The reality is that bodies are 3' below the surface in the casket, maybe 2' below in an urn. That said, the casket takes up the other 3'. So when they say 6' under, that includes the casket but if you dug a mere 36" you would hit the top of the casket. I think "stepping on graves" is a bit overblown having been to 100s of them as you simply do not know how the bodies are laid. Some are sideways, some are not even there, some have been misplaced or not documented correctly. But this is a cool find for sure.
I worked in a cemetery one summer and dug a grave every week. None were 6' deep. That's a myth. And it doesn't mean any sort of disrespect to stand on a gravesite. If it did, how would we mow the lawn? Now, standing on the stones themselves; that's probably in poor taste. I believe you respect the dead by how you live.

When I was in LA about 20 years ago, I sought out this cemetery as I wanted to see Marilyn Monroe's grave. As he says, it's down an alleyway and I disturbed a homeless man who was hanging out. It's truly amazing the amount of stars buried there. Natalie Wood, Dean Martin and so many others. I spent an hour or so and very glad I took the time out to locate it.
The year Farah Fawcett died the academy award ceremony refused to include her in the list of stars that passed away that year as they considered her work in television not sufficient to include her with the movie industry stars. I have not watched the academy awards since.
Well, to be fair, Fawcett was really a television personality not a "movie" icon. The Oscars is for the movie industry. And they stick to those in that industry. Whether it was an actor, or someone behind the scenes, be it a director, camera person etc. If they included everyone in the "business" that passed in that portion of the show, the show would be time crunched. Unfortunate, as everyone should get their couple seconds, but its just not possible. What about a Lighting Tech who mostly did TV, should he be included in the Oscars thing also? Not being included in the Oscars portion, doesn't take anything away from her or her career. Shes still beloved, and remembered.
I never remember seeing a lighting tech mentioned in the Oscars with those who died during the year. Fawcett was an actress and as big or bigger star than any other who died the year she did that was mentioned.
Also, Fawcett was in a lot more movies than Michael jackson who was in only one movie. she was in plenty of movies, including "Dr. T. and the Women," "The Apostle," "Man of the House," "See You In The Morning," "Extremities," "The Cannonball Run," "Saturn 3" and "Logan's Run."
Looking at all those gravestones, you touched on the memory of a handful of people but I always think of all the other people nobody remembers. They were born, they were loved, they lived & had triumphs & failures… Now they’re gone & they’ve joined the scores of billions of men and women since the dawn of time who’ve gone before them, forgotten. Nothing last forever. Think of all the moments of heroism and villainy, love and survival lost in the river of time. All the songs and stories that were so important for their time and place which disappeared like soap bubble after a decade or ten.

