Quite satisfying when you see the tools first come out of the rust remover solution - and the sound the ratchets make after being frozen for years - they're alive! Nice save George!
Good save George! When you pick up a ratchet that won't spin, you never know what you will find inside, or if the rust has done too much damage, but all those ratchets came out very nice! 😊😊😊
I have done a ton of those Proto ratchet rebuilds. I usually save the springs for last and use a small hobby tweezers . I use grease on the ones for work since it helps to keep the water and mud out when they get dropped in the hole or left in the bed of a truck. Its raining and cold this week, so im trying to find stuff indoors to work on. hope you week is good and you have a safe time of it!
Hey Patrick! I use my plumber's grease on the tools at work. I spent the day in a crawl space lucky me! It's gonna be cold and windy as all get out here. Hope you find some good indoor projects to do. Take care Brother!
Thank you my Brother from down under! It's always satisfying to bring back a neglected tool. That's a great idea.I think I will have to do that next weekend. Love to you guys and I'll catch up with ya later.
Great job restoring the ratchets. I've never tackled one but I have one to try so I appreciate the lesson. I am totally a DEOX-C fan now so thanks for that. Now that the cold is here how about a review of thw wood stove.
Thank You Mr. John! I think you'll enjoy working on a ratchet it's very rewarding! I'm glad you are liking the Deox C. it works fantastic and the price is a no brainer in my opinion. You'll see the stove going here shortly.
Thanks! I couldn't agree more! I honestly don't think I've even picked up a Ratchet made today off the shelf in a store. I would rather bring these ones back into service.
Thanks Brother! I am happy to have them all cleaned up and ready for action. Let me tell ya it was a cold day at the market last Sunday. gonna be real cold tomorrow. Take care.
Nice job on the ratchets! I was waiting for the springs to go "schprong" on the Proto.😮 However very nicely done! Thanks again for your efforts and see you next time. Stay safe as well!
Thanks Mike, Nope no "Schprong" I'm used to dealing with that kind of stuff at work. My issue was trying to get the "ears" to seat back in place. But we got there in the end. Thanks again for the awesome package! Take care and I'll catch up with ya later.
Nice job on all the tools I agree with you a tool should show the character of its life. I do the same as you , I try to bring them back to a serviceable condition. Great video, the out of frame part was even good I enjoyed it.
Thanks Dan! It's such a good feeling to get these old tools going again and that alligator is pretty old so it just got a nice clean up and will go rest on the wall. Sometimes It's hard for me to see what I'm doing and show you guys at the same time. LOL. I appreciate your encouragement.
Those ratchets came out great. 🎉 The alligator wrench was a big improvement even with the pitting still there. Sometimes we all have those wrenches that still give us "THE PITS" after we clean them up! Hahahahaha Great job.
Hey Stephen, Thanks Brother! The Pitts 😅. I didn't see any reason to go too far with it. I have a few more that are in better shape. Hope all is well and I'll catch up with ya later.
Thsnk you for sharing. I have an SK ratchet with similar issues that needs cleaning. Your video is not only helpful, but timely. I hope my results are as positive as yours.
It's personally very rewarding to restore a quality tool back to useful life, even if you never get a cent for your work. I just finished with a Proto half inch ratchet, and will just keep it. At 85 or so tools in that one batch of rust destroyer, you are very productive. Glad you're putting so many cool tools back in circulation. It sometimes baffles me why so many top quality tools are allowed to be neglected by their owners in the first place. I guess you just never know.
Hey Pat, You are so right. I bet bringing that Proto back was a pure joy for you to do. These tools are well worth the time spent. They are still great users after all the years. The S-K ratchets I was told they were pulled out of a barn that had a collapsed roof..Take care Brother!
Thanks Brother! I am very happy to have these ratchets back in action and the alligator wrench is at least presentable for going on the wall. Take care Buddy!
Good job brother I knew them Sk ratchets would be just fine when you got done with them SKs are tough takes alot to kill them the proto turned out awsome also thanks for sharing take care bro
Thanks Don, You're right about those S-K they are like little tanks. I am over the moon with how that Proto came up. Take care and i'll catch up with ya later Brother.
Hey !Bonjour George vraiment du très beau travail sur ces trois cliquets. La clé alligator est vraiment superbe. Ton produit pour ôté la rouille est génial et super efficace.❤
Hello Patrick, Thank You. I am very happy with how they all came back to life. The Deox C is from the UK it's made by Bilt Hamber if you are interested in it.
Thanks Brother! That Proto is pretty sweet ain't it? That's cool that you have Your Fathers I bet it's very well taken care of. Hello back from all of us! Hope all is good up there!
Guessing they were used only on square headed nuts and bolts. Sort of an early version of an adjustable wrench where one wrench fits all. But I'm open for clarification on my guess.
I really think that product came out really nice George Thing used to look like a rusty pc of steel looks like it's ready for work in good shape Like always Keep the faith Keep on rocking
Hey Roland, I'll try to show it the next time I work on one. Sorry I just didn't film it. I think it was probably after work so I just ran in the shop real quick and didn't grab the camera. Thanks for checking in Brother! Take care and I'll catch up with ya later.
Thanks Jefferey! I don't see a lot of the Proto either. That's why we don't mind putting a little work into the ones that we do find. I am seriously happy to have brought these back into working condition. Take care Buddy I'll catch up with ya later.
Deox C seems to be the way to go. Wonder it you could run the stuff with a coffee filter to strain out the crud. May not be worth it. Love the outcome. Love SK ratchets great save. That Proto is sweet!
Mike,Mike,Mike! I've been happy with the Deox C and you can't beat the price. Ya it could be filtered to last longer I'm sure. I probably should do that..You know I love me an S-K so I am real happy to get these back to work and the Proto is a sweet little ratchet i'm glad I could bring it back too. Take care Brother!

I really enjoyed the video, vintage S-K and Proto Los Angeles are some of my favorite old tools to find.

That clicking sound a ratchet makes, is like a sound of VICTORY!!!
Yes, Yes it is! Thanks Little Brother!

Thanks! You got that right Matt! There's nothing better than hearing that sweet sound!
I love the proto los angelos ratchet! Nice work! Three vintage ratchets revived from the dead!
Hey Kurt! Thanks Brother! Ya that Proto is a sweet little ratchet. It's a good day when you can put these vintage tools back to work.
It's funny - I always have trouble reassembling the SK ratchets, but do well on the Protos!
That is funny. It's weird how different people have different experiences with these.
