The fact that there are still idiots that think google cardboard and samsung VR is even remotely close to what the vive and rift experience is, tells us that a majority of the audience has never tried the vive or rift. If they have, logically speaking, they are lying. Watching a 2d video on your screen or through a phone trying hard to process rudimentary 3d images does not qualify you for knowing what a VR experience is. If you haven't tried VR yet, then you don't have a valuable opinion yet.
Obviously you've never tried these if you believe they're significantly different. The only thing the computers provide that the phone-based systems don't is hand tracking and full desktop graphics processing. Wouldn't be surprised if someone gets hand tracking working on the Gear VR, either. It also doesn't hurt that it's self-contained so it doesn't have to plug into a bunch of shit (no wires to get in your way) and it has a high-res pass-through camera option that the Rift has none of and the Vive has a low-res version of. You can do much better AR with the Gear VR than you ever could with the Oculus or Vive.
You don't own both do you? Currently I own a Homido, 2xCardboards, and color cross. My CV1 Rift blows them out of the water. There's no low persistence, no positional tracking, horrible framerates, and the whole experience is only on par with DK1
***** *sign*, dude, I own the htc vive, rift cv1, samsung vr with a samsung s6 active, a powis VR, and a knox v2. Not a single word you typed is true, nor logical. You really think even a Snapdragon 820 is in par??? Like I don't even think you are intoxicated or just ignorant, that's just plain stupidity. Like calling a gameboy superior to a gtx 1080. Its not even funny, that's sad that you even remotely think that. You are so far behind on being knowledgeable about tech I'm surprised to find you on a LTT video comment section, of all places. BTW, you're talking about the leap motion for hand tracking. Go ahead and look it up, take a peek at those recommend specs. LMAO. Keep dreaming though, maybe someone, one day, will slap you really hard back to reality. One can only hope.
Nobbs66 Is that a joke? Because my phone's screen has 4x the resolution of the DK1, and faster head tracking. But nice try, kid. EVOLICIOUS I own a Vive, DK2, and Gear VR. They're not that different. I can assure you that it's not easy to take the DK2 or Vive to a remote or outdoor location, or to even move 20-50 ft from your computer tower. But I wouldn't expect a die-hard fanboy who can't understand what I typed to get that. I specifically said it doesn't have desktop-grade graphics, which is all you came back with. You're a #Genius saying that a GTX 1080 has better graphics...I never realized that. Clearly I thought that my cell phone has the same graphics as the latest-gen highest-end graphics card on the market. Jackass. I also wasn't talking about the LeapMotion controller, I was talking about the Vive hand controllers and the Oculus Touch controllers. I have a badass XBox-like controller for my phone from Steelseries, but none of the current DOF camera hand-tracking solutions are well supported on Android nor do they connect easily to a mobile system. I'm going to guess you're a child who had a Google Cardboard until it got wet from your tears when you couldn't afford an actual headset VR system, because people who use them both regularly know better than to think that the CPU is a major deciding factor in VR performance. I'm just a video game developer who makes VR apps for Android and Windows, though, so what the fuck do I know right?
Timed exclusive are exclusives and it's extra bad when Oculus buys devs that already got working vive support. Put down my pitchfork a few weeks back, but it would be fun to stab a little again.
No, timed exclusives are not exclusives, they are timed exclusives. That's why the word "timed" is there. Because there is very significant difference. One is "later", other is "never". I am not saying it's a good thing. But you saying it's the same is just idiotic. :D
@@AutGamerYT yeah seriously the permanent price drop to 400 and the recent sale seems to be selling it. I know several people who have already bought one and love it
I work in the IT department of a company that makes medical equipment and we have been experimenting with VR since the Rift DK2 and have 3 consumer Rifts and Vive's in the department. Under the excuse of "getting a better understanding of the devices" I've had two weeks of Rift followed by two weeks of Vive during my vacation time and had great experiences with both. The Rift headset is provides the better visual and audio experience with sharper image quality and readability when it comes to text and the build in headphones are surpisingly good and provides good spacial awareness in VR. But what it really sets the Rift apart is the comfort when wearing it for extended period of time. The Vive right now provides a completely different experience with roomscale which adds so much to the experience. But this is only a selling point if you actually have the space to use it so if you live in a small apartment or you live with your parents and you're limited to your bedroom I wouldn't recommend the Vive for you. The Rift has the better headset. The Vive has room scale. Honestly if you're set on buying a VR headset I would recommend you wait at least until the Oculus Touch is out. But don't forget that there are several other VR headsets in the works by different companies such as: Star VR, Fove, Razer OSVR and VR Union Claire.
basically all true man. i'm really excited about the oculus touch. it wil be able to run every htc vive game thanks to steamVR. god i love the people at steam. they might have saved oculus from doom i think!😂
I agree, I am also waiting on the Touch controllers although the wait may be even longer since I need a pc upgrade first (and currently my money is going to my house). All in good time, imo VR is not going away and will only get better in the future. I just have to be patient.
I lost interest in it once I heard that FACEBOOK took it over. I'll borrow something that Joel Hruska stated; If Mark Zuckerberg labored under the illusion that his company was trusted or seen, in any way, as having its finger on the future of gaming, those illusions should be shattered. Those of us who have been gaming since the 80286 was a hot ticket have generally watched the growth of Flash-based Facebook games with a mixture of skepticism and dismissal. Companies like Zynga may have gotten rich off Facebook engagement, but the kinds of games on Facebook are exactly what hardcore gamers and the Rift’s target audience don’t want. People may use Facebook, but that doesn’t automatically mean they like it. Zuckerberg has built a reputation for ignoring privacy, changing features on a whim, and relentlessly searching for more aspects of users’ lives that he can crunch into. There is no way Facebook’s entry into this space would be taken as anything but a cynical attempt to grab more user data, because that’s the reputation Facebook has built for *itself*. Meanwhile, Zuck’s utterly tone-deaf monologue about buying Oculus Rift because it was the future of social networking couldn’t have sounded worse to people who bought into Rift because it was the future of gaming. *“Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever,” Zuckerberg said, “and change the way we work, play and communicate.”* Newsflash, Zucky. Nobody bought a Rift because they want to be part of your social network. Nobody. And so, when you decide to hype your purchase by talking about features that literally nobody wants or paid for, it’s not surprising that people get a little cranky about the whole thing. The solution to this is to reaffirm your fundamental commitment to the original mission the Oculus Rift set out to achieve, talk about your plans for getting that project off the ground, emphasize that no, you won’t be using the Rift to tie people to Facebook, push Facebook, integrate Facebook, or attempting, in any way, to make anyone use Facebook.
Thats how the world feels about facebook and the rift ,, myself i wanted to see what second life was like on vr not facebook at all ,,,, if someone said here you are put this on ,,, my first question wouldn't be ,,, cool can i go on facebook with it lol push your strengths is key to success in business ps is there any facebook demos on the rift ,,, iv not looked or even thought about it ?? :P
+MadGamer i feel both of you are seriously narrow minded when it comes to vr. yes companies are looking into vr for things beside gaming. Try reading actual tech articles or podcasts related to vr.
"People may use Facebook, but that doesn’t automatically mean they like it" this, this right here ^^^^^^ is garbage. This is like those people that try and taste something and dont like it. Then, TELL you its bad and hand it to you to try yourself. "This is horrid, try it. . ."
