so the guy had to lead the conversation and amp up the vibe as best he could. Just be grateful someone was able to speak to Steve so late in his life.
You are SO right! From the start, Steve had obviously been napping, & asked him if he wanted to 'freshen up' & he said no... I truly honor & respet Steve to the fullest & that';s why he invited me into his home, but i knew he was lo energy & tired. ROCK ON SP R.I.P!

Also, when giving an interview, you might want to let the subject answer the question instead of cutting them off just to hear yourself talk. It's disrespectful to prattle on over the person you're supposed to be interviewing.

I don’t care how long it would have taken for him to get it out I would have rather him finish his own thoughts. I’m glad for the interview though because at least we have something.

Fox on the run on a 45 was my intro to Sweet. Hooked ever since!!
Well done for the great music and the hypnotic image that was the Sweet;not just the original line-up but throughout the history and of course,now. Excellent rock and pop muscianship,great songs by their writers but mainly to the Sweets own songs,I salute you.

I dismissed Sweet for years due to the bubblegum Chinn/Chapman hits, when I heard desolation boulevard I was gobsmacked as they were a hard rock band.

Nice interview. Such a great rock band. Much heavier if you see their live footage. The glam presentation was excellent too. Later echoed in the mid '80s glam metal era.

The Shadows influenced so many people - the list is almost endless! - and had they had the US hit with Apache, they would have cracked America BEFORE the Beatles. Steve Priest doesn't forget his roots and I'm sure Jet Harris would be pleased to know that he was just as influential in some ways as was Hank (and, indeed Bruce).
Hope he enjoyed whatever it was in his life that left him like this! Love the sweet, and his character in the group. Thanks for the music Steve
Absolutely the first song I ever downloaded back in the day of Napster was Ballroom Blitz from The Sweet. Later in the UA-cam era of music, I found Desolation Boulevard and it's become one of my top 10 all time albums. Such a fun band! And I love the hooks and hard rock sound. I contend The Sweet is essentially the first Heavy Metal band,. When you consider what happened in the 80's with all the make up, catchy choruses, wild costumes, and hard rocking sound, am I wrong for thinking The Sweet started it all?
Steve seems really cool. I wonder if he still makes those crazy eyes like he used to in those old performances. And I also wonder if he hits that freakishly high pitched vocal when he plays live.
I've sung Ballroom Blitz on Kareoke and struggled immensely with it. It was only alter that I realized it's a two man vocal arrangement. Brutal on one guy!

Exactly! I would die for a one-on-one interview with this man. I'm happy to see an extremely recent interview regardless though, good to see Steve still doing well and rocking.
backpages98 I agree. The problem is the interviewer is American. He probably got online with the Sweet in the late 70’s at the earliest.
Yes, just as the interview gets really interesting talking about Brian, the dickhead doing the interview let's it slip away.
I saw a Brian interview denying he was a drinker at all until after he left the band.
Even during that interview he slipped up when he recounted being more of a beer drinker in the past.
Brian's demise, which I guess was Sweet's, is something you don't get to hear about too much. And this guy had his chance and blew it.
And how hard would it be to not throw the dog in another room.
That chomping sound throughout was a little distracting.
I think Steve is the most interesting member of them all and I always get a kick watching his antics on stage.
According to a tv documentary that I have from the mid 90's while Brian was still around. He said that he,
and Andy Scott did not really get on. And another band member, I think, Mick Tucker, said, "If it came to
Fistey Cuffs" then I am leaving. Not sure if that was true, but it's sad to know when Brian was going through
alot of health problems at the time. Both Brian and Mick sadly no longer with us. Steve and Andy keep up
the good work keeping the "Sweet" alive.
Great interview with Steve Priest from the band i followed as a 13 yr old kid in 72 he sounds like a very honest guy no airs and graces would love to meet you Steve one day and have a chat and a brew.

God bless Steve, I was in my mid teens when "Glam" hit the scene. What I loved about it all was that you
all did not take it too seriously. You all knocked out some really memorable songs that will live on in our
minds 4 - ever. Glad to see you are still around to talk about your times with the legendary "Sweet" One
of my favourite bands from the early 70's and the main reason I tuned in every week to watch "Top of the
Pops" Just to see "The Sweets" latest hit record. You were all better than most other "Glam" artists of
that time. And you went on to do, what you do best, some quite heavy metal numbers after the "Glitter"
had faded.