I managed 2 cemeteries for 10 years and believe this guy did an excellent job on this video, very respectful from his attitude to the tone and level of his voice. Its easy to get excited and raise your voice when surrounded by so much talent. As far as walking on graves, sometimes its just necessary (how do you think its kept so beautiful) graves are walked on and driven over by people and equipment all the time. The disrespect come in when people do things intentionally to mess with graves. It is polite to keep to the pathways as much as possible. Oh, and you don't actually own a cemetery plot you pay for right of use and maintenance. Its like a gated community for the dead, most cemeteries have rules if when you can visit and what and how you adorn a grave, everything from marker size, shape, color, placement, plants, flowers, how long decorations can be left. Some cemeteries let you do just about anything as long as it is contained to your plot and others don't allow for anything other than flat markers and no decorations past 2 weeks after burial. Its better than some countries where you only get 7 years then they remove the body and dump in a mass grave. Unless you want to fork over a ton of money. Not to mention just because there is a marker it doesn't mean the person's remains are there it may just be a memorial marker. One last note: PLEASE if you visit a cemetery or memorial garden and you see trash, pick it up, thanks.
I tell all my friends any family that when I die just throw me in the nearest river. Let the fish and turtles eat me. I'm dead and they need food. I won't care because I'm dead. Save the money from a funeral and have a party instead.
@JoAnna Edssay because cemetary plots are rented. Most places have a time limit from anywhere between 5 and 99 years. Land iis at a premium !! Sick but true.
@JoAnna Edssay I believe that in Greece bodies are often only kept in the ground for three years. Part of the reason is overcrowded cemeteries and the recession that hit the country. Things might of changed since I read about it a few years ago.
Carl Wilson from The Beach Boys is buried there. He had the most beautiful voice! He died at only 51 from cancer. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions and he was such a sweetheart.
_"Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea_ _All we do crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see_ _Dust in the wind_ _All we are is dust in the wind"_
Out of all of them, I probably miss Roy Orbison the most even though he passed away long before I was even born I just miss his energy and how nice he was.
Nice and respectful.....One small point, though -- Mr. X stated that Sigrid Valdis portrayed Klink's secretary Helga, but Helga was the secretary's name during Season 1 and she was portrayed by Cynthia Lynn; Sigrid (whose actual first name was Patricia) took over beginning with Season 2 and her character's name was Hilda.
Adam, I just want to say, I've been watching your videos for years. I find it so inspiring that you basically dedicated your life for entertaining us, the fans. You highlight the mostly unknown and obscure locations found all across America. This is definitely one of my most favorite UA-cam channels. It saddens me that you are so underrated, you deserve at least a million, if not more, subscribers. Keep going strong man, you're doing your job and you're doing it great! Thank you for all the years of entertainment, and thank you for the years of entertainment to come!
I came here by chance. Glad I did. I watched the entire video. Fascinating. For the sake of the 'amazing history' business (I'm an interpreter of history myself)...It would have been great to start off this tour with the name of the place we're looking at. Westwood Village Memorial Park. And as a history researcher and genealogist in the Midwest....I must say...this is the most humble cemetery of the most famous people in the world I could ever not imagine. Yes, the close bronze plaques, cremains. Truman Capote, Bette Davis, Zappa....the adored Burt Lancaster, wow. Thanks for showing me, Adam.
Man, you are so not wrong about this place being "hidden". I visited many years ago now specifically to try and find Marilyn's grave. Got lost on the way there, and found another group of 'lost' people on the way too. None of the tour guides in the area even knew where it was!
I was out at Westwood Village back around 2000-2001 and I remember it being very quiet and empty, in that, I was the only person visiting at that time. I walked around the cemetery for about an hour or so, seeing the names of Burt Lancaster, Jim Backus, Walter Matthau, and many others. I saw Marilyn's grave site on the second level on an outdoor crypt and vocalist, Mel Torme's redish colored headstone and then actress, Eva Gabor's burial spot. Short story.... I remember looking down at Eva Gabor's marker and feeling like I was being stared at. I turned around and there was an older woman, sitting on a small bench, underneath a tree, as I recall, knitting or crocheting. She looked like Zsa Zsa to me, if not, then maybe some other relative of the Gabor's. She smiled and so did I, but not a word was said. I always wondered who she was, but I guess I'll never know. Anyhow, I liked the cemetery and plan to visit there again one day.
Loved reading your comment ! I'd like to visit Westwood Village myself someday ! While down there, I'd try to visit the Hollywood Forever cemetery too, where so many other celebrities are buried or interred.
I still can't believe the Big "O" doesn't have a headstone...it was was said the family was planning on moving Roy's body so they didn't bother to purchase a headstone, but now that Roy's wife is buried next to him, and has a headstone, maybe it's time for the 3 sons to purchase a headstone for their pop.
I talked to Barbara about a year before her death and wondered why she hadn't marked Roy's grave. She told me when they moved to California from Hendersonville, Tn. she had instructed her management team at her building in Nashville, (The Orbison Building) to bring Roy back to Nashville and they'd be buried together. BUT she was adament about Roy being buried in Texas because she didn't want him to be remembered next to his first wife, Claudette. She was very jealous of Claudette. When she died, the boys just wanted their parents together, Wesley had no say in the situation.
@@austinteutsch ...interesting, thx for the info, bud 😁....his sons should step up, he's obviously not going back to Tennessee ...maybe I'll pay for a stone.. No bullshit, I would.
