That was especially sad because at that point Diego was trying to emphasize how much he loved being on a team with all of them. "Team Zero" after years of being a lone ranger, he was finally embracing his siblings. In the elevator afterwards he sarcastically thanks them for having his back. :/ I understand how siblings may blame each other for the parent's sins in abuse situations and that was a very clear example. At the same time I wish they all could learn how to stand against their father as siblings and individuals. I'm so excited for season 3 because that will clearly be a main conflict

For real! That made me so angry for Ben. Especially when Ben was trying to tell them all he missed them and klaus was just being a selfish asshole. It actually broke my heart for Be and made me kinda hate Klaus
I didn’t like the show making their relationship this season, so antagonistic. I got used to Ben being the one who understands klaus.
I know, me too! While it's perfectly in character for Klaus to deny Ben's existence to his siblings just to screw with him, it was only funny the first time, and got old quickly.🙄
Plus, in the bar scene, Klaus could conjure up Ben easily, but this ability was ignored for the rest of the season.
Yeah, I just didn't understand why he kept it from the others when Ben clearly wanted to be seen.
Klaus thought he was to blame for Ben being stuck on earth as a ghost, maybe he didn't want the others to find out given that they already don't respect him very much.

The best scene was of Allison, Klaus and Vanya bonding and dancing in the salon. Also, they FINALLY nipped the weird Luther/Allison romance in the bud by pointing out that it was weird that they had to say that it "technically" wasn't incest! 😂

It was so effective how they shot that death scene and showed that written on the ground, I knew IMMEDIATELY what it said via context clues alone. Great writing.
Luther and Diego sharing a single brain cell this season was one of my favorite things about this season
Poor Luther must've lost half his brainpower during the teleport at the beginning of S2. But he pumped all of it into his interactions with Allison, which I really appreciate. He was so understanding and accepting.

Season 2 is way better than season 1, seeing the family bonding and Vanya being happy and connecting with her siblings made me very happy

Me too, even though I'm not the biggest advocate of amnesia plots, I found it a sweet touch that Vanya was able to reunite with her family without the pent up frustrations and resentment of the previous season holding her back. 💕
I think it could be worth looking at season one and two as just one season. Then you have the conflict and resolution all in one instead of it feeling more spaced out.

When I first saw that scene I thought it was probably a cool lead up to the whole massacre because he can't just jump in and kill them and out :))) because obviously netflix knew everything we wanted (EXCEPT THAT HUG FIVE STILL HASNT GOT) and they knew we were all looking for the gazelle moment.
But the thing was, they didn't establish much of that feral part of Five in season 1. So, yea, I think it made it feels more in character and not like a random spurt of homicide in his teenage body.
Obviously, the character analysation's not that, but I'm not very smart so Imma just wait for someone to do it and then gush over it :))
the one thing i really loved this season was how they developed Allison's character... wasn't the biggest fan of her in season 1 but they made her sooo likeable here i loved her
I still liked her a lot in S1 but she REALLY flourishes here
Totally, I adored Allison in Season 1, but her character development this season REALLY shone through, since she learned to legitimately work for what she had, and found a loving husband in Ray, whom she didn't have to rumour into loving her.💖💘👫

I think it also did a really good job in showing her lack of self control when it comes to her power. Because like in season 1 I was constantly frustrated with her for not using them but like after the coffee pot fiasco (and like he deserved it but still ray knew it would just hurt the movement) I understood that like she literally has no self control when it comes to using her powers for selfish wants
a little detail i love is that in Dave's last scene, the guy that hurries him to get on the bus calls him "marine", meaning that even though he ended up enlisting earlier, he enlisted in the marine instead of the army.

