Some of the functions since Blender 4.3 have changed. - Lasso delete only works on entire strokes - the boundary strokes in fill tool doesnt exist anymore :( - the lasso fill in the fill tool on a tablet has opacity which makes it un-useable - rotate function only works through the addon: Grease Pencil Tools. Download at the new Addon webside Blender extensions: extensions.blender.org/search/?q=grease+pencil
I just watched this and the 10 hidden keyboard shortcuts-video and i gotta say these are the best tutorials for learning 2D in Blender. We need more! Great job!
Total noob with GP. Nice vid but one bumble. You show how to rotate canvas before you indicate turning on the 'object: grease pencil tools' add on. The rotate canvas will not work until addon is checked. Just a slight continuity hiccup.
your gumroad tutorial is nicely done i've dabbled in grease pencil a fair bit but still learned enough to feel i got value many thanks and good luck with your channel (subbed)
Thanks for making stuff like that, really useful features! Pls continue to make a video like this, so glad that there is a UA-camr who provide a Blender Grease Pencils tools
Any pen tablet is fine. I started on a wacom bamboo back in 2010. Get a used one somewhere to safe even more money. The next level up would be a wacom intuos (or aquivilant of other brands such as huion) I recommend a size m which is just about dina4. Not too big, not too small! If drawing somewhere else with your hand and seeing the line only on the monitor feels weird, I would recommend getting a huion kamvas 13 pro. Also used if possible. I have a video about drawing tablet stands, that might be interesting to watch as well.. hope it helps 🙏
I would recommend a Grafik tablet instead of a mouse, but it doesn't need to be a screen display. A wacom bamboo or wacom intous style tablet is great as well
I downloaded and added the Storytools Add-On in preferences (Blender 3.4.1) and the box is checked so it appears active but there is no drop down menu and it doesn't show up in the tools sidebar like the Grease Pencil Add-On tab. Any ideas?
Ok, so how to get the different menus? I opened the animation, have a white screen but no drawing tools and have no idea how get them. Is there something in preferences I need to add? I have no idea.
Strange. It should all be there at the start.but try the top bar, there should be a menu, "view" - toggle on the first 4 points in that menu. "Toolbar" "sidebar" "toolsettings" and "adjust last operation". When opening a new file make sure to choose a "2d animation" file. Hope that works for you 🙏
Do you know the best way to be able to draw smooth lines? I only know that you can make the line get dragged behind the pen but it's a lot different from the way smooth lines work in Photoshop as it doesn't end where your pen is but needs to be dragged to the end instead. Is there another way?
Thank you for the great videos! What beginner course would you recommend to start 2D animating (not just drawing) in Blender? There's many videos on YT, incuding yours, there's a bunch of classes on Udemy, but none focused on animation - it's usually only character creation or background building.
At home and when traveling, I use a Huion 13 Kamwas Pro and at work an older Wacom Cintique 22 hd - from time to time i also use a Wacom Intuos 2d generation i think
Hello. if I have version 3.5, do I need to change it to Blender 3.6 ? I'm just learning the program, I would like more information on how to use it for beginners Thanks for sharing
Hi thanks for asking. You can stay on 3.5! 3.6 didnt bring many essenial upgrades. And all that I am showing in this video would work in 3.5 as well. Generaly speacking I can recommend upgrading though.
Hi! Thank you for the great tutorial! What kind of tablet are you using for drawing? I have one without the display and I find it kinda tough to get used to. Do you find that you prefer using a tablet with a drawing display? Just curious as to your thoughts!
thanks Nicole! I use a huion Kamvas pro 13 inch. It is super small and great for travelling. For a more perminent setup I would recommend at least a 16 inch tablet though. And I personally used a wacom bamboo for years and that was fine. but Ever since I have a cintiq at work and a huion at home I couldnt do withouth! It is one step closer to paper.
@@2dToolbox awesome thank you for the quick reply! I will check that out! I have subscribed and added you to my favourites as well and I plan to watch all your stuff! Excellent job!
Hello @2dtoolbox I have a question, in the navigation I can't find how to rotate. I did the exact settings that you are discribing in the preference in input and keymap, but I can't rotate with ctrl + alt + middle mouse. I am searching this rotation thing for so long, can you help me with this ? Thank you
Hey Anne, I found out after the video, that the rotation only works with the grease pencil add-on installed. Just go to preferences - add-ons - search grease pencil in the search bar and tick that box next to the addon. Restart blender and it should work 🙏
i just found out. you would have to have the Greae pencil tools addon istaleld. which is now found on the extension.blender.org webside. just install it from there and all things should work out 🏋️♂️ extensions.blender.org/add-ons/grease-pencil-tools/
Top Arbeit. Gern weitermachen! Wenn du diese Tutorials mal auf Deutsch machst, kann ich dich meinen Nichten zeigen. Die hätten sicher auch Interesse, aber die sind noch nicht so weit in ihrem Englischunterricht.. :)
I am not 100 percent sure what you are talking about. There is a 2d animation file setting that opens the 2d animation workspace in the beginning. Is that the one you are missing? It is on the starting screen when you open Blender- should be there on Blender 3.4 as well

You can add grease pencil brushes by adding grease pencil tools in the preference addons menu. You do not need to download these anymore.
Great! Good to know

I'd like to try Blender, but I don't have a tablet. What would be a good inexpensive starter tablet for animation?

Hey quick question. Do you really need a screen display tablet for grease pencil or it doesn't matter?
I would recommend a Grafik tablet instead of a mouse, but it doesn't need to be a screen display. A wacom bamboo or wacom intous style tablet is great as well

I recommend using the sculpt tool brush "smooth" to make your lines smoother after you drew them