We were in LA in Summer of 2009. This cemetery was on my must see list. My husband said “ there’s no way there’s a cemetery here” . You’re right, it’s in the middle of high rises and very odd. We were there the week that Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died. The day we went to the cemetery, we were greeted at the gate by two large men in sunglasses and suits. They politely told us that we could not enter due to a private ceremony currently taking place. I was so disappointed. After some thought and some research, we realized that we were there during Farrah Fawcett’s funeral . We had no idea at the time. We knew she had passed, but had no idea where she was being buried or when.
I love the three goes the neighborhood epitaph on his tombstone...he had a wicked sense of humor he could laugh at himself I thought he was funny as hell...rip rodney...and thanks...
josh kendra I remember him !!....I didn't know he was passed !, I thought he was still doing voiceovers work, WOW..... really goes to show you what a small world it is...
Where are you AdamTheWoo? COME BACK! We want you back. We're anticipating your next exciting 2020 sojourn adventure. I always enjoy your adventures & explorations. Will We join you? Shall we? YES!
Absolutely agreed. What I love is if you watch him walking through the cemetery he never intentionally steps on anyone's grave. He walks by them with respect. That, to me shows such respect to those who have passed on, that just because they've passed away doesn't mean they don't also deserve to be respected like everyone else. Adam is a good guy who has true respect 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for showing Richard Dawsons Grave, Big fan of his I have his autograph, personalized to me. tears came when I first seen you show it.
There're almost too many celebrities in that cemetery to count. Others, not in the video, include Jim Backus, Brian Keith, Fanny Brice, bandleader Les Brown, Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, drummer Buddy Rich, Eddie Albert, Eva Gabor, John Cassavetes, Manson trial lawyer Robert Hughes and on and on. . .
I know this is an old video, but you missed the great Carroll O'Connor to the left of Jack Lemmon at 5:24. All In The Family's Archie Bunker or the Sheriff in Heat of the Night. Such a great actor.
Just a few more... Walter Matthau, Mel Torme, Wayne Rogers, George C Scott, Carl Wilson, Karl Malden, Christopher George, Sebastian Cabot, Janet Margolin, Peter Falk
I found your chamnel from a banned from Disney list and this was the first video i choose to watch. It was a very moving and beauiful video, you and Mr X were so respectful of the graves.
Man. I am really grateful. I am 76 years old,two infarcts and an open heart surgery. Graves are a fascinating subject for me but lately all the videos have become boring as hell so seeing yours has been a gulp of fresh air. Keep on that way. I will keep an eye on you from this world or the next. Really grateful. My name is Phillip and I am Valeria s father.
Nothing for Roy Orbison? That's criminal! He had a fantastic, four octave voice and his death was a terrible loss to the music world. He should be buried with his two children who died in a house fire, or even with his reconciled late wife who died in a car accident. His life was so tragic, but he dug down and continued to make music.
His voice is haunting, isn't it? Sometimes, he just makes me cry. I literally bought my first Roy Orbison tape just a couple of hours before he died. I was young, but actually felt somehow guilty. Weird, I know.
Not sure why this came up in my suggested...a super interesting video though. Weird to see that it was "rumored" Hefner would be buried next to Monroe and it actually ended up true!
Yeah not a huge fan of his. Him being buried next her, gives him a springboard into not being forgotten. He was already becoming irrelevant. Aside from him being a creep. But it was a smart move on his part, even though totally self serving, and nothing to do with her so say. Joe should be there, IMHO.
... well-well, secret...? The cemetery was opened over 100 years ago (1905). At that time "on the green meadow". At some point the city got closer and closer.
I used to love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Then he apologized for using the Confederate battle flag during his tours. Now I refer to him as Tom the dead Pussy Petty. Don't change American history. I change the station when I get the chance.
Roy Orbison doesn't have a headstone.....that's a shame. I don't know if it's by choice or what the circumstances are but if it's financial I'd be glad to donate to a GoFundMe account or the like. He deserves much better in my opinion.
it may be deliberate for them to rest in peace. the zappa family has money and his son to whom I've met makes decent cash off of his music and filling in on other bands tours. if you're this concerned then ask their family first.
+Geoff Jacobs lol I wonder why tabloids stopped announcing this and posting pictures etc. it would be funny if this went on for another hundred years. his house is very haunted. I wasn't for certain if I encountered Elvis but there were very many ghosts there that I assume most were fans. it was mostly on the upstairs and stairs.
What you said about Farrah Fawcett. It’s so sadly true. I remember the sadness I felt when she died. There was a short documentary like show she put on tv about a months before she died. It was like the whole story of her cancer. She was letting the world know she was fixin to die. I remember how awful it was seeing her go through all that. She also shaved her head. I remember feeling such pain. She was famous for her beautiful blonde hair. She was a trooper. And just as beautiful with no hair. I’m thankful to you for bringing that whole Michael Jackson thing up. Because I don’t think she got the much deserved recognition for the good hearted lady she was. We mainly think of Charlie’s Angels. But she was an awesome dramatic actress. To name a couple The Burning Bed. And the movie where that lady killed all 3 of her kids for a man that didn’t want to be with her because he didn’t want kids. Plus he was married. I’m sure there are more great movies with her in them. She seemed like a such a kind loving person. God rest her soul from this mean world.
You showed the Bettie Page headstone. Right next to her was the grave of Allan Melvin, Sam from the Brady Bunch, Barney from All In The Family & many voice overs! Especially the Flintstones!
Another one you missed was actor Lew Ayres. While Adam was busy pointing to Frank Zappa's empty spot, Mr. Ayres was right next to it. Lew was an older actor and starred in one of the later Planet of the Apes movies.

