  • Help rescue wild animals from a lifetime of lockdown www.bornfree.org.uk/life-in-l...
We used people’s experience of lockdown to highlight the lives of wild animals forced to live under lock and key. Turn on the sound to hear their story.
Many animals in zoos, circuses and dolphinaria suffer in lockdown every day. They’re trapped thousands of miles from their natural homes. Stripped of a life in the wild. And locked up for life.
Almost all will die in captivity.
We do our best to break this cycle and where possible rescue vulnerable animals from appalling conditions. Share this film and donate if you can so we can rescue even more wild animals from permanent lockdown.

Love this - charming and deeply poignant. It is very moving to hear people talk about their experiences of lockdown, but to simultaneously remind us of the plight of animals in zoos cleverly and powerfully adds another level of pathos.

@@MrRickster83 No, they are genuine vox pops - unscripted interviews with regular people just saying what they feel about lockdown. Then the animation is done afterwards to synchronise with the interview recording.

Heartbreaking and enlightening at the same time. This really empathizes what these innocent WILD animals may be feeling being locked up for human purposes. Thank goodness the world is becoming more aware of our own atrocities for personal gain. =^..^=

I agree with the fact that the animals aren't good in circuses and dolphinaria, but for the zoos (or at least, for most of them), the animals are good, in big enclosure created to make them feel like their home

    Brilliant cartoon work and idea
    Very sad reality
Lockdown for humans is temporary, we’re thinking beings and know what’s going on
A lot worse for animals in permanent prisons , defenseless, stolen from their environment and stripped of everything that makes the life of a wild animal worthwhile

Thank-YOU for creating this-I have shared it and will save it. People don't realize that the few moments they spend gawking at these animals-is a lifetime of misery for them! YOU are FREE to ROAM-spend your time as YOU want to-YOU have a choice-these animals don't and that is NOT right!!! ALL LIVES MATTER-ANIMAL LIVES TOO!!!! HELP END CAPTIVITY, EXPLOITATION & the Use of ALL Animals-except for therapy, guard, companion and rescue animals. Respect animals for their uniqueness-we have been Blessed with an amazing diversity of amazing animals-we SHARE this planet WITH them-THEY have EVERY right to Lives FREE from harassment, pain, fear, deprivation and manipulation.

No animal should be in any zoo, circus, test laboratories etc and yes, so sad to see what "humans" put them through. This is natures way of showing us on a small scale what we have done to animals.... let's hope that we can change their lives for the better and stop "humans" from profiting off their "lockdown" :)

Several hundreds of animals have become extinct because humans have this constant need to kill poor innocent animals. It may seem wrong trapping them in a zoo, but it's safer than keeping them in the wild where people hunt them for sport/pleasure.

I think what some people don't understand is that not all captive environments aren't bad or negative for animals. If they are given proper care and all their welfare needs are met. What about conservation projects what about all the research. Yes this film sends a strong message. But I think it's unfair to compare the likes of a circus who's main reason for having animals for education, to a zoo who have to meet certain standards and must contribute to conservation, research and education!

Good video. Now we know what lockdown means! I wish we would stop calling animals 'wild'. Perhaps another word like feral may be better. Otherwise, we carry the prejudice with the word wild that needs to be either tamed or caged from generation to generation. Colonized people were also thought to be wild who needed to be civilised. In other words, tamed and contained in the European cage.

Yeah, some people just don’t get the opposing side on zoos and SeaWorld. I’ve known at least one person who knew I loved animals and thought it would be a nice thing to do to go to Longleat Safari Park with him. I’m like no, because I love animals. I’ve known others that seemed to make the point that the zoo would be a great trip for me, or the whole captive breeding point. What I don’t get is, if zoos are so adamant about conservation, what’s the point of breeding them in captivity if, as is the case with most zoos and their animals, they’re never going to release them into the wild anyway, because the animals were bred in captivity and wouldn’t survive in the wild? Breeding hundreds of thousands of endangered animals in captivity, only to never release them, is not going to benefit the wild populations or the wild ecosystems that depend on these species. Yes, it might keep the species around a bit longer for us to see, but that, in and of itself, isn’t really going to benefit the species in the wild, or the natural environments in the wild, is it? Zoos know that people will be more likely to be willing to pay to see both endangered species and baby animals, or endangered baby animals.
That being said, some zoos are okay. The ones that are actually all about rescuing animals and their welfare, rights and conservation are extremely important, but not just ordinary, for-profit zoos. Even though, the sanctuaries do, of course, rely on money from visitors, this often goes towards the care, rescue and conservation of the animals. For instance, where I live, in the South of the UK (although not in my county, and actually quite far from where I actually live), there is this amazing place called Monkey World. They are kind of a zoo, but their sole purpose for existence is all about the rescue, education, conservation and care of monkeys and other primates. Did you know, apparently, the Great Apes, like gorillas and orangutans, are not actually “monkeys”, they are apes, but not monkeys? An example of a true monkey would be like a capuchin or gibbon (correct me if I’m wrong)?
There is also this great place in Florida called Big Cat Rescue. There are also many wolf sanctuaries in America. I love and adore wolves and would love to visit a wolf sanctuary.

Despite being a staunch supporter of personal freedom, freedom of speech, and generally against "cancel culture", as a devoted animal lover I *do* make exceptions to this rule:
Those who are keeping/housing wildlife (an underestimated form of animal cruelty) in unjust living-environments and subsequently attempt to disguise this as acceptable, and benign 'pet ownership' - *especially* those who (ab)use the situation by posting _'cutesy'_ videos, which generally give a huge number of ignorant viewers the (utterly wrong) impression that it's harmless and A-Okay - leading to more endless suffering *should be cancelled.* ASAP!
I don't think I have to spell out many examples of "unnatural" keeping/environments, bc simple "common sense" should raise a possible red-flag when confronted with a situation like this; for instance, keeping wild otters in a small flat(!) who will be walked wearing a dog leash/harness(!), and, *_if they're lucky,_* get to feel the river once a week, *still* wearing that horrid harness when trying to swim to prevent them to break free (and not coming back)...
The latter example is from a Japanese YT-channel (this country saw a humongous hype of keeping wildlife as housepets, mostly due to some fairytale characters, spirits transformed as certain animals), whose comments consist predominantly of (little/stupid) girls fawning, cooing "how so very cute this all is", "how they want one for themselves", and some having doubts and complain about its "horrible, deafening screeching" (ie, the sound of an otter in distress), the only companion/playmate is the housecat...
And if in any doubt, look further, and you'll find countless (local) animal welfare websites lamenting over this problem.
I, therefore, would plead that anyone, who cares about the welfare of animals: *Don't* underestimate the suffering of wildlife parading in said 'cutesy videos', and clearly state your objections in the comments, inform the ignorami, however innocently meant, of what it *factually* is, *animal cruelty, with a 'my sweet pony veneer'.* Ignorance isn't "bliss"!
