This is by far the cleanest video I've seen, detailed and camera work is top notch with no stupid music. I see you didn't change the tension pulley though.
@@friendlymechanic9778 Ah yes! The spark plug video is what brought me to you and made me a subscriber. Thank you for your service! As these cars age, I predict your subscription base will increase greatly. Seeing a ton of the 4cyl cars out on the road. They're fun to mod and can be pretty affordable to buy/own if you do the work yourself.
Thank you! I greatly enjoy making the videos for everyone to learn and see it’s not that scary to work on these cars as I thought when I first started. Cost of ownership goes down if you can do the maintenance yourself!
I have no idea why my belt can’t go back in , this been such a nightmare for no reason, & it’s exactly the same size as the old one. What on earth am I doing wrong 🤦🏻♂️
Most likely you’re not doing anything wrong. Sometimes that belt has a very tight clearance. If possible have someone pull back on the tensioner rather than the tensioner being held on by the pin. Have them pull as far back as possible and then at the same time push the belt into position. It is a pain and I have experienced this on occasion.
The car will still go into gear and drive. If you have a worn or cracking serpentine belt the car will function normally. You will run into issues when the belt completely rips off. If the belt rips off your going to experience things such as a battery light, shut down of certain electronics radio, ac blower, headlights things like this. Until the car ultimately turns off while driving. Best case scenario if the belt rips off is you just remove the old belt material that shredded itself off and install the new belt. Worst case scenario is the old belt material entangles itself around the crankshaft pulley and destroys the front main seal. Then replacement of the seal is necessary as well as belt replacement. Depending on the age and mileage of your current belt tensioner it is a good idea to replace the tensioner during the belt replacement. 1-5 year tensioner is okay to reuse. After 5 years I would replace it. There is no maintenance schedule for the tensioner this date range is just my personal experience with all the tensioners I have replaced.
When you see the belt cracking or fraying. Cracking you will see on the ribbed side of the belt and fraying you will start to see hair like material coming off the edges of the belt. When you see that it would be a good time to have it replaced.
Thx! Looks easy, question, can I start the car without belt? I have an engine noise (sort of humming/bearing noise and want to rule out the tensioner/bearings of A/C, alternator
Just did this job myself after watching you .. saved myself almost $200 bucks.. mechanic lost me at $150+ 😂😂. Quick trip to autozone and $22 later 🍾🎊🎉

Probably the best tutorial I have seen, Thank!!!
Very comprehensive step by step video. Thanks for making this. I am attempting to do this tomorrow on my wife’s car
Your welcome! Feel free to ask any questions if you need.
Thanks. I am all done. It took longer to drive to the parts store than to do the job. Excellent result.
That’s good to hear!
Thank you for pointing out all the problems we might come across grate video !!
fantastic, more detailed than FCP Euro. Thanks my friend
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching
I recommend you replace the tensioner also it’s a kit on Fcp euro and they wear together easy three bolts to change
very good video in details, step by step. thanks 😊

I agree, great video and easy to follow.

Great video! Would love to see B46/B48 videos to go along with my aging (but always beautiful) 230i.
Thank you!
I do have some videos with the B46 engine already uploaded. Specifically in the G20 playlist with the B46 and the G01 with the B46

@ they gave me the wrong belt at the auto parts store. Now it went in 🫠 thank you anyways for the advice
Ahh yeah that will do it. Okay glad it worked out. 👍🏼
Will this cause the car to not go into gear?

What size is that hex Allen key bro ?
4mm if I remember correctly

You can but not for long. The alternator won’t be charging the battery. I also wouldn’t do this with a weak battery.
Do the bolts need to be replaced too?
