They should've listened to Cavill. Good riddance.
haha
Funny since everything Cavill touches turns to dust. His latest two movies will cost the studios hundreds of millions.
they are brainwashed by the woke. They are not able to use their brain.
Yeah its cause the producers and writers work in their own vaccum. They believe their own bias' and ideals, so you tell them something different they think your stupid. Hollywood is dead and won't change till these people lose many millions more and its all under new management
They hated him because he was right and they knew it. They didn't respect games as a valid medium for storytelling and ended up screwing up Netflix's entire planned universe because they couldn't be humble. This could have been their game of thrones and it was easy. Use the visuals from the games and the writing from the books. They fucked up something that was unfuckable
the second they got rid of henry they should have used their collective 5 braincells at netflix and realized no one is gonna watch this without him
That is funny since nobody is watching his movies. Last two was catastrophic failures and he even managed to tank Superman 🤢
@@logirex lmao the cringe
Interesting, so you just happen to know every person that watches movies and also know that they are not watching any HC movies?
@@logirex Still this is one of the reasons. But my opinion is that: if they adapted story properly and added thier own story/spice/agenda or whatever on the side, then maybe would have fine overall. Problem is that they prioritize thier own B.S more than actual story. It would have just declined slowly instead of just falling from the sky.
@@logirex Nobody is really watching any movies though. Cinema, and by extension the box office, never fully recovered from the coof lockdowns. Combine that with most movies releasing now being complete trash, and it's pretty much a dying business.
The one thing Yenifer wanted more than any other was a child. She spent decades trying to figure out how to have a child. Then Geralt gives her a daughter, the best gift she has ever been given. In the books its the happiest she has ever been and she will easily die or kill for her daughter. In the show she treats her like garbage and is going to sacrifice her to get her powers back? Its like they had no idea what the books were about.......
They probably do, the problem is they don't care. They thought they could do it better. Shit see the new doctor who for another example. These people don't live in the real world. They live in 2020 twitter lol
Too much input of modern bigoted inclusiveness, progressiveness and political-correctness lead to immersion-breaking in The Witcher series.
The show seriously lacked (among many, many things) chemistry amongst characters. One thing I liked about the books was that Geralt, Yen, Ciri, and their close friends all felt like a big lovable family. Sure, it was a little dysfunctional due to the circumstances, but in a world filled with hate, racism, and war, they all truly cared about each other. I loved when Yen arrived to teach Ciri about her powers and she became a friend, mentor, and mother figure. Their relationship was downright heartwarming. In the show? Absolutely nothing. I don't understand how they could've messed things up this bad.
I don't remember from books that Yennefer wanted a child. She was more like modern feminists XD
@@kakarotto2523 she did. Geralt even gathered money and precious stones for experimental magical procedures for her to be able to have a child. Yes, at the beggining of being a witch she might've been a bit obsessed with power, because it fixed her looks, but ultimately by the time she and Geralt met, she was struggling with the idea of not being able to be a mother

The Author pushed this

don't give a sh!t
@nicknevco215 pretty sure the author has little to do with anything outside of the writing of the books.
Are you trying to say that writing fanfiction and making close friends hate each other and sidelining the main character isn't good writing? Or are you trying to say that race swapping characters isn't a well loved tradition?
What? You want to see the Witcher go fight monsters? No we need soap opera drama with characters you don't like but we really want to push.
That's where they got their writers from
The director of Witcher was off from the start. I cannot understand Netflix always sided with her. She just didn't get Witcher. I think she was trying to make Outlanders.
They dont give a fuck if movies or shows flop, their goal is to push agendas. They get paid more to push agendas then make media.
Woman + Progressive thinking ( imo the reverse tbh ) = failing up the ladder. Has been this way for a good 10+ years.
@@aedankor2961 More so just identity politics but you're not incorrect.
@@aedankor2961 honestly its netflix that does this more than any other platform and its not close. "woke" hollywood isnt even that common but almost EVERY SINGLE netflix production is focused around it.
The biggest irony is, she was the one that told Henry about the books. Before that, he just loved the game and thought that books were some low quality game fanfics.
Bro, they did Eskel and Vesemir so dirty. In the games he was such a great fucking character. Yeah he was a dick some times-- but he always had a proper head on his shoulders. And Vesemir? He was practically Geralt and Ciri's father figure. And they turned him into schizophrenic old man. Wtf Netflix
Blame (Lauren Schmidt Hissrich) the producer and screenwriter of the show. Blame her instead of just Netflix a brand name that is faceless.
Oh as a book fan it makes me die inside
@seafatt Netflix hired her and green lit the ideas, so at the end of the day, it's on them. I do see what you're saying, though.
@boredinthecomments I feel like they got bamboozled. Season 1 wasn't bad. Then it all went downhill. She probably inserted her agenda after the fact.
@@seafatt Yeah, I still remember idiots saying her work is based on the books, d riding her :). Not sure what books they or she have read.

