    I want a 52mm bore PiP cylinder so bad damnit... ive been following this whole thing for years now... from the thought of you casting a cylinder till now has been an epic journey. Hope you get to mass produce them one day! 🙏 keep it up!

    Oh, if you want some kind of easy and safe load, use a large air-fan. Not a lot of mass (assuming it's not too large) and dispersing the energy without generating lots of heat.

      You don't need it to be silent or efficient, or even directional like a proper fan. Tripling the speed (and getting more than nine times the resistance) is a good thing. And you also don't need a motor. Just enough circular air-resistance at a given RPM around a fixed axis.
      Think straight paddles on a disc, blowing unfocused air 360 degrees around.

      Engine masters did a video on that, try maybe 10 pounds and the size of an 18" radiator fan.
      Better yet, you could put a louver in front of it and actually control how much load you apply very easily and quickly with a little servo driven by a microcontroller.

    if you’re tuning that mopeds engine, could you do a detailed series on how to calculate port timing, design a resonance chamber, what peak rpm to go for, how to choose a carb etc?
    you’re literally the only guy who can bring this knowledge to enough people.
    I’ve built my very first engine over the past few weeks and i must say it’s extremely hard to find out where to start and which formulas to use. Everyone’s using different ones, they all use different terms for the same things and they all start at completely different points, so its really hard to wrap your heac around it all.
    Would be an easy thing i guess, just taking and a few drawings and examples.

    Try making a cogged inside idler so the belt runs more smoothly over it. Increase the diameter of both idlers to take up the slack and slow down the bearing speed

      Exactly what I was going to say 👍🏼. A belt is only made to lean at a flat roller on the flat side of the belt.

    I'd reccomend using a freewheel off of a bicycle, for your load. That way if the engine shuts off, the freewheel will prevent drive to the piston.

      @@mrsnezbit2219 well its strong enough to take the tourqe of your legs, he would have to rig a pully in replace of the sprocket. He could use a cassette hub instead. But my point is to use a bicycle hub and wheel that way he can apply a brake load through the bicycle brakes

      @Alfred Wedmore it doesn't need to be geared for speed tho... I build moterized bikes, I gear the engine to the rear cassette and it hasn't gave me any problems over 2 years of continuous riding

      They make 1 way cassettes and 1 way bearings in so many sizes... if a bicycle one is too pinner step up a size...

    In 1996 I raced the rc car on-road world championship, but the we before Mike Swager was practicing is 1/8th nitro rc on-road car with Ron Perris (rip) built/tuned 3.5cc (0.21ci) 7 port motor running on nitro. It was screening, I asked Ron what's the rpm, just north of 60,000 and a hair over 4hp on the dyno. Up converting, your 50cc should make 95hp to be on the same hp/ci, that's a tall order for only 50cc. It does sounds fkn awesome.

    Syntrifical clutch sorry if spelling not right , out of a 250cc scooter , dyno will keep spinning freely if you need to cut engine .
    Loads of torque up top where you need it awesome.
    Secondary carb trying to pick issue , maybe only happy at 80% rpm or wide open throttle.
    Awesome work mate loven it your officially a 2stroke engineer hats off to you.

    That sounds really good! On your higher rpm "blips" it sounds like it's well over 10K rpm and wants to pull even harder. Fantastic stuff you have going on there!

    I was taught to use ATF and toilet paper for the cleaning of a cylinder after honing. It does not leave lint or other things behind. It is also obviosly very absorbant as well. Keep up the good work!!!

    Has anyone tried to build a double liner in one cylinder, one stationary and one rotary, by turning it would open and close the channels, maximum compression would be achieved, the opening and closing of the channels would be only a few millimeters from the piston, maybe the rotary liner could be connected by gearing to the crank shaft your work is incredible i look at it like a calf at a new gate it's very inspiring keep it up

    Something totally different you can use a compact powerful 2 stroke engine for is a long range fpv drone. Doesn't necessarily need to be a quad style drone, I was more thinking of a plane drone(if you want to get fancy it would have vtol capabilities). Engine either powers propeller(s) directly or it powers a generator and the propeller(s) are electric.

    A tip, for porting etc… cut some thin wall pvc pipe or cardboard tube of a similar bore as the cylinder cut a couple of different shape windows in it and use it as a mask for grinding ports, make it long and you can simply slide the tube up and down or twist it to align ports/ edges etc protect the wall, as you will be fully aware die grinders like to jump and can damage your nicely honed bores 👍

    I think a sprag bearing would be a better idea for the dyno drive unless you actually want it to back drive. You could maybe use the starter motor drive assembly from a large capacity bike.

      Sprag bearing/clutch is a great idea, not sure about using a starter motor, though. Most use a helical gear, or bendix.

