Hattie McDaniel had a famous rebuttal when someone didn’t like her portrayals as a maid: “I rather play a maid then be one” Many actors of color owe a great debt to Hattie.
albert penuelaz They made a monument in this grave for her but are her remains there as well? Did they move it? I probably missed it in the video but I didn’t hear him say anything about her remains being moved.
Narcissism when the new owners came into the picture in the 90s they wanted to reinterred Hattie at Hollywood forever but her decline the offer because they didn’t want to disturb her final resting place. That’s why the cenotaph is there so at least there was justice for Hattie. It’s said to be a popular attraction.
Aww Anton! I remember thinking it wasn't real when I read that he passed. Still hurts. And as for Hattie, it's a shame that even in death she was treated as less than smh
For the 11 years I lived in Hollywood this was always my favorite hangout. It's the closest anyone could get to being close to Hollywood royalty. Though they have gone, leaving behind only a corpse in a casket and a headstone, I could always buy a pizza from the Little Caesar's at the strip mall in front of the graveyard and dine with Hollywood's finest!
My in laws have a business next door to H.F. When they bust out the Filipino food at lunchtime, I flip on over to the graveyard and have a wonderful time.
Very sad about Anton Yelchin, I know some people in the area and they said his parents are always at his grave. He was their only child and it sounds like they are really broken by his loss.
Even his friends are still broken up by it. One sits on the board of his parent's charity, and another has a tattoo commemorating him. He must have been a very special young man.
He was such a talented actor. His loss was hit hard for sure. I can only imagine how his parents feel. He was so young and so successful. The good die too young😥😥😥
I still remember Tyrone Powers funeral my father took my mother and I to the cemetery to see him laid to rest. My mother was a big fan and still is. I still remember losing the ribbon from my hair in the lake near his grave.
Sandra Ponce: What sweet! I was 8 when he died!! Too soon! What a pity! I am his big fan, too! He was so beautiful, so warm and so handsome!! My adored Ty! I love him always and forever!! Bye Sandra!
Hollywood Graveyard Thank You For Showing Anton Yelchin, He Was Awesome As Chekov And He Was Clumsy Smurf In The Smurfs 1 And 2, May He Rest In Peace :(
I should note that there are no graves on the Douglas Fairbanks Lawn where the movie screenings are held. Don't worry, people aren't sitting on and walking over people's graves while watching the movie.
Hollywood Graveyard if your a fan of raves or ever heard of edc the owner goes by Pasquale rotella well his mother is buried here she was a huge part of the raver seen going to them all she was a mini celebrity she is next to the grand mausoleum in the grass area facing the lake her name was mama Irene she has the bronze statue of herself with a hat, dress and bracelets on and three bronze owls in front representing the raver culture her funeral was turned into a rave lots of DJ's went one of the famous ones was Kaskade it was amazing
Lol l seriously thought they were sitting beside the graves at least...as morbid as l am...even that gave me chills! 😂 thanks for clearing that one up 😊
Hollywood Graveyard. Understood...Alot of people have no idea how big Doug Fairbanks was in the 20's and before. He, Charlie, and Mary forming U.A., which is STILL around now.
I love Chris Cornell and his death really broke my heart, so I was glad to see you guys include him. The Ramones also rule, so that was awesome as well. Thank you for that!
Great work again. And thank you for telling the Virginia Rappe story sensitively and without the misguided sensationalist "spin." Good for you. I think you nailed it, and that's not really easy.
I adore walking around the cemetaries in Los Angeles, I spend hours looking at the many headstones..never gets old, unlike all of us who one day end up laid to rest in one. I'm still very bummed about Chris Cornell. Been a huge fan since the start of the grunge era. Ironically, he was cremated the very same day as my beloved and dearly missed mother..#RIPMommy #RIPChrisCornell
This one made me teary eye a bit. I love that Hattie Mcdonald is by Chris Parnell ' s grave. And the new state of Anton was lovely too Hope these tours never end
I lived in Hollywood for 7 years in the 90s. One of my favorite places was the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I used to bring friends from out of town there. I miss Hollywood so much, and watching this brought back a memory of one of my favorite places, especially the Lake. I was so happy you showed the DeMille grave-it was the reason I went to the cemetery the first time. Another masterpiece Mr Dark. Thank you for featuring Anton Yelchin who played Chekhov in the recent Star Trek movies. The original Chekhov was played by Walter Koenig whose son Andrew Koenig is also resting in this cemetery. Andrew may be best remember for playing Boner on the sitcom Growing Pains. Andrew was a nice boy who suffered from depression. In 2010 he went missing in Vancouver. Several of his Hollywood friends including Sarah Silverman sent out a search party in Stanley Park where he was found hanging from a tree.
Love this channel... As a member of our military, eventually I'd enjoy a series done on important military members from the past... Arlington national cemetery etc.... But keep up the good work... Great channel.
I have the pleasure of knowing one of Anton's amazing friends and unfortunately met his friend Ryan only days after Anton passed away from knowing Ryan and hearing all the amazing things Anton did for his friends and family it saddens me how a life can be lost so quickly. I never got to meet Anton but would of loved to with everything I heard from his friends

