Great video! New subscriber as a result! However, I would not recommend the Trenchers for the Rustler 4x4 VXL. Makes it just too flippy. If you are a speed freak, no go. Love the tires, just not on this rig.
hmm you'd think with the bigger tires on it, you'd get at least 1-2-maybe 3 more MPH out of it than the stockers. I also liked he put some sort of protection on his shocks. Lately, for idunno what reason, companies are starting to do away with the shock boots, which I thought was the greatest thing since sliced bread for shock shaft protection from dirt dust and grime. Dunno why they're taking those away. What did he use on his? seems to cover the entire shock. When you said, "Jonah called in sick today, so, yeeeaahh..." I thought the next sentence would be, "So he'll miss us doing speed runs with his truck!" lol Great video as usual!

Thank you for the video. It’s great to see what others are doing. Very helpful and informative. What’s the best gearing for speed and acceleration for skate parks and off road. What’s the best motor/Esc combo to make this a 6s comparable. Can any rustler do the self correcting flip over?
I hate how rc cars aren't offered in kits. Is it possible to just order it with zero electronics??! I could just buy all the parts, does anyone do that?
Traxxas has been offering more and more of their vehicles in kit form. They recently announced a Slash 2WD kit will be available soon, they also have their Stampede 4X4 kit and the TRX4 kit. Unfortunately, there are no kits for the Rustler platform yet. -Brett
What about the size difference of the Pro-Line belted Trencher tires and the added 'load' subsequently being placed on the motor? Should you gear down if planning more than speed runs on hard flat surfaces? Burning out one's motor can be such a drag.
Yes, good point; gearing down may be necessary for general driving using the larger Trencher HP tires. You'd have to pay attention to the temps. On a really hot day, definitely necessary. On a colder day, maybe not so much. -Brett
Question for you Brett - So I have a Rustler 4x4 VXL with Pro Line Badlands MX28 wheels/tires, a stock 4tec 2.0 VXL with Ford GT body, and a stock Slash 4x4 Ultimate. I was originally thinking of selling the 4tec and Rustler to buy a 1/10 Maxx, or sell just the 4tec and get a TRX4 sport. So I'd either have the Slash and Maxx, or Slash, Rustler, and TRX4 sport... What would you do? I feel like I'm leaning towards selling just the 4tec and getting a TRX4 sport, not sure if I'll be super into trailing/ crawling but figured maybe it's worth a try? I love off road stuff so I feel like I'd enjoy it. What are your thoughts on the TRX4 sport and just trailing/ crawling in general, and first getting into it? I feel like that's the direction I'm leaning towards because I feel like while the Maxx looks epic, seems like the Rustler 4x4 VXL I already have has a lot of the same features and speed capability. If the Maxx is game changing or something I'd probably go that direction but for now thinking of giving the TRX4 a shot. I'd love to hear your thoughts! I live in WI by the way, Milwaukee suburbs so decent amount of parks, e.t.c around. Thanks Brett have a great day and keep up the awesome work buddy
I guess it depends on what type of driving you enjoy doing the most. Like you said, you may have some overlap in vehicle capabilities, and the Maxx may not offer much of what your Rustler 4X4 can't do; perhaps in fact, your Rustler may offer more high speed performance, where the Maxx falls short. We had a blast with our Maxx, but it sits high and pops a lot of wheelies, especially when you don't want it to. If it was me, I'd ditch the Slash and keep the Rustler 4X4, keep the 4-Tec (I need to hit the pavement full steam sometimes) and get the crawler. Crawling is slow, thought out and gets you on some fun adventures. And, it's super easy for new people to get the hang of it without breaking your truck, if you want to bring someone alone. I know the Slash is fun, but the Rustler jumps better, has self-righting and since it's wider, flips over WAY less. But these are my preferences and your results may very. But I like having a vehicle for all the categories; off-road, on-road and crawling. Kind of keeps you covered for whatever comes up. Hope this gives you some good things to think about! And regardless of what happens, you have some nice R/C cars dude! Have fun. -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks Brett!! Appreciate your thoughts, yeah maybe I will have to try crawling then. I'd love to see some of your RC collection on the channel like this video!
Looking to buy one of these for my wife.. She started with a brushed 4wd and is ready to upgrade... Really like some oof the upgrades... Would love to find out if those wheels are available for the Sledge and the Hoss
Hey David. Here's what Pro-Line offers for the Trenchers in your size: www.amainhobbies.com/search?s=3.8+trencher The first listing are the "HP" version which means they are belted and very stiff with little give. Great for high rpm, speed run type of driving, or if you are having tire ballooning issues. They are big tires, sized for the Sledge but not Hoss. The 2nd listing are the normal "LP" tires and I believe they are a little smaller than the Sledge tire but they'll fit. I believe they'll fit the Hoss too, although we haven't tried it. The last tires are the "MX38" and they're similar to the last tire, but bigger and most ideal for your Sledge. Hope this helps! -Brett