"Newsflash, Zucky. Nobody bought a Rift because they want to be part of your social network. Nobody. And so, when you decide to hype your purchase by talking about features that literally nobody wants or paid for, it’s not surprising that people get a little cranky about the whole thing." "Nobody." "Literally." = Generalizations Nobody you personally know or care to empathize with wants Facebook in VR. Gaming enthusiasts, myself included, sure enough do not care about Facebook integrations in their games (and will likely avoid them). But it's short-sighted and childishly possessive of VR gamers not to realize that the destiny of the HMD is to become a universal platform. Communication, social networking, web browsing, shopping, education, industry... This tech costs 600-800 dollars right now, sans PC, and pretty much only gamers will be willing to spend that much for a display that's fascinating but still so very flawed (resolution needs to double or triple ASAP. A very huge challenge! Sales of these early headsets fund that R&D for future versions.) I own a Rift and would be hard-pressed to find the mark of Facebook, or even one mention of the service outside of the 360 videos app at this time. But on the day Facebook becomes a metaverse-style app in my Oculus Home library, you bet your ass I'll check it out on day one, and if it provides some kind of cool social value beyond regular Facebook, like the ability to "hang out" with the avatars of my friends and family, then not only will >I< be excited about that, but millions of regular people will sit up and take notice. Grandmas everywhere will start getting Rifts from their adult children so they can share a virtual world and play simple games with their grandchildren! If that sound like a nightmare scenario to you, then simply remember, the world isn't all about you, and things that don't cater exclusively to your interests or preferences, are nonetheless okay. Even great.
It is now 6 years later and Meta (formerly oculus) is now the leading member in VR gaming with the most popular standalone headset. It’s amazing to see how things can change in such a short amount of time.
It is more than a few hundred $s, anybody who has really been paying attention should not give their money to Oculus or Steam/HTC for that matter. We're still in the first gen of consumer VR headsets just wait 2 years and we will have much more refined headsets from more makers and the more powerful components to run them.
***** chill out. "Everyone does it" is the lamest excuse of all time. There was a time when LTT used to mean quality content that was a step above the sea of tech channels on youtube, and anyone who says there hasnt been in a drop in said quality is blind. my point is, they already have a huge, loyal fanbase (like u urself just proved). they dont need to resort to this type of low-brow shit to get views. and LTT is always open to fair criticism - they dont need u to blindly defend this nonsense.
It's interesting to hear a new take on the exclusivity thing. I was also under the impression that they were forcing exclusivity. But if they're just giving bonuses to those game developers who prioritize for their platform, I think that's fine.
exclusives for a peripheral device??? fuck off facebook. it's a monitor you put on your face with track ir when it really comes down to the nitty gritty. imagine if games were exclusive to a certain monitor or only works with a logitech keyboard or a razer mouse (what oculus are trying to do amounts to the same thing at the end of the day ) people wouldn't stand for it. I wonder how facebook and oculus thought it was gonna go? OF COURSE te internets was gonna throw a shitstorm. I feel sorry for all the original backers of rift who were promised something then watched it slowly eroded away. the really sad thing is that the rift is a brilliant bit of kit but I'll have no part of it while these assholes play their corporate games. valve invented a LOT of the technology that makes even the rift work and facebook pulls a typical shitty move and tries to lock their side down. (they even poached some of valves VR programmers and technicians). scumbags will always be scumbags and as soon as Palmer Luckey sold his soul to the devil I knew I wouldn't be getting a rift. PC gamers the world over should back the company that actually cares about PC gaming, that company is valve.
Uh, Valve didn't invent crap. Palmer Luckey is the guy who pioneered the current era of VR and created most of the designs that are used as the starting point for Vive, PSVR, and literally every other device. And a lot of that tech came from phones he cannibalized honestly. As for Valve caring about PC gaming, if they cared THAT much they would curate their f***ing storefront and clean out some of the borderline illegal and outright shady crap on Steam.
+Nuvendil um, Oculus DK2 changed to a Vive-like screen configuration. Valve also invented the lighthouse trackers which makes not sitting or standing in one spot a reality. So while Palmer did do a lot, Valve did too.
rhadiem First, the motion tracking tech is just previously existing tech beefed up and repurposed so pardon me for not giving it the same weight as the foundational elements of VR necessary to be successful seated or standing. Also, since Oculus isn't planning to do room scale as a central feature I don't think we can consider them indebted to Valve for a feature they aren't even using :P Second, the HTC Vive wasn't even unveiled until 2015. Valve did demo a very early build of a headset in June of 2014 (they showed it to some select devs earlier than that), but I don't know and no one really knew the exact specs of what was in it. The Oculus Rift DK2 came out in August of 2014. So unless Valve had the Vive setup already together in June and Palmer played it and then Oculus managed to figure it out and rip it off and produce a whole bunch of headsets in the space of less than 2 months...yeah, no they didn't copy that screen change from Vive. They had been experimenting with display setups for quite some time. That was one of the things they talked about a lot in development. So no, Valve didn't invent anything for which Oculus should be indebted.
What a complete Twat you are. Valve DID NOT develop the OR tech. They are very different. The Lighthouse tech infact is a rip off of OTHER companies designs. The EXCLUSIVES are just timed exclusives. Apart from their own in house stuff which is fine. HTC WILL have Vive only exclusives. The Controllers are different have have differnt controls and methods. The oculus Touch has Hand shape recognition which the Vive controllers do NOT. VIve has other things that Cannot be replicated in OR too. So of course their will be exclusives. I am developing a OR touch app and it just plain cannot be done with the Vive. oh and mean the company that Cares about gaming that charges devlopers 30-50% to be on their site but actually limits what you can and can't do to a massive extent and also you can only play Vive games THROUGH steam - Oculus can play anything from anywhere. You don't have to buy though the oculus store at all
Oh god, FacistBook owns the Rift. That explains things a lot... OH GOD. VR FACEBOOK GAMES. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
Lol, everyone is jumping on the Scarce wagon even though the kid is not talented. Lots of 'scary' and 'wtf dude'. Has no opinions at all. Keem being shit doesn't make the other guy talented.
I've tried it, and have it for myself. I can say that it feels like it's a gimmick, just like 3d movies. I can also say that it feels uncomfortable sitting on your face, it gets too warm, and it eventually cuts blood flow from your cheeks. All this on top of the feeling of motion sickness. Also a lack of variety of optimized games. I mean... I bought everything, everything, in the oculus store and it's so painfully dull.
PC VR isn't looking to exciting right now (as in not worth it so far). It is pretty much snoozing till some more solid content spending $600-$800 USD is just way too much. And now that android N with native VR support for everything in SBS & that Daydream is coming out on 4K beefy Daydream Ready phones is GG, VR On The Go & Everywhere (Full Wireless)
The more people that own those upcoming DD ready phones the more solid content there will be, since there will be a demand and an audience that is easily reached, thanks to google
I have at CVR, the Oculus Touch was amazing, I have also tried space pirate hunter trainer, that was awesome as well but there is not enough solid VR content. Yet. But then if everyone is waiting for content, not enough people will own the headsets thus less content is made.
AMD is trying to make a cordless VR headset with console like graphics it says. Phones are cool but still can't provide top tier quality experiences in terms of graphics, stable frame rate, & then there is the heating that comes with them.. Android N hopes to help with heating i know. Until the price comes down the masses will have to be stuck with mobile phone VR.
Now you can take this and show it momma and say: "Look mom! I made the big time now! I'm famous! I'm going to quit my job tomorrow. I'll tell my boss to stick it!" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I didn't know that the VR enthusiasts reacted so strongly against platform exclusivity. This is so reassuring to think that closed down APIs might have face consumer's wrath. I don't want VR to be the next game consoles, with each maker their own platform and store, and no competition to keep prices and innovation alive.
