If you stacked the charts tracking the popularity of the console wars and the player satisfaction with games coming out (on either side) I guarantee they'd be nearly identical. Companies will ONLY put in effort to make worthwhile products if there is someone else making a better version of that product threatening to take their customer base away.
I hope the console wars end it's fun for kids in high school but once you become a adult it's just pathetic. it also stops more games been cross platform
As someone who plays all consoles and pc I still enjoy the war from the sidelines. It fuels competition and that helps with keeping quality up. Nintendo’s refusal to participate in the wars is probably a factor in why their games run like dirt. Like I love Nintendo games but the switch fps issue is ruining the experience for a lotta games.
I've been a PC gamer all my life, with forays into Nintendo on occasion (DS, Wii, Switch), but I still hold mild interest in hearing about this stuff from a distance.

Comparing consoles wars to refrigerator wars is hilarious and accurate asf. I literally have zero real life friends that I can discuss PS/Xbox beef with 😂😂
This is the only channel i follow now that has current gaming stuff. I mostly play cities skylines and project zomboid on a PC i built in 2012 and I last switched my PS3 on about 4 years ago to play Final Fantasy 7. Sounds like it all degenerated.
I don't have a horse in this race. The last console I owned that I actually liked was a GameCube (still have it and it still works). I'm now only on PC because back in the day consoles were better than PCs but at some point in the late 2000s, when I needed a PC more than just for gaming, it simply didn't make sense to own an XBox or PS3, mostly because they were actually pretty unreliable with overheating being a major issue for both machines. I even borrowed my firend's 360 and I had it for less than a week, and I experienced the dreaded red ring of death. Thank goodness she understood that it was a common problem and she just sent it in to get repaired. But after that I was all like "No. At least I can control airflow and cooling efficiency in a custom made PC". And other than a very cheap 2nd hand Wii I got just so that I could play Super Smash Bros Brawl, I couldn't think of a single reason why I should buy a console and also buy a new PC that I have to have anyways for work, games, hobbies, etc, instead of just buying a PC on it's own.
Speaking of how console wars have rules, I have rules for discussing PCs compared to consoles. It has to be a prebuilt PC that costs the same price as the mainstream consoles. If I were to buy a $500 prebuilt Gaming Desktop from Lenovo or Dell or whatever, could it outperform a PS5 and Series X? I doubt it. The benefit to consoles is that there's very little set-up required-- you plug it in, hit the power button, and it works. So comparing a $500 game console that you bought at Walmart to a $2500 PC that you built in your garage? That's ridiculous and unfair. But comparing a $500 game console that is sold in Aisle 7 of your local Best Buy to a $500 desktop that is sold in aisle 10 of your local Best Buy? That's a fair-ish comparison (I mean, game consoles don't usually have word processing or email, while the Desktop is a multipurpose device so it's still apples to oranges, but it's the fairest comparison possible).
Sometimes, I feel ashamed for being a part of the gaming community. Just bec I bought X instead of Y, and somehow that’s a personal attack on them. Most of them, just compare pointless numbers to each others…
I hate the console war. I play on Nintendo and Sony consoles and never owned a Microsoft console purely because the Sony and Nintendo exclusives have always looked more interesting to me. Because of that, I don't really follow what Microsoft is doing and almost never even bring them up when I'm talking about video games. I don't praise nor criticize them. Nintendo and Sony, however, I both praise and criticize when they make decisions. And I hate that every time I criticize a bad decision from Nintendo or Sony I get labeled a hater. I'm forced to clarify just how much I'm actually a fan of them, and that's exactly why I care when they do something wrong. I don't care what Microsoft is doing because I'm not a fan of them.
There's a pretty good episode of the Final Bosman about who loses in a console war that would be a good follow up to this vid. Overall, well written and editted vid!
My entire life it's been one console or another. Back in the SEGA/Nintendo days, then we got a Playstation. We got what we could afford/wanted. We were a SEGA household, but I still played Nintendo at a friends and vice versa. These wars were always seen from a distance on my end I must admit. It wasn't until about 15 or so years ago I really heard much about a "war." Sure we had our preferences as kids but we never argued....I never came across arguments about consoles until I got onto the internet.
