You can save pyro merchant quickly by jumping off first roof on the slug tunnel roof (before bonfire) then throwing firebomb blindly onto air and it will hit and release him when you see hp bar you can return back. (its about 15-20 degree angle from right to left when looking at bonfire from the roof and he is closer than you think). Also if you land on slug you will slip and fall on roof edge making you reset attempt fully so delay your jump a bit. Edit: You also have easier dupe by pressing quit game same time as inventory its more clear and doesnt have sequence of buttons you need to press.
I appreciate all the information shared! I'll never understand why give the player pyromancy if there are bosses immune to it, forcing to rely on something else; then just don't give it to the player
As implemented it doesn't feel that good, but immunities aren't the worst. I imagine part of the developers' expectations were that pyromancies don't rely on character level thus making it easier to level other stats and have something else to rely on. At the very least, though, it would have felt better if there were things like Black Flame earlier in the the game to more naturally overcome fire immune obstacles.
For better or worse, that feels like Souls quests in a nutshell. Thankfully it's not bad once you know the triggers and upgrade a Pyromancy Flame before visiting and before taking out Bed of Chaos.
Most of the stuff is actually from watching other content with a lot of inspiration from speed runs. Ymfah has some great stuff and the rest of the souls community is awesome so you can usually search around pretty easy. If there's anything in particular though, I like making videos too! There are plenty of glitches to cover so input on what people would like to see would be amazing.
Interesting. I just tried to replicate real quick and couldn't. Usually when you have DSR Gadget open with "No Death" you still lose hp, but apparently not from fatal falls, so that's likely what happened here. I likely had it open while testing things and didn't think anything of it since you still usually take damage. I wish it was that easy, but at least the run to Manus doesn't really matter for the principle of this run. Sorry if it was misleading!
@@keiferjh You could have done a similar thing with a "fall control quit-out" anyway. Just a bit more inconvenient since it can be hard to see the puff of blue smoke through the menu. I used it to leave an out of bounds message on the Anor Londo lift, and also to more easily descend the Great Hollow. Fall control delays the "YOU DIED" screen by about 1/2 a second after your character pancakes the ground, and this allows you to quit out during the death animation, cancelling it when you resume the game. Unlike normal death quit-outs, which lead to the character instantly dying again on resume (due to having 0 hp), fall control ensures no hp is lost, so you can resume as if nothing had happened, from your newly lowered elevation.
I haven't played around much with fall control quit-outs. I hadn't thought about using it for the Great Hollow, but then again I also don't go down that far to begin with. Getting the Chloranthy Ring is nice but also a much shorter fall. I'm sure there's plenty of cool applications so thanks for bringing it up!
Doesn't the Manus Catalyst also scale with strength? So if you got both Int and Str up to 99, wouldn't you be doing more damage with Manus Catalyst instead of TCC, especially with black flame? Looks like you're gonna have to redo the run, sorry bud.
I've done a bunch of testing in the past and I don't believe TCC was out scaled, at least for regular pyromancies, even with any Strength contribution while Spell Swapping. The interaction is complicated enough with just sorceries so it'd be easy to see it being interesting for pyromancies, especially with Black Flame as you pointed out (which I most certainly didn't test yet). That's the fun of it though! I'll have to take another look as you've got me curious again!
A quick test shows that TCC is still better for Fireball (and thus probably all pure fire pyromancies) but Manus Catalyst can do more with Black Flame. Testing on Quelaag shows that it adds more physical damage (as you'd expect if it were to add anything). It still wouldn't be anywhere near a one shot but would indeed have made it better!
You are thinking of the dark sorceries like dark orb and dark bead, those do magic damage that scale with the catalysts int... But also physical damage that scale with the strength... It's actually why Manus Catalyst has such high strength, its literally made for dark spells
@spicywtrmlon That's why it was interesting how it'd interact with spell swap! It does seem to work in the most logical way; the strength contribution does add to the physical damage of Black Flame but does nothing for other pyromancies. So while it was made for dark sorceries, the Manus Catalyst is also good for spell swapping Black Flame!
I've not personally tested on console, but both relevant glitches should be possible as long as it's Dark Souls Remastered. First is the "Quantity Usage" glitch that allows you to use more of an item than you actually have, which can then be used in conjunction with an actual duplication of the items you have. I have videos on both, which while focused on PC should only have minor differences from the controller examples. Or I'm sure there are plenty of videos with Console specific footage if something isn't obvious.
What are your thoughts? For me it depends on context. With a first playthrough it'd feel like a cheat but in a lot of other circumstances it's just a glitch since it is part of the game. If it relied on a tool or something outside the game it'd stay feeling like a cheat more often. It all comes down to what "rules" you're playing under.
@steve_exp Both are a result of the Spell Swap glitch! Essentially you can trick the game into casting a spell (sorcery, miracle, or pyromancy) when you normally can't if you time it with a spell you could cast. This includes using an "incorrect" tool!