It was doomed to fail. Their initial casting was for a BAME Ciri, regardless of the VAST changes needed to the setting to make that work.
Instead they threw away Beau DeMayo, who spoke out about how the writers actively disliked The Witcher.
Meanwhile, we've seen what DeMayo's done with X-Men '97.

Adapting the Witcher novels should’ve been the free-est slam dunk of all time.

The funniest thing is that sapkowski wrote strong, compelling and intelligent women beacause he grew up with women picking up the slack as many, many men died in world war 2 and they did a damn good job. But apparently this is not good enough and they need to more like drama teens.
Goes without saying Netflix wasn't doing it to represent women in a bright light but to just show off that they have the power to change things and present them in THEIR own ways.
I would say that that is the only thing the show does better. Yen carries the show at points and she does not have that page time. I hope that Milva gets good scream time next season because she’s the best.
You're very much correct, there's just to many well written, gifted women in this universe that all the Hollywood writers should take example from the books to learn how to write "strong, independent woman" - Ciri, Triss, Calanthe, Milva, Nenneke, Meve and so on.
Sapkowski didn't say he hated the games, he said he never played them because he just doesn't care for video games in general.
somehow, that's even worse.
He was very disrespectful about them, I wish CDPR hadn't settled with him. He deserved what he got. The old jerk. CDPR made the Witcher a household name - Sapkowski did not.
@@30noir You're not wrong about the later stuff (as far as I know), but that particular statement was in fact mistranslated.

The Yennefer storyline was so hard to watch...
- Doesn't get chosen as a mage, so therefore they refuse to give her the operation that makes her infertile but gives looks etc.
- Refuses to accept that decision and forces someone to give her said operation, making her infertile
- Spends the rest of the show complaining how the mages could do that to her, when we actually saw her doing it to herself with noone pressuring her into it or even wanting her to.
How are we supposed to feel any sympathy for her at all with how the show handled her?
Its amazing how unlikeable they made her while also making her the real main character.
Yeah total bummer too bc the actress herself was really charming and good. They wrote her so badly.

"Fan" fiction implies they were fans in the first place.
They're explicitly against the fans and the lore. They literally said it on camera. Like most of our beloved IP's in the last 5-10 years. The creators actively hate the fan base and or the IP. Coming in wanting to do their own thing while wearing the IP as a skin suit.

I agree with you saying 'it's fanfiction; it's not real anymore", but the anger and resentment is for the loss of what COULD have been. They had SO much at their disposal to make this good, and just didn't..
They really had it all, they had Cavill who is an actual die hard fan of the universe, they got the fanbase of the books AND the games, the universe had a big hype after The Witcher 3 and yet they absolutely butchered it. Like, you actually cannot make it that bad by accident, it must've been done on purpose and even then it's hard to fuck it up THAT badly. What a dumpster fire.

I agree. Having an actor and contributor like Henry that is super committed to the work should be a huge advantage and very desirable. If having an actor that is knowledgeable and passionate about the source material is being seen as a negative, or is seen as threatening or undermining to director/writer or higher-up, then for me, it says a lot about them, not the actor/contributor.

I think the problem with the adaptation, either books or games, is that these developers or writers dont want to bring the originl story to the screen they want to bring their own story or their version to the screen. They dont want to be the guy that brought someone elses story to the screen. They want to have their story on the screen.
another example of why i dont spend money on streaming services anymore. if they can even bother to finish a story there usually trying to make some modern statement even if the characters they invent couldnt have anything to do with the timeline the story takes place.
netflix witcher: "dies from DEI"

what "westerns sensibilities"? the games and books sold out fast! perhaps you mean 'western egos'? 🤣🤣🤣 But 100% agree with you that it was a surefire success that could have made them millions and us happy. But no.

