Much appreciated review. I took delivery of my Miyako about 2 weeks ago, after 9 days in transit, and at least a year after Matt announced his intent to create it. Was it worth the wait and the risk of placing a bet on an unknown watch? Absolutely! This is my fourth Helm model and like you noted, it’s a no-brainer purchase. Build quality feels more expensive than it is, and the subtle details emerge enjoyably over time. Aside from the relatively minor issues noted, there’s far more positive to enjoy.
My Gosh, those macro and natural light shots! Wow! So good. I don't have to wonder what it would look like outside. You did all the hard work. Thank you. Subscribed!
Just got mine today from FedEx. Was #118 on the list, then #9, and then #10 for about 5 weeks. Looks better in person than the photos. Another home run IMHO (I also own the Vanuatu). Love the blue, the stepped dial, and the overall aesthetic. The only change for me was substituting the FC2 FOLDING CLASP for the standard clasp. I have it on my Vanuatu and really appreciate that it has quick adjustments and extra micro holes. Had to use the springbars that came with the FC2 as the standard clasp is a wee bit more narrow as this bracelet tapers more than the engineer bracelet on the Vanuatu. Still, its a good fit and adds to the utility of the watch by making it easier to adjust on the fly.
WOW I can already see this on my wrist!! For me this is Helms best yet. You brought up the few points I noticed with the white on the bezel not matching the dial, the clasp only having two micro adjustments and the date being small and not optional, but even with those few minor gripes I still want to buy one without a doubt!! The combination of dress watch aesthetics with tool watch functions is almost perfect for me. I love their other watches but this one is their best imo!! Gorgeous 👍
I look forward to getting and wearing this watch, I bought the Komodo on initial release and sold my SS Vanuatu for the Ti one that I love to wear. Thanks so much for the review 👍
Ohh I was hoping to be the first person in Melbourne to get the Miyako! Well done, good review and the colour I’m going for 👍 I have another Helm too, Vanuatu Ti
I've got the same version, slate grey dial. It is my 3rd watch by Helm, have the white Komodo and Vanuatu, too. In your video one can see some imperefections in the print quality on the dial in macro shots. It's worth noting that those are not visible with naked eye, that font is very small. I also have to admit that I got used to the tiny date window and find it quite charming. The bracelet could use some more micro adjustment slots though - some customers may not be lucky in fitting it perfectly to their wrists. Thanks for the very first review of the Miyako on UA-cam! Cheers from Warsaw, PL :)
Thanks for your comment 👍🙂 and yes totally agree, when you’re this close to a watch you can even find flaws on a Grand Seiko. All the best, hope spring comes soon in beautiful Warsaw
Thanks for the review! I got on the list the first day offered and was number 320. That has now dropped to 209 after Matt sent out the first batch. Hopefully my number will come up soon. I have the Komodo in white, but think I'm going to like this one better.
I'm just waiting on my Miyako arriving from Helm, I got on the waiting list about two weeks after the release and I am just now at the top of the list and I have heard that it's now around a four year wait, amazing for a microbrand.
1224 on the waiting list! I am so excited, I have been waiting for a dress diver like this with classic looks and a well-done date function. The Miyako may be the one for me, thanks so much for this review! How much does the bracelet taper? Is it usable for sports activities etc?
@@villagranvicent hi Ricardo, that is a really nice offer but I have to decline, I really want an orange one and if I buy any more watches in the next month my wife will loose her already stretched patience and do something I may regret! Thank you so much for your offer.
I absolutely love Helm watches and I think they're great for the price. That said, one thing that irks me about them (same on Vanuatu) is how the lume on the hands, indices, and bezel insert doesn't match. I had someone point that out to me once and now it's the first thing I notice 😒
FANTASTIC review! Thanks for all the great video shots of the slate grey. I've been 490 in line and that number hasn't changed in over 2 weeks. I guess I just have to be patient. I really want it by the summer, at least...and that should be possible/likely. Q: is the tapering bracelet too heavy on it? I found that I could not wear the Vanuatu on bracelet because it was too heavy.
Thanks so much for your kind words! The bracelet is heavy but not like the Vanuatu...it's more like a normal bracelet. That said the overall weight is 180g so not exactly light ☺️
I'm 3000 in the waitlist, but I'll take that all day long, compared to a free for all type system like Smith's. I'll patiently wait and check the number every now and again.
one thing which was evident to me was the second hand counter weight. it is the right size and length to border the logo, now thats attention to detail. this has the bracelet and the case shape of a christhoper Ward trident pro 600
Thanks for the review. I have the same version and agree with almost all your comments but find the clasp to be a bit sharp on the ends. Great photography.
Thank you for your comment and compliment! I’ve had this issue before with other watches. I bought some super fine sandpaper and that fixed it up. Might be worth a try?
Excellent review. I am currently #250s on the waiting list but I am having second thoughts on this one... I am not sure about the different hands/numbers tones and the 22mm lugs 🤔
So I can see my position on Helm’s wait list, but I don’t know how that translates into actual time? I’m around #6,500 for a Komodo, but what #are they on? I hope not #1!
I read on a comment left on one of their Instagram posts that they produced 150 of each model every month. So you may be waiting a while. I've been on the komodo list 10 months and I'm at 3047 and there getting more popular.
After initially dismissing this model (purely based on that date window) I finally put my name on the list..maybe by the time I can order, there will be a no date version?
I find the other Helm watches to be too big - not in overall size, but just in the design of the face. Big hands, big indices. Just everything big and blocky. This more refined style will be a big hit I'm sure.

Thanks David, Helm is consistently amazing value not just for the money asked but compared to many far more expensive brands. Enjoy it!
Great photography and the first review I've seen for a Miyako. Well done.

Mine arrived today. Only issue was the 2 micro-adjustments. I may buy another clasp from them with more holes for adjusting.

I am 250 on the list and also have a Komodo (black) but I find it a little too heavy on the bracelet, (I switch the clasp to the smaller one)
Good for you. I'm #1110 and it hasn't moved since December. At this rate that's still a seven month wait. :(

Tapers or 20mm, I’d say yes but it’s probably on the heavier side? Easily fixed with a rubber strap 🙂

Yeah it’s one of those things that’s hard to unsee! That said, it bothers me way less than misaligned markers etc which Helm never gets wrong 👍👍
Doesn’t match? Like in colour, alignment? 😊
