+Derek Smith 4:15 was worse for me! We do that warm up to tune concert F at our high school, instead of moving on to that series of chords starting at 4:18, we go straight into Phantom Regiment's hornline warmup.

Also, DCA is fun to follow, and it goes for a few more weeks--so drum corps season is not yet over. Will be fun to see what happens at DCA Finals this year. If I have the time I will go to some DCA shows to film warmups these upcoming weeks.

I use a Rode SVMP, though as I have stated to others, there are other products out there from Rode and other manufacturers that can give a comparable sound--including smartphone mics, and entirely self-contained field recorders. Really depends on your budget, and the specific features you want.

I'm using it only w/ cameras. But all my 2013 vids and one of my 2014 vids (USMC) were filmed using a very similar mic from Rode, the iXY... They were video and audio capture was done entirely on my iPhone. Had to modify an iPhone case to mount the mic forward and connect it w/ a cable. Not the intended use case, but it worked!
honestly it is all just about tons of practice and preparation and working as hard as you can at the audition camp, i have a good friend who made crown as her first ever year doing drum corp in 2015 cause she worked her butt off. anything is possible!! practice practice practice.....
