    The screwdriver looks good! You could see the PEXTO logo too. I think the patina in the wood looks good. I just did a wood handle on a wrench I was working on and did the same thing. I think you would have had to remove too much wood to get all the patina out if you would have chosen to do that. I really think the patina with the stain looks nice. I also was able to finally pick up some Minwax 209 Natural (Uwannawatch) and Minwax 231 Gunstock (ScoutCrafter). The store I was at didn't carry the BEHR line of products so I picked up a can of Minwax Polyshades Bombay Mahogany (357Magdad uses the BEHR). I really like that Minwax Polyshades, I think that stuff is great!

  • @patjohnson3100
    @patjohnson3100 2 місяці тому

    Nice save on the screwdriver. This must be a rare example. I notice that the the wooden handles attach to the central metal band. The blade, shaft and handle piece is one metal piece, which would make it very strong, and stronger than a separate metal shaft inserted into a wooden handle. Older screwdrivers frequently have tapered shafts like your Pexto. You don't see that on modern screwdrivers.

    • @Uwannawatch
      @Uwannawatch  2 місяці тому

      Thank you Pat! I don't see a lot of the Pexto out in the wild but yes they are extremely strong. I have used my little one on some tough projects and it always comes through. Take care Buddy.

    Do you know the history of Pexto? I only know the brand for industrial sheet metal machinery and tools.

    • @paulhunt598
      @paulhunt598 2 місяці тому

      Quick internet search answered my questions. I am not very interested in the era of tools that formed Pexto's history, so I am not surprised that I am ignorant and uninformed. Roper Whitney now owns the Pexto brand, which makes a lot of sense to me. Pexto has a storied history. This class of vintage hand tools, like your screw driver, is pretty obsolete. Old doesn't mean unuseful. I have 100+ year old tools in my daily user collection, think vises. The Pexto name is a relative late comer in their brand name history, but still is a very old name. Most of the hand tools that I found are of antiquated and vintage design and style, not very competitively useful to similar function tools that are available today. Thus helps to explain to me why I have never investigated the Oexto hand tool brand. I own a LeBlond lathe that I think dips back into the 1930's. It is still a very viable machine. I need more 3 phase capacity to run it, but its "restoration" is nearly completed. I have too many interests to invest time in salvaging a screw driver like you have done. I appreciate that folk like you care and give me an insight into our hand tool past.
      I am investing time in mastering some historic trade skills, but I freely blend modern methods and capabilities. Your screw diver restoration may pique some interest in a hand tool era where I have previously been dismissive.

    • @Uwannawatch
      @Uwannawatch  2 місяці тому

      @@paulhunt598 Glad you found the info Paul,
      Where these old tools shine is doing other restorations. My little Pexto is the perfect fit for most screws on old furniture where even my beloved SK don't seem to fit right. So I guess it just comes down to what you need. Take care my friend.