Yeah same but I'm going to use this comment to share a theory. What if it wasn’t Vanya that made him die/disappear but a lack of the world ending (and thus Harlan not dying: think to his correlation of a sparrow toy and the Sparrow academy) that made this version of Ben disappear because we now see him with the Sparrow Academy meaning he never had the chance to die and be with Klaus because he wasn't with the Umbrella Academy. So maybe he didn't die because of Vanya but was being corrected into the right timeline.
I thought the farmers husband was a well done character. He was a good man for the times, but an antagonist to Vanya. His actions were measured and restrained, which isn't the norm for characters like him. He didn't hit his wife or his son, and he pretty much ASKED Vanya to leave (A few homophobic threats sprinkled in). I was genuinely surprised.

@@DeathnoteBB yeah but the Umbrella academy changed the timeline. Reggie could adopt Lila as a baby given that this Lila was taken as a toddler by the Handler but then again her parents would have to give her up to Reggie which they didn't do the first time around. They kept Lila and raised her with love so I think it's more likely that Lila will come back as a Wild card. Really excited to see who are the Sparrow academy aside from Ben and how different they are.
I also think that the loss of Grace contributes to the Sparrow Academy and the way that Reggie snapped. Originally, she didn't know about the Kennedy shit and she didn't leave him, I believe she died when she was with him and he allowed her to live on through basing a robot off of her. Diego warned her about Reggie and made her leave him, which was probably his breaking point.
I thought it was possible he still has the same kids but they were born later so they are younger and since they didn't have pogo and their mom they are perfect soldiers.
I did wonder why he wouldn't adopt Five though. I mean, no hate towards the others, but when Five and Reggie talked in private after the supper they seemed to be pretty chill. But eh, maybe i just missed sth and am kinda stupid rn lol

Speaking of Until Dawn, when I watched the series the second time I watched it in German (cuz i live in Germany duh-) and Luther's voice actor was the same as Josh's voice actor in Until Dawn. It made me go full 👁👄👁 when "the butterfly effect" was said that one time.

I really liked the season, but I most definitely didn't like how the show kinda brushed the whole "Vanya's so hurt and angry she ended the world" bit aside. I really wanted to see the academy genuinely deal with that and work trough it.
Yes ! I rewatched season 1 before going into season 2 and that made the whole season feel so disconnected (even tho i loved it).
I agree, I know that they had their own issues to muddle through and deal with, but it's almost as though it was an afterthought, of sorts. Ultimately, Vanya has to deal with the SECOND apocalypse that she almost caused, and couldn't really acknowledge the consequences of the first. 😞
Yeah same, especially since that was the set-up at the end of Season 1... I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt the Season 2 felt weirdly disconnected from the first season
@Jam Drew No, I completely disagree. She only destroyed the world because almost everyone around her was toxic and abusive, and those that weren't didn't have the balls to stand up to the abusers and help her. Pogo had it coming and Luther wasn't far off.
It's not like she was rational and thought "ah yes, I WANT to destroy the world and kil everyone", she just wanted to spite her family, and she didn't know the consequences of doing that. I don't think she'd want to kill random people deliberately, even in the state she was in.
Also, I hate how the show gave half the academy the excuse of still being assholes to her, only for them to "redeem" themselves in the end.

This season made me so excited as a history buff, the way they wove in actual history with the story is fantastic, especially (spoilers?)

Did anyone else feel as though Klaus and Ben were done dirty this season? They seemed to be extra catty towards each other, with Klaus not letting Ben speak to his siblings, and Ben forcibly possessing Klaus.
Plus, Klaus never got to deal with Ben's second death, as he was never really gone to him, with is a shame. 💔
I didn’t like how Klaus ignored Ben’s request to communicate with his family and denied he was there. They showed Klaus kinda processing the emptiness for a few minutes of screen time before he got in the car with Vanya. Then it all went so fast. I think they will all be dealing with their losses in season 3.
I think the writers were going for sibling banter between ben and klaus, but it honestly just felt like they hated each other to me
@@anna-cx7xs I did not see it like that. More like they were annoyed with each other. Ben was annoyed with Klaus' life choices and wanted things of his own but could only experience things because of Klaus and Klaus was was annoyed with Ben because he was trying to force him to do things he did not want to and was being very critical with him and biting with his words. I think Klaus ignored Ben's requests because he was annoyed with him initially but he might have taken for granted that Ben was always with him so it didn't matter for now. Like, he was punishing Ben temporarily by denying him that but he did not expect that there would be no other time for Ben to communicate with them. Like, he was so used to having Ben with him that he was probably like "Eat that, Ben" but probably thought he would allow him later.

