My anxiety isn't about other people, its about it crashing or flying away

Good to know it's not just me being silly. Others feel the same when first getting into operating drones.

Excellent video and great advices! About the windy conditions I always make sure to fly against wind direction at first, so I will be going downwind on the way back home

Thank you for all this clarification and advice. I use a fold out landing pad. It is heavy enough not to let the wind play with it. It provides clear contrast for the precision landing process. It stops loose dirt and debris being blown up onto the camera and motors.

Love this video. Always wondered what the Geo Zone thing was never even thought about it until seeing this 😅
One thing I will say about flying over water vs land is that fetching a drone from water is a lot more difficult than an open field lol.
Also, if you're planning on flying closer/lower to water, just be mindful of waves etc. - the sensors may not be quick enough to get you out of trouble.

Great video, and fantastic timing! Almost all the issues you mentioned in the piece were on the money, especially the flying over water, even though I have the DJI insurance. Your videos are always informative, amusing, and I love your down to earth delivery ( no pun intended)

Why would you even care what other people think about how loud the drone sound. you're there for safety purposes. This is why you do drone inspection before you fly your drone so that you know the proper condition of your drone. I have never worried about what people think of the sound of the drone. When I'm flying around people I make sure I am flying in areas where the drone cannot come out of the sky and crash into anyone. After living in America for 45 years I already understand you can't please everyone. So with that being said I'm going to be focusing on my mission to fly my drone. I always keep my drone in VLOS.

I moved to New Zealand and jeez there is so many top places to fly and going from east to west coast takes a few hours drive. I lost a Mavic in the Cook Strait but was my fault. Replaced with MAV 2 zoom and love it. Your vid has given me lots more confidence as everyone of your scenarios I’ve experienced. I’m going to binge all your vids now cause I really miss an Oz accent! Hooroo! 😊

I want to fly a drone that drops books like "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels and "The Power of Now" by Tolle on everyone's yard. That would be my dream.

To add to the flying over water thing. It is no different from flying over anywhere else where it would be difficult or impossible to find the drone again. Other examples of places where the drone would be unrecoverable are: over forests, over rivers, far away from you, over difficult terrain, etc. For me the first place like this I flew was over a forest with an FPV drone, if it had crashed then I wouldn't have been able to find it.
The most important thing for flying in these unrecoverable locations is to make sure you are confident with the drone, make sure you have a good amount of time practicing and then when you go to fly don't go straight over the unrecoverable place, fly about yourself first, fly up high, get a feel for the wind and if there is anything wrong with the drone, make sure it all works fine, then you are fine to fly over somewhere where you wouldn't be able to get it back.
Nerves are the biggest issue, being nervous will make you more likely to make mistakes, you need to trust your drone and its abilities, forget about the cost, forget about how embarrasing it would be to crash and just go for it and things will be less likely to go wrong.

Just get GPS ... Why would you lose it in a forest?

    • @Talon17
      @Talon17 Місяць тому

@Bollibompa exactly, all DJI drones have GPS and report the drones last known location that leads you right to the drone using your controller or phone.

    Hi Amy. Loved the video.
I hate to ask a question not related to this video but you are one of the few out there that still fly the DJI FPV regularly. Did you upgrade to the latest firmware? Someone just posted on DJIs forum that it broke their drone.

Absolute gold video Amy. I’ve been held back for 3 months with anxiety about Karen’s since getting my drone and getting really shitty footage with my m4p. You’ve definitely given us a bit of ammo for flying with a bit of confidence. Will have a look at the course you offer. Cheers ledge 🤙

Nice video! I have 300+ hours flight time, and am still nervous every time I take a drone out. Have to say though I don't really agree with the Karen thing. For people who don't understand what we do, having a drone flying around is pretty creepy and kind of invasive. In my experience the best thing to do is be friendly, show them the image on the screen and try to explain what you're filming. If they're really bothered by it, just move on. There's always another spot you can launch from which won't bother people. Anyway thanks for raising a subject people don't talk about much when it comes to flying!