Liam Williams Yes I don’t get that Zappa has an unmarked grave. I Was a huge fan in the 70s 80s and 90s....Must’ve been his choice as he died a very wealthy man....
I can't believe Roy Orbison is in an unmarked grave. He was fairly well off and he had a lot of VERY well off friends like George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan. I can't believe they would let that happen unless it was his choice.
I don't get unmarked graves by estates of wealth. Both have living family who could easily set a marker if desired. From a middle class non-religious family where EVERYONE was cremated and scattered, and thus not visit-able, an unmarked grave seems kind of a useless waste of real estate.
That one tickled me, too, as I am 60 years old and actually remember watching "The Merv Griffin Show" as a youngster. All shows, back then, preceded a commercial with some sort of brand name introduction, followed by "I'll be right back!", so he, obviously, thought it would make one smile to read on his gravestone that he wouldn't be back any more. Once an entertainer, always an entertainer!
@@AJ17_ One time in a sermon I was listening to the pastor was quoting sayings people had on their headstones. The one that made me laugh was: I TOLD YOU I WAS SICK!
+GenesisMichellee Yes, anyone can visit the cemetery (unlike Forest Lawn). If you're visiting the Westwood /UCLA area, this is a must-see. A peaceful little park in the middle of a busy downtown.
Love that cemetery. Beach Boy Carl Wilson is buried there right next to Minnie Ripperton. Also, a man from my little East Texas hometown who went on to co-star in the original Frankenstein, actor John Boles.
You didn't mention Allan Melvin next to Bettie Page. Mr. Melvin was Sam the Butcher on The Brady Bunch and a recurring actor in many roles on The Andy Griffith Show. Countless supporting actor roles by him.
Roy Orbison!! No headstone, That's disrespect of the highest order. If that's what he wanted then I take it back. If not then someone should hang their head in shame. I mean it's Roy Orbison the mans a legend, Someone should start a go fund me page. I'd do it myself but don't have the computer savvy I can just about switch the bloody thing on and off. The Man deserves massive recognition of a headstone not some poxy bush.
It costs about 30K to be in there so no, it's not disrespect. Sometimes it's a conscious choice because of vandalism (like Jim Morrison's grave) or other reasons- but I assure you- somebody passed on a nice Cadillac, fully loaded to plant Oribison there.
I honestly forgot that Farrah Fawcett had died. Maybe it was because she passed the same day as Michael Jackson. Anyhow, RIP to all these wonderful people. Great video. So sad that there are two unmarked graves.
Cocaine used days before his death as well as traces (prescriptions)of hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol , xanax, vallium and alot of alcohol consumption.
Jacqueline Kezema Me and my sister in law! We are from Oregon,we were looking for a branch of our bank. We pulled into what we thought would be a parking lot. We found the Cemetery.we parked by Marilyns resting place,Hugh wasn’t there yet. We saw so many famous ones.we were totally amazed at our luck to be able to pay respect to so many that gave us pleasure.
GrammerAngel you’re grandpa was just as important as these celebrities. My grandfather was also a farmer and a really loving man who I wish I would have spent more time with him I could have learned so much that now I’m wondering about!😊
I come from a family of farmers. And ive grown up with strong Christian values that teach all about the unbreakable law involving seed, time, and harvest. So our family was doing what God intended man to do. Which was to be good stewards of the land. So its folks like them that deserve to be honored in death with a nice grave, bc it only exahlts the one who influenced their work and thats God. Man should always seek to exhalt his creator. And in return God blesses them for their works.
Richard Poncher’s final wish was to spend forever with Marilyn Monroe - in the end he managed just 23 years. The late entrepreneur’s body is to be moved from its current vault directly above the one occupied by the Hollywood legend after his widow sold the unit for more than $4.6m (£2.8m) on eBay. Burial plot above Marilyn Monroe sold to anonymous bidder....The remains of Mr Poncher, who died 23 years ago at the age of 81, will now be moved sideways to a neighbouring plot. He had told his wife: “If I croak, if you don’t put me upside down over Marilyn, I’ll haunt you for the rest of my life.” That prospect appears to be less galling to Mrs Poncher than it perhaps did in 1986 - she is reportedly planning to pay off the mortgage on her Beverly Hills home with the proceeds of the eBay auction.
#Wtf !!. I hope he HAUNTS HER BADLY!!. What a bitch! How dare she even does something like that!!. I didn't even know it was possible that's actually f-g nasty and gross.
the typical memorial park is boring as it can be since it lacks headstones in general, replaced with flat markers, but the sheer talent and history there would make it a wonderful trip. the people there are basically my childhood.
I have visited this cemetery.. .. Even though Joe DiMaggio stopped sending flowers decades ago, fans continually place red roses in the holder by Marilyn's crypt. .. Also, the afternoon I was there, some crazed "fan" was laying down across Natalie Wood's grave, crying! .. Only In Hollywood :-O
Very respectful. Lovely setting. Feels more like a beautiful park, rather than a cemetery. A reminder, that we all have the same ending to our very different journey. Live, love and be kind to others, while we have the opportunity.
Adam, if you ever get back there for a follow up, I and many other viewers would love it if you took photos OR video of what all the catchy sayings on the tombstones are! That could be a video all in itself! Also, why not use the music of Elvis, "Memories" and take stills of EVERY grave and feature them in a stand alone video? Record and feature each one for any, 3 or 5 seconds. Then if we want to pause and look at it we can!
beautiful & peaceful spot. seeing Peter Falk 's resting place brought a tear - such a talented actor. Peter adored dogs so i'm sure some of his departed canine friends were there to meet him when he passed away. to all the stars sadly missed thank you for entertaining us & may you Rest in Peace.