@@fictionlover2064 I think that's totally true. In the first season it's just Klaus and Ben, and then Klaus and Ben back in time, and THEN Klaus and Ben back in 2019. In season two they spent a few years in the past without running into any of the siblings, and they may have given up seeing them again. To the two of them, that week in 2019 when they tried to stop the apocalypse was such a short time. I think Klaus really did take his company for granted and maybe the both of them were frustrated living in the past together yet again with no idea how to get back home. It's kind of understandable how tense they feel. Really sad they didn't have a proper goodbye.
Harlan’s toy is a *sparrow* and has powers “before” everyone else (cuz time travel) Reggie is on his quest to get powered kids and names it the *sparrow* academy coincidence? I think not

i like how they gave luther an actual character, other than 'hE seNt Me To tHe mOon'. He reconciled with vanya, killed of the allison romance, and dialed down the contollignness. THey still retained his core personality traits, but making them more desirable

I would argue they actually stole his character from him, but his character sucked so I'm glad. He was basically a walking comic relief doofus, which actually suits him much better. His daddy issues were boring and lame

I mean being fair Luther in s1 might have had his faults but it’s likely due to needing to build up and distinguish the trauma each experience and how each was different. S1 Luther has his faults, it can’t be denied but it’s important to recall Luther never escaped the abuse in the same way others did. Life saving of not Reggie destroyed Luther’s body in a way that clearly caused extreme dysmorphia that truly hurts him, he was given expectations and trust in his father that were never acknowledge even to the family I think with the position of number 1, and when Reggie saw his as too much to handle literally sent him away for 4 years of complete isolation with not even a check up. Luther put so much faith that one day something would change with his father, that everything he sacrificed and suffered would be enough but it never was and that’s where season 2 picks up. How broken Luther is now learning that everything was him being used, so while he had his faults in s1 he never could have grown I think until he reached that peak to fall rock bottom even beginning to take the responsibly for being seen as number 1 and failing his siblings while still keeping those keep traits.
also another thing i appreciated was the lgbtq+ representation and how normal it is when brought up it’s not made into a huge deal when Vanya talks about her sudden love for a girl and the same for Klaus it’s just “oh they love someone of the same gender ok cool “ their family supports them it isn’t a huge deal that they like the sane gender cuz that’s their sibling as someone who is lesbian in a conservative state it was nice seeing it so normalized in shows with gay characters it’s usually a huge deal and a huge part of their identity which it is but it’s nice to see it be a minor point in a larger plot i hope that makes sense lol

Yes please! The audience kind of knew nothing about the Swedes (hell, the subtitles didn't even use their names as far as I'm aware), so it would be really interesting to learn more about them especially since I, personally, really loved the scenes they were in
I still can’t imagine what this must have been like for Harlan. The powers must have been so overwhelming for any young person, but especially for someone (likely) on the spectrum.
I feel like they forgoed some of Klaus’ development in favour of meme-ifying him more. Yeah he was the breakout hit from the last season, but making him constantly spew sass and gifable one liners (read dramatic moment when both of his siblings may have died in the penultimate episode) detracted from the rounded character they set out at the beginning
I completely concur with you on this count! 😍 They were trying to make Klaus' story funny, that they almost pushed him to the wayside, and made him the comic relief again. The whole "forced possession" storyline with Ben felt uncomfortable, and the siblings apparently watch Klaus have a seizure at dinner, and dismiss it as "Klaus just being Klaus".
Plus, Klaus has to cope with losing both Dave and Ben, with him apparently not receiving closure with Ben before his second death. 😢💔
I personally think that his reactions and actions were realistic to his character for arriving in the 1960s alone and with no support (except Ben, of course). But I agree with you about the one-liners!

the handlers comments towards number 5, if gender reversed would be very unsettling. How many times she comments about him 'filling out his pants' well, it was multiple times and just as creepy each time.