Nicely done....always a pleasure watching your videos. ..God bless you....for showing so much respect for people that have passed away....Hugh Hefner just passed away he is laid next to Marilyn Monroe. ...God rest them both....

Thank you Arthur for this compelling look into the final resting places of our most beloved celebrities. You're knowledge is awe inspiring! Moreover, thank you for showing that cemeteries are things of beauty full of history and culture!
I was always happy that the guys who bought the cemetery saved it and love it like we all do! They where one of the first places that gave families the option of having a funeral service over the internet. They aimed at getting families together who has came to the USA and those in their home country. The money from this type of service helped save the cemetery as a whole. Bless them ❤️🙌

You deserve to be honered like these celebrities bro. Total respect from me. Some of the most influential individuals that will ever walk on planet earth are on your videos. Great job.

Have to say, this is the best tour of famous grave site locations.. Informative, thoroughly enjoyable to watch and took time with each grave to detail their achievements. Am off now to watch the other two in this series
Thank you Arthur I've been looking forward to seeing this! My mum and dad watch these with me which doesn't happen often so thank you very very much! See you soon Arthur!
I had the great pleasure to meet and spend a little time with Fay Wray in 1987 at the Canadian Consulate in L.A. She was with her husband and could not have been more charming and wonderful. I asked her if it would be appropriate later that evening to go and visit the grave of Marilyn Monroe just down the street. She laughed and turned to her husband and said, we should go as well and I can scream. One of the highlights of my life. RIP.
I love that they do movie night in there and what an attendance! This was a big year for losses musically at least for me. Chris Cornell was a great entertainer. Seems so many are cut short especially after watching this one. There were several suicides and untimely accidents. I learn something every time I watch your videos!
I was surprised and really saddened at how plain Chris Cornell’s marker/site is.....Chris deserves something much grander, like Johnny Ramones, which was really beautifully done..Johnny’s wife did a wonderful job memorializing Johnny....I know there is a statue of Chris in Seattle, that the city erected (is that correct?)...and that’s fine....but, it’s not the same if it’s not where his remains are...that is if his remains are indeed in this cemetery.
Yeah there’s a statue at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle (which was vandalized last year...) but I was hoping they’d do something similar at his grave. Especially since he’s right next to Johnny Ramone. I visited from Australia last year. When I was there, there were red & white flowers arranged in the shape of a cross on his grave.
Author Dark,Thank you for the new vlog.I can't wait, I noticed that you usually post a new one, like every other week. I am always,so excited to see when you have a new vlog posted!I really enjoy your knowledge of the stars and how you post a bit of their famous works in film.I have learned so much about these wonderful stars, most of them, before my time.Thank you so much!!!!Love them!!!#
Wow, I was surprised. I did not know that Jayne Mansfield's daughter is Mariska Hagertay. I learned something new today.😉 And the Kings Row music it reminds me of the Superman's song.😍
It's amazing how people like to "put down "southerners for racism, but as you said about Hattie Mcdaniel not being buried at Hollywood Forever because she was black. It shows that racism was EVERYWHERE -NOT JUST THE SOUTH.
@First Amendment besides this not being the place for political bs, the only democrats that were racists were the southern democrats, aka the Dixiecrats. They later became Republicans in the 1960s, and the current GOP is the party of racism. THAT can't be disputed.
Watch this year's Best Picture winner, "The Green Book" for some history and insight. Racism and segregation was actually more prevalent in the North, than in the South. It's just that you hear more about it in the South.
Jimmy Catalina No, love😌 whites or races they beaten us they slaved us we couldn’t sit with them we couldn’t drink with them we couldn’t go to school with them but u wanna say BLACKS ARE RACES NO YA’LL are and will always be known as monsters in History just like Nazis smh all those poor people shouldn’t have to go through that they human just like others y’all just wanna be perfect but revenge is a must one day y’all gone see how it feels so have all y’all fun now love❤️😘
As soon as I heard Chris Cornell, I knew Chester Bennington would be mentioned Tony Scott will always be one of he greatest British directors Anton Yelchin was taken way too soon
Thanks so much for all you do on your channel! I look so forward to each new video. Your cover photo is stunning as well! You're quite the talented young man!