Nicely said Pablo. Respect is always the way to go !!
Notice how Rodney Dangerfield's epitaph says "There goes the neighborhood."
Carl Wilson from The Beach Boys is buried there. He had the most beautiful voice! He died at only 51 from cancer. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions and he was such a sweetheart.
RYAN O NEAL was uncontrollable angry when the Oscars omitted her from the obits.

Out of all of them, I probably miss Roy Orbison the most even though he passed away long before I was even born I just miss his energy and how nice he was.
Just watched this one. 8/14/2024….I’m fascinated! What a wonderful find.
2:00 I suspect you know that Joanne Carson had been divorced from Johnny Carson for over forty years before her death.
Truman Capote, Bette Davis, Zappa....the adored Burt Lancaster,
wow. Thanks for showing me, Adam.
Man, you are so not wrong about this place being "hidden". I visited many years ago now specifically to try and find Marilyn's grave. Got lost on the way there, and found another group of 'lost' people on the way too. None of the tour guides in the area even knew where it was!
Westwood Village cemetery for those wondering.
Pierce Brothers. I went there often as part of my job. It isn't easy to find accidentally.
Lot of typing just to be "accurate."
When I said that I went there often, I actually meant that I went there daily. For years.
Thanks. I thought it might have been Hollywood Forever. That's another great place...
Brielle Dior nobody wondering
I was.
The golden days of Los Angeles, now its going to be a tourist trap.
Loved reading your comment ! I'd like to visit Westwood Village myself someday ! While down there, I'd try to visit the Hollywood Forever cemetery too, where so many other celebrities are buried or interred.
Well Zsa Zsa is there now too.
MrRJDB1969 I’m never going to go visit there. I still will respect them. Just as I would want my family members to be.
Santa Monica