      @@panikrev175 The starters on big capacity bike engines have permanently engaged gears and use a sprag bearing to prevent the engine back driving the starter. No bendix or pre-engaged mechanisms.

    The right side idler should be "geared" so that the belt teeth wouldnt wear out from it. The left side one is good because the belt is flat from the outside.

      And have you tought of making a TPI type fuel injection system so you could control the airfuel ratio better than a carb?

    Just a quick thought. While running the PIP, I think I can see fuel starvation on one of the fuel lines. There are bubbles forming in the left line. I think vacuum from the secondary carb is starving the primary. Watch carefully....how much is the secondary involved when at top rev? I think it will also influence the amount of fuel the secondary is getting due to vacuum loss through primary fuel line, etc...Two separate lines, easy fix.
    Really enjoy what you are doing and am grateful for the opportunity to learn.

    With forced induction you usually want more ring gap but that exhaust port is so big you don't dare gap it to much.... this is going to be fun

    4:50 The twin idlers also cause the angle of the pulleys not to change relative to each other, and frankly I thought *that* was the reason you chose those.

    Hei Alex, once again you are doing a great job of promoting two-stroke technique and exploring new paths. I'd like to make three remarks, if I may.
    A: the pulley that touches the smooth back of the teethed belt is OK, but for the other pulley, that faces the belt teeth, you might want to use the biggest diameter that you can accommodate. It will run smoother that way.
    B: a 0.66 mm squish gap is not only safe; it's more than safe.
    With a crankshaft in good condition you can narrow the gap down to 1% of the stroke.
    C: a 0.15mm ring gap may give a nice compression when you turn the engine over by hand, but it is NOT safe. Use at least 0.5% of the bore diameter.

      A: Yes, Many have pointed out the same thing, I'm deleting the second roller, or going with a toothed one.
      B: I know, I know. Should've said "can't be bothered with taking 0.25mm off just yet"😁
      C: Not sure where I got 0.15mm from, what I've been running in several engines. Now I'm nervous, need to open up that gap.

    Greetings for the US, I’ve subscribed and watched all of your videos and subscribed and enjoy them as I have been experimenting with 2 stroke engine theory since 1989 and built an EFI system in 1993 which made a huge difference on jet ski engines that are direct drive and the EFI allowed me to move the Power Band way up top like a 125cc dirt bike but with a 2 fixed Venturi (pumper carb as you call it) carbs the engine would bog and in jet ski racing without it, huge difference! getting off the starting line was a must but you have too port the engine, stuff the cases by stroking and high secondary compression which resulted in a lot of bottom but suffered top end speed as the engine would not rev out. The EFI I built allowed me too over port and have instant low end power. Many failures until getting the injector at optimum angle too the case Reed engine, if you would like my findings which would avoid the “ advance tool chasing” 😆 feel free to ask and they are yours.
    I have a couple of questions if you you have time too answer and would appreciate it very much…
    #1 I love your drill press, could you share the make and model?
    #2 I fear you will end up with a very hi BMEP and I have found that billet cranks and rods help with out building a grenade
    #3 I believe anything over 1.6 primary compression ratio tends to overload convention crank seal contact with the crank, possibly a mechanical seal may help with primary compression loss?

      @@guidoheeling1179 It's a 1978 N. I'm fully conditioning it. I wanted to keep it looking authentic but faster so I stuck with 50cc and a 6 port cylinder. Fingers crossed for 45mph lol

    I love Jawas! They are LEGENDARY when it comes to speedway racing, pretty much all anyone runs around here anymore. They made some pretty cool twin cylinder street bikes back in the day too.
    You should look into o ring-ing your block and head so you never have to worry about gaskets again. I figure if it works for a Detroit 2 stroke, it should work for you too.

    I don't know exactly how much of an inconvenience that external boom mic is to work with, but it does sound a million times better than your current setup.
    Not saying you should bring it back, that choice is entirely up to you of course. Just thought I'd mention it.
    I'll keep watching regardless, just as I have for some years now.

    Holly Shit. That engine has some power going there.
    Tip. You can get "cheap" Ducati slipper clutch for the anti seize mechanism. They are great as they only allow power transfer in one direction and you slip can be adjusted with springs. They are also used in Supermoto bikes.
    Always great stuff. Looking forward for the next video.

    I know and old mechanic, that used to tell me to put a quart of ATF in the engine, last time it needs a quart before changing the oil. I guess there are detergent quality's in ATF, that help to clean running engines, safely.

    Put a gilmer pulley on the idler on the toothed side of the belt and the extra diameter will take up the slack + the belt will run smoother.