Luv your vids man. I was researching my sons car and I want to put the brushless system in his Rustler 4X4 and I found out Traxxas doesn’t put the diff parts all in the Diffs. So I say WHY 😲 if we put The 3 s system in it the Diffs will not last. Their answer is to bad I should know these things. Well how’s that for customer service and communication to the buyer PLEASE tell people these things we all need to know this Especially that Traxxas is not building their Diffs properly in their brushed models. Only the brushed Diffs they do this lack of part installing They do not put the Center block and that’s the most important for structural integrity within the Diffs.
AMain Hobbies Thanks bud. Sry for the rant. I just expected better for the new model. The Rustler 4x4 I’ve been waiting for them to come out. I knew it was a top notch model. My son will keep the brushed system for now but will it fail faster if we put the upgrade system in it. More easily with out the Center block in the Diffs yes it would. It needs to be there. Anywho I do apologize for my words they could have been given in a better form. Thank you for your reviews I am glad you do them for all of us to look watch and learn from.
i got a new traxxas and i need to fix my slipper clutch its so annoying to fix it you have to keep taking apart the whole car btw i have a stampede 4x4 vxl
Could one take the front and rear of a slash 4x4 and bolt it onto the rustler 4x4 chassis or is there a too much difference within those sections? I know the centre shaft would need changing and a LCG would be an easier swap than a HCG.
How Expensive are your upgrades like Aluminium shocks Aluminium front bumpers front and back plus New Motors and Battery 11.1 WITH a 4000kv or 38000kv Motors with speed Controller

Only the brushed Diffs they do this lack of part installing
They do not put the Center block and that’s the most important for structural integrity within the Diffs.
Wow, hadn't heard that. You'd definitely want a durable diff with a 3S Brushless system. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks bud.
That probably won't work without some custom fabrication. The Rustler 4X4 is a new platform, not the same as the Slash 4X4.

Wait so you should keep the dust cloth on when it's hot?
No the opposite. You want to let the heat from the electronics escape out of the chassis to keep them cool, otherwise you might overheat them.

@@AMain_Hobbies ohh ok thanks
wait...... did he just say "snazzy"?
I think he did. Should we get him?

@@AMain_Hobbies haha nice!
How's mine doing 40 mph with a 12 tooth pinion and 9.6 volt battery?
How Expensive are your upgrades like Aluminium shocks Aluminium front bumpers front and back plus New Motors and Battery 11.1 WITH a 4000kv or 38000kv Motors with speed Controller
The truck is still newer so there are not too many aluminum upgrades at this point, but here are the Aluminum upgrades for the Rustler 4X4: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-rustler-4x4-parts/c12909?s=aluminum&fb=23

Did he change the pinion gear to accommodate for the larger tires?
No, I don't think he did. But he'd have to once the summer heat warmed up. At the time of this video the heat hadn't picked up yet.

"Trolling" 🤓
The drive shafts are junk on 3s ! If you plan on running 3s upgrade the drive shafts! I have a stampede it's the same drive shafts they explode on 3s !
I have a stampede and it never blows a driveshafts
@@logancosandier3958 I have a 2wd and a 4wd and they don't hold 3s power unless I don't get on it !
@@christopherlastname7638 I have a 2wd and 4wd too, and I do speedruns and flips all the time, and have only broke one shaft on the 4x4
I agree complete JUNK! had mine around 2 months and they have blown out 3 times now. Rustler vxl 4x4
Never destroyed a single one driving hard on 3s
I have the same one