The thing with PC in the console wars is that PC is such a varied platform it is meaningless to bring it up. Consoles of the same type are all the same, a PS4 is a PS4, an XBONE is an XBONE, All PS4's are the same as all other PS4's, all PS4 Pro's are the same as all other PS4 Pro's etc. A Pc can be anything from a 10 dollar secondhand store pc filled with scrap that won't even run tetris without lagging to hell, to a ~500 dollar pc built with like a 1050 inside that runs everything kinda moderately, not oo bad but not exceptional, all the way to a trillion dollar supercomputer with 20 Titan Omega XXX running things in 500k omega high quality. All three are Pc's and no the first and second one cannot be excluded because they're worse, they're both equally as much a Pc than the expensive one. If we're gonna go down that route you could laugh as a console player and be like "lmfao even the ps2 is better than that crusty dollarstore pc" and they would be completely correct because yes, the ps2 would be more powerful than that dollarstore pc, and by extension, a pc, is that a legitimate way to argue about these things? No. Because it never will be, Pc's do not at all fit into the console equation because its like comparing bicycles and then coming in "uh cars are better" Plus every time i check for the heck of it, it is almost impossible to make a Pc with performance exceeding consoles but staying below their price range since more often than not a new GPU capable of outperforming what the consoles have will cost as much or more than the entire console itself.
I am not a fan of console wars. I get socially harassed for owning an Xbox and for no reason, seriously I don't say anything bad at all about PlayStation or Nintendo(love Nintendo btw) and yet everyone laughs at me. :( Little do they know Xbox One/Series is the best place for almost every Sonic game.
Nowadays majority of games journalists are not interested in gaming but they want the benefits gaming industry can bring them cuz it's easier/ quicker compared to other type of entertainment industries that request them to know what they're talkin about cuz people won't listen or read the articl
It's hard to care about the console wars when I mostly just play indie games and fromsoft games on PC. It's also hard to care when most "exclusives" end up coming to PC eventually.
It's sad how some people don't even consider Nintendo a "real" game company, they think that Nintendo is just for little kids or adults that haven't grown up
I absolutely love console wars. I see it as they wouldn't be publishing great games if it wouldn't be a challenge to have customers buying their products.
It's always weird to me that Nintendo, one of the frontrunners of gaming, is often excluded from the modern console wars debate. I suppose people figure Nintendo caters to a seperate market than Playstation or Xbox?
That and Nintendo stopped caring about making a powerful home console after the GameCube. Once they struck gold with the Wii they opted for an unique experience that ties everything together.
Honestly, thats exactly why i love Nintendo consoles. Its not about performance, its about being unique and taking risks. When you look at something like the switch, sure its performance is crap compared to a PS5 or Xbox *whatever nonsensical name they chose* but it offers something neither of the competition do. Seamless change between on the go and on the couch on one system. That mentality is also reflected in their games. They don't aim for top of the line, they aim for unique experiences. Just saying bad performance doesnt take away from that. To use the same car analogy in the video, its like trying to compare a sports car to a motorbike. They have different usecases and different forms of enjoyment.
The thing I dislike about this war is when someone from one console group goes out of their way to talk in a group for the other console and constantly reply to every post, saying the experience is better on their preferred console. It just strengthens a person dislike for that other console. That and the people who say "oh you're a x/p fanboy", I own all 3 major gaming consoles and a PC. Verity is nice to have. Personally, I just love games, I don't really care which box I'm playing on as long as the game is good. People don't realize that they really shouldn't want their console to be the #1 console because a platform with no competition is a monopoly, and the Antitrust Act forbids such practices.
I miss the old console war because the companies got involved in the fun themselves These days the companies are civil and focus on themselves and the only people doing the console war shit are losers on the internet like JayTechTV