    You're putting the 4 cylinder rc engine on a moped....I wish you didn't live so far away lol. R/C was what got me into engines at age 5. It was only 0.8cc, but I was hooked. Have you seen the video of a guy who put an ASP 400 radial 5 cylinder on a moped? That thing sounds amazing. It's 65cc 4 stroke; getting that 14cc to move a person won't be easy. It's going to have a really low top speed with the gearing it will need...but it'll sound awesome!

    You know with the 100% of bore piston I honestly think having like 3 pins to stop the ring from the hitting the port might work better because right now I feel like that one pin is stopping the middle from hitting it but not the edges, also I was thinking what if it's not exactly 100% of bore what if there's still a bridge just not 100% across the port like maybe a small gap in the middle

    Great video as always. Simple idea instead of a clutch between the motor and dyno, maybe a polyurethane or rubber attached between the 2 like an old school steering coupler. That can break away in a lock up situation?

    4:48 first time i see the teeth side of a belt running around a idler bearing/pulley. Wouldnt this damage the belt? Probably with the right size belt you just need one idler/tensioner bearing.

      That was my thought too, under light load and RPM it might not be a problem but with the RPM's this thing will be spinning I think it will shred the belt teeth in minutes.

      It will damage the belt and it hurts my soul a little to see it set up this way. Ideally he would use timing pulley on a bearing as an idler.

    If you haven't mounted that clutch yet, a good source of fairly stout (don't know if it would be stout enough, but just an idea) one way clutches are newer alternator pulleys, mostly European stuff. They're available separately from the alternator these days, and have very nice one way bearings.

    That's quite a bit of work to move two chairs 10 centimeters to the left.
    Atleast it's the coolest way I've ever seen, apart from using explosives... which this may still turn out to be at some point.

    Hell yeah that's a torq monster that's gonna be a fun ride with the right gearing. My 72cc airsal with a circuit pipe and 21mm flatslide carb has nothing on that geez I gotta lot to learn

    For the dyno clutch I'd look into a 1-way sprag clutch or other overrunning clutch, it can automatically disengage if the torque coming from the brake inertia is greater than the torque (or lack of) coming from the engine.

    Im pretty stoked that you bought Jawa Babetta 210, we have 2 of them in my family. Its very enjoyable for riding around. 2speed automatic 50 cc and has 1,75 kw. It was made in early 80s up to early 90s. Its Czechoslovakian (Slovakia, my country) moped (this country as Yuhoslavia does not exist anymore,it splitted into Czechia and Slovakia). Im curious where did you find it. Iknow that some mopeds were exported for foreign market but I dont know anything about export to Finland.

      I used to, ehm, borrow a Jawa 50cc from my uncle. Mostly when he was not looking.
      Side note: initial J is not using English pronunciation. It's not like Java the programming language or java as in coffee.

    i understand intake length for resonance, but unsupported spigot mounted carbs can foam up the float bowl if too long.
    temporary i understand, but don't want you chasing too many side issues. thanks for the update videos.
    i saw the clamp holding the beam loosen from vibration in earlier videos, and understand your reluctance to make a permanent mount until you have all the pieces for the dyno. i know it's distracting to you to have to keep checking everything instead of the one thing you need to be focused on. results for "us" can wait.

    Opposed piston engines!
    More complicated, but it literally cuts the effective piston-speed in half and is easier to get good scavenging with (By offsetting the timing of the two pistons so the ports are covered/uncovered at the optimal time.

      he's shooting for single cylinder, 2 stroke 50cc WR. opposed piston counts as a twin. not saying that you're wrong, vespa made a 125cc prototype that went over 100mph in the early 50's doing just that. 17hp in 1951....
      i can easily imagine that a brute force, twin supercharged opposed piston two stroke would be a land speed monster today.

      @@PwntifexMaximus its one piston with two carburetors ..the primary carb is used on start up to full throttle... then he kicks in the secondary carb full throttle that is mounted on the long intake runner . that is when the engine tries to come off the bench! Lol . I was going to ask if he has tried to dynamically balance the crankshaft by spinning it without the rotating assembly but with a weight box with lead shot inside that all together weighs within one gram of the total weight of the connecting rod and bearings plus the piston , pin, keepers, and the piston ring....then with weight box with the proper amount of lead shot inside clamped and bolted to the rod journal of the fly wheels you spin it up to the maximum RPM that you are tuning for and you will eliminate almost all the inertia produced from improper static balance ...i had this type of balance job done to an old FLH Big twin Harley and it was unbelievably smooth and hardly any vibration ..this is how they do it at Precision balance Company of Indianapolis Indiana where they balance IndyCar engines period but balancing engines is just part of their work they do . A lot of other things are all types of shafts and big balancing of industrial Machinery that's been custom-made