Imho - if you want to play 'normal' games (not VR only) Rift is a good choice. Longer DCS sessions because of lesser weight etc. Anyway - I does not give a crap about last things that guys from Oculus said - it will be a miracle if I'll play more than 5 games that are VR focused. I does not have enough free space to go around and jiggle my hands like a crazy chimpanzee, so I pass on motion controllers. Steering wheel and a joystick is enough to enjoy VR if you bought it for 'normal' games. Hate me if you want, but I know I'm right (so many salty ppl because of 'exclusive' shitty games? really...what time to live)
He's talking flight sims and racing games. Most of us playing those games on PC spend more money than that just for a good joystick (TM Warthog) or steering wheel/pedals. You can't play DCS with an Xbox controller and without some sort of head tracking device.
VR is completely uninteresting to me until we get some good, multi-directional movement. Having to teleport around everywhere for Vive games just doesn't look like fun to me. Games are extremely limited because of it, too. In that aspect, I actually prefer Oculus over Vive, since you're not so limited in control.
This comment doesn't make any sense. "Oculus over Vive, since you're not so limited in control." Vive has room-scale. Reality is literally the opposite of what you said. Neither HMD has more locomotion methods than the other. There are a lot more locomotion methods than just teleporting, and teleporting isn't any better on the Oculus. Go look up more locomotion methods on UA-cam, there are more than just teleporting.
Tornado92 the Vive has Room scale and theres the www.virtuix.com/ OMNI which is an direction pad you are strapped into so all the stuff is there and has been used before
yes because being only able to use keyboard and mouse and a controler at the moment on the rift, means you are less limited in your control, vs Vive which also has keyboard/mouse, controller and ....roomscale motion tracked control which which basically means vive has more control option. So to you this means the vive is more limited in its control. Since when is having more choices means limited and having less choice = not limited. The logic some people come up with. It's the same mentaility/logic that console gamers say fps game are better with controlers vs mouse and keyboard because its harder and limited.
How does this fit in with people who don't have enough living space to use a full Vive setup and actively seek a controller-focused experience as a result?
Lucasif The Odd that's not how money works. like at all. Housing costs is a recurring monthly cost that requires consistent income to afford, the Vive is a one-time cost that you can save up for over the course of months. Also, housing costs vary dramatically while the vive costs the same pretty much everywhere in the US at least. Meaning someone living in, say, San Fransisco can very easily be able to afford a vive but not the living space to use it.
Lucasif The Odd I literally explained how that's not the truth. Have you ever actually had to regularly pay rent before? Or are you still in college or something?
"high price point of VIVE" .. it has the sensors, the headset and controllers everything you need all in one .. 800$ Oculus is almost as much 600$.. you add the eventual controllers , which i'm sure will cost 100$ or more. and then we have the sensors. so they are both the same price, just the vive comes with more hardware. which obviously will cost more.
isn't kinect like 100 $ ? and nobody wants it. so 2 motion sensor cameras that a lot of people would be buying can be 100$ or more right ? and controllers why not ? xbox elite controller is 150$. so they theoretically could charge enough to be relatively the same price as a vive. the thing i was pointing out is that YES the vive costs more, BUT it comes with a lot more sutff out of the box, its a full experience, and currently the best VR has to offer.
Attila Kos You are only getting one camera in that package, and your not getting a super stupid customisable "elite" controller. I think it would be ridiculous for it then to cost that much, but you are right in that it is not impossible at least, though i believe the Rift wants to sell itself on at least being somewhat cheaper since the Vive is outselling them. There are just too many unknowns to really compare these two headsets as is, and the release of touch will change that. But as of right now, the Vive is the complete package. However, i would rather wait and see how both compare at full form, than to impatiently decide what to buy here and now.
+Attila Kos The Oculus only currently comes with the Xbox One controller *because* the oculus touch controllers aren't finished yet. When they are finished (second half of this year according to their website) they will ship default with just the touch controllers and both sensors, so it will not have the cost of the Xbox one controller. So even with the extra cost of maybe $150 *tops* for the touch controllers and extra sensor, making it about $750 maximum, you can take off the cost of about $50 for the controllers meaning that the maximum likely price will still be $100 cheaper than the Vive.
thats absolutely useless argument because they are NOT available. Vive already has it available and working, why would you release an incomplete product and expect us to wait 2 years for a controller? sorry but I have been into VR since the kickstarter days and oculus is fucking up big time, and not just on this aspect of it but also how they are trying to run the company now. Dont buy into their trash
Well I just got one for $399 and it's awesome. The software implementation is better than the Vive's despite the Vive having easier room scale setup. The display is better too. Ask me how I know 😜
Massively adjustable proven technology that's used in space. Yeah that's totally a sign of low quality... or the perfect way to guarantee the majority of users will be comfortable with it. Also something you can hack a fix for if you do break it.
The point is that velcro doesn't survive for very long and needs frequent replacing. Easy enough if you're NASA, good luck if you're a consumer electronics user. I mean how are you gonna do it? You can't even disassemble the thing without voiding your warranty. That's assuming you could even disassemble this contraption without tearing it apart.
+eLJaybud My kids had Velcro on their shoes to do them up. The shoes themselves well outlived the Velcro. It doesn't take long before it starts to stick badly and it starts to fray at the edges. Sorry, but for the kind of money these headsets cost, I don't care if the Queen of England uses the stuff to hold her crown on her head, I want better. Velcro is only one step up from string.
I can only speak from what I have experienced. So far I really like MY Oculus. I'm looking forward to the touch controller that will enhance immersion. A lot of the hate I'm seeing seems to come from people who don't even own a rift. As for exclusive content. Since when is that a new thing? MS, Sony, And Nintendo have done it for decades. In the end, I'm curious to see the update to this video once the touch comes out. Will it then make Oculus worthwhile (to this reviewer)? I guess time will tell. Until then, I'm very happy with my purchase.
1:35 "effortless to fit onto your head" ... unless you need glasses to see. No you can't use the rift as is as it does not provide any sight correction. No, it is not easy to put on. For me the only success I've had is to take my glasses off, put them in the rift, then gingerly put the whole thing on my head. Why? 1: the front piece is too narrow for most glasses, to where it can not go straight on. You have to angle the piece to get it around a set of prescription lenses.. but this is difficult because... 2: The head harness is NOT that flexible. It does not flip easily up to bare the face piece by itself, so putting it straight onto the face, or angling it to get around your glasses when they're on, is not possible. Granted, once it's on, it's about as good as the HTC vive. But the vive wins because of the all fabric construction of the harness and that makes it my goto for VR. If I can't casually put the headpiece on, then I can't play my games casually. You can see how stiff the harness is to move at 1:40.
Agree that its not easy to wear with glasses. On first attempt, I was surprised at how easy it was. On second attempt, I realised my expectations were originally so low that it seemed easy. Wearing it with glasses is a no-go. But at least for me, I actually haven't found it too much a problem using it without my glasses. The text is blurry with or without, so no difference there and not having a sharp focus helps negate the screen door effect. Heck, having astigmatism has made me used to "god rays," in everyday life, so I barely notice them, too.Frankly, I'd recommend an Oculus more to people with crappy eyesight than those with 20/20 vision!.
idk how big your glasses are, but i have no issues wearing glasses in the rift. you leave your glasses on, stuff your face in there first, then slide the back down over the back of your head.
