Man, an RB on twins just sounds so correct! It’s got that fierce tone up top, but still sounds refined and neat like a true motorsport engine
Agreed, the RB TT is the best sounding car engine at full song, with an LS as a close second. Of course there are F1, 787B, top fuel dragster, and exotic cars but those two are the best sounding engines most folks can actually afford.
Use a uv dye for the oil pan leak. You put the dye in your oil and let it run a little while. Then use a uv flashlight with yellow glasses that come with it usually. And the dye will glow green and show you were the source is coming from. Probably a small Crack in the pan
Came here to say this. I have run into this exact problem on two occasions, both with cast aluminum pans. Once on a LS and once on a Honda F20c. In both situations I used UV dye to solve the problem.
Facts
So good! That GTR is a beauty and, for engine bay styling, keeping it true with the twins brings back all the early 2000s vibes. Great work!
The Dyno guy really knows his stuff. Knew the issues with just pulling the fuse and that the motor was not prepped for 20 psi (head gasket and studs). Great car and that engine bay looks awesome. keep up with the great content fellas.
Love the giggle out of D.P when he gets in the GTR,the excitement brings car guys back to childhood
Such a great job on this project. Love the “NA is best shirt” while working on a very complicated twin turbo car 😂
Finally got to see the GTR drive on the road. Pete you are my hero to just attempt it on those not so great local roads, aside from those scary train tracks. Soo happy for you to finally get to drive it. Look out Dave, track day is going to be fun. Super pumped to see both of these JDM legends on track.
You might consider doing a dye penetrant test on your oil pan to find any pinholes, cracks, etc.
So exciting !!! can't wait for the sing off to happen at TMP!! RB with them sweet harmonies and 2j with some funky J pop will be a night we all won't forget!! You guys are the true legend JDM promoters !!
Hey guys! Glad you're back working on these 2 legends! I'm so glad you showed the oil leak on the v160. I'm about to put mine back in and I'd never heard of that one. I'll replace the seal before I install it. Thanks again for more great content boys, love it!
I use Leak trace powder at work all the time. Clean the oil pan with brake cleaner and a rag until everywhere is dry, then spray leak trace powder over the whole pan, and run the engine until you see the leaks.
Will buy some thanks!
@@speedacademy no problem! It’s tough to get into tight spaces, but it solves 90% of mystery leaks for me!
Those wheels, color combo, fitment, all of it, so damn perfect.
This is one of the big episodes you really look forward to! It's track day will be the next one haha The NA is BEST shirt while working on his twin turbo R34 GTR is pretty priceless too. Well played, Pete!
His shirt isn't wrong though 👍
The purity of the twin turbos. ❤
That TEE is FIRE!!! Of course, we would love a DC2 vs. EK version even more.
You guys are killing it! Keep it up!
Such a cool car, well done on your build.
Crazy to hear and see all that power from the Skyline!
Lol in Australia those numbers are low
NA is best while working on a twin turbo car...
I don't know but that car has not stop leaking at any point. Leave it to Pete to find all the leaking cars in the world.
Holy shit ...it's actually going to happen???? Yes!!!!
On my JZZ30 Soarer with a V160 6 speed, I have twin CT12 highflowed (47mm) turbos on my 1JZ VVTI (264/272 cams, ARP headstuds, e85, Haltech elite 2500). Only fitted the twins because I'm friends with a talented fabricator who put it all together. Car makes 550whp at 25psi, with factory-like response, but like you guys mentioned, for ease of fitment and power, a single turbo would probably be the way to go.
Either way, have loved this series 10/10, love seeing GTR/Supra content.
Glad to be back to this series!
This thing sounds so damn good!
Chemdye the oil and then use an ultraviolet light to find the micro crack
Such and awesome build with a legend! Where can you go from here?!? Great Job guys!
i really love how the RB sounds
Pete try some liquid penetrant inspection on the pan. Will show cracks 1nm in size with the right dye and developer
You guys still have under 100k USD gtr r34s over there in Canada? I just found your page and your videos are very good!
You guys are so lucky! This is anyone dream’s garage. Now if you could only get an EVO 9, an 04-07 STi, and an FD2 RX7! 😁
Keep up the great work guys!
