So true!!!! During service on my Mazda 6 (I thought that was a fun car to drive) I asked salesman why Miata's are so pricey(they are a bargain if you like to drive) and he replied "have you ever driven one?" I thought Miata's were just a cute car, no big deal... WRONG. Took a test drive and bought an RF Grand Touring on the spot. Had noooo idea how FUN a Miata is to drive!!!! Now I have to search for a reason to drive my Mazda 6 (actually a very good car with great handling and a joy to drive). Mazda has their s_ _t together!!!!!

So, watching as many reviews as I can on it just to help confirm it's what we want to do (confirmation bias I supposed...), and yours is certainly one of the best produced and informative. No filler nonsense or hyperbole. Thank you!
I tried the MX-5 a few years ago at one of their Driving events and they also had the previous generation to try. I thought the current generation is better than previous.
With the top up, it looks a bit like the ol' Buick Opel (made in Germany) from the 70's; it also resembles a Saab sports car model from the mid-70s. In other words, I LIKE it!
By the way the 2008 NC is a PRHT GT it is basically loaded with leather and the Bose audio. Great car and cost me $10k with 78k miles it was in excellent condition too. This is the only reason to not get a new one! Used models in good condition are amazing values!!!
Amazing automobile, there’s nothing out there that can give you that much of fun and driving reward for so little money. It should be car of the year every year.
I had a 1998 BMW Z3 M Roadster. Loved it. I also had a MGA Roadster and a MG midget. Love them also. I'm hot on getting a Mazda Miata now that I'm retired.

It’s a great alternative to a very expensive Porsche Boxster which stars one $60k.(with no options! ). This car delivers all the fun of a Boxster or Z4 and maybe more... for 1/2 the cost. There are no other cars close to this car for fun and value!
Beautiful car in Beautiful BC ! Enjoyed the review and very focused . Well done . I drove a secondhand RF 155hp and this indeed put a smile on my face though would probably go for the 181hp manual . PS : 'high smileage' , a nice touch that !

@Saroj Marasini its just not fun, with a car that has power levels like this its important to have a manual for fun factor. otherwise its just not as interesting to drive
The car has a girl/gay owner reputation in the USA, BUT I DON'T CARE, the car is a BLAST to driver. Smiles all day, a driver's car for sure. Great review!

