    take your car rip out everything unnecessary, put in roll cage add crazy horsepower and then drive it through some trees and bushes maybe roll it a couple times, bam you got a rally car.

    This was so long for no discernible reason. Speed up the process and hit the key points and edit out the rest. To get your car ready to rally your going to need X,Y,Z. To install X strip car and do this this and this. Then move on and install Y before finishing off with Z. Put some video together of each step and round off the video with onscreen bullet points of the steps in the build process.

      this video is as much educational as entertaining and everything said will have some involvement in rally, and people that are actually interested getting into rally will enjoy this and give them insight on the motor sport. People that watch this might actually compete in rally so the video is very useful.

      scooked films I stand by what i said. The video was poorly structured which led to alot of the same point being repeated over and over. How many times did they mention say the roll cage. I am interested in doing rallying one day hence why I am on this video but it was too long for me to take away anything seriously useful because all of the useful information is buried under layers and layers of fluff content. Had they had a structure i.e start with external body mods working from front to back then moved inside the car, it would be easy to follow and you can easily jump back to parts where you need a refresher, but as it stands this video was just all over the place so they never swiftly moved forward to the next point when 1 was covered. Would not call that educational or entertaining, but your welcome to

      They stressed the roll cage cause it'll save your life in a roll over or a major crash which happens in rallying. I'd rather have someone stress the same point 4 or 5 times than briefly talk about it for 30 seconds.

    • @torque2802
      @torque2802 9 років тому +7

      dakota wedin You don't seem to understand my criticism. I am criticizing the structure of the video, not it's content. Saying the roll cage is important is fine, however because of the videos poor structure and editing it led to the same points of the roll cage being repeated and the video itself lacking an overall flow. There is no need to stress the same point several times if the topic is explained well and the information properly structured. If you want to know why the roll cage is important you could just rewind back to that point in the video.

    Class A 4G welder here...I agree to clean the material and use proper technique when welding.. the metal should be prepared by cleaning the area that is to be welded also check your filaments for proper storage. .avoid moisture oils etc.. use proper amps voltage wire speed etc.. The welds should be stronger than the material being welded together when complete.

    Awesome how to, thanks. I was just wondering if you can have a rally car with roll cage and harness, and all other minimum safety requirements, and still have it street legal, like driving in the city or to the shops. I am sorry if you guys have already explained, but a reminder and some extra info would be great. Thanks.

    • @HerrTiem
      @HerrTiem 10 років тому +2

      not sure if you've got this question answered or not yet but yes. rally cars need to be street legal anyway so you can make a rally car and drive it on the road. I wouldn't recommend it because it's loud and annoying inside the car

    I having been thinking about buying and building a Fiesta 1L Ecoboost into a Rally car...even in race trim the thing would be lucky to make 170hp(125hp stock)...I hope Rally America will make an exception to the "no turbo" rule and allow the little 1L three cylinder to have it's glory in the dirt :D It's a way better package than the old 1.6L Fiesta engine.

    I laugh when I see hater comments on Leo and Matt, but most of all Mike and JF. At your next day at work go tell the guy who owns the company you work for that you think they stink, being as Mike and JF kinda sorta are the reason /Drive exists and people like Matt and Leo give it authentic quality. These are real car guys doing shows about cars and we get to enjoy it for free.
    Matt melts tires for a living but he goes and buys to fully restore a stock DeLorean. And the Ferrari/Porsche loving Brit drools over a big engined Dodge from around 1970. Real car guys.
    Compare the authenticity of /Drive to Jay Leno's Garage clips with video editing quality better than all the big names in car journalism. And we get it free.
    Maybe for Christmas all I want is for the haters to whine to themselves and leave the comments to constructive statements.

    I love DRIVE channel, and wait everyday for new videos - This one is somewhat of a lesser quality one. I've been watching till 09:39, and in these 10 minutes all that has been said is : "You need a roll cage, seats, seat-belts and a fire extinguisher."
    Questions are being asked multiple times where the subjects give all the information multiple times as a result, making this video really boring.

    Ok so i have a question purely from just curiosity of rumors. The main question i have is i have heard that there will be someone that enters a rally race with a completely stock car ( besides the minimum safety requirements ) but will have a very high end suspension setup. after they inspect the car and see the stage level of the suspension they have to put the driver into basically in a pro class just because of what kinda of setup the driver has for the car.
    So i guess to sum up my question in other words does choice of coilover/suspension components really effect that much which class youll be entered in ?
    Id imagine if you have a setup like the rumor i just told to you and were placed in a pro class only because of your suspension you would have a hard time keeping up with the high hp guys with fully built cars.

    • @BrokenMotorsports
      @BrokenMotorsports 11 років тому +5

      NO that is not true at all. Suspension is "open" in every class. It does not determine you to be a pro or not. It is simply a rule meaning that you can run whatever your wallet can afford. It does not dictate what class you are in. The drivetrain setup mostly determines that.

    • @CarsnStuff
      @CarsnStuff 11 років тому

      ok, ive heard external res shocks forces you to be pushed into a higher class because of its dampening capabilities compared to normal coil overs.

      That aint as easy a car to find as one might think. If we want to talk rwd, I would look at a stripped lincoln mark VIII, a mazda mx5, or maybe a 90's 3 series. The oly real AWD option is a 90's subaru (insert name here).
      If we were talking le mons, none of these will do, they are all to expensive. After looking over Craigslist, all I could find that was in working condition was pick up trucks and 90's FWD fords and hondas.

    I don't understand why they choose to keep the speakers in and just paint over them. It would only be about 3-5 pound removed but still every bit help so why leave them in?

    I'm guessing the NASA and RallyAmerica and whatever other sanctioning body have updated the CAD design for the cage? Is there a link to the current design regulation? A link to current CAD drawings? Maybe more tech info on what is really needed for a DIY knucklehead like me, (tube material, size, attachment points, ect...) good show fellas.

    those welds are fucking gross, it looks like shit MIG welds, not clean TIG welds like a race cage should be. If you're gonna stake your life on something it should be done to a really high standard, I wouldnt put my life on those welds.

      i agree, and roll cage should be a bit simpler, and not directly welded to the car in the lower points cuz could cut the thin layer. and they should reinforce the 4 towers. So this is amateur job, Ed China do it much better and he actually submited it to a real inspector and at least talked about the extinguisher security

    so im new so no stupid comments but could you use a 2 seat car in rally america?

    • @Konformation07
      @Konformation07 10 років тому

      You mean like a roadster? I don't think so as they are convertibles. In general all rally cars are two seaters as they are gutted and emptied and only two seats are put in for the driver and co driver. Refer to the Rally America regulations.
