      Time for a new therapist. I had a therapist that didn’t really teach me how to fix any of my problems, she kinda talked about herself most of the time. I had really bad anxiety, and talking to her helped me feel better. But it didn’t last long, the anxiety retuned, and now I’m looking for a psychologist, someone that can really help me reframe, or help me with actual techniques

    I like to think about these videos as a way to go back to the center of yourself. The world takes us from the healthy center of us each day, and so I come back to things like photos, images, music, and these videos to take me back to my balanced center of myself. I will probably need these videos for the rest of my life, because the world around me will always take away from my center, and these videos will always help me to go back to my center. I am thankful to have the things that are working.

    Not about just changing the way you think in this moment but restructuring and developing a new and less negative way of thinking altogether
    - this was a perfect way to explain it. Because I found myself fighting to only change in the moment but not fully preparing for how to respond ahead of time and consistently apply it

    THank you SOOOOO much for organizing this information like this. I've been having some thoughts that I KNOW are cognitive distortions but have still been getting the best of me. Watching this has created a huge shift.

    Great help for addressing this all again.
    My Core beliefs need work at regular intervals throughout my lifetime to be able to make good choices.
    Seems like the work makes things better alongside work on the distortions.
    Life brings up these distortions for me, again, over time. For me this work is so valuable in addressing these feelings, at the source, by changing the thoughts that arise, and identifying the distortions and their roots.

    So I am an overthinker and i have never had this thought before and I don’t normally think this way but when I was on Tiktok I say a POV and I put myself in the POV and from that I have been feeling not myself , constantly engaging with my thoughts and the worse thing is the thought is not true but because I didn’t ignore the thought to begin with it is still in my mind so I am learning how to get rid of it and improve my mind and how I think.

    Hi, does cognitive restructuring contradict radical acceptance? I suffer from severe hypochondria or health anxiety, which technique would me more helpful to me? Thank you

    • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  3 роки тому +7

      Thanks for your question. Neither approach is more helpful than the other, it's just a matter of what works best for you. I'd recommend using both: trying to accept your thoughts and just let them go, but if they persist, then doing some cognitive restructuring, while continuing to try to accept whatever thoughts you're having. Acceptance and change don't contradict each other and they often go hand in hand.
      Sometimes with anxiety, it's difficult to do cognitive restructuring without ending up stuck in your head with even more anxious thoughts, at which point continuing to try cognitive restructuring is counterproductive. Then it's best to just distract yourself for a while to try to get out of your head. Whether you're trying to accept your thoughts or do cognitive restructuring, the key is to do it as soon as you notice you’re having the anxiety. The longer you wait, the more difficult both acceptance and cognitive restructuring become.
      If you haven't already seen them, I have a few videos about accepting/letting go of thoughts you might find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/CpdVMs818AE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Em_MblRfylo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/luvo2K43NOc/v-deo.html

    I suffer from a severe fear of my girlfriend cheating on me. I have never known this to be a fact yet my mind reads into scenarios as evidence of her cheating and it keeps me in my mind nearly 24/7. I have tried DBT with therapists and watching your videos for over a year but I feel it is getting worse. Is there any advice you can give me. She is very patient with me and is sticking it out but I feel that my worries will ultimately end the relationship and I want to acquire the skills before it gets to that point.

    • @tnt01
      @tnt01 2 роки тому +2

      work on your self-esteem, the real issue, not your girlfriend, it can be done. And let's say worse case scenario, she does cheat. life goes on. you will survive. but love is trusting her and being confident in yourself.

      Hello. I read your comment and i am sorry for your situation. Maybe you suffer from something which is called relationship ocd. This is a subtype of ocd. The best way to cope with ocd including this subtype is a cbt method which is called ERP (Εxposure and response prevention). I am not trying at all to make a diagonsis. But i myself suffer from ocd and these sticky thoughts that you mentioned reminds me of my ocd, so you maybe have the same. I just wanted to inform you about this so maybe you can check it out. I hope you find the solution you want!

    these are long lists for somebody to remember and act on in a negative frame of mind

    • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  4 роки тому +13

      Agreed. When you're in a negative frame of mind It can be hard to remember even one thing on the list. Not all of these questions will be relevant to everyone, but sometimes people keep a list of the ones they find most helpful questions on their phone so that they have them there when they need them.