No one should buy any VR Crap, its all a Gimmick right now. Look at the fucking Vive, you need a fucking extra room for it. Thats never going to happen! Best thing I could see is Occulus v2/v3 working well for Movies. But Games - no chance!
He's right though, it is all a gimmick currently. It's a ridiculous price for a bunch of party games and glorified tech demos. We are a long way away from decent VR games. Right now it exists only to wow people, not play games well. If you're anyone other than an enthusiast PC owner who needs the latest tech all the time, it's a complete waste of money right now.
The biggest problem with gaming on the Vive isn't the area needed. It's the games being developed for it. To an extent this affects the Oculus with the Touch Controllers as well. All games are using fucking teleportation as the method of movement... Fallout4 VR that's being released soon use teleportation.. That's not immersive, a normal human being does not fucking teleport.
I pre ordered the Rift originally then they decided to market Rift at Best Buy instead of honor my pre Ordered. Needless to say I was not happy canceled my order then bought the Vive which i got a month before and Rift was expected to ship. After using the Vive extensively dont know why I even considered i rift. Its amazing just needs a steady stream of software.
As far as the rift Controllers The problem is the Tracking cameras have to be tethered through Usb to your computer which will be so inconvenient imagine 10 feet wires all over your living room. The beauty of the Vive is the tracking cameras are just plugged into a outlet you have more options of cable management that way. I have my wires hidden behind my window curtains to the outlet. The sensors in the Vive headset which do the communicating to your PC are a sneaky huge Tech advantage over the rift. This is why the Vive headset is not as comfortable.
Oculus touch is slightly better, and the rift is more comfortable than the Vive, but lighthouse is way better than constellation for tracking and Vive also got the chaperone system, so you don't hit a wall with your face or controller.
I have a vive, picked one up last Saturday. Before that I had the rift dk2. Don't get me wrong the dk2 was good. But the controllers for the vive and the current support it has with games drew me to one conclusion... It has to be a HTC
See for me, I'm huge fan of simulators and games that provide immersion. Games and programs like FSX, Fallout 4, etc. The Rift was something that I had my heart set on getting because it was really the only PC-based VR headset I knew of at the time, and I assumed the retail version would be around $300 like the DK2. My computer had a 980TI so hardware wasn't a problem for me so when the consumer version was announced, I quickly lost interest. While I understand that VR is a luxury and not everyone can afford it, the jump from $300 to $600 still surprises me to this day. This really made accessibility to VR harder for the general public. I know that Samsung has Gear and there's also Google Cardboard, but the hardware is limited to your smartphone, not your PC. When I demoed the Vive this week, I was totally blown away at what VR has to offer. Even though I never got to test the Rift, the mechanics are the same, despite one huge caveat: The Rift does not support 3D space. This is huge because for games that require motion beyond head movement, motion sickness will become a factor. If your body begins to sense motion and you're not physically moving, you're gonna get really sick. For the small 15ft "box" that the Vive puts you in, that's surprisingly a nice comfortable area to play around in without feeling cramped or stuck. Also, the controllers for the Vive are absolutely fantastic. You can get a sense for where everything is in 3D space, even though you can't physically see your hands. It's intuitive and fun!
I'm madder at oculus for cutting support to the vive than anything. In a normal industry this is perfectly fine, but if oculus wants ANYONE's product to succeed, they need to play nice for now.
I was pretty sure that they did give it like a week or two ago. They disabled the check to see what games are working on what system, so the guy who made the emulator of the rift for the vive can now make sure that people BOUGHT the games, but doesn't have to make sure that they're on the rift. How they worded it in the press release made it sound like it wasn't what they were doing, but it was. As long as you have the emulator, which is free, you can play all your rift games on Vive now.
If I owned Google, I would not co-sponsor Bing. Like sure I would want to bring the search engine world to the bleeding edge, but I'd like to be there to see it happen, rather than fade in time and become a stepping stone to something greater.
Honestly, I'm just worried that so many people are waiting for version 2 that one won't exist. The wireless thing doesn't make sense though, unless you're talking about one of those VR backpacks introduced at E3. There's just no way to reliably stream processing power without there being input lag, which would be DEVASTATING to a VR game.
C North Unless there's a serious upgrade from the devkit, there's two problems with that. The first is that the hololens relies on a backdrop to make things pop out, I don't think that the see-through screen will be able to give the opaqueness to not allow some of the outside world to break through, ruining immersion. The second is that, again, unless there's serious changes from the devkit, and I don't think there will be in this regard, the hololens can only process a relatively small box directly in front of it, and not the full screen. Until such a time as those change, no, the hololens can't do VR. I'm not saying that the hololens isn't cool, but I'm saying that at its price, it'll be a good buy for businesses, so professionals can mess with their stuff in 3d and that kind of stuff, and not for consumers.
Vensey Ness You're trying to come up with reasons just to be contrarian. The Hololens doesn't require a backdrop. The objects are overlayed, they aren't transparent, so logic would dictate no backdrop is required. After all, they show a TV app that allows you to put a virtual TV screen on a wall....if that were transparent to where you could see stuff behind it, it would be useless. They can very well make the Hololens take up the entire field of view of the user, and they're probably going to have to at final release. Currently, Hololens works with onboard processing, but it can work with offboard processing, like with a GPU in a PC.....so the view size can easily change, there's nothing really limiting about creating a larger viewing area other than processing power.
As an owner of both Vive and CV1, I can tell you that only one company is trying to treat their HMD as a platform. What Oculus is basically doing is saying "you must have this monitor and mouse to play our games." FB influence over them is blatantly obvious, and its toxic.IMO both are roughly the same quality. It really isn't about which is better, but about practices. If you want EA/Activision type online connection for single player BS, then you wont mind Oculus... However, when all your games are mired into logging into Facebook, micro-transactions, and advertising just to play, you'll see why this isn't BS. My hope is that the consumers begin revolting against these business practices of companies.
Hard to spend 600 on a headset just for a seated experience though. 350 at local electronic store for Rift. Review seems a little unbalanced, especially because one of the biggest sectors of the VR world is simracing/flying and the vast majority state the Right for many reasons, with a huge reason being the comfort. Races can be 1-2hrs, nonstop. The Vive is a very front heavy headset.
oculus is almost half price, comes with 3 sensors instead of 2, comes with wireless xbox controller, better looking everything, better hand controllers, only 1 cable from pc to headset, built in headphones and microphone, it's made of fabric instead of plastic so you don't get warm, it's half the weight and it has better game support. I really don't see why anyone would buy the Vive after the hand controllers came out for the oculus
My father bought an Oculus 2 months ago. I wanna belive we were very unlucky, since one of the controler triggers broke in less than 10h of use and the entire headset died in 2 weeks.... Overall, quality is way below the Vive (from headset material to lens) and the sensors are a disaster, since there's not 4 of them (like on the Vive) and the Oculus ones project an area from in front of you ( without creating a cubicule) the second you are facing backwards them you encounter a ton of bugs and problems that break the experience. Paying the extra bucks from the Vive is definitely worth it
You mentioned that you had the opportunity to try the "new version" of the Vive at CES. As this video is now 6 months old, are you actually referring to the Vive that is currently available to consumers at the time of this writing, or is there another version on its way? The SDE difference is the one thing that's holding me back from jumping on the Vive, so just wanted to make sure there wasn't another version round the corner... Thanks for the video! :)
@Luke you say should i buy one? and you say "Nope" Well please explain why i should not buy one? Because you not giving me anything to think about yet... i sure don't want a vive because i don't want to clear a whole room to play a game.... So please tell me what is really so bad about the rift itself?