Anton Yelchin's death still is so sad. He has such great talent !!!
They had a recall on the the cars, but he didn't take it to be fixed. That's what I heard.
I loved his proformance in the star trek remake.
@@suzieaustin.5905 I heard this too, only there was a recall AFTER he died I think they got sued for it

How could he forget him? He visits the soundgarden of legends.
Chris & Anton's graves broke my heart. ❤😇
Don Adams was also the voice of my favorite penguin, Tennessee Tuxedo! Miss his comedic talent!

It’s nice that Anton Yelchin got a full statue despite his young age. Should have made one for Chris Cornell
its a beautiful succulent garden, very sweet and peaceful
I loved Don Adams as the voice of Inspector Gadget in the late eighties to early nineties. "Go go Gadget 'copter!"
I used to watch that cartoon in the early to mid 1990s. I will have to search for some old episodes.
So Did I! I know almost every gadget He uses knowing Don Adams himself memorized them all despite which episodes he remembered himself.
Just walked these grounds last week, so glad to have these videos as a guide. Thanks so much for posting!
Rest In Peace, Johnny Ramone, along with all the other original Ramones, Joey, DeeDee, & Tommy. One of my top 5 bands.💖🤘

Lol i love this channel it had to be my favorite. It gives so mich insight to people who have molded our future.
Great information and memories of lives ..... a wonderful watch.... thank you so much x

Wow, I was surprised. I did not know that Jayne Mansfield's daughter is Mariska Hagertay. I learned something new today.😉
And the Kings Row music it reminds me of the Superman's song.😍
It's amazing how people like to "put down "southerners for racism, but as you said about Hattie Mcdaniel not being buried at Hollywood Forever because she was black. It shows that racism was EVERYWHERE -NOT JUST THE SOUTH.
@First Amendment besides this not being the place for political bs, the only democrats that were racists were the southern democrats, aka the Dixiecrats. They later became Republicans in the 1960s, and the current GOP is the party of racism. THAT can't be disputed.
Cynthia Thomas - the former mobster underworld owner of the cemetery wouldn’t have it
Blacks ARE racist.
Watch this year's Best Picture winner, "The Green Book" for some history and insight.
Racism and segregation was actually more prevalent in the North, than in the South. It's just that you hear more about it in the South.
