moultonditcher do you bought your bow in 2004? What kind of bow was it? Was it made of wood or did they start using the carbon material or whatever material they use now?

Broxty I agree with you. I have the Bulldog 440-New for 2019. I think I’m future proof for a while. I have all the suppression gear on it and it’s still shooting 426FPS. Now that’s after installing the airbrakes and the SDS kit with the exception of string stars. I just recently changed my strings to a bright pink color just to be a little different plus I don’t think deer can see color so it’s not going to ruin my hunts. Lol. I love that I can do just about any maintenance I want on the bow myself. I hated having to go to Bass Pro Shop all the time because I had a Barnett Whitetail Pro STR that had bad strings. The bow shot 400FPS but the strings/cables could not handle it because it kept fraying and busted on me 4 times and had the riser replaced 4 times. I ended up getting custom made strings/cables that costed me $100 and it seemed to have fixed the fraying issues but then the right string stop fell off. I ended up selling the bow after I superglued the string stop on the bow to some poor shmuck on eBay and used the funds to buy the Bulldog 440. I was having a hard time deciding between the 440 or the Assassin 420TD. It was $1799 for the 420 vs $1399 for the 440. My budget was $2000 so getting the 420 was a bit much so I chose the 440 and then I used the rest for accessories like my airbrakes, my SDS, strings, string changers, wax, line and extra bolts. Everything costed me about $1580 taxed. Well within my budget and very happy with my purchases.
The 440 is a beast and it’ll be able to take down every beast minus a rhino. 😂 I don’t think there are many weapons out there that can take down a rhino or a bull but then again, isn’t hunting a rhino illegal? Anyway, I love my 440 and I’m glad I chose to go with it because it came with the Charger EXT, which is a silent crank system. There’s no way I would be able to pull back 300lb draw weight without breaking my back. Maybe someone bigger than me can, but I’m 6’1 180lbs and I can bench over 250lbs so I don’t think I’m a weak man but the 300lbs draw weight is just too much for me. I much rather use the crank which reduces the poundage to 12lbs and once my son reaches 7 years old and can holster the crossbow, I’m going to let him shoot with it. It’s going to stay In the family a long long time so it’s a good thing it comes with a lifetime warranty! You CAN buy quality and my 440 is well worth the price tag. I’ll never have to visit Bass Pro Shops again because of my crossbow. I’ll be able to do all modifications myself and I never have to worry about the string fraying or breaking because if it does, I already have backup strings for it. Excalibur is king and the best crossbow money can buy! I would choose an Excalibur over the Tenpoint crossbow that’s reverse draw shooting 470FPS or any Ravin’s or any other high end bows. They don’t come with a lifetime warranty and will not perform the way my Bulldog will.
All other bows will need a shop tech every time the bow goes out of sync or the string stretches which happens to all new strings. It can not be avoided but if you have an Excalibur you don’t need to worry about it because you can do it yourself. Even someone that doesn’t have a high school education could change the strings and raise or lower the brace height.
Excalibur has bows in all price ranges. It depends on what you want and need. Well, it depends on what you want because no one NEEDS a crossbow. They just released the Axe 340 that’s made from the structure of the Micro, it shoots 340FPS, and it only costs $599-699 depending on the colorway/camo pattern that you want. They have a really sick kryptex camo that’s like iced blue and like all Excalibur’s, they have a lifetime warranty. You just can’t get more for your money! There’s bows-older bows on Amazon for cheaper but they’ll be obsolete in a few more years or shoot less FPS.

@@iHustleLXXXI I love my crossbow. Had an issue with my string constantly stretching so I got a custom red and black one made. Also my tact zone scope became loose and I'm in the midst of contacting Excalibur to see about warranty. Love this bow though.

I know this video is many years old, i just bought the assassin extreme last deer season, the string is already against the reds, is it the same way to tighten the string if it has a crank system on it?

  • @blandishblaze

Won’t the twist on the string work it’s way down? Or make the string itself rotate a bit during firing? Just wondering. Great idea though! One of the best features on my GRZ2 or any Excalibur is the option of changing strings on the fly. Good video brother! Hunt on! Cheers from northern Ontario Canada!

No. The twist you put in stays. It may stretch more after that, so put more twists in then.

Would it be at all possible to help me out....I'm 44 and buying my 1st crossbow... I like the Simplicity of Excalibur recurve crossbows at the same time I really like the new assassin 420 take down my only problem is.... the new features that look amazing are now more moving parts!.....will the takedown hold up over the years and the in stock crank....will it fail? Will it hold up? So if you weren't paying yourself,do you take the new assassin 420 or do you take the micro 355 with no new moving parts. My last question is this....are your 30inch wide limbs a bother and would you much rather today's micro 25inch limbs.i have the money but stuck between the micro 355 and new assassin 420. PLEASE ANY OPINIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

eddiekytia I don’t know if you’ll get this in time since this was 6 months ago. I had the same dilemma but my choice was either the Bulldog 440 or the Assassin 420TD. The question you need to ask yourself is if you need the TD feature and how often will you use it. I was attracted to the TD feature but I shortly realized that I did not need the TD feature. I wanted more FPS rather than the TD feature. Both come with lifetime warranty’s so you shouldn’t have to worry about anything breaking. If you choose the Bulldog 440 like I did because I wanted the speed. Even with the 420, your bow will be shooting under 400FPS if you put the SDS kit and the airbrakes on. With the 440 it would only bring it down to 426FPS and that may vary depending on your strings and if they’re fully stretched or not. If you still haven’t bought one yet you are comparing two completely different bows. If you haven’t bought one yet I would suggest that you go with the 440 like I did because unless you travel a lot to hunt then you won’t need the TD feature that much. How many times will you actually take down your bow in a course of 6 months? I shoot my Bulldog 440 a lot because I like target shooting so most of the times my bow is intact rather than apart. If you don’t care about the speed and you still haven’t chosen a bow yet I would say that you should choose either the 340 Axe or the Bulldog 440 because they’re the newest along with the 420TD. If you don’t really take your bow apart and don’t need that feature then the Bulldog 440 is your best bet if you have the budget. If you want to save money and you don’t care about speed then go with the Axe 340, it’ll be more than you’ll need if you’re just going to hunt whitetail deer and hogs. If you’re hunting elk or bigger game then you’ll need something with more power like the Bulldog 440. I hope that answers you question and I hope it’s not too late. Oh and the Bulldog 440 comes with a cranking device since it has a draw weight of 300LBS. You can get the Charger EXT for any type of bow, both Micro and Matrix models so it doesn’t matter. The BD come with the Charger ext with the original package. I hope I caught you in time and you haven’t purchased your bow yet. Again, don’t worry about warranty because all Excalibur’s comes with a lifetime warranty so you can’t go wrong with any Excalibur. It comes down to personal preference and I’m sure you be happy with any choice!

@iHustleLXXXI I have the matrix 380 ( 5 yrs old ) my 380 has so much KE that I think it would shoot thru a VW beatle thru & thru with a fixed blade broadhead. I switched to mechanical due to not having a great blood trail with fixed blade heads. I guess if you want to shoot thru both front shoulders the fixed blade would do it. I was shooting the excalibur 150 gr bolt cutter head.

Have you tried a D loop? I don’t have any issues with the stringer coming undone when I’m changing my strings or when I installed my airbrakes. You had to take the whole bow apart to put the airbrakes on the bow.

You only twist one side (left side?)

And the string should be twisted counter clockwise. It looks like you can see the correct twist direction just by looking at the string strands and 2 or 3 twist should do it.