The console wars are a relic of the past but the past is looking more and more desirable as I get older, so I think they should stay around lmao. I loathe Tribalism and Consumerism immensely but I still think it's funny watching the Cavemen bicker amongst themselves. For me, the best part is watching both sides brag about their exclusives, and then watching those exclusives all get ported to PC anyways. Granted for PlayStation I have to wait a couple years to get their games but eventually is better than never imo
"The Cavemen bicker amongst themselves" get off your high horse, dude, it's fuckin' video games lol
but still no bloodborne after 8 years :c

The modern console wars SAVED us from the always-online requirement of Xbox One and the PS3 store shutdowns.
Meanwhile Nintendo, chilling in the background, just shut down their Wii U and 3DS stores, charging money from a poorly Online service and delisting iconic games. And they gets away with it, now that their competitor was long time gone (SEGA).
Hopefully Steam deck Will be the New competitor in the portable console, and the chinese Open consoles too (ambernic, etc)
@@baraodascolinas979 As long as Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon stay with Nintendo, they'll never go away. Steam deck and the open pc handhelds have loads of advantages and are leagues ahead of whatever nintendo hardware puts out.
But if you try to tell a parent a step beyond "buying the game cartridge" to get those games on a steam deck their not going to listen because it's "much harder".
@@NrettG that is true, but even nintendo is not invulnerable. They trashed my country (Brazil) : They took out the official store, And charge Full price for Games on digital stores in foreign currencies, and still do not make subtitles or dubbings. Result : Only young adults play Nintendo Now, and vast majority pirate their consoles and games. Kids are playing Minecraft, other games. Nintendo is past in Brasil therefore.
If Steam Goes and Say, create a separate store front (Steam Kids ?), with select good quality and kid friendly Games, and charges their prices, and switch emulation continues perfecting, people Will slowly Switch to steam and pirate Nintendo too.
Growing up during the 2010s it was actually cool as shit seeing different game company’s doing different things I remember putting the PS4 above the Xbox since it had a whole Vr side that was actually awesome tbh but beyond that I’m with you! I love console wars I think people will work harder and strives to be competitive against other game company’s
I was in middle/high school during the 7th gen. I was a PlayStation household and was in a class full of Xbox families, I defended the PS3 and cell architecture to death.
And here I am struggling to beat the gameboy Zelda games
This might be the most out of left field take. I think the newer wars are less wars than console boxing matches.
If you have a PC and a Nintendo console you probably have access to everything you're gonna wanna play anyway lol

Companies competing is almost always good. Fanboys however, are not. Loyal customers that don't judge products on their own merits actively damage competition.
When gaming companies pit fan bases together for maximum profits and gains
It's half the fun of it. I've probably had more fun shitposting and arguing about consoles and video game drama than actually playing them.
The great console war ended with the treaty of 2021 between xbox and playstation with nintendo having declared neutrality after the failure of the sega dreamcast

The console wars made it so that exclusives on the console had to be better then one another’s. We’re kind of in a drought right now. Everything’s cross platform and most of the exclusives/single player games as of recent have been lack luster. Not sure what to say anymore

This is the only channel i follow now that has current gaming stuff. I mostly play cities skylines and project zomboid on a PC i built in 2012 and I last switched my PS3 on about 4 years ago to play Final Fantasy 7. Sounds like it all degenerated.

My man, amazing video! I've never heard of you before, but I'm a fan now!
The only console war we should focus on are the people who play video games vs those that don't and those that don't are pretty weird
Sometimes, I feel ashamed for being a part of the gaming community. Just bec I bought X instead of Y, and somehow that’s a personal attack on them. Most of them, just compare pointless numbers to each others…
For one, the console wars are kinda petty at times, but it keeps the companies from doing whatever they want

I feel sorry for any of you that like the console wars

No. Because it never will be, Pc's do not at all fit into the console equation because its like comparing bicycles and then coming in "uh cars are better"
Plus every time i check for the heck of it, it is almost impossible to make a Pc with performance exceeding consoles but staying below their price range since more often than not a new GPU capable of outperforming what the consoles have will cost as much or more than the entire console itself.
I like the space bugs that can throw a meteor to Buenos Aires
I am not a fan of console wars. I get socially harassed for owning an Xbox and for no reason, seriously I don't say anything bad at all about PlayStation or Nintendo(love Nintendo btw) and yet everyone laughs at me. :( Little do they know Xbox One/Series is the best place for almost every Sonic game.
Nowadays majority of games journalists are not interested in gaming but they want the benefits gaming industry can bring them cuz it's easier/ quicker compared to other type of entertainment industries that request them to know what they're talkin about cuz people won't listen or read the articl
As long as competition continues to exist between the actual companies and both products keep improving for us, the players, then whatever :3
Console wars are fun. Some people just put too much stock into it and get upset, which can be funny to watch at least.
It's hard to care about the console wars when I mostly just play indie games and fromsoft games on PC. It's also hard to care when most "exclusives" end up coming to PC eventually.
The console war is all about love at the end of the day. True love of a console.

i just have a feeling it’s an intresting little thing for gamers to argue about, but some people take it too seriously
ahhh, when the console wars made each company actually make good games or bag GOOD exclusives.
Don’t forget about the sunk cost fallacy.
Sundowner of the console wars
Xbox One and the violent murder of Master Cheif kinda put the nail in the coffin.
Honestly consoles are just easier for me. I’m lazy and just want a game box. I have a pc which exists Just for tf2 and csgo now
The thing I dislike about this war is when someone from one console group goes out of their way to talk in a group for the other console and constantly reply to every post, saying the experience is better on their preferred console.
