I finally ordered myself the red/blue Vxl 4x4 Rustler and can’t wait to get it should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday! Will be a fun summer of rc! I’ll do some hop ups when the seasons over and winter comes again and use this video for tips and parts to upgrade
Hitler 464 it overheats quickly down here in Texas when running it with a 3s lipo (unless run it without the body, then you get more run time with it). Aside from that it’s a great and durable car.
@@arturosilva4219 Yeah if you already didn't upgraded it a heatsink+fan on the motor and esc solve the problem.... or a 4s esc since they are compatible with the 3500 velineon motor that can handle more power and more heat...and higher gearing.
strongest rustler 4x4 in my opinion and reliable 1 rpm front and rear arms 2 rpm front caster blocke 3 traxxas driveshafts metal 3 gtr front and rear shocks 4 hd steel spur 5 slipper bearing adaptor 6 savox servo 7 hobbywing max 10 combo 8 rpm long turn buckle rods . for all rurn buckles
ETC the upgrades for the 2wd are more than the car is worth mines fully upgraded rpm all the way around hot racing transmission strc slipper shaft conversion mip cvds the transmission and cvds alone are worth more than a used rustler I got my rustler for 50$ and have more than 300$ into it
The only upgrades I haven’t done, are the wheels, axles, GTR Shocks, and wheelie bar wheels. Maybe Traxxas will extend their Power Up program to suspension parts.
Unlike the MAXX WIDE Kit FIX, this is truly an upgrade. The MAXX is a FIX that the Consumers are paying way too much for. The MAXX Wide Kit Fix should be done at hobby store pricing.
Certain plastic parts break, so you don't break more expensive parts, like the chassis or diffs. I'll gladly break some carriers or arms if it means I don't have to replace a chassis or diff.
I love this truck, just got it and i've already fell in love, but there's one problem, the motor gets way too hot (running 3s 5000mah stock gearing on road) even going soft with the throttle, what should i do?
Hey, it happens to me too. It even sometimes burns my hand. Even going slow heats it up. I normally just once finishing my session just let it cool down and take the cover off. Not too sure why it heats up so quickly.
@@ddm6779 Hi, i installed the velineon esc fan and a yeah racing heatsink with two fans, yesterday i used it really hard offroad and at the end of the run i could keep my finger on the motor for a few seconds without getting burned, so it's a good improvement. if you need to run it cooler you can install a smaller pinion to downgear it, watch the manual
My Rustler 4x4 VXL doesn’t seem to have the same power and speed on 3s it did awhile back. Hard to wheelie and much slower. I’m wondering what it could be? This is my first RC. I put same 3s battery in nephew Stampede 4x4 VXL he’s been running on 2s and training mode and instantly snapped an axle it was putting out so much torque and power his tires was ballooning. What’s wrong with my Rustler? Slipper clutch, bearings going bad causing too much drag, bent center drive shaft rubbing chassis I’m lost. I guess I better tear it apart but I’m not sure I know enough about it to know when I find the problem.
Check bearings first on each wheel hub and if those pass check the center diff as it could be those bearings or a melted bearing carrier they use on those stock diffs
👍 there's a plastic insert that holds the bearing on the center diff it could very well be that. If so get a aluminum one and u won't have to worry about it ever again
SpydR513 the part Todd mentioned is 5$ and is a must not sure why they didn’t come stock with something like that the slash is the same way I got mine and it already had a brass one not sure what slipper set up I have it’s an upgraded aluminum slipper with hardened metal gear and brass adapter very rigid and haven’t had an issue other than the pinion gear was worn from it being a softer metal than the spur gear but a hardened steel pinion fixes that upgrades make this hobby what it is imo
You bought that many? After one break at the price they cost you should have stopped. I never buy traxxas replacement parts they are overpriced. Get MIP driveshafts, they are made of hardened carbon steel. I have them on my slash and they haven't broken in 4 years. You couldn't break them if you tried.
imagine wagons I’m with you their I have them in my xo-1 they break every time I run it they just twist off at the diff or the silver and they don’t have them at my lhs so I order 3of each offline
Game Bred Duramax I’ve got more runs off my traxxas cvds than I got out of the Integy2 ones I bought stripped the grub screw installing them then ordered replacements and took it in the snow and they disassembled due not having lock tight on one of the screws that holds the lower dog bone to drive shaft hub section witch was not stated in the instructions that you had to completely disassembled and reassemble with lock tight they look nice but definitely do not recommend just spend the money’s on the mip
Traxxas, when you change the servo to a high tork 1 why dont you change the servo horn to a aluminum 1, and do the vxl3 esc put out enough power to handel that servo whitout a bec?
The GTR shocks are larger. Traxxas "big bore" shocks really aren't big bores at all. They're basically aluminum ultra shocks with titanium nitride coated shafts. The actual oil capacity is the same as the ultra shocks. I'd recommend going with the GTR's over the "big bores".
The stock battery hold down (I'm assuming you're talking about a 2wd) is not made for batteries that big. The biggest battery I've been able to fit (with no modifications) is a 2 cell 5000 mah hardcase LiPo. That being said, Traxxas does sell a battery tray expansion kit which allows you to run larger batteries. If you're talking about a 4x4 model, Traxxas does sell a different battery hold down which will give you the space for a larger pack
Hey Traxxas, I have. Rustler 4x4, I have encountered many problems with the rustler, some were on me so I will not include those problems but besides the titan 550 always burning out even when not beating on, the steering servo always goes out. Today I was taking my truck down to an empty parking lot, mad sure all my systems were in check, I put the truck down and went for a pass through. Had no peoples the first turn but then the second pass I went to turn and nothing, no turning and the servo was just clicking. I replaced my servi before cause I landed wrong after a jump but it was the 3rd run after I replaced it. I run a 2cell lipo and it keeps happening. Is there a solution to this problem?
If you gonna drive this on the street, put street tires, put a smaller spur, and put the shocks in soft positions....otherwise you will keep flilling over, cause its an offroad setup. Thank me later
If you put the ESC to 50% you can still have tons of fun without constantly breaking stuff. Also figured that the metal drive shaft do nothing but tear apart internal structures much faster. It’s always the weakest link that breaks. So we’re back to heavy duty drive shafts in plastic but don’t have to worry about the gearing getting messed up by the 3s on 100%.
Great vid!😇 but can you make a 1/16 e revo 2.0?plz like my comment traxxas, i have 7 traxxas rc's and they are the best because of: you include upgrades for the cars ,do cool videos and doing tutorials for the upgrades, i will never get a rc car from other rc team.
The body graphics on these New models are so ugly. Why they change it to something that’s not want me to purchase one. Good thing Some still have the Original Pro Graphix body paint finish.... but for how long.
I gotta say, I agree with you there. Compared to its 2WD sibling, the Rustler 4x4 looks like it's from a completely different planet. I would've loved to see Traxxas make it look like the 2WD version, similarly as to what they did with the Slash 4x4 and Stampede 4x4.
