Great review. Can't help but notice the "backroads" in Arizona are in great shape. Once you leave the safety of your driveway, it's going to cost you some big bucks at the dentist or tire shop. Four wheelin' out here is simply pointing your car toward U.S. 101 and hanging on for dear life. Also, I absolutely hate it when there is an insect flying around inside the car. It drives me crazy.

I'm glad those upper door panels are painted, so much better than plastic or vinyl. My rx7 vinyl cracked and that happened to most rx7s. If you had a stick you could have really enjoyed some autocross, provided the brakes didn't fade. By the way my friends would hire you in a second if you wanted to sell cars
I had a t-top and it was a pain taking it on and off this seems like a great idea and it looks great . Better than a convertible because it should be quiet when its buttoned up.. Im 6'3" so i dont fit its like when you tried with the seat up so not for me but if i was normal size i would look at one .
I'm 6 ft 4 and 250lbs .. and if you adjust the seat correctly you have leg room and head room .. My father is 5 ft 10 and he couldn't even reach the pedals... Everyones jumping on the wagon saying they wont fit..in reality the driver position has a decent amount of space if its adjusted correctly
Shorter final drive, but much taller in every gear. That 6 speed manual doesn't even have an overdriven gear, which is crazy with today's efficiency standards. Automatics have their place, at least this one did a decent job banging through the gears. Glad you got some help with this one, I didn't notice any issues with Kyla's camera work, nice job to the both of you.
Typically a rear drive transmission will have a fourth or fifth gear that's one-to-one and then the top gear will be an overdrive but the problem with that is that the the one-to-one gear is the most efficient gear in the transmission, all you're doing is you're hooking the input shaft in the output shaft together, so you don't actually send torque through any of the gears. So if that's the most efficient gear obviously that should be the one that should be used when you're cruising on the freeway trying to get good fuel economy. Mazda's engineers built the ND with a one-to-one sixth gear and then had to make the final Drive much taller so that the total gearing when you multiply the the primary gear ratio times the final gear ratio would be appropriate for the car.
It doesn't matter much where the torque multiplication occurs, the loss from it is the same when viewing the entire package. A 1:1 gear in a transmission still has gearing, there is still a frictional loss associated with that, I don't know of any modern manuals that aren't a constant mesh design. Since most drivetrain loss is frictional, what gearing is where, doesn't make much difference. That said, yes, power flow does go through a driveshaft which does have weight, spinning it slower at a given wheel speed will have a slight net efficiency gain. As far as why a sports car has an overdriven gear, well, pretty much all of them do, most have 2, some 3. The only other car I can think of with at least 5 gears that has a 1:1 top gear goes back 20 years to the E36 M3, there probably are a few others, but it's far from normal. Shit, all previous generation Miatas, even the older 5 speeds, had an overdriven gear, as does the 6 speed that is in the 124.
@@Dave-fx5zw Your definition of overdrive is not the definition being used by OP. The context that is being used would be over-geared, at least that's the way I interpreted it. Also, the 6 speed in the 124 is the NC Miata 6 speed.
Looks nice! Glad you found another person to help out. I have never understood.though why they dont offer a higher end trim with more power and/or a turbo. I also dont understand the current asking price. It seems like it shouldn't be more than 25k. I kinda get they are going for a car that you can actually use all the power it has and throw it around safely.......but I dunno everyone claims how much they miss the S2000.....to me it seems like Mazda could snag that audience by just adding a turbo. How much power do you think the car could handle before it starts to drive like a different animal? For me though it might not matter. I'm 6 ft 2 so seeing you get in it......yea I get kinda claustrophobic just looking at it. Standing near one of the older ones it seems like i would be able to lift it off the ground by myself. I'm looking at the new Mazda3 pretty hard though for real.

The Miata is first and foremost a sports car. Why would the manual transmission have an overdrive gear?
I think some Vipers have 1:1 4th and then 2 overdrive gears. It can't even reach its top speed in 6th gear from what I've read.
What is the color of this car? I saw one in person yesterday and fell in love!
What cars have achieved 3 Beans or more?
We literally have all the same hobbies. Loving the scotty and pumphrey refs.
"Hi I'm scotty kilmer daughter" XD you made my day XD
The popping out of the boot sketch ...that was just soooo weird ...crying with laughter ...
I'll be buying the 2021 in deep crystal blue ,cant wait !
I always enjoy the faces you pull when you do your brake test! Pretty car though (aside from auto trans)