8:33 it seems like such a small request. The last thing they will ever be asked to do for their loved one.
''Rodney, is finally getting some respect'' I loved that.
David Harrison did you notice the grave stone said “there goes the neighborhood”. Ha ha. Still funny, even in death.

He was on "All in the Family" too.
Allen Melvin was in Bilko's motor pool too.
Andy Griffith too, always played the tough guy
That's a pretty good pay-off for Allen Melvin - getting to lie next to Bettie Page for eternity - beats lying next to Anne B Davis any night.
Well mentioned: Rodney Dangerfield.

There're almost too many celebrities in that cemetery to count.
Lorrie Smith I adored him! I had every album ❤️
Weird to see that it was "rumored" Hefner would be buried next to Monroe and it actually ended up true!
she got playboy off the ground!

The cemetery was opened over 100 years ago (1905). At that time "on the green meadow". At some point the city got closer and closer.
I didn’t know how a graveyard could be a “wonderful” place. But now I understand.
Tom Petty is buried at this cemetery now too.
Really? One of my favorite rockers! May he RIP...
My understanding is that he was cremated and his ashes kept by Dana, his wife
I used to love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Then he apologized for using the Confederate battle flag during his tours. Now I refer to him as Tom the dead Pussy Petty. Don't change American history. I change the station when I get the chance.

Same. And with Frank Zappa, too. They're both incredible talents, they deserve recognition.
it may be deliberate for them to rest in peace. the zappa family has money and his son to whom I've met makes decent cash off of his music and filling in on other bands tours.
if you're this concerned then ask their family first.

his house is very haunted. I wasn't for certain if I encountered Elvis but there were very many ghosts there that I assume most were fans. it was mostly on the upstairs and stairs.
As a relative of some of the noted people buried here I'd like to thank you for this nice and respectful video.
Thank you! It's hard to realize these greats are gone, because we still see them so much on TV and youtube. All good wishes.
From the UK, thank you for this video and it was really interesting.

Blew my mind with the Zappa and Orbison graves!
I looked it up. Zappa is unmarked on purpose. He didn't want his grave to be desecrated as Jim Morrison's was.
I don't get unmarked graves by estates of wealth. Both have living family who could easily set a marker if desired. From a middle class non-religious family where EVERYONE was cremated and scattered, and thus not visit-able, an unmarked grave seems kind of a useless waste of real estate.
Peter Rothfuss Maybe they were afraid fans would graffiti it like Jim Morrison or something.
no disrespect but I love the gravestone that said I will NOT be right back after this message