Everyone should get it in manual. I learned how to use manual trans in WRX. Had tons of fun. With current manual 500 Abarth, now I am planning to get a manual ND Miata as a daily commuter after test driving it a couple times. . I sit in some traffic on freeway but it won't stop me from getting a manual. Especially how good this manual trans is? Ask no further.
Last year I was ticketed for speeding in my 08 NC Miata! I was going about 55 in a 35mph zone. So it’s so much fun I wasn’t paying attention it felt ok. So I use cruise control now! So you can still get in trouble with a Miata😊👍🏻👮🏽
Got my wife a 2019 RF in the blue that we call Baby Blue. It's a fun car but I couldn't imagine as a sole means of transportation. But it's a hoot to drive.
I bought a 2019 GTS soft top. I was pleasantly surprised at it’s 0-60 speed vs my old NC model. Almost a full second faster. Before I bought it I test drove a Honda TypeR and though the Honda was faster and quicker, it wasn’t as fun to drive.
@Saroj Marasini With the top up it’s not bad at 60 kph at freeway speeds it’s definitely noisy but with Boise speakers in the headrest and some music playing its all good Cuz. I use mine to bomb through the narrow, hilly, twisty back roads near where I live. Did that today on very twisty road and I still have a smile plastered all over my face. For highway cruising though I drive my Lincoln MKZ 3.7.
I absolutely love it and I'd probably get the car just like in the video honestly and the only downside to the car to me is the infotainment center and a tiny bit the cup holders lol but that's it
With sunglasses on, you look like, or at least, you remind me of DU30! I can relate for I own a 2019 Mazda MX-5 RF Grand Touring manual with options like Machine Grey Metallic paint, Auburn Nappa Leather seats and aluminum pedals. I could have gone for the GTS package, with Brembo brakes and Limited Slip Differential and such, but $4,500 more is what stopped me. It's okay. I won't use it for track or autocross and slalom anyway. Just daily drive.
Beautiful car and color. However, I think it needs a well proportioned rear spoiler and a flush wheel and tire package with 3/4” drop to really bring out the body lines. I’m also partial to the meatier 16” wheel size (if they fit with the brakes on this model) in a dark color. That would make this car perfect in my eyes. Hey beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
I'm currently shopping for a 2021 Miata RF GT now and I'm definitely getting polymetal grey. I love that color with the 2-tone red/black interior, but Mazda dropped it for 2021, which is really upsetting. I will never understand why manufacturers always get rid of the features people love! I'll probably go with the black interior because white will definitely look terrible in a few years, especially since this will be my year-round daily driver...in NE Ohio.
@@ophrasbankaccount7716 I purchased a GT soft top and I absolutely loved it! I used the past tense because I sold the car a few months ago for a nice profit, thanks to the ongoing supply shortage. I used to think the MX5 platform was kinda a joke. Slow, no notable style, small... then I bought a 2008 NC for my wife. She got scared of it after a while, whereas I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've driven S2000s, Porsche 986 S (which is the car my wife ended up after no longer wanting the MX5), Solstices, mustangs, firebirds, corvettes, Mercedes SLK.. I will tell you that none of these cars embodies the spirit of the MX5. Some may be faster, some may be more prestigious, some may still be made today whereas the others have fallen, but no car matches the feel of Mazda's roadster. As for the information screen, it's slow on start up. Using it as touchscreen is a drawback, as the rotary dial is what is intended to be used given you can't use touchscreen while driving. Otherwise, its responsive enough during use after it boots. My only complaints with the ND are the weak paint, weak windshield, too small center console (seriously the NC was much larger. This almost seems like a novelty that might store carwash coins and a charger adapter for a passenger).
Thanks for the video. I tested a 1.5 RF as there wasn't a 2.0 available and was impressed with the way it drove and the comfort of the ride but it lacked power so, I ordered the 2.0 litre RF GT with the 17" wheels and Bilsteins. Picked it up a few days ago and I'm disappointed - the ride immediately felt hard and uncomfortable, way stiffer and harsher than the I.5. You say you find the ride in the 2.0 really good and not too hard. Do you think there could be a problem with my car, should I take back to the dealership to get it checked out?
Really? I seriously found the ride very compliant and that’s coming from someone that doesn’t like stiff suspensions. Im assuming tire pressures are all in order?
Thanks for getting back. The tyre pressure is correct. Roads here in UK probably not as smooth as yours but even on a newly resurfaced road it felt harsh. If I press down hard on a wing or try and rock the car, there is hardly any movement.
philip how have things turned out? I too am about to order the same as you have and i've not driven the one with bilstein shocks so its a gamble how did things turn out?
LOL I owned an Austin Healy Sprite as a teen. My dad made me sell it because he was pretty sure it was too dangerous for a teenager. In retrospect, he was probably right. But I think it fired up my love of the Miata. I bought one in 1990 for my wife. I ended up preferring to daily drive the Miata over my Porsche. Daily driven one ever since: NA, NB, and NC. I’ve ordered a 2020 ND, COVID-19 slowing down delivery. Great to hear from someone who owned a Sprite, too. It’s been along time - I’d love to drive one again. But I’m with you, any Miata is probably a better car.
Hard to say, it’s been 5 years since I drove the soft top. Hmmm. Maybe that’s a good reason to get the soft top to try out 😊 I’d imagine that it would be a little quieter.
Yes, I've driven both (own a soft top myself) and the RF is quieter with the roof up. However, with the roof down, I prefer the wind sound in the soft top version, the RF has some annoying wind turbulence close to the ear coming from the roof frame. That and the more open air feeling made me choose the soft top version.
@@hypnotechno I did the Goodwin 1.5 drop 20% stiffer with the factory Bilstiens and their alignment specs. Went with the continental tires and decided the keep the factory BBS wheels because they are silly light. 215/45 on the front and some crazy 245/40’s riding out back on the 7” wheel. I have a guy who knows. He was correct and they are working. It has not seen a fast corner day and most of my driving is in the city. But I can blip a intersection much faster. No sway bars. Has just enough roll to let you know it’s transferred and a super sharp car this light would be twitchy at speed. I came out of a C7 Z51 car. I don’t care what people say I could have outran me in this car but all the fun is there and the number that can get you in trouble never happen. Did the Goodwin race muffler also.
The colour is awesome. I am a vegan, so I would like to see a vegan interior option. Also it would be nice to see a electric miata to be a cheaper alternative to the new Tesla roadster.
Disagree, batteries are too heavy currently. Miata's winning recipe is reduced weight. The lightness let's you dance with the car. Having an engine and transmission is engaging and adds to the fun. (Having said that, I would love to test drive the new tesla roadster!)
@@matthewhanson257 Yes, but in a few years I think we will see some electric MX-5 alternative (the battery capacity doesn't have to be super high in a weekend car like this). Until then I'll stick to my Miata :)
The Club and Sport models use woven nylon fabric seating material. The RECARO seat option is Alcantera (a synthetic suede) in the center, and I think vinyl bolsters, but the bolsters could be leather.
I remember driving that MazdaSpeed years and years ago. I think this new one is more drivable. I remember the turbo one had to be driven quite hard in order to get the performance out of it. Wasn’t as good as a daily driver in my opinion. This one is really good.
The mazdaspeed is dated compared to this. Just a heads up, the ND2 is faster in all aspects versus the Honda S2000. Used to be only the MX5 could beat them in turns and tracks, but now it's about .2 to .5 seconds faster 0 to 60.
Neighbor across the street has one of these new type Miatas and the one to the right of me has an older, more traditional type of Miata and the no brainer choice to me is the old one, I have been looking at this new style for years now almost everyday and I still don't like it, doesn't look right, maybe it just seems too refined to me. Of course the best choice for these types of cars still to this day is the Honda S2000.
I’ll have to admit, everyone I saw one of these on the road I always questioned the styling but after driving it for a week or so, it really grew on me. Maybe it was just so fun to drive that you forgot about how it looked.
Very under exaggerated saying the infotainment is slow to boot up. It's rediculously slow and so irritating. Kia and Hyundais have much better up to date and pleasent to use infotainment systems. Nd owner from Aust.
@@youcanrunnaked yeah but mazda want to charge to apply it to cars that should have had it 5 years ago when you had it standard in Kias and Hyundais. After the service I've received and all the faults with my mazda, I have vowed to never give them another 2 cents. I have even included buying any genuine or OEM parts to my mx5. All replacements have been be third party replacemnts including tyres, wipers. IE Falken tyres instead of Yokohamas etc.
Mia Tand : Sorry your experience has not been good. I have had positive experiences with their products and my dealer’s service department; four new Mazdas in the past five years. Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto is now standard, but yes, Mazda was late to adopt. As one of the few small independent carmakers, Mazda sometimes leads, and sometimes follows. The parts to upgrade are $199, the kit can work with cars back to 2015, and there are lots of DIY tutorials on the internet. The standard infotainment system is not terrible; it has some useful features, and it works. But it’s not great. Tires? Wiper blades? Those are wear items, not made by Mazda. Who buys replacements at a dealer? IDK what “faults” you’ve experienced, but from the limited info you posted, it seems to me you need to find a better service center. As for your car’s infotainment system, specifically, have all software and firmware updates been applied? What operating system number are you using?
@@youcanrunnaked the problems are general build quality and all the documented failures apart from the gearbox self destucting. My roof lining colapsed, rust on both boot hinges, struts failed at 18months, unbeleivable paint issues, interior padded trim colapse, buzzes and rattles everywhere. Panels not aligned and coming apart. I don't see muself paying for android auto as it's the least of my problems. I just don't recommend mazdas and now most of my family have bought Hyundai and Kias. A much better car and they get good aftersales support. Oh amd I tried two other dearlerships and they unbeleivably where just as rude and ignorant.
@@youcanrunnaked, i dunno - i think the torque down low even with the power bump the nd2 gained still makes the 124 spider more fun to drive in city driving. if you can really wind out the nd2's engine, then yeah, the nd2 can be more fun, but for daily driving, the turbo fiat motor is more engaging.
David Sant Jordi Coronel : I don’t care for the turbo lag. The 124’s shove of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm is nice. It’s also a lot cheaper to modify the 124 engine for more power. When I drove the 124 in traffic, I found I had to be extra careful to keep the engine on boost. Not my thing. I’d rather wind out an engine with good power from off-idle to a 7,500 rpm redline. But I get that the 124 is fun. It has a better exhaust note, too.
Fiat did a okay job. I would love to see a partnership with Hyundai and basically get a Miata built by the N Division. Imagine this with the 275HP engine from the Veloster N.
@@jamesmartone1901 I don't agree but I understand you are a mazda fan... price for price, there is no question in my mind... way more refined, more performance, better sound proofing, better comfort, better tech... in any company there are lemons and reliability issues including mazda...

