I'm so excited that this sort of thing is becoming more common place with the new complete builds of classic cars that try to keep to the original concepts but with modern refinement. I hope Mine's can keep doing exactly this for many more generations.
Mine's R34 is legendary and still holds up performance wise with some of the fastest modern supercars. I would have liked to hear more about Niikura-san's engine building philosophy and what makes his engines so responsive.
JDM Masters has a video where they also visited Mine's and they did get to talk about how they build their engines. TL;DR They build the bottom end for extremely high power levels (900+hp) but they tune the engine to produce about 500-600hp because that's the sweet spot of having enough power to make it exciting, but not so much that it's uncontrollable.
This is exactly why I love brands like HKS, Mines, TOM'S, GReddy, ARC etc... So much attention to detail in all of their products/builds and all of their stuff has a timeless style. Im more of an domestic car person myself but damn do I appreciate stuff like this
I RARELY can say a car is built pretty much exactly how'd I want it. Holy baloney that interior, the wheel fitment, that pristine engine bay with the most Godzilla strutbar I've seen! If I could build a R33 to even a breath of this car's quality, few things would have me happier 😭 Thank you Mine's team, Nissan, Hagerty and Larry for bring this car to the world, I will cherish this video.
Larry, you just recently popped on my radar via Hagerty and it's been hit after hit! You just seem to cover all the right things. I'm not really a JDM guy either! Keep em coming!
I’ve been following Larry since we was shooting for all of the tuner magazines. Well before he was working for hagerty. These guys have broght on some of the best hosts though. If I’m not mistaken, they even have Matt Farrah from the smoking tire working with them.
Not to mention that there aren't any unnecessary sculpting lines or ridiculously outrageous design features on these cars. Such a bold contrast against today's cars.
Ok so back in the late 90s I was around 17 and I used to have this car in the GT2 for play station 2. This is still one of those dream cars that has always been a vehicle that’s timeless to me. It will always be an icon.
By far the best automotive channel on YT. Thank you Larry for this feature, you’ve been killing it lately. I’m glad the world is now seeing the ingenuity, passion and craftsmanship of the Japanese that I’ve been following for the past 20+yrs
I remember seeing the video of Tsuchiya-San and Orido-San driving the Mine’s R34 and the Big Fat Torque Monster Supra in junior high back in the early 2000’s. Seeing the RPM’s in the R34 shoot up was absolutely bonkers.
The fact Mine's is still doing this up to this day just shows how legendary as well as iconic this brand is in car culture. Most car enthusiasts when it comes to the nissan skyline platform would go for flat out raw power, but there's another different type of car enthusiasts those who prefer a well balanced perspective of the beloved skyline models. Shout out to Mine's for doing what they do best as well as keeping JDM car culture going strong today as well as for the next generation of car enthusiasts.
Most of us dream to own such cars as a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Mclaren but i think a lot of us would be over the moon to own a Mine's GTR. This R33 is amazing and would be a thrill to drive every single day
What most internet hero's will never understand is that a 600ish hp at the wheels, balanced GT-R is a far superior car to drive than a 1000 + wheel horse power one. Mine's truely is the dream street GT-R set up.
Yep, they are famous for the engines but whoever did that dash and interior could make a killing if they sold them with a core discount! Not only the GT-R but a lot of JDM legends who weren't treated kindly by the sun and just everyday wear.
i respect the overall goal that they have as a layman versus slam as much power in as you can. This is more refined. almost like a fine wine of the auto world. thank you for the tour
I want that R33 ! - Mine”s builds, are all about Balance-Response-& Durability. The attention to detail and the unmatched quality that Mine”s produces, is the prime example of perfection. To me, it does not get any better than this… I❤Mine”s.
What’s so amazing about how MINE’s tune there cars is that they are able to squeeze out so much power out of the engine but not sacrificing its on track performance, it can kill in a drag race but it can also turn too. Just excellent tuning.
I owned a modified R32 while on Okinawa greatest car/race car I ever owned....I drove it hard and it could take it, no major breakdowns while I owned it, these cars are so tough, now I have a Toyota Mark X 300G which is pretty nice on the Island.
I need one badly, of all the cars in the world , I want that 33 so bad makes me forget about porch for a while. Thanks guys for bringing this episode, means a lot as a fan
I am grateful and extremely blessed to own a Gtst r33, especially here in the United States. But man oh, man if one day I could afford one of these beautiful specimens. Just an absolutely beautiful vehicle and piece of art. We always say that the Japanese do things, right, take their time, and everything is perfection when it comes to vehicles like this. And that still stands true at Mines. Wow wow wow
It is sooooo beautiful… if I had half a mil available, I’d order one without question and then I’d drive it 250k miles across the world from the US, to Europe, to Japan, Australia. Just to enjoy life and see the sights
While many people love the R34 GTR, I personally love the R33 GTR. Its design looks sleek from the R34 especially from mid to rear end. So beautiful and muscular.
Mines green is SICK! So understated yet special and rare to see incorporated on anything else. These guys are truly incredible in their dedication and execution.
I'm a muscle car guy. But I've always loved the gtrs. I've played gran tourism 1 2 3 4. Almost every game had these cars. It's so crazy to see them now. Good job mine's. 👏 🙏 😎
These last 2 videos have hit my soul in a place I did t know anyone could reach. That mines demo car also eddie d a part of my life. I never knew such a thing was possible… then there was Gran Tourismo……
What a series this is, unbelievable! 👏 Such a great work from you guys. Enjoying every episode so far, probably one of the best car culture series on UA-cam.
This is a car you can commute every day, track every weekend and it will still last forever. I've had my '93 240sx for 19 years and finally swapped an sr20det with mine's tuned ECU. Mine's = quality
Mine's is one of my favorite Japanese car companies for me I remember watching the DVD's that came in magazines in the late 90's early 2000's on their cars I dreamed of there parts same as Jun GT "Jun auto" Toda tomei top secret and hks! Thanks for this vlog it was epic
That's definitely my dream R33. I wish we could have seen a little more to add length to the video. I'm gonna age myself here a little, but I remember when the R33 GTR was the new hotness. I have fond memories of those days.
I've visited this shop, back when the R35 came out. Me and and another guy with R35's and a third with a sweet R34 drove down to see what they were doing. I had pre-ordered the R35 and got one the first week of sales, and this was only 3-4 months later, so Mine's didn't have much developed yet. I actually found the R35 boring, so I went to a neighborhood specialist broker to see if he wanted to sell it. "Sure but what will you drive instead? You want an F430? I got a customer whose build slot is next week but he doesn't have the money to pay for it. You can spec it but you got to spec it by Friday." I got one of the last (maybe THE last?) normal manual convertibles as they were already only making the special runout models that were apparently all F1 transmissions.
Remember getting the MINE's cars in Gran Turismo and they basically felt like supercars.
X2
The MINE’s cars in Gran Turismo were so good they would compete with race cars on Nurburgring. Outstanding Craftsmanship.
i remember being so psyched when i had earned enough money to purchase a Mine'sin GT1. what a nostalgic throwback.
The r34 mines looked so so beautiful in gt4
Ikr!!! I hope that Polyphony would bring this thing back in GT7 soon!!!
Thank you guys so much for watching! This was without a doubt a dream car to drive!
Once in a life time experience. Absolutely epic.
Larry, thank you for an incredible video!
Any chance to get a hi-res wallpaper of the shot from 4:15 min? Just looks mental
You're the man! Chingón de chingónes!
Beautiful work, your shots are impeccable.
Man this was freaking awesome
Mine's (to me) is to GT-R, as Singer is to Porsche. They are so nicely and thoughtfully tuned and built. And their style, is inspiring to this day!
Maybe a tad more affordable too.
Mine's is better IMO because they have such a history with these cars from the start
not singer, more like Ruf
no, RUF is more accurate
@@isukarse exactly, but now I wanna see a Singer-level skyline
The attention to detail by Mine’s is simply incredible
It's very credible.
i bet it blows 800-1000hp skylines out of the water also. in how it lays power down
I'm so excited that this sort of thing is becoming more common place with the new complete builds of classic cars that try to keep to the original concepts but with modern refinement. I hope Mine's can keep doing exactly this for many more generations.
This is called a restomod lol
Also kudos to Nissan to keep the parts coming for these engines! Their passenger cars have been meh but boy do they know how to make a sports car.
This video could've been 2 hours longer and it still would've felt too short. 👏🏻
For real! It was lovely and satisfying to watch!
Mine's R34 is legendary and still holds up performance wise with some of the fastest modern supercars. I would have liked to hear more about Niikura-san's engine building philosophy and what makes his engines so responsive.