Sweet was around before my time, but i was fortunate to have an older uncle that was really into their early stuff. It thankfully rubbed off on me, their first two albums were so powerful, then it seems to me that they lost some of their power. I remember reading back in the mid 80's that Ritchie Blackmore was going to be producing a new album from them. I waited forever to hear any follow up info, but never heard anything again. I think many people forget how big they were in the 1970's.
So sad to see these guys in this shape. Steve was so cute back then. My favorites Steve and Brian. They were my childhood memories as a teenager. Lots of fun memories to sweet music. 😋

Jet Harris: I took on the job of playing bass in a Shadows tribute, Lord I didn't know what I was letting myself in for. If that's where Steve started, that maybe explains his great playing. Very impressive player, wild singer, part of the best pop/ rock band of the early/ mid 70's. Rock on Steve x
It's funny both Steve and Andy go on about they thought Mick and Brian were the draw, looks wise. I must be weird I loved Steve's looks, that ginger hair and he had a lot of character and animation in his looks. Andy to when he had a beard, really cute.
Mick was a draw look-wise? Really?? I’m surprised by that. My friend and I loved this band, and we ALWAYS thought Brian and Steve were hot...hot....hot..❤️❤️Steve’s looks and personality were extremely attractive and sexy. He was always my favorite. Andy always reminded me of Droopy Dog.

How long was it this was filmed before Steve died. He doesent look very well on it loved all they guys in Sweet my favorite was Brian it is such a shame there is only Andy still alive now, I play there records nearly everyday it only seems like yesterday I had there posters on my bedroom wall, miss them so much. RIP Steve, Brian and Mick hope your still rocking up there together.
Poor interviewing technique. Asks a questions and then interrupts with further questions which tread on the replies.
They all do that nowadays,it`s infuriating,the interviewers want to be the star of the show instead of the guests..it`s so irritating.
I don't really agree. I think the interviewer was able to keep Steve' focused and moving in a direction. The interviewer was able fit in words Steve was searching for without telling the story himself. Not an easy interview, he knew his stuff too. His voice was a bit shity, that he can't do much about.

I never knew that the band was first managed by Paul Nicholas, who later went on to star in "Hair" and the 1983 BBC sitcom "Just Good Friends" before they signed a management deal with songwriting team of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman in 1970.
Please try to not to talk over the person you are interviewing. And asking questions that never end.
And why begin every question "Obviously ..... " Makes me sad that he agreed to be interviewed by someone who made interesting subject matter into an ordeal to watch.

aww so shocked i loved Steve and Brian, but i think the interviewer had a bit of a struggle, as Steve seemed tired and disinterested in the interview, was very shocked at how unkempt Steve was. Just another old man..nothing would show that he was a great Rock man. But still a nice unaffected man//he always was tongue in cheek.
Yeah, and that's the main thing. To know Steve is unaffected after all these years means everything to us, as he is the only link left now (other than Andy).

Actually, he didn't. He had the year dates wrong and Stevie is not well (or more likely did not give a shit) enough to pull him up on it. He could not even remember the label they were on when they were having their huge hits (RCA by the way and if the interviewer had done his homework he would have known that) I love Stevie and and the whole band. They are still my teenage heroes and they are part of the reason I became a musician. I still listen to them regularly and seeing him like this was painful viewing. RIP Steve and thank you.....
This could have been a good interview, but i stopped after painful 8:13 min listening to an interviewer who sounds so self entitled, rather listening to his own rambling and constantly talking over Steve - If i were him, i would have thrown him out of my house - Impolite and unprofessional.

Actually Steve should mention Bert Weedon whose Learn to Play Guitar in a Week books taught everybody from Shadows, Beatles Led Zep, even Eric Clapton. Bert put out records, instrumentals was all he did. A bit like Les Paul.

Ball blitz was a song written for the raspberries,. But it started with an introduction. Eric told me he known the perfect band. Chin received it from me. No one wanted to mention me, because of age, I was 10. If the bands would have put my name on the album, it my have killed rock and roll.

Jorgen Ingmann had the version of Apache Steve talks about and he was Danish, not Dutch it wasn't very good because he copied the pretty awful original English version by Bert Weedon which was put out before the Shadows, The Ventures in America copy the bad version too. The Shadows took the track, changed it around, and made it their own and many people think that theirs is the original.
