BMW N55 Serpentine Belt System Replacement DIY (2010-2016 BMW F10 535i)

►The serpentine belt, also called the accessory or drive belt, can be responsible for several functions on an engine. In the case of BMW's N55 engine in the F10 5-Series, duties are limited to the A/C compressor and alternator, so replacing it is a very straightforward task. A typical lifespan is around 65,000 miles, but you won't want to wait until it fails for replacement.
The system consists of the main belt, a mechanical tensioner, and a couple of pulleys to keep everything on track. The belt is rubber, so it'll harden and crack over time. Pulley life is similar to the belt, but they should be replaced together if well used. A seized pulley will snap a belt with ease. Even a tensioner can go wrong, and while rarer than the other two failures, it's just as critical to replace it with everything else.