As a westerner, these are not my sensibilities. These are far left sensibilities
Wokeness is really a parasite.
That's only half the reason this turned to shit. The other, bigger reason, is the ARROGANCE of screen"writers" thinking they can make better stories than what was originally written.
The world is diverse, they have regions of different ethnic like ours. You can immediately tell that someone's a traveler from other part of the world by looking at their ethnicity. The witcher would have worked great as a netflix seasonal show where each episode is a self contained plot involving a monster that geralt is contracted to kill, with an overarching journey where the last 3 or 4 books is setup to fight a much greater threat and geralt is involving a bunch of characters throughout.
It's crazy how something as obvious as "the people adapting something should like the source material" seems like such a foreign concept to many of those productions
they really butchered The Witcher, it´s worse than I thought. It´s like they never wanted this show to succeed, judging by their decisions it seems like they wanted it to bomb
Yeah it's become meta to destroy the thing that you are building up. They hate culture and want to destroy it while getting paid royally.
and just wait: in a few months, the typical journo-activists will come out and have the gall to proclaim there is just no audience for stoic masculine fighter types like geralt, else the show wouldve been a success ahahahah
The Witcher is what happens when your ego outpaces your brain.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Babshoka
funny enough Lars Mikklesen (Stregobor) is in a game being developed called Neon Knights: Humanity Erased ;)
Why? Turning a boy franchise into a girl franchise always works. Always. Works.
xena was a spin off of hercules which was pretty successful....but that was because of good writing and Lucy Lawless
Yeah not like the majority of the Witcher fan base is men too. Probably like 90%+ are men
It was never about that. Lots of girls enjoy the original premise and story of Witcher as is without Netflix stuff
Well, the books are mostly centered around Ciri and Geralt initially, and Yennefer is largely out of the main story after Thanedd but it's definitely I would say 50/50 Geralt / Ciri in the 1st 2 books, then it's largely Ciri focused afterwards with Geralt doing stuff on the side. The original book set as a whole was never just focused on Geralt especially towards the middle to end of the books where in the latter half of the books he's just "there".
Strong masculine character, feminist writers. Result is inevitable
This is why writers should always remain involved in the writing of their TV adaptations. In almost every instance when writers simply sell off the property for TV adaptation and take a "hands off" approach, the adaptation is horrible.
While true: they’ll never do it since the producers are egomaniacs.
Basically explained by Kevin Smith and his story about his Superman movie: one of them wanted a giant spider in it…just because. Also check out Strazensky and Babylon 5 problems.
The rich people ALWAYS have to make their mark and mess up productions. They’ll never be convinced otherwise so the OG author on hand would do nothing. Cavil was just as good, if not better (better due to his enthusiasm as a fan to recreate it faithfully), than the Author and he accomplished little.
@@bitharne The producer with the giant spider fetish is Jon Peters. He was a producer on the Wild Wild West, which is the reason for the giant spider tank at the end of that movie. He also tried to get a giant mechanical spider into Smith's Superman movie and an earlier movie treatment of The Sandman, both of which were eventually shelved. To his credit, Neil Gaiman was dead-set against the idea. Peters was also a prod on the movie Man of Steel, but Christopher Nolan barred him from the set entirely, which was probably for the best.
We have The last of Us as a proof of that. The game writers were there the whole time to help bringing it to the screen.
i saw the writing on the wall at the start of season 2 when they killed eskel. Also when they made Fringilla Vigo a black woman when being very pale is actually a part of her character.
I watched 2 seasons and the only episode that was good was the first ep of season 2 because it was very reminiscient of a deep storytelling quest from the Games
Anything Netflix touch breaks.
It ain’t Netflix… it’s the whole woke wack ass industry
Go woke, go broke
Weeb
Wrong. One Piece, Love, Death & Robots, Blue Eye Samurai, Edgerunners, and countless other successful productions prove it.
@mattandrews2594 Delicious in Dungeon is spectacular, as well. It's really this (The Witcher) and a handful of high-budget production pieces that have put the stink on Netflix. They killed two things I was a fan of, The Witcher and Cowboy Bebop. Otherwise, One-Piece was fantastic, and there's a lot of good stuff on there. And they're willing to take on risky Korean shows, that could have been divisive, like Squid Game (they paid for it, but Hwang Dong-hyuk made it without bowing to anyone). They just need to showcase, but let the production be by independent companies that are passionate, not studio politicians.
Producers ruining shows is becoming a thing. It’s like they get to it first and drain out what they can until they realize nobody cares and then bam they throw it down. With that nobody can go back and try and redo it because everyone will remember this 💩
The first episode of season 2 was good but weirdly right from the first or second book