Imo, because they saw improvement in the next version of occulus, and want you to buy their used headset on eBay when they upgraded to new one. It is a win-win situation, because it save money.
This. I'm tired of all these plebs saying how it's a shitty gimmick because all they know about is shovelware tech demos. If you play simulators vr is fucking amazing.
Daniel Santos I have a G27. I would love to play ETS2/ATS, Assetto Corsa, Stock Car Extreme, etc. in VR. Yeah, it's a bit pricey but I hope I can make the step next year at least. I'll have to be content with my 22" monitor and my freetrack clip until then.
Ronald Raygun indeed... I have an old DFP but I am saving for future upgrades on my machine and for a headset... It's gonna be awesome! My picks are Live for speed, ATS and Asseto corsa ;)
You don't make much sense. You say the rift controllers you tried were slightly better yet you still encourage to get vive instead of waiting a bit for what might even be a slightly better standing experience. As for sitting experience, you're more often than not, likely to be playing with a steering wheel or hotas than a gamepad or vive controllers. So vr headset ergonomics and visual qualities are the main deciding factors. Of which on ergonomics you said Rift was quite prominent.
The oculus is better for sitting gameplay and seems to be a more comfortable headset, but fucking exclusives on what is essentially a monitor a few inches from your eyes? it's just stupid, you can't play ANY steam VR games, what the fuck? steam is literally the biggest PC game distribution platform so you are missing out on a bulk of VR games if you get an oculus
I see pixels on Rift a lot easier, Vive blurs pixels together so you can't see them as easily. It's Rifts sharper lenses that help spot pixels/screen door.
+Nate Mazzara I can read most text fine on Vive, granted Rifts better for text, but it looks unnatural in a lot of games. I prefer Vive when games don't have much text to read. Vive isn't that blury it just blends pixels together to smooth out the images. whether you like it or not is personal preference. But Rift is sharper over all instead of Vives "sweet spot" in centre of vision.
It's about making money, as all businesses strive to do. It's also less of a cost for developers since they don't have to develop for two platforms. Good try though.
Nekros Except for roomscale, which Oculus doesn't have. Also, the touch controls have shitty tracking compared to the light-house method. They also don't come with the Oculus, so that's a problem as well. The Oculus's cord is too short for roomscale even if you could kind of do it. Nothing will change except for a couple Oculus exclusive.
MemeMachine9k Roomscale is a gimmick that Rift + Touch sensors are actually capable of, just not planned to be used because the setup is a pain in the ass for the end user and game developer.
At this point, I still want to see the price point of a Rift that would ship with the touch controllers before I call it an investment. If for example, Oculus decides to keep bundling games an an XBOX controller with the Rift, noticeably bringing the price up, to then add up the price of the touch controllers, well.. That would not be my investment. Price is already way higher than it was meant to be, with newer games requiring a really beefy card, which may or may not require a new PSU/motherboard, depending on whether or not the CPU also needs to change, well.. Price goes up really quickly. Still, if ever exclusivity with apps and stuff like that happens, well.. I'm hoping Oculus will enjoy jailbreakers
I think it's fair to say the Vive has a temporary advantage, because it's controllers don't have the same fidelity as Touch. Oculus could have put out similar controllers with ease, but they wanted to step it up with full palm detection, which is far more complex to achieve, but once achieved, it's a whole new experience. Then what? Vive will become obsolete until next gen of VR. To add to that, no built-in headphones (which are superb) and it's heavier. If Oculus were not to release Touch by the end of this year, I'd stay clear of them.
See, that's incorrect. Oculus does room scale even with just one camera. Now imagine two of them. Oculus uses IR image-filtering instead of laser to detect things. It should come at the cost of negligible increase in cpu usage. Let's just wait and see instead of bickering on stuff that hasn't come out yet.
2018 Oculus room scale is far better and more practical with 2 sensors 180 degrees from each other. Works flawlessly. Far more intuitive Touch controls that don't get heavy in your hands. And better pixel density than Vive for viewing distant objects. Vive is a nearsighted simulation. Oh yeah and the Vive Pro is another $800 for the HMD only and didn't improve their controls. lmao... yeaah
I'm unaware of the controversy surrounding the Rift. But is it really just because they have a bunch of exclusive games? Really? And it sounds like all they did was give the game developers extra money to program the games for their console first. Why is that so controversial?
Would you support sony if they made playstation only playable on sony televisions? That is what is going on here. It is just a way to view content, and is not a very unique product to itself.
TheDudeofDudes The Rift having exclusive games is no different than Xbox or PS4 having exclusive games. The Rift is a toy. It's not a basic viewing device like a TV. Maybe in the future VR will be as common and practical as a TV, but that's not at all the case now. I don't see the problem with Rift having exclusive games. Every game-playing device to ever exist has had exclusive games. The Rift is much closer to a console like the PS4 than a TV. The games have to be programmed specifically for the Rift. TVs can play any basic media. And again, it sounds like all they did was give developers extra money so they could program their games for the Rift before it was released onto other VR sets. So many of these games will not be exclusive to the Rift for long. Sony making a PS4 only playable on a Sony TV is much different. A TV is a basic commodity, and you expect a gaming console to be able to work with any TV. Sony also has a dedicated following of people who play their games and expect to be able to continue to do so. Forcing their customers to buy a Sony TV would be pulling the rug out from underneath them. The rift is brand new and is currently used as a toy. It's not the same situation.
The problem wasn't that games were exclusive to a platform aka the Oculus store, but that they were exclusive to only the Rift headset. Both the Rift and Vive are just monitors with motion sensors, so when you prevent people from playing games because they bought a different monitor, it becomes an issue. Luckily, last month, Oculus removed the DRM that caused this, so you can now play Oculus store games with a Vive headset.
+Fine Wine Daily rift and vive are displays with a custom controller input. It's not it's own platform. You're not running it on separate hardware, you need a computer with windows and steam or oculus home(blech) Not sure how people can legitimately put themselves behind the sentiment that it's 'like a ps4.' The only limitations causing the true exclusives (vive is the only one with exclusives, and by no fault of its own) is the controller mismatch. Vive has room scale. Rift doesn't. Simple. You're still playing the same games on the same machine. It's idiotic to compare this to console differences. That's like saying the Og Xbox one and slim are as different as a ps4 and Xbox merely because the slim doesn't have a Kinect port. The slim can have a Kinect adapter, and the rift can add touch controllers.
VR is headed in a way too gimmicky direction in my opinion. I want VR with mouse and keyboard, real proper games. Not these gimmicky motion control "experiences".
Well, the most obvious games suited for the current VR tech are racing and flight/space sims. They don't require much extra for almost complete immersion other than a gaming wheel or flight stick/throttle + pedal. Then again for those you can just use TrackIR instead.. heck you can probably get three 19" or 20" monitors AND TrackIR and it'll still be cheaper than the current VR headsets. Mostly I'd just want VR for RPG, Adventure, or Survival type games. Maybe some sandbox games like GTA too, but so far these motion controls looks fairly clunky ATM, and reminds me too much of the Wii LOL.
Can anyone help me, all of the icons on my desktop dissapeared and when I go onto the desktop folder it says that my icons are there, pls halp. Windows 10 btw
The Rift now kicks the Vive's ass in every aspect now except maybe roomscale where you would need to buy an additional sensor. But at $399 or £350 with the Rift + Touch it's an absolute bargain. Even after purchasing another sensor
even with full room. just ordered a whole setup for room size and it was $500 still way cheaper than vive and it seems like everyone says the oculus controllers and headset are better.
