    This was a very intriguing and yet almost a "carboncopy" of the Ramsgate Murder Mystery. The only differences seem to be is that Julia Wallace didn't have a devoted dog and Julia's husband, William wasn't a particularly healthy man. I can't comprehend this being a robbery only, I believe this was a murder and robbery was used as the motive. I know that it was said they didn't believe Julia had any enemies but obviously someone didn't like her or else she wouldn't have been so cruelly murdered. I wasn't surprised that William ultimately wasn't found guilty, but I thought he would've been charged and given penal servitude. Did William gain financially from Julia's death? Great investigation, presentation, backstory, illustrations, photos, and videos, too. Take care 🦋 P.S. I wish Scotland Yard detectives would have been brought in to solve this case.

      @newsofthetimes  26 днів тому

      Yes! We think so too... 👍The neighbours though had a dog that barked easily and did not! So there is that similarity too! No - he did not gain financially. but - and we did not put this in because it was after his demise - he had a close relationship with his housekeeper. We do not know if that began after his death or before. Historically, there is speculation that it was a robbery gone wrong, but we are unconvinced. As for the enemies - it was speculated that he had enemies. She rarely went out - we do not know how she could have developed enemies.. Hmmmm. 🤔

    Wow!! This case IS VERY similar to the Ramsgate Murder Mystery case!! Both wives were much older than their husbands, both husbands were well respected in their communities, and both couples were considered happily married by their neighbours!! Both husbands had neighbours with them when they discovered their dead wives!! One could imagine that the murderer in the Wallace case copied the Ramsgate murder!! It's all VERY odd indeed!!
    Wallace seemed to have VERY supportive colleagues and employer!! Many people in his position would have been sacked on the spot!!
    The prosecution's suggestion that Wallace could have committed the crime NAKED seems rather far-fetched to me!!
    I suppose we'll never know the truth about Julia's death - unless a modern day Sherlock Holmes or Miss Marple solves this crime!!
    Thanks for yet another EXCELLENT video, Robin!! 👍💕👏❤

      So nice to hear we are not the only ones! Did the person read the Ramsgate case and use it as a template? It is possible! The whole "I can't get into the door as the neighbours are leaving...it just seems so contrived as well. Hmmm. 🤔

    Hi. Thanks for this. These are only very small points. My understanding is that the cafe the message was phoned to by the supposed 'Mr. Qualtro', the potential new client, was attached to the chess club he sometimes frequented. Also, he travelled by tram or bus to this fictonal address & during the journey asked the conductor where said address was. I learned a lot of new details from your account. Thanks again.

    • @newsofthetimes
      @newsofthetimes  26 днів тому +2

      ooooh! A crime historian! From what we can see - the chess club actually took place IN the cafe - that is what it looks like in the pictures. For the chess club - he was on the roster whch was printed up for all to see as it was a scheduled chess match. Yes, he did indeed ask the tram conductor, as well as a policeman and he went into a newsasgents - all to ask for directions / clarification. Oh yes, and he viisited the address "west" - so the worng house - so that is four verifications. Interesting. He was supposed to be quite good at chess - so a clever man and someone with an ability to plan ahead as that is what a good chess player requires. Lots of "if this happens, then i go there"etc. It is also so incredibly similar to the ransgate murder 40 yrears before which remained unsolved - it is like a template. A strange case. We do not believe for a moment the whole "robbery gone wrong". 🤔

    • @helenflynn96
      @helenflynn96 26 днів тому +1

      @newsofthetimes If only I was worthy of that title! I'm afraid 'slightly obsessed amateur' would be more accurate! I don't know what it is about that particular murder that fascinates me. If there were a thousand podcasts on it I'd gladly watch all. Yours is the fourth for me. I also don't believe in the 'burglary gone wrong' theory. Other potential suspects' I have come across is the neighbours, as they moved house the following day. I don't hold this view. Although Mr. Wallace had nothing monetary to achieve by Julia's death, I believe he did it. He went overboard to make sure he had an alibi. What puzzles me is how did he get rid of the blood from his clothes/body. Apparently the drains were examined and they did not have blood in them. But it was 1931 and maybe there was a margin of error there.

    • @newsofthetimes
      @newsofthetimes  26 днів тому

      @@helenflynn96 Interesting! Speculative rumour had it that he a thing going with the housekeeper when he moved. Was there a relationship? if so, did it exist prior? Or was all of this just nasty speculation. We are drawn back to his being, by all accounts, a good chess player. That gives him a real edge in pre-planning. And, of course, the Ramsgate murder we posted from the week before is a mirror of this crime. It would make sense, if one were planning a murder, to take a look at a murder where the perpetrator was not caught, It had taken place only some 40 yerars previously - so it is not like it was from the depths of history. We also heard about the pipes showing no trace of blood. Interestingly though, one of his keen hobbies was botany / chemistry. We know nothing of this BUT, we are assuming there is somethingthat could be placed in drains that would absolutley wipe them clean from the inside. As for the clothes - we do not know. There, we are stumped! 🤔

    • @helenflynn96
      @helenflynn96 24 дні тому +1

      It gets more interesting - an affair! I doubt that as he seemed to have been 'relationship free' after he was released. Of course they could always have gone their seperate ways by then. I had totally forgotten that he had knowledge of chemistry. It's very likely he knew how to
      'doctor the drains' as such. Much and all as I think he did it, if I was on that jury I'd acquit. Not enough evidence to send him to the gallows. Such an interesting case.

    • @newsofthetimes
      @newsofthetimes  24 дні тому

      @@helenflynn96 We conpletely agree - the jury had no choice. You can understand the frustration of the police. We still think there is value in the ties with the Ramsgate case - they are carbon copies of each other. Why make something up, when you already have the template? The Ramsgate case was very well kown at the time and only some 40 years before. The dog not barking, although supposedly it would bark at anything, is the clincher, we think. 🕵

  • @iggit2
    @iggit2 27 днів тому +1

    Not sure what to make of this Robin but the fact that the crime seemed soo personal with the face being the focus of the violence, leads me to believe that he was guilty.. however, with the lack of hard evidence, I understood the Judges decision to drop the guilty verdict. Sad that Julia Wallace never received justice in this life. Well done as always.

    • @newsofthetimes
      @newsofthetimes  26 днів тому +3

      we agree. we think he did it. He was obviously a clever man, being quite good at chess. The timelines are incredibly tight - like the Ramsgate mystery.