I mean Pete has an Evo 9 wagon and dave has an FD 🤷♂️😂
@@lukekindred1999 They do? Oh shit I didn’t know.. That’s awesome. What ever happened to the S2K??
@@Mike_44 they sold it. the new owner is still competing in gridlife with it though.
@@JuanNugraha71 Oh I see.. That was an iconic JDM car too.
"NA is best" shirt
Standing in front of a GTR is pure comedy
oil leak on pan? ... dust it with blue chalk or talc powder and watch for the colour change
brilliant.
God I love these R34 GTR’s especially in that silver! Reminds me so much of the Z-Tune R34. The sound of the RB26DETT is by far my favorite sounding engine! I much prefer the sound of the RB26DETT over the 2JZ all day! In my opinion there’s no comparison
Speaking of the track and your oil cooler updates. You can play with the bango and open ports designs and tune how long your oil sits in the cooler and amount of temp exchange. We run Orifice plates to tune our coolers.
Have had a sump hairline crack on a rb26 before and I'm sure we both aren't alone. Old molds maybe or just a flaw would be my bet. Very irritating though.
Some genius at Toyota decided we don’t need sump gaskets, just FIPG. He was wrong. It’s the only place they leak oil and both of my 3S-GTEs and my 1JZ-GTE have very slight leaks.
I’ve learned to live with it as it doesn’t ever show on the dipstick between oil changes.
Use liquid moly with the dye under black light to find the crack. And just add a vibrant resonator to the exhaust n I bet it will quite down nicely.
I love to come here to escape the dumbness in the world these days. Just a couple super positive, well mannered friends who get to show us stuff we all want to do, but don’t get the opportunity. So much to learn and to get to experience here.
Put a valve in the exhaust. I have a varex muffler on my R34 GTR. I custom hooked it up with three modes. Open, closed and auto. Auto has it so that over 30% throttle and 10kph that the valve is open
true tomei is really loud i use it my self ! if u want something less loud i suggest Ganadro Racing titan it sounds AMAZING and its NOt that loud the only reason i had to take it off due to back pressure as my build is over 1k hp :)
Silver R34 = absolute perfection. Well done 👍
Awesome video guys
After the camera fell, that was a good angle.
DP's honest reaction @ 11:26 😂😂
Supra is definitely in trouble. GTR is looking healthy and ready to run fast.
Hell yeah Pete! My God does that thing look beautiful! And the sound!
Would be nice to give us a fleet update so we can at least see them
4'' kak on mine, its loud but it never bothered me before but the older I get the more it does. I have a 2'' insert I made up for mine, its quiet but wont rev much past 3k. I do also suggest playing with cam timing. e.g you might pick up 20 hp at 3k but only loose 5 after 7.5k so its a good trade off for street/track. It will help allow lower rpm shifts on the street keeping noise down but with a 6 speed and 4.11's (or 5spd with 4.4's) you arnt going to get much speed out of each gear shifting that low. Drive it for a bit as is first so you can make a better, educated decision.
Sounds like half of a Murcielago, great exhaust system.
Fully advancing the intake cam will bring the turbos on sooner. Agree a lumpy cam shifts the power band on these, its actually unnecessary to do an exhaust cam for that power target. Very healthy linear tune though. I personally went with a VCAM in mine, it gained about 40rwkw across the rev range. I always recommend to all my GTR friends to go VCAM if they want a nice street and track car. It just modernizes the car, makes it pleasant to drive on the street, fuel efficient, increases longevity of the engine and has power on tap even with bigger turbos.
Nissan originally wanted to do a v6 on the r34 gtr but they were going broke. Engineers had designed it, pretty sure it was close to (if not) the VR38. They invested money in the RB25 Neo which also has fully variable cam timing (not just a 3 point cam timing like the r33 rb25). The neo is more modern than the 26.
Sweet been waiting for this finally to bad about the Supra with the leaks. Great video guys
Favorite GTR on UA-cam 😍
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 YES, been too long waiting for this
Maybe set up a time lapse camera under the car overnight to find the source of that oil pan leak?
That's a good idea
Genius
What an amazing car, I'm totally envious. Oh, Nissan, what happened to you? Need those glory days back haha. I made the same mistake with the exhaust on my 350Z, and it's definitely not daily friendly..but I'll be damned if I don't love it. Great stuff as always, lads ✌️
Woohoo! DynoDay! Is that like a national holiday? It should be.
