If they wanted to do something different with the era then they could've chosen the Polish Guerilla fighters during Nazi Occupation, or the Indian Army during the Invasion of Ethiopia against the Italians, and the entire African theater. There's a whole freaking potential story arc in the African Theater waiting to be told, like how the British soldiers were often prejudice against the Indians, but overtime they all got along due to the comradery. Imagine playing as an Indian soldier experiencing some of the prejudice during a small tutorial/bootcamp section where you are tasked with racing to race down an obstacle course against a British soldier. If you win, you get a dopamine hit via an achievement and idk an attaboy. If you lose then you get a "no hard feelings" and a pat on the back.
I would frickin love an Indian Campaign or a Chinese campaign fighting the Japanese in China. There are so many lesser known battles and fronts that are super cool and interesting. COD should be doing that, instead of shoehorning in modern shooter mechanics, weapons and attachments. So much content, so many fresh stories and options for story writing and character development. All COD really needs to be is a good WW2 shooter, that's it. Keep the gimmicky stuff for the modern titles, I want historical accuracy with extreme attention to detail and more battles that aren't D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Stalingrad, etc. Some of my favourite WW2 games are the ones with some lesser known battles, or games that take one of those overly used battles and put some kind of fresh spin on it

WaW was a fairly accurate take on WW2, they even had the Russians and Allies fighting on different fronts. The Japanese had Japanese firearms, the Germans had German firearms, the Russians had Russian firearms, and the Allies had our own. That game came out over a decade ago at this point. Vanguard is such a step back in terms of quality control. The gameplay itself is fine, but to put MODERN SHOOTING STANCES in a WW2 game? The Japanese carrying STG44s? The complete lack of unrealistic behavior from the main character(s)? The CONSTANT need to seem like they're trying to "start a conversation" versus just making a game set in WW2? It's fucking upsetting. Sledgehammer truly doesn't understand how to make a good CoD at this point.
The problem is how fucking "woke" this game is. There are many issues, but I'll name a few. First: You said it yourself. Nothing matches with the time period essentially. (Edit: sorry wrong comment. There is another comment saying how there were like 1944 guns being used in 1942 and other shit like that) Second: There were like no women in WW1 and 2. It's unrealistic. Also, in WaW, there was not a single women present in the game. It portrayed war accurately. (Not trying to sound like an incel, but oh well.) Third: This game literally stole other games' mechanics. You got the focus vision from hitman, and assassin's creed climbing mechanics. Fourth: Back to WaW, there were some racist comments on both sides. Thats how war is, basically dehumanizing the enemies. I'd be surprised if there was even a goddamn swear in this game, let alone racist comments. (Not saying I support racism, I'm saying I want the game to actually be realistic) Although I will say that I enjoyed advanced warfare. I thought the game was fine.
CoD 3 had fantastic historical accuracy, with the exception of the SAS missions. Of course its about a single battle (the Falaise Pocket), but it was pretty impressive for CoD standards
I was mentally prepared to have all authentic representation of WWII butchered. I was prepared for the multiplayer to have goofy-ass guns, I was prepared for the ethnically diverse and modern politic-idealized campaign. But then I saw Japanese soldiers with STG-44s. @@suzuplaza there are plenty of games that do that. Hearts of Iron, Post Scriptum, Hell let Loose, Rising Storm Vietnam, etc. And those games are still more fun than whatever "authentic historical games" AAA studios spit out.
If Cod vanguard wanted to make a unique campaign why didn't they show lesser known battles. I want to play as a Chinese conscript during the battle of the hundred regiments. Or a G.I in monte casino. Or a Desert Rat in Libya.
Or how about a partisan in Greece or Yugoslavia? A stealth mission by Polish resistance delivering something vital? Or one of the OTHER Asian countries dealing with Japanese occupation? Fight through the jungles of Indo China alongside Ho Chi Min? Or the Philippines or with the Indian army?
It's like Sledgehammer and Activision looked at Battlefield V and said, "This is great, let's do that too!" History repeats itself again. The last good WW2 CoD was 2008's World At War, heck even Black Ops 1 had a better WW2 level than Vanguard's entire campaign. Not even gonna bring older WW2 CoDs into this, they'd annihilate Vanguard. Can't believe they actually gave your characters super powers like X-ray vision, bullet time, and aim botting. Lame. Infinite Warfare had the last great campaign. MW Reboot had a few decent levels too. Sledgehammer makes the worst CoDs. Wanna know what's really sad about this soulless corporate AAA game? Having a father figure killed and then the younger character having to avenge them as a loss of innocence thing is a gimmick that has existed forever. MW Campaign does it in a boring "do it 3 times" boss fight with crappy stealth. Last of Us does it with an interesting raid on a camp as Ellie with unique gameplay due to her keeping her knife and a holdout section.
Basically, ripping off is fine so long as you do it in an interesting way.

Wokeness can’t create, only destroy.
Timestamp of the stg?
It was originally meant to be an alt history game but apparently they did not do to good of a job telling people that
The problem is how fucking "woke" this game is. There are many issues, but I'll name a few.
First: You said it yourself. Nothing matches with the time period essentially. (Edit: sorry wrong comment. There is another comment saying how there were like 1944 guns being used in 1942 and other shit like that)
Second: There were like no women in WW1 and 2. It's unrealistic. Also, in WaW, there was not a single women present in the game. It portrayed war accurately. (Not trying to sound like an incel, but oh well.)
Third: This game literally stole other games' mechanics.
(Not saying I support racism, I'm saying I want the game to actually be realistic)
Although I will say that I enjoyed advanced warfare. I thought the game was fine.
CoD 3 had fantastic historical accuracy, with the exception of the SAS missions. Of course its about a single battle (the Falaise Pocket), but it was pretty impressive for CoD standards
