Mary Ann Cotton - Serial Killer Saturdays
Mary Ann Cotton is still renowned as one of England's worst serial killers. Accurate numbers are difficult, but estimates have her killing some 20 people, including her mother, her children, stepchildren, and 3 out of 4 husbands. The reason was financial gain, but she also seems to have struck when she got tired of the person. The deaths were agonisingly painful. A rival to Palmer or Burke and Hare.
Hosted by Robin Coles.

thank you! Really glad you like our episodes!🙏
So interesting that you read from the newspapers of the time. It gives us a real idea of what the sentiments were at the time.
How kind! Thank you1 We ike to try to see the cases in "thier eyes" rather than transleted into our world. We really apopreciate your kind words and support!🙌
Yay a longer one 😁
😊 The length kind of depends on how much material we can get a hold of. .. we always aim for about 30 minutes, but sometimes, especially with stories from the 1700's, it is not possible. 😊
@@newsofthetimes oh, of course I understand 😎 🖤

What a truly despicable woman, Mary Ann Cotton was, to poison her husbands, children, stepchildren and even her own mother. I'm glad she received the death penalty, because I almost thought they were going to give her penal servitude instead. Was she mentally insane or just a horrific human being? Great investigating, presentation, backstory information, as always. Take care 🦋
Our vote is a combination of both. It sounds like she did not really take responsibility for what she had done - she really did expect to be reprieved. She also tried to explain the poisonings away as an accident. Although many times the deaths were for money, other times it sounds like the poor person just got in her way or she was annnoyed with them. Our vote is that she is up there as one of the more evil ones we have covered.
She was born on Halloween!!
Creepy......