Would be cool if you compared the R34 in RWD vs 4WD mode on the track
So freakin awesome and finally. Up garage usa carries Mine VX Pro exhaust
I learned that the Vincent Black Shadow (old motorcycle) painted the engine case because the aluminum castings were too porous. Maybe some paint on the oil pan?
Good looking shirt design.
PT. I think there is a powder that lights up with UV light you can use to find the sump leak spot.
Humble mechanic on UA-cam did a vid using it on his miata some time ago
A lowfi idea for the oil leak. You could adhere some paper to the cleaned up pan and come back a few hours later and see of there is a small brown spot soaked into the paper. Should at least give you a starting point
I've seen a factory Honda block have coolant seeping through the aluminum pores, it happens, but very rare.
Need another build off how about the old Sentra se-r and maybe neon acr? To cheaper old NA cars that have a good race history
Two beautiful cars!
maybe if you tape a papeltowel to the pan tight you can see where the leak is
it depends on the R33/R34. there is a small Yellow plug under the dash in the 33R that you unplug and then start it up... Tap on the brakes 3 times and the AWD light will come up. Use to drive mine like that all the time for fun. Never had any issues with the AWD system
Driving is fine as 4 wheels are rotating at similar speeds, but on a 2WD dyno where the front wheels are not rotating at all, you are burning up the clutch pack since it has mechanical pre-load.
@@aDaWaN never had a issue with mine?. Drove like that for years with that trick. Still launched hard in AWD
An idea for a temporary you could clear coat paint the bottom of the oil pan. A clear would keep it looking the same.
Re drop that NA is best shirt please !!!!
Wow! The r34 sounds amazing!! Nissan power baby!! Put it in awd and gap the Supra!
That NA Is Best t-shirt tells the story... 🤣
So good
rb26 is the greatest sounding engine of all time.
Put some dye in the oil and find the leak. worth it just for piece of mind.
Pete if i was you i would get the GTR dry ice blasted on the underside.
I know it’s out of ya’ll hands… but I was excited to buy a shirt until I saw the cheapest shipping option is $20. I even live in Canada! Can’t justify a $60 tee shirt
" could work the cams" you should adjust the cams. you would get the turbos to spool quicker. you shouldn't rev a stock rb26 to 8000rpms- oil pump failure-block cracks. don't ask how i know
Could definitely get some lower gains with some static camshaft adjustment. That's a little late for that setup but whatever, still a good outcome
Rub the oil pan with a cake of soap in the area you think it is leaking - the soap with stop the leak
You could also do a dye penetrant test. Idk if that's been mentioned yet. The kit is fairly cheap.
Depending on how your oil cooler and oil filter lines are setup you can actually bypass the oil filter and cooler with too much restriction in the cooler.
👂sounds amazing 💪
Why is the torque so low? Should check out the HKS Hi-Power Silent Exhaust - gives off a beautiful unique RB tone and its not too loud. I love mine, certainly not quiet though but not as loud as the Tomei
Nice shirt!
Arp studs. Head gasket. N1 pump [think u did already] and you could go 550+ on e85 :0 I see this video in future
I had to machine this pipe down to fit and then use a framing hammer to drive it home lol
I thought you guys were close enough to touch elbows on the arm rest 😂
You’d have been better off with one size down in the turbos. Those 2860s do nothing until 4500 and that’s a little late for the street imo
Maybe use that liqui moly glow in the dark oil to where it is leaking
Porous casting most likely. I’ve had the same issue with a water neck.
Awesome
I think the Supra just needs some slightly wider tires. Other than that everyone is underestimating the Supra, everyone forgets it’s a purpose built sports car!
Banjo fitting always give me problems getting loose often.
10:48-11:33-12:31-15:06
It’s like Batman and robin. Honda the Batman and Nissan and Toyota robin
Imagine if Godzilla whispered at you.
@speedacademy did you put the GTR back to 4WD?
HKS super turbo exhaust!
On order!!
What spark plug model do we end up going with?
What's going on with the FD bro 🪖🙏😉🤤
@speed academy what octane? Was this on e85 or pump gas?
what the part NO# on the new oil cooler fitting!!! I have been looking for that and un-successful search
Why didn't you Rev it higher?