This is why I am car enthousiast! Love the JDM culture and the way is this is pictured by Hagerty! Great job guys
I RARELY can say a car is built pretty much exactly how'd I want it.

Thank you Mine's team, Nissan, Hagerty and Larry for bring this car to the world, I will cherish this video.
Just brought back childhood memories of driving this for hours in Gran Turismo 2
Lol determined to try a different car, always ended up hooning the Mines GTR around track!
I thought the same thing as i watched it.... those were the good days.
Larry, you just recently popped on my radar via Hagerty and it's been hit after hit! You just seem to cover all the right things. I'm not really a JDM guy either! Keep em coming!
I would recommend watching his photoshoot of the Nissan Z Proto, it's gorgeous. You can find it on his UA-cam channel.
I’ve been following Larry since we was shooting for all of the tuner magazines. Well before he was working for hagerty. These guys have broght on some of the best hosts though. If I’m not mistaken, they even have Matt Farrah from the smoking tire working with them.
Dino and Larry go back at least 10 years too
@@EmoDKTsuchiya speedhunter days
@@kawag2780 Yea I recently followed his channel too, such great stuff.. I say wow at least 3 times every video.
The way the wheels line up with the fenders, and the craftsmanship in body panels, interior and engine bay... it's Japanese perfection!
Not to mention that there aren't any unnecessary sculpting lines or ridiculously outrageous design features on these cars. Such a bold contrast against today's cars.
@@TheReapersSon Exactly, just a purposeful uncluttered design. Definitely does the clean lines and curves of the R33 justice!
Seeing those engines just fills up my heart 💜

Amazing, how incredibly clean is everything, no car comes from the factory that clean, insane.
my god, those gauges look surreal how clean and well they pop
I remember seeing the video of Tsuchiya-San and Orido-San driving the Mine’s R34 and the Big Fat Torque Monster Supra in junior high back in the early 2000’s. Seeing the RPM’s in the R34 shoot up was absolutely bonkers.
It felt like yesterday when I watched that same video.
Good times
It's on youtube
That gtr was wild
I have that dvd still a good old classic yes the Mines cars are very responsive.
Watching the Best Motoring videos back in the day. Glad to see they are still thriving, and still doing amazing builds.
The fact Mine's is still doing this up to this day just shows how legendary as well as iconic this brand is in car culture.

Gran Tursimo raised so many of us Millennial car guys. Now it's being brought to life with the stories and videography. I'm grateful
The 90s R33 Skyline had such a great variety of tuned versions from tuners. Glad to see one of them documented.
Another outstanding video covering a car that is hard to imagine without driving it. Great job, Larry.

I absolutely love a white R33 with black wheels. Such a beautiful and simple shape.

So nice to see these getting built still.