Such an improvement on season 1. The whole thing is just so comfy feeling, with the siblings feeling more like siblings.
Season two of Umbrella Academy was so good it returned my will to live during the pandemic.
I loved season 2 so much! Just kept thinking about how for Five, this has been just a very stressful three weeks, whereas the others have all had at least some time for growth and change. Also, Allison having to silently grieve Claire - and then instantly wanting to go to her when they get back to 2019, only to realise that it's a different timeline so... Claire may not exist?! I just 😱😱😱
I really want to see Number Five being able to relax and deal with his issues. These whole two seasons have been him constantly rushing to do things and fix things and research and complete goals and he has had no time to deal with all this!!! I hope we get that in Season 3. And I want to see how Klaus deals with no Ben advising him and trying to help him.

Glad to see this- I’ve seen nothing but negativity from online publications about season 2, but I thought it was great. The only thing I would change is letting Gerard Way putting more than one of his songs in a season.
I’ve been obsessed with this since it dropped last weekend and have not read anything negative. As far as I can tell, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Gerard has added one song per season. He’ll likely add one to season 3 as well.
Zophiela from actual people I’ve only heard good things, but every time I open up google on my phone the preview stories are columnists complaining about how season 2 didn’t make sense. Probably the types who should be writing about stuff like Young Sheldon instead.

Why are Diego and Lila completely socially accepted in the 60s? Are the writers not aware that racism wasn’t exclusively aimed at black people? Hispanic and all foreigners got it just as bad yet Diego and Lila were always fine and literally never faced discrimination in the 60s.
The only thing that i can't take of the season is luther and im not talking about his character im talking about his powers at the start of the season he takes the shoot from a tank to back and he's just smileing then he he gets KO by some random guy, he gets KO by the fire extinguisher and kill by a asult rifle. I mean c'mon.
@Trash Goblin even so, it's OK if they want to change a bit of the powers or the magnitude of them for the series, but they got at least keep it consistent within the series. The thing with the fire extinguisher is just BS imo
None of their powers are well-defined. And that's part of the charm of the messiness of the show
Well... in that timeline, all of them probably had been fighting constantly until Five showed up, fighting like that and doing the best to stay alive could have helped them, including Luther, develop their skills. He could take the shoot because he's better at using his ability.
But the Luther in ss2 timeline only fought for show, and with normal people, bare hands and all. He didn't really need to use his full "power" but just a little bit strength. Not to mention, I think he has to intentionally "activate" it(?), if didn't, he's just bigger and stronger than normal person, nothing special.
It's just like how in the first episode Klaus could summon physical ghosts, Diego could change bullets direction... , but not until the last episode that they could do it again, and only because their lives were on the line.

I keep hearing people say "Reginald designs a robot based on the actual Grace!" But am I the only one who's 95% sure Reginald somehow turned human Grace into a robot and forced her into the immortal subservient wife/mother role (Black Mirror/Get Out takeover stuff)??? He was super threatening to her when she asked him his sketchy documents, and it's not exactly like he's a good person who cares about others' autonomy. The moments of clarity Grace seems to get in her eyes sometimes make me think so.
I have wondered if he transplanted her brain into a robot body or something. When she found his papers and things, I was sure he was going to kill her right then. I'm very curious to know what the whole story is behind Grace.

I don't think so... I feel like if "mom" was the actual grace he wouldn't treat her so badly, but the robot is a reminder of who he lost and that's why he's being so horrible to her..but I can be wrong
Yeah but in the "original" timeline of s1, Grace never found about his envolvement with Kennedy, because here it's Diego who told her to make some research about Reginald. So he couldn't have turned her into a robot because she found that out.
I think Reginald just can be emotional at times. But I'm not ruling out the possibility that he actually turned her into a robot and she is not just built into the image of Grace.
I disagree, Reggie is not a monster, just extremely cold-hearted. I think he realized humans were unreliable and the babies needed a mother so he just chose to model her after his one love. I didn't see him threatening her at all, he was just like, bitch we talked about this, you know I'm sketch af, so trust me please?

