Kudos to you for being a very patient person. I was stressing just watching the video waiting for the deer to turn broadside.

    Nice man.
I’ve had many excalibur shots where I was looking through the scope and the deer moved and had to hold that position until it looked away then wait, wait , wait for a good shot but can’t raise the bow back up until the deer puts
    their head down.
Patience is the name of the game with deer hunting.
If there are two bucks but one hangs back for a while before stepping out....wait....because the one in the shadows is almost always the bigger buck.
In my hunting experiences over the years they learn this at a young age when the mama and bigger deer make the young ones work point while the big ones graze.
While stalking (still hunting) one afternoon I came up a knoll right into a nice herd of does and yearlings.
I trained my crossbow on one of the older does as there were 8 to choose from but one of the yearlings was working point and couldn’t quite make me out.
I had arcturus leafy camo on and was standing next to a holley bush.
The yearling kept bobbing its head and stomping then gave up and walked right up to me.....the whole time took minutes and my arm was about to fall off as I was froze in my shooting stance.
If I had my hand on my ka-bar I could have ran it through that yearling it was that close.
Finally it walked back towards the herd about 20 yards away and joined them browsing.
When all their heads were down and no eyes on me I slowly lowered the crossbow and have my arm some much needed rest.
A less experienced hunter probably would have had their heart pounding out of their chest but I’ve learned some calming techniques while hunting and it’s basically confidence and patience and you keep telling yourself to wait for the perfect opportunity and you got this.
After a minute or so of blood flow to my arm I was ready to bend and stretch it but I decided to just re aquire my target and go for it.
There were so many deer there was always one that could have busted my movement so I waited to the point I had to lower my arm again and wait before I could do that .
I was about to die and I need led to bend my arm a few times so I did slowly and deliberately while watching them.m and holding the bow with my other hand.
Finally I got back on target at another doe with a perfect broadside heart shot, thwack/swhack with a 2” swhacker mechanical broadhead.
The do turned inside out and ran down the hill....I heard her crash while all the other deer scattered in all different directions.
I immediately reloaded and got ready for any stragglers.
There are three stragglers that came back around and were wondering why all their friends scattered .
Again they couldn’t make me out but they were too shaken up and a big doe started blowing and they trotted off.
Big mama doe that I shot made it 75 yards before piling up.
    She was a big girl.
Lotsa good eating from that harvest.

Very cool story. I love a good hunting story. I can almost see what you're describing. Patience is one thing that took me years to aquire. I think back on all the lost opportunities on trophy bucks because I couldn't hold the shot. Ir when it was time to take the shot I was shaking so bad I'd miss. I can hold em up there now. There's several breathing techniques I use and it makes all the difference in the world. Thanks again and shoot straight!

      Yeah man you too.
My biggest regret is archery hunting during rifle season.
I love the stealthiness of the crossbow so
much I often choose it over the rifle.
I’ll never do that again because I was on a WMA when a big trophy buck came up a ridge path I was watching that was on a very steep mountain side.
It responded to my doe clear and was looking and sniffing hard.
It was a super windy yet sunny day, cold.
This deer paralleled me up the path, turned about 60 yards in front of me and I watched it for 15 minutes as it would only move when the wind blew.
When the wind stopped it would lay down next to the biggest cover or stop with its vitals behind a tree.
Wind would pick up he would move.
Seemed like this went on forever.
I wasn’t comfortable taking the shot at that distance with the crossbow so I didn’t attempt it.
That deer had a stark white rack with the fattest main beams I’ve ever seen.
It was a perfect 10 point and looked to be at least 7.5 yrs old.
If I had a rifle Ida had some pretty good bragging rights on that one.
      Live and learn I guess.

In states where baiting in legal you often are backed into a corner. If you don't bait the deer will be off eating corn at the stand of someone who does.

What size bolt was you shooting? Also what was your total weight (bolt and broadhead and if you had added weight to the bolt what weight was it) I had the Excalibur banshee. Got rid of it bc I couldn't get a pass Thur.. arrow was going in but not coming out the other side and notice you got a pass through to just wanted to no your bolt weight, broadhead weigth and if you added weight inserts

    • @mccale58
      @mccale58 3 роки тому +1

345 grn bolt tipped with 150 grn broadhead. 150's are a must with that short of bolt. You have to have that forward weight before the excaibur shines. I conagraphed the bow last year with the same weight and a flemish string and it was coming out of there at 332 fps. Awesome kinetic energy(right around 65k) that breaking ribs in both sides and burying the bolt in the ground 4 inches. Fine line between speed and momentum. Momentum trumps speed everytime in my book. Shooting at a deer at a normal yardage, say less than 30, no deer in the world can jump or duck an excaibur micro 335. Say 27 yards = 81 ft. Takes .3 seconds/300 mls. before the boiler room is shutting down for good. Shoot straight this year!!

    • @neabowhunters8107
      @neabowhunters8107 2 роки тому

I have had nothing but successful hunts with my banshee. 7 deer in 2 years all have been pass through and buried in the dirt behind the deer. Oh and with 2in mechanical heads. 32 yards and in that 308 short banshee has 0 issues. Arrow was just 400 grains.

Damn. You had to hold your bow up a long time. Good thing you have a micro. I doubt you’d be able to hold that for as long as you did with a Matrix Bulldog which brings me to this question:
For sale: Brand New Excalibur Assassin 360 with an Airbrakes, SDS kit, ex-sling(camo) and a hard case. This bow has never been shot, being sold for a very reasonable price. It has been chronoed at 360FPS with all the silencing gear all installed. The kit that silenced the bow retails for over $100 and the case alone is priceless. Only comes with the Assassin 360 Real Tree Xtra. Are you looking for your next bow? Do you want this bow to save you money on the long run and/or last you a lifetime? Do you travel frequently to go hunting? Do you want to be able to repair your bow while you’re on your hunt? Do you want to deal with excellent people that aren’t just going to pass you off to the next person and resolve your concern the first time? Are you a current Excalibur user but want to upgrade to something nicer? If so, please email me because at the price I’m asking for it will not be on sale for long. I will personally guarantee you that this will be the one and only bow you’ll need to buy! It’s fast enough for you never to have to buy another bow. The bow retails for $1599 but I’m willing to sell it hundreds cheaper. Just PM me or e-mail me at daReviewer81gmail.com. I’m only asking $1199 with the accessories installed and a hard plastic case for the bow in original packaging and boxes. Thanks in advance!

This deer should have walked and matured? For what? Tougher meat? Or bigger horns? You hunt how you want to and others the way they want. I've killed big bucks and small what ever comes my way when I'm in my stand and have a tag for its going down. I'm out there to hunt and enjoy and have some wild meat. Everyone hunts how they want. Very simple