Thanks for getting back. The tyre pressure is correct. Roads here in UK probably not as smooth as yours but even on a newly resurfaced road it felt harsh. If I press down hard on a wing or try and rock the car, there is hardly any movement.
Philip Roberts the 2.0 does indeed have stiffer suspension. It’s not necessarily better or worse, just different.
I think the 1.5l suits the soft top better .
philip how have things turned out? I too am about to order the same as you have and i've not driven the one with bilstein shocks so its a gamble how did things turn out?
No one drives a Miata for the infotainment system. Yawn.
Great for an old fart, beats an old austin Healy Sprite
🤗
Wow, such a legacy icon. I can’t wait to join the band wagon. On the mx5 of course.
It amazes me that you have to mention getting a manual gearbox!
If you want an automatic then your looking at the wrong car
The extra antenna adds 4 whp
Is that 92 Ave in Surrey ? I live close by. Where are those twisty roads?
Is the RF quieter on the highway, with its roof up compared to the soft top?
Hard to say, it’s been 5 years since I drove the soft top. Hmmm. Maybe that’s a good reason to get the soft top to try out 😊 I’d imagine that it would be a little quieter.
Yes, I've driven both (own a soft top myself) and the RF is quieter with the roof up. However, with the roof down, I prefer the wind sound in the soft top version, the RF has some annoying wind turbulence close to the ear coming from the roof frame. That and the more open air feeling made me choose the soft top version.
Quieter with top up or down than the soft top. The only time its annoying with top down is in crosswinds, which the softop also suffers.