I think honestly it’s more than that because I truly don’t think season 1 Viktor arc, despite being romance, was about romance. It was about wanting love and attention anywhere you can find it red flags or not. It was about comfort in times of desperation when you truly feel at rock bottom. Leonard didn’t love Viktor, he saw Viktor as a tool to use for his own selfish desires with love being the easier way to get that out of someone who Leonard probably knew was vulnerable. Viktor didn’t love Leonard either, he loved the attention, the reassurance, and the I’ll say likely being able to use it against his family as was really push Viktor more toward Leonard is how Allison, someone who has everything thinks something is wrong when Viktor just is getting attention. + I assume the whole Allison calling Viktor out about his lack of romance didn’t help and Viktor wanted to prove Allison wrong that he could maintain a relationship.
This storyline in the season does show really the first time Viktor as a character gets to live life. Without the family shadow, without the self hatred, without feeling like his life is already set. He gets to develop real emotions for the first time off of his medication and live a life that he can find romance and happiness. I don’t think first season was to necessarily shoehorn in a male love interest, it was to adapt a one of the comic book characters (who also was a man) into pointing out the way aspects of Viktor’s traumas at the time was guiding him into similar his siblings, unhealthy choices.

For me, season 1 was about everything which can go wrong in traumatic circumstances, while season 2 - what comes out right in these circumstances
I just love imagining how much that actor that does 5 loves his gig. Most actors his age get stuck doing roles like 'awkward tween love interest' or 'sad boy' or 'divorced child plot moppet' and he's like 'I get to be a badass to dope music and swing an axe around'. Just love it lol
It greatly annoyed me that Allison didn't tell her husband about her powers. Especially when he got mad at her because he thought she was a covert government agent.
It makes sense but I’m glad his anger at her was short lived
I really like this season. However, I really missed fun scenes like "I think we're alone now" and "dancing in the moonlight" ones. To be honest, that whole episode that has "dancing in the moonlight" in it, is still my favorite episode in the show. Second season is great, but it lacks that random, charming, fun that first season had.
I agree, they obviously wanted to repeat the magic of those scenes with the hair dressers scene, and the stylistic ultra violence with Five's execution scene and the Swedes, but still, the ones in the first season were better. Overall, it was a strong season, though.
Emmuzka Yeah all the music scenes felt so forced. Some were really cool, but it felt like there was one per episode! After a few episodes I just got bored, like “Okay, I get it, the dance and musical fight scenes were crazy popular last season so you did it again.”
Maybe I’m just not critical enough but I actually loved S2 because I thought it had a less serious/more fun vibe
I never even finished season 1 because they retconned my favorite episode. As soon as they erased the episode that was easily my favorite to that point, I lost all forward momentum.
But season 2 looked so good so I jumped back in. And season 2, so far, hasn't disappointed. It's been great.

The scene in the hair salon with Klaus, Vanya and Allison was just the sweetest and I've rewatched it many times. Also they said in an interview they had an actual choreography for the dance but dropped it and just went ahead being silly because it felt more natural and that was a great choice
Only downside to me was Diego. I don't remember him being a raging moron in the first season. He got on my last nerve this one. I will admit I did feel really bad for him when their father shut him down and he started stuttering again. Other than that 2 thumbs up, better than season 1, can't wait for season 3.

Wow I had totally the opposite reaction. I wasn't a huge fan in the first season, but second season made me love him BECAUSE he's a bit of a moron. Made his personality more interesting and loveable to me. And his relationship with Lila was the first ship I've cared about in this show.