LOL Talk about not catching the entire picture :) A lot has changed in 20 months. Oculus are by no means the saviour of VR but they are definately not dead. Sales are ahead of Vive, HTC have dropped the ball with the rediculously expensive Vive Pro. Touch controllers proved great, Go has been very positive and with FB they have very strong financial backing. The issues with Oculus business model of adopting exclusive titles has pretty much gone away with the Re-vive and the Rift can pretty much play any Steam Vive exclusive as well. I still love my Rift and thinking of buying a Go... Super stoked about CV2 as well.
>Without some form of hand presence, even something rudimentary, the Rift feels incomplete. This is completely untrue. There will always be a step further you can go to immerse yourself, like for instance full-body tracking. I'm sure once you've tried VR with tracking of the entire body, VR with only hand controllers will seem really basic. But the thing is, the ONLY thing required to achieve the so-called "presence" is 3D goggles and head tracking. The OR DK1 already PROVED THIS to us. There is absolutely nothing wrong with VR with a controller or VR with KB/M when it comes to immersion. (People who get seasick getting motion sickness are another issue entirely.)
I don't have nearly enough money for a high-end VR headset, but I'm super excited for the Vive and I'm very excited to see it thrive. The only problem for me is the way movement is handled with the current version of the Vive - teleporting around while being able to walk around in a fixed room and whatnot. Omnidirectional treadmills seem like a good idea but right now there isn't a simple and cost-effective way to get them out there and they'd be hell to set up. One guy came up with the solution of shoving one vive controller down your pants and running on the spot to achieve movement, but that's just silly. Wondering how free movement could be handled in the home space without sinking in $2000..
I know I'm late, but most people that say that oculus is bad, and that the vive is the best, are the people that haven't tried either one, and just say that because most youtubers have it.
Well, that was for a different reason. Luke and the community cancelled due to the vive being better/ less shitty shipping bullshit, etc. You cancelled because a company bought oculus, which is still crazy considering facebook doesn't really tell oculus what to do.
0:32 I always knew I'd make it into a LinusTechTip video one day! :)
gg👏
Hats off!
lol lucky you
good job m8
👍
EVOLICIOUS Wait, wtf was I trying to argue? I agree with what you said. Fucking hell I must have been tired last night.
Google basically gave them the middle finger "I could do everything you done here with a piece of cardboard"
You don't get it
Yes it is. Case closed
No they didn't, the experience of a google cardboard isn't even close to the one that a vive or even a rift offers.
+/\ ClassMore /\ but they did something extremely similar in a cost effective way.
As a gyro capable, display only HMD, yes. Even the Gear VR has control input.
Timed exclusive are exclusives and it's extra bad when Oculus buys devs that already got working vive support. Put down my pitchfork a few weeks back, but it would be fun to stab a little again.
oh hello there 10 months late and finally your first like
Robbaz so in ur opinion what's better Oculus rift or HTC vive
:D WALRUS MAN
Robbaz yes you're my fav youtuber. Actually no I hate you for killing my fav sim
No, timed exclusives are not exclusives, they are timed exclusives. That's why the word "timed" is there. Because there is very significant difference. One is "later", other is "never". I am not saying it's a good thing. But you saying it's the same is just idiotic. :D
One year later : oculus is still alive and kicking :D
another year later: still alive and even more kicking it :D
@@AutGamerYT yeah seriously the permanent price drop to 400 and the recent sale seems to be selling it. I know several people who have already bought one and love it
bought one on black friday, fucking love it!
@@BestGamerFreindz fuck yeah buddy. Me too. Way too much fun.
love the rift. Oculus quest right around the corner. Im interested to see how the sensors work built into the HMD.
Thanks for sharing your experience with both headsets. I'm inclined towards holding off on buying a VR headset as well.
basically all true man. i'm really excited about the oculus touch. it wil be able to run every htc vive game thanks to steamVR. god i love the people at steam. they might have saved oculus from doom i think!😂
Thank you for your well-informed, mature and cohesive input. It's one of the first I've seen in this comment section.
I agree, I am also waiting on the Touch controllers although the wait may be even longer since I need a pc upgrade first (and currently my money is going to my house). All in good time, imo VR is not going away and will only get better in the future. I just have to be patient.
And games is using teleportation as movement.. Fallout4 VR that's being released for the Vive use teleportation for movement, that's fucking retarded.
I lost interest in it once I heard that FACEBOOK took it over. I'll borrow something that Joel Hruska stated;
If Mark Zuckerberg labored under the illusion that his company was trusted or seen, in any way, as having its finger on the future of gaming, those illusions should be shattered.
*“Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever,” Zuckerberg said, “and change the way we work, play and communicate.”*
Newsflash, Zucky.
"People may use Facebook, but that doesn’t automatically mean they like it"
this, this right here ^^^^^^ is garbage. This is like those people that try and taste something and dont like it. Then, TELL you its bad and hand it to you to try yourself. "This is horrid, try it. . ."
It's not garbage, maybe for your perspective, but I certainly don't like it, but do use it because the people I love are on it.
"Newsflash, Zucky. Nobody bought a Rift because they want to be part of your social network. Nobody. And so, when you decide to hype your purchase by talking about features that literally nobody wants or paid for, it’s not surprising that people get a little cranky about the whole thing."
"Nobody." "Literally." = Generalizations
Nobody you personally know or care to empathize with wants Facebook in VR. Sales of these early headsets fund that R&D for future versions.)
I own a Rift and would be hard-pressed to find the mark of Facebook, or even one mention of the service outside of the 360 videos app at this time.

We're still in the first gen of consumer VR headsets just wait 2 years and we will have much more refined headsets from more makers and the more powerful components to run them.

u already have almost 3 million subscribers.
Do u rly need this recent trend of click-bait titles??
***** maybe u should read the comment more carefully. i never once mentioned losing subscribers from the purge. this is about clickbait titles.
+steve and maby you should cry less
what isnt a clickbait title?
These replies to your comment make me facepalm so hard. I agree with you Steve, LTT has been dropping in quality lately.
It's interesting to hear a new take on the exclusivity thing. I was also under the impression that they were forcing exclusivity. But if they're just giving bonuses to those game developers who prioritize for their platform, I think that's fine.
most of these devs took money off HTC/Valve and screwed them over, don't trust anything they say. Most likely PR lies for damage control.
Well, NOW! they are backpedaling on their drm shit like crazy, since the antidote involved making the games pirate heaven.
Yeah no there was DRM on the darn thing that does hardware checks but they quietly dropped it. That was the issue he failed to pick up on.
i believe this video was made before oculus dropped the drm thing so he didnt 'fail to pick up on' it
MoDRun
Well then he flat out didn't mention it. That's "better"?
exclusives for a peripheral device???
fuck off facebook.
it's a monitor you put on your face with track ir when it really comes down to the nitty gritty.
imagine if games were exclusive to a certain monitor or only works with a logitech keyboard or a razer mouse (what oculus are trying to do amounts to the same thing at the end of the day ) people wouldn't stand for it.
Also, since Oculus isn't planning to do room scale as a central feature I don't think we can consider them indebted to Valve for a feature they aren't even using :P
Second, the HTC Vive wasn't even unveiled until 2015.

2 years later Oculus takes #1 headset on steam.