"There isnt a glove compartment..." 10 second later "there is a lockable glove compartment" also, they have a 2nd cubby behind the passenger seat
I meant no traditional glove compartment in front of the passenger.
Love the car but…it’s getting new springs to take out about 70% of the body roll. It’s a preference thing.
yes, look at Philip above he found it too stiff
@@hypnotechno
I did the springs, love it.
@@tomwinner5350 nice. Bilstein? Or something else
@@hypnotechno
I did the Goodwin 1.5 drop 20% stiffer with the factory Bilstiens and their alignment specs.
That wheel gap! OMG! 4x4!
10X better than a Mini-Cooper even the the Mini-Cooper may be more fun to drive.
Wish I could get that interior color with polymetal grey on the soft top
Love the polymetal grey.
+1
That how accident hapen illégal U Turn. Bad boy
I don’t see this trim available on the Mazda site. Is this Canada? Australia? I’m USA.
Oh, duh. BC. So yeah, question remains, is this trim combo Canada only? :-(
The colour is awesome.
@@youcanrunnaked good info. Never knew that.
@@jeffhildreth9244 : The RECARO seats in the ND are Alcantera.
Was there a lot of wind buffeting, you had the windows up the entire time?
Windows always up when recording audio. Even the slightest wind will give you opus of noise with the mics. Wind was fine with windows down.
@@EverydayReviews2022TY Sir!
How would you compare a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata (factory turbo charged engine) to this MX5 RF?
I remember driving that MazdaSpeed years and years ago. I think this new one is more drivable. I remember the turbo one had to be driven quite hard in order to get the performance out of it. Wasn’t as good as a daily driver in my opinion. This one is really good.
Everyday Reviews thanks For reply! Keep up the great work!
I’ve driven both and the ND2 has the better engine and the better chassis.
The mazdaspeed is dated compared to this. Just a heads up, the ND2 is faster in all aspects versus the Honda S2000. Used to be only the MX5 could beat them in turns and tracks, but now it's about .2 to .5 seconds faster 0 to 60.
What's better for open air motoring? Soft top or hard?
I’d say soft. More wind noise with the rf and less of a feeling of being open to the air.
@@mr.y.mysterious.video1 thanks!😆
Neighbor across the street has one of these new type Miatas and the one to the right of me has an older, more traditional type of Miata and the no brainer choice to me is the old one, I have been looking at this new style for years now almost everyday and I still don't like it, doesn't look right, maybe it just seems too refined to me. Of course the best choice for these types of cars still to this day is the Honda S2000.
I’ll have to admit, everyone I saw one of these on the road I always questioned the styling but after driving it for a week or so, it really grew on me. Maybe it was just so fun to drive that you forgot about how it looked.
@@EverydayReviews2022 That's the problem, it's too nice, to me a Miata should be kind of rough, like a nice kit car, the RF is just too Z4 for me. lol
ND2 > S2000
Very under exaggerated saying the infotainment is slow to boot up. It's rediculously slow and so irritating. Kia and Hyundais have much better up to date and pleasent to use infotainment systems. Nd owner from Aust.
Apple CarPlay fixes the problem.
Oh amd I tried two other dearlerships and they unbeleivably where just as rude and ignorant.
i think its cousin, the fiat 124 spider, is more fun to drive than the mx-5, although they are pretty close.
ND1 vs 124 is close. ND2 vs 124 is not close.
“Targa top” is trademarked by Porsche so Mazda couldn’t name it as such.

Not a lot of HP, or torque. It needs another 100HP. This is coming from a guy that to date has owned 4 of them. Otherwise, it's a great little roadster and you're missing out if you haven't driven one.
How about adding an aftermarket supercharger?
