  • Olive said "We believe a healthy diet should include plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.
    In some cases a raw food diet can be used to fight cancer or other diseases, but we believe it's good to have a mixture of raw foods and cooked foods for a normal diet.
    Beans, garbanzos, brown rice, soy milk, and whole wheat bread are all nourishing.
    Green vegetables, steamed or lightly cooked are also nourishing and are found to contain protein. She says the first diet that God gave to us was grain, fruit, and nuts. After the sin of Adam, vegetables were added to the diet. And after the flood
    man was given clean meats.
    Many believe that in order to gain protein, we need to add meat to the diet but this is not true. Beans and whole wheat bread, taken together, constitute a complete protein. People who eat a vegetarian diet lead healthy lives and live longer"..
    (My own comment here) Olive never eats a large meal late at night, and most of the fat in her diet comes from a product called Vegenaise. She also informed me she doesn't take medication of any kind, and believes some of them are doing more harm than good. Especially antidepressants which she believes caused some of her elderly friends to commit suicide. As of today Olive is over 105 years old, and while she does have some physical challenges, she is still happy and socially active in her church. She has a sharp mind, loves talking to people, and loves talking about the bible. Warning. If you dare to talk about religion with Olive, you had better plan on staying a while. She has no shortage of words when it comes to her religious beliefs and faith in God..

      She ate a healthy diet of mostly vegetables and fruit, very little sugar and meat, and probably never any processed food like so many Americans do that is full of chemicals and junk not fit for consumption. She even made her own bread from scratch, grinding the wheat which assured it was fresh and unprocessed. That along with exercise - rode her bike until she was 95 and then rode a stationary bike inside after that. Had a healthy happy marriage and tried to follow God's plan for her life. Clean healthy, happy living and staying close to God makes a big difference! So sad so many people don't follow this type of living. It makes SUCH a difference! Sooo appreciate this beautiful inspirational interview. THANK YOU!

I especially like when you did not PATRONIZE her at the end. I think many adults start treating the elders like children. You were very honest in your response when she asked if she looked the same in her pictures When she asked your opinion I do not think she was begging for a compliment I think she was asking for your opinion and you gave it. I Loved this interview.

    I'm not surprised that she was raised Adventist. Their diet has been studied and found to be extremely healthy. There is a huge difference between the more natural diet of people before the 1960's and our over-processed, genetically modified, antibiotic and hormone riddled diet of today. I think we have to work harder to find natural foods if we want to be healthy and live longer.

  • @silvrgurrl7844

    Thank you for sharing this lovely interview. I just turned 40, and have been living with chronic pain & health conditions that have forced me to confront my mortality in very tangible, real ways! I feel like I've lost a decade of my life to these problems; one day I was 31, and the next day I was suddenly 40! I feel like I'll be lucky to live to 70! I'm trying to find a way to change my diet- a plan that I can realistically follow- while working, parenting kids w/neurological & behavioral disorders, and managing my health- along w/all of life's little details. It seems so daunting to eat healthy, when you don't have time to cook! But I really want to do it. I feel better when I eat clean, I know it's better for me.
    I enjoyed listening to Olive share about her life. Even when I was a young girl, I had many friends who were older. My grandparents lived in a neighborhoodfilled with couples in their 60's, whom I got to know because they were all friends and part of the same church. They took us kids on waterskiing trips, camping, etc. I've always enjoyed listening to their stories! I have a card that one woman gave me at that time, in which she thanked me for not treating the "older" folks any different than I did friends my own age (I was about 12-13 at the time.) That meant a lot to me, to know that they could see how much I enjoyed their friendships- that I didn't see them as any different!
    Anyway, just wanted to say thank you! I think we should follow other cultures in treating our older people better. They have so much wisdom & value to offer. Often it seems that our society ignores them, or even views them as maybe not having as much worth? I know as a woman, it's definitely hard to feel like your worth had a shelf life, that expired at 35!

      @eveny119 7 років тому +4

      Actually a study of longevity stated that vegan/veg. live about the same age, I think it said just months difference. But they died from different causes. I don't know the other details, like where and how many in the study but I found it interesting.
      I believe its more genetics... look at her kids, they look 30 but are seniors too. I wonder why they didn't ask about her siblings?

      She clearly stated that she ate meat, including fish. Also, Seventh-day Adventists are vegetarians (still eat dairy/eggs). You can usually get away with not eating meat, once you get older, but all babies and children require animal products (milk) to get the nutrients they need to grow up.

    • @justylex
      @justylex 6 років тому +11

      Her longetivity likely had far more to do with genetics than diet. My grandma was 98 when she died, her brother 99, her sisters 107 & 108. They all ate meat, dairy, and eggs. They did not eat a lot of processed food, and they did not smoke or drink alcohol. Good genes, and some wise lifestyle choices to compliment them.

    • @asapkpoptv5352
      @asapkpoptv5352 3 роки тому +1

      @@clearmist7170 Actually she said when she was younger she grew up eating those meats. As she got older and more knowledgeable about nutrition, she changed her diet. She said she doesn't eat dairy and occasionally eats chicken. That means the majority of her nutrients are coming from plant-based foods.
      According to the World Health Organization, a properly planned vegan diet can be suitable in all stages of human life. This of course is with the exception of infants who need formula or breast milk but there are also soy-based formulas. Humans don't need animal products, we just need nutrients, which can be found in plant foods.

      +Josh Graham That's absurd, unless the drugs are somehow keeping him in a vegetative state on life support. And there is a dangerous withdrawal from these toxic drugs that shouldn't be confused with someone "needing" them to live. Nobody needs pharma "meds" -- if they work at all it's just to cover up symptoms while causing a myriad of side effects and keeping a condition chronic. Plant-based foods and herbs actually cure, and exercise is the key to maintaining health, not Big Pharma's poisons.

    • @Chimonger1
      @Chimonger1 7 років тому

      +Temple of the Animal Souls , Seriously?! Are you into Scientology? Get real...visualize all you want, but please avoid trying to convince people to 'throw away their crutches', lest you be perceived as a snake-oil salesman, or worse.
      There are ignorant people who really are sick, really need medications, who will read what you wrote, and try to cold-turkey off the meds they require to stay alive, or keep functioning, because they want to believe they can get by without them, too..._without even learning what else they can do to help their conditions!_
      I have been a strong proponent of natural/alternative health for over 60 years. And, completely understand that some people require pharma drugs to stay alive.
      Insulin for diabetes is one of those ...unless/until we know how to cure that, they will continue to require insulin that their body cannot make. There are plenty of conditions which Pharma drugs can help, because there's no known cure.
      _There are also hordes of Pharma drugs and treatments which might be bogus profiteering gambits, and other bad things_.
      I know there is too much that Allopathic medicine FAILS to look at. They are mostly clueless about nutrition, & in utter denial that food and herbs ARE medicine & can cure diseases.
      There are the politics of the military/industrial complex, which is what's running the gov'ts.
      There's plenty that derails people from practicing healthier eating habits, and away from using natural medicine to help themselves.
      But, unless we can find ways to really cure the majority of sick people [which is most of any given population, in developed countries, for instance].... Not holding my breath on that though, since industries promoting junk people don't really need, that pollutes and sickens while protecting their companies by hiding real data, bogus researches, worse media reporting, and so much more...
      *Without correcting the bad paradigms which have been let to run amok for so long, there's not going to be real healing, only "bandaids".*
      Until there are some really good changes, the Pharma drugs will continue to be necessary to keep some folks alive and/or functioning.
      We need far better paradigms than those heavily promoted by industries for so very long.