VR is a gimmick, just like 3D movies.
not for the distant future though
"Touch screen technology is a gimick, just like those new '4D' movies"-Me back in 2007
I've tried it, and have it for myself.
No. No. Just no.
Obviously you haven't tried it.
You clearly have never tried it.
That is where its really at, but gotta wait for one to popup in Vancouver
AMD is trying to make a cordless VR headset with console like graphics it says. Phones are cool but still can't provide top tier quality experiences in terms of graphics, stable frame rate, & then there is the heating that comes with them.. Android N hopes to help with heating i know.
Until the price comes down the masses will have to be stuck with mobile phone VR.
Aww yiss I got featured! Such fame. Much wow.

lmao i love that reply digimutant :D
You can still use a controller with the vive
Buying a 600$ headset just to play "normal" games with an Xbox controller does not make sense IMO
He's talking flight sims and racing games. Most of us playing those games on PC spend more money than that just for a good joystick (TM Warthog) or steering wheel/pedals. You can't play DCS with an Xbox controller and without some sort of head tracking device.
I completely agree, I think the Oculus is better for games with conventional controls.
I don't think so. Endorsing and encouraging exclusivity, by buying, is utter madness.
Search for the Virtuix Omni
Tornado92 the Vive has Room scale and theres the www.virtuix.com/ OMNI which is an direction pad you are strapped into so all the stuff is there and has been used before
You can use the HTC Vive sit as well...
yes because being only able to use keyboard and mouse and a controler at the moment on the rift, means you are less limited in your control, vs Vive which also has keyboard/mouse, controller and ....roomscale motion tracked control which which basically means vive has more control option. So to you this means the vive is more limited in its control.
Since when is having more choices means limited and having less choice = not limited. The logic some people come up with. It's the same mentaility/logic that console gamers say fps game are better with controlers vs mouse and keyboard because its harder and limited.
Way to facebook, you corrupted Oculus now EVERYBODY go get the vive and enjoy VR
Meant to say "way to go"
Mobile?
Lol how did facebook corrupt oculus? Last I checked, they only funded it.
yeah, they own the project they can pretty much do what they want.
Meanwhile in 2018. Oculus with better pixel density for distant details. Better touch controls with full roomscale. Plays both Steam and Oculus games.

Lucasif The Odd you're either a troll or you are REALLY bad with money if you don't grasp the concept here.
I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to move just because the vive came out regardless if they have the $800 for the headset.
pretty sure you're the moron here. ever saved up for something? ever seen money?
"high price point of VIVE" .. it has the sensors, the headset and controllers everything you need all in one .. 800$
Oculus is almost as much 600$.. you add the eventual controllers , which i'm sure will cost 100$ or more.
and then we have the sensors.
so they are both the same price, just the vive comes with more hardware. which obviously will cost more.
I can't imagine that the controllers and one individual camera will cost you 200 dollars though? I sincerely hope not at least.
isn't kinect like 100 $ ? and nobody wants it.
so 2 motion sensor cameras that a lot of people would be buying can be 100$ or more right ?
and controllers why not ? xbox elite controller is 150$.
so they theoretically could charge enough to be relatively the same price as a vive.
the thing i was pointing out is that YES the vive costs more, BUT it comes with a lot more sutff out of the box, its a full experience, and currently the best VR has to offer.
Attila Kos
You are only getting one camera in that package, and your not getting a super stupid customisable "elite" controller.
What about if I only intend to use it in Simulators in which I wouldn't need the VR controllers??
you can still do that and it has controllers included
I mean which one would he suggest in that case.
+KastaRules I'm guessing vibe because it has a better build quality and you get extra features for only 200 more
Features I wouldn't need. You sure about build quality? I am reading from different sources that the Rift feels more solid than the Vive.
+KastaRules honestly I would wait for vr, give it a couple of years and you'll see ones taht will be better
Well I just got one for $399 and it's awesome. The software implementation is better than the Vive's despite the Vive having easier room scale setup. The display is better too. Ask me how I know 😜
Back then vive was better but now oculus is better because of tounch
And now you can get it for only 2 FLIPPING 99 DOLLARS
When does the PedoBear version of TunnelBear come out?
PedoTunnel?
I think I live just up the road from there...
2018 - VR still going strong, sales in 2017 exceeded those of 2016
Because nothing spells quality more than Velcro straps.
bruh, the vive has velcro straps too
Massively adjustable proven technology that's used in space.
MaxwellGaming Valve says it's pronounced "vaiv". End of story.

ICKY427 Then how about you post a video of doing just that, and I'll point out how you have to manipulate the stiff frame and wear it out faster.
No one should buy any VR Crap, its all a Gimmick right now. Look at the fucking Vive, you need a fucking extra room for it. Thats never going to happen!
Best thing I could see is Occulus v2/v3 working well for Movies. But Games - no chance!
You can use the vive in any space, however 15x15 feet is recommended.
ya like people dont set up entertainment rooms specially for things like home theaters or arcade areas. 😝
He's right though, it is all a gimmick currently. It's a ridiculous price for a bunch of party games and glorified tech demos. We are a long way away from decent VR games. Right now it exists only to wow people, not play games well.
If you're anyone other than an enthusiast PC owner who needs the latest tech all the time, it's a complete waste of money right now.
like 2 years away from affordable/good quality VR
The extra price for the Vive over the Rift is ok to me since you are getting a dedicated controller.
Right out of the box, as well.
+Markus Brorson tf no
Markus Brorson Your opinion is invalid then if you have no first hand experience. You shouldn't go by what other people say.
Oculus touch is slightly better, and the rift is more comfortable than the Vive, but lighthouse is way better than constellation for tracking and Vive also got the chaperone system, so you don't hit a wall with your face or controller.
I actually got the chance to demo the Vive at a Microsoft store and I can really see why everyone is shifting to HTC.
vive
I have a vive, picked one up last Saturday. Before that I had the rift dk2. Don't get me wrong the dk2 was good. But the controllers for the vive and the current support it has with games drew me to one conclusion... It has to be a HTC
ihudt9-haert9-8htae87sgs98aweryxe 87d289FYH78956
+Chris Riches Damn you, I'm so jelly.
As long as you have the emulator, which is free, you can play all your rift games on Vive now.
if Valve quit suporting VR, our lose is vr exclusive company named Oculus!
Neddskorg Because it was already present, and they actively put effort into removing it.
Neddskorg gg noice argument avoiding insult
If I owned Google, I would not co-sponsor Bing. Like sure I would want to bring the search engine world to the bleeding edge, but I'd like to be there to see it happen, rather than fade in time and become a stepping stone to something greater.
So bottom line is both a waste of money and wait for version 2. Or like what Im doing waiting for wireless versions
C North
Yeah, better to wait for the $2000 thing that makes augmented reality stuff instead of virtual reality stuff.
Vensey Ness
Augmented reality is capable of virtual reality. It's just perspective.....AR is an overlay.....overlay the entire screen and it's VR.
C North
Unless there's a serious upgrade from the devkit, there's two problems with that.
Vensey Ness
You're trying to come up with reasons just to be contrarian.
Sounds Like That PS4 VS Xbox Bullshit! This is PC Man. We don't need that negativity. Just release the damn games and apps to all platforms.

Drool Sheep oculus has the edge. But this vid is biased
The vid is 1 and a half years old. That's why...
Paying the extra bucks from the Vive is definitely worth it
Well this didn't age well
now you can get it with the motion controllers for $399. Pretty competitive considering that it's half the price of the Vive.