Funny you bring up dragons, because in one of the first books they actually want to kill a dragon with the dwarves and the dragon turns out to be a pretty chill dude. And the plot with the actual father of Ciri was mindblowing but it is only revealed in one of the last chapters of the last book. The show did not cover anything from the books which is so disapointing.
Those Netflix added elements really stand out.
The entirety of Netflix's attempt to adapt the Witcher really just feels like an exercise in taking an essentially un-failable project and fucking it up in the most ridiculous, insane way possible. I have NEVER BEFORE in my entire life seen a series of increasingly worse and worse decisions like this. The bad decisions started in season 1 with the Nilfgaardian dick armor and some questionable casting, which are both things I could kinda look past because other designs looked spot-on and casting Henry Cavill as Geralt was a stroke of utter genius (entirely by accident, I am sure now).
But holy shit, it's like someone asked them in every meeting: "OK, how badly can you fumble this next bit?" and the whole room loudly yelled "YES!" in unison. It's beyond satirical, no satire writer on this planet could come up with a plot this ridiculously contrived and nonsensically on the nose, and this ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
The fact that a fairly large number of people making decisions on this needed to be so completely and utterly inept at their jobs to result in what we see before us now just *boggles the mind* so hard it's not even funny any more.
You had a show that basically created and wrote itself and was guaranteed to PRINT MONEY, if you just bothered at least somewhat respecting the source material, and you turned it into a pile of steaming gorilla shit that nobody on this planet cares about. How much of a joke do you have to be to achieve this?
Just a another day ending in "y" in Clown World. You can check out but never leave...
Correction on Lucas getting a % on merchandise : he didnt just get a % he got the sole rights for star wars merch back when the movies came out , something that changed movie contracts forever
100% right. Diverging is fine if the divergence is better/good. IE; the show runners of last of us said that every change they considered is this better? If it was they did it if it wasn't they didn't.
Instead of making the main show "The Witcher" about the witcher and then making spinoffs, they made the main series a spinoff and made spinoffs of spinoffs.
They skipped the world building to shortcut to the politics.
The original series is very Ciri centric, and she is a Witcher. But the writers think they're more talented than the author, ego.
And Ciri being a main character isn't enough for their agenda
@@aightm8 Did she undergo the trial in the books?
@@Adanu191 just games my bad
Hell, even season 1’s direction was all over the place with the 2 timelines at once thing. The show had potential but the director didn’t know what she was doing
6:51 my exact view with WoW. Jailor? Dragonflight? Nah bro we just arrested Garrosh in ogrimmar and found out he was being controlled by a Sha, crazy i know.
They had something, but pride goeth before the fall.
As an og Polish fan who grew up on the Witcher books 2 decades ago, I'm dead inside
Vesamier sacrificed his life for ciri. Wtf are they thinking
"Strong independent girls can do it all by themselves" probably
I've never played the games or read the books. I agree season 1 was amazing. I found season 2 onwards was very confusing.
"Really, why don't we get a director who doesn't care about the books and thinks he can improve an already very good story and turn it into a weird mutation with things that don't make any sense in the context of the universe of the witcher, what could go wrong?"
Thank god shit was going to go down hill anyways after my baby boy Henry left and without sticking to the source as well.
Bot
but not a bad one this time. lol
@@hollowknight459 how hard is it to pretend? "I will miss my baby " that's all you ever need to learn in identity theft
it was dead when that one guy left
Ew Cavill is horrible stiff and boring...too much in himself
No, it was dead from the beginning, Cavill just made the corpse walk.
The reason why he left is why this series died. Incompetence is why this show bought the farm
It was shit from the beginning. Only the Ciri actress and some side characters were doing a decent job. Cavill was stiff and the Jen sucked.
The first thing that comes into my mind when i hear The Witcher is Geralt hunting witches, im sure theres also a lot stories but im a bit biased because the very first thing that i know of THE WITCHER is when i watched the trailer "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and thats pretty much the only information i have on the The Witcher😂.
It was so easy for them. All they had to do was follow the main plot of the books and add artistic flair when it promotes the visual medium. P. Jackson did it well with Lord of the Rings. They had all the resources they needed at their fingertips. All they had to do was emulate a story and make money.
It's insane how CDPR managed to craft an original story and still preserve the original theme of the book series, while they were still a small team of Polish developers. How on Earth did Netflix not manage to outshine a small team of developers while having the advantage of telling the original story?
I am confused, does the Netflix Witcher take places in Wakanda?
Since it´s Netflix, anything medieval is Wakanda. :)
