Great video! Here's a tip that will remove a lot of frustration when fitting a new belt.
Install the idler pulley after routing the belt!!! So much easier...

Good video. Hard to really show what's going on in such a tight space but you guys did a great job with lighting and trying your best not to get in the way of the camera. I do have a suggestion for what you could use to replace that retention pin instead of a drill bit. Drill bits are very brittle and might snap when being used in this method, especially if someone decided to use a smaller diameter bit than what you used. I would use a nail instead as they are ductile and would bend before breaking, a dime a dozen, and if you accidentally left it in before removing the tensioner, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm not familiar with how much force the spring inside the tension arm is applying so take this suggestion for what it is, a thought.

Thank you for upload. Yesterday changed and replaced my belt, two pulleys and the tension pulley. N55gas 3.5 Xi x5. Current mileage 176,741 kms. When I took out the lower pulley that was making a sound, probably was the original factory. I bought the pulley and tensioner from FCP - OEM. Fit like glove. Fantastic videos thanks guys. 2 questions hopefully someone can help.
    1. I suspect this is the repair that I need to do, but I'm not 100% sure. My car currently makes a weird high pitched noise a little that sounds like the tensioner/belt needs to be replaced (I had done this previously at ~65k about 2 years ago. I'm at around 81.5k miles now sounds similar to before when I changed it). What are the normal side effects/tell tell signs that I need to change em.
    2. I have a 2013 335i xdrive coupe e92. Anything that I would have to do differently on my specific model?
    Thanks in advance!

At 60k miles I had my belt rip off, and dig through the crankshaft seal (front main seal). Pieces of belt ended up inside of the engine. Thankfully I turned the car off on time and we were able to pull the bottom end off and clean out all the belt pieces.

That's funny cause i just replaced my bmw 535i f10 M-Sport belt tensioner, two idler pulleys & German serpentine belt all OEM, yet my tensioner pulley still shakes as the new belt vibrates next to it so urs on this video seems normal. The problem with the old tensioner was that not only did it vibrated more than the new one but it also made bearing noise!
When the lettering on the old belt shows fading, then it's time for a new one!

  • @joeblow4795
    @joeblow4795 4 роки тому +5

You shouldn't need the drillbit. That's why they don't provide a metal rod for your old tensioner.
It's meant for you to remove the belt while holding the tensioner with the T60. Once you have the belt off, you can release the T60. They have the new one set for your convenience only.
I like your idea because the engine bay is tight. But just saying you don't need the drillbit. You can save the metal rod from the new tensioner for the next job.

So much harder than it looks.
Stripped the e12 somehow. Hopefully tightened it enough, but torque wrench never clicked
Gave up on removing the pulley, the t50 was getting twisted without any give from the bolt. So said f it I'll leave the existing pulley on.

I feel it was my fault....I drove it wayyyyyyy to hard. Redlined it all the time, took it to the track and gave it to my 16 year old neighbor. Sorry...whooooops!!

So it's not supposed to do that?! Took it to dealer and they said it was normal, have had it for 12k miles year n half, 94k total miles! On a 2016 435i. Taken many shortish road trips and driven it hard. Champ car so far

In colder weather my tensioner/belt force is good. When it is warm outside the passenger seat belt warning comes on saying it needs service. Is this related to the seat or the tensioner?

Are you seriously suggesting the engine belt tensioner has something to do with a seatbelt warning? Dude, time to get another car. You have no clue.