This aged like milk...thanks facebook
the only reason people would buy a oculus over a vive is the price...
What about comfort, less SDE, less jitter, and integrated audio
this aged like milk
I just bought mine today, I'm absolutely blown away honestly. Don't give a shit what people think of the company's tactics if the hardware is good.
@Luke you say should i buy one? and you say "Nope" Well please explain why i should not buy one? Because you not giving me anything to think about yet... i sure don't want a vive because i don't want to clear a whole room to play a game.... So please tell me what is really so bad about the rift itself?
I don't want a vive for that reason to.
Vive can be played seated just like the oculus, but you have the added benefit of moving around if you wish to.
ah oke that's cool, i did not know that yet! thx for info :)
No problem.
Imo, because they saw improvement in the next version of occulus, and want you to buy their used headset on eBay when they upgraded to new one. It is a win-win situation, because it save money.

i'm gonna get the oculus rift to use with my hotas (joystick and throttle)
This. I'm tired of all these plebs saying how it's a shitty gimmick because all they know about is shovelware tech demos. If you play simulators vr is fucking amazing.
i did aswell! i'm using my cv1 with dcs world, elite dangerous. and oh man. racing games are the shit. but get a racing wheel if you do!
+Ronald Raygun agree! What about sim racing/driving? This is such a good think for us, sim players, but for now it is too expensive...
For the record, I wrote the above without any of the Rift's controversy in mind.
Couldn't agree more.
+MrTrollinglol huh? I bought an Oculus CV1 and was able to play all my normal games on Steam. There are no restrictions on Steam games whatsoever.
1 month later. Rift is still better..
well but you can see pixels on HTC Vive but much lesser on Oculus
no, Vive have biggert screens
I see pixels on Rift a lot easier, Vive blurs pixels together so you can't see them as easily. It's Rifts sharper lenses that help spot pixels/screen door.
vive blurs the whole picture so you cant see clearly or read text easily
+Nate Mazzara I can read most text fine on Vive, granted Rifts better for text, but it looks unnatural in a lot of games. I prefer Vive when games don't have much text to read. Vive isn't that blury it just blends pixels together to smooth out the images. whether you like it or not is personal preference. But Rift is sharper over all instead of Vives "sweet spot" in centre of vision.
yeah true, oculus has less screen door effect
Exclusivity is caused by greed and insecurity.
Geez, you make it sound like those things are bad.

It seemed pretty neutral to me.
It's about making money, as all businesses strive to do. It's also less of a cost for developers since they don't have to develop for two platforms. Good try though.
These are peripherals you moron not GPUs. There is hardly a difference in labor to develop for 2 different kinds of fucking monitors.

Ok, sorry.
It's not my fault the Vive makes me feel alive!
It's now 2018 and Oculus seems to be doing fine. They seem to be holding their own against the Vive.
Oculus is a better investment.
Why's that?
MemeMachine9k The main advantage of the Vive are the controls. Once touch comes out, that will change.
Looking back i laugh at all the people poking fun at oculus. The rift WITH controllers is only $400 and there are a TON of games that are awesome.
If Oculus were not to release Touch by the end of this year, I'd stay clear of them.
oculus doesn't have roomscale
See, that's incorrect. Oculus does room scale even with just one camera. Now imagine two of them. Oculus uses IR image-filtering instead of laser to detect things. It should come at the cost of negligible increase in cpu usage. Let's just wait and see instead of bickering on stuff that hasn't come out yet.
+HardwareAddiction oh yeah dude u right I missed all these videos of people walking around a room in oculus and picking stuff up and having fun
TheDudeofDudes
The Rift having exclusive games is no different than Xbox or PS4 having exclusive games.
You're not running it on separate hardware, you need a computer with windows and steam or oculus home(blech)
Not sure how people can legitimately put themselves behind the sentiment that it's 'like a ps4.' The only limitations causing the true exclusives (vive is the only one with exclusives, and by no fault of its own) is the controller mismatch.
They pay for it they can have the games for themselves I don't see valve investing.
Last time i was this early, linus twitter password was still HoweverMagnetTime5$ xP
ikr, I still can't believe he did that!!😂
Best Wan show ever hehe
And what if it was a honeypot trap?
lololololol
No. Its still alive...and better then Vive :3
Can we all agree that VR haters just can't afford it.
From top dog to dog house.
Good video luke, Id love to see more VR stuff in the future, even if its on the LAFR channel
Its July 27th 2017, Oculus is not dead.
VR is headed in a way too gimmicky direction in my opinion. I want VR with mouse and keyboard, real proper games. Not these gimmicky motion control "experiences".
The reason motion controls are a thing is because it incorporates your hands into a game, same with roomscale.
What the hell are you going to do with VR sitting in a chair at a keyboard and mouse? You don't want VR, you want a 3D monitor.
You can get the Rift touch for only $599 right now at best buy and they give you a $150 gift card. That's worth considering
NO IT AIN"T
the boss You're black you don't have money
399.99 now
just bought it plus all the stuff for full room standing for $500 waaay cheaper option over vive
Corbonzo got mine for $350
2 motion controllers, 2 sensors, and cv1. And I feel very proud about it (:
Do you have a video of the new version of the Vive that you used at CES? I'm interested in seeing what new things it has.
The Oculus Quest 😳
Man, all of the VR videos aged poorly lol
Can anyone help me, all of the icons on my desktop dissapeared and when I go onto the desktop folder it says that my icons are there, pls halp. Windows 10 btw
Right click your desktop, hover over View, and click Show Desktop Icons
omfg, kill me now, I feel like a sped, but thanks for the help
How can this comment post for 3 hours but video just came out for 1 minute
Kirize14 A. the video was private when I commented
Tsunami Scrub How can you access private video deud
The Rift now kicks the Vive's ass in every aspect now except maybe roomscale where you would need to buy an additional sensor. But at $399 or £350 with the Rift + Touch it's an absolute bargain. Even after purchasing another sensor
even with full room. just ordered a whole setup for room size and it was $500 still way cheaper than vive and it seems like everyone says the oculus controllers and headset are better.
Yeah the touch controllers are far better than the vive
The oculus is great
Right now. Yes. Buy an Oculus. 399 for motion controls plus the sensors
That's not bad actually
The only thing vr is good for is watching porn
dont forget to get a Fleshlight with your VR porn. and drugs
lots of drugs...
👌
will said ;)
Exstasy + Fleshlight + Vive = Heaven.
4 years later and it seems as if HTC are dropping consumer VR. Crazy how easily the tides can shift.
I have a rift and I’ve tried the Vive the rift has better graphics and better touch controllers in my opinion I like the rift a lot more
They sold out to Facebook wtf do you expect?
What about now when it costs $550 CAD for the Rift+Touch controllers? Is it worth buying now?
DeltaInsanity yes
Am getting the rift for Christmas
Good choice! :)
Michal Valta already got it. Love it
But oculus is now 399$
I don't have nearly enough money for a high-end VR headset, but I'm super excited for the Vive and I'm very excited to see it thrive.
And people asked me to take off my tinfoil hat when I cancelled my DK2 preorder when it was announce that facebook bought oculus.
Well, that was for a different reason. Luke and the community cancelled due to the vive being better/ less shitty shipping bullshit, etc. You cancelled because a company bought oculus, which is still crazy considering facebook doesn't really tell oculus what to do.
Only a console peasant would support exclusives.
What is the "Valve Time" site pictured at 4:16?