For me Five's "I'm the daddy here!" line and Diego's "I made that machine my bitch!" were my favourite lines of the show.
I enjoyed this season even more than season 1. I thought it'd be impossible but here we are.
Yeah this show was definitely hit and miss. 99% Hit and 1% Miss, but even this Misses grazed the ball. Like I can understand how people grow from start to finish and majority of the characters are done well. The hero complex of Diego is a bit annoying as it jut feels like he’s trying to pull the story away to his thing. The girl who was planted there as a spy was a bit obvious for me from the start when she could fight properly so that wasn’t as impactful, especially since I knew she’d most likely change sides. But besides those little nit picks the show was great. 5s whole story here was done well, he grew his powers as he can do slight time travel now. Klaus as ok with his cult stuff, I wasn’t as surprised that he started a cult and then wanted to leave. Bens emotions about the entire thing was understandable as he just wanted to see everyone get better and go home, and helped Vanya with her emotions. Luther was probably the weakest of the stories I think but it’s still very good I think they should of given him more or something different than working in an underground fighting pit. Allison was understandable as she was fighting in the Black Lives Matter movement as this is something she would do, and the love between her and her husband felt real. Sir Reginald was acted quite well as I loved how he was acting due to being accosted by these guys. They’re all shocked about why he would harm them and it’s like he didn’t know them at all and they snuck into his business. All in all I would give it 9.5/10 some little things could be tweaked but besides from that I enjoyed it whole heartedly. Good music choices again during fights, fight choreography was amazing as I was so engaged during it. Also can I say that this was an amazing video made by you
I think Diego’s hero complex is meant to be annoying, because it’s a genuine mental problem caused by childhood trauma and that’s often how it is. He definitely hasn’t been able to let go of that as well as some of the others, I think he honestly just needs a good therapy session loll

I liked it a lot but I felt it was missing something, and after talking to my friend the thing we missed most was hazel and chacha relationship. I know why they couldn't show up but the show lacked a fun dynamic like theirs everyone else had some really heavy stories. But overall I loved it
Yes, the Swedes were nothing to them. Thankfully we got the "gerbil man" to present the causality guarding people as something else than all just blank slates.

YES! The Swedes were so lame, like essentially walking robots until the first brother died, and then they were just conflicted robots and vengeful robots. Hazel was my favorite character from season 1, I felt he was the most interesting and the coolest, he saw all of space and time and just wanted to fall in love with a weird doughnut lady. I JUST watched season 2 and I'm already forgetting the Swedes were part of it

Apparently, her being or not being bisexual is big point of contention for some fans. They feel that the Leonard thing was just compulsory heterosexuality and not calling Vanya is lesbian is wrong.
(Well, stronger words than "wrong" are used but, ya know...)
I mean, as a lesbian myself, I do get that. But i feel like calling her a lesbian for sure could come across as bi erasure. I guess it's really up for interpretation at this point though
Laura Martin-Falla that! Also he was the first person to treat her “nicely”. Like her family treated her like an outcast her whole life and she didn’t know why. Suddenly someone comes along and likes and embraces all of her, and It made sense that holds on to that. From her perspective, Leonard is the one good thing in her life outside of music.

Even if he had been just a sweet guy, it went REALLY fast. Was she attracted to him at all? To any men? Did she feel compelled to do anything because of comphet or was she just happy someone was interessted in her?
The relationship with Sissy happened organically and without manipulation. Vanya is a woman who loves women. But, when it comes to men, I feel like there is a "lack of data" one way or another and it makes me reluctant to label her one way or the other. (Note: I am not invested in either over the other, even if it seems like I am arguing for bisexuality. Canon says lesbian? Lesbian it is!)

I think I know why ben and klaus were acting so catty towards each other. Klaus spent the entirety of last season trying to do better and Ben was really happy to see that, but the minute they landed in the 60s Klaus went back to not caring a bit, and I think that broke Ben's heart a bit, so he lashed out at Klaus constantly

loved this season even more than the first one. I wished for Sissy to get into the future with Vanja, both for the sake of their relationship, her personal safety and because Harlands life could have been much easier with the help of modern medicine and knowledge
