9:24 this is why I watch the majors on GOTV, the microphone quailty is different from the twitch broadcast and not only it feels more nostalgic but also you hear better the crowd
you could say a couple words on the paris major though. wild crowd, sadly no amazing games in playoffs. all the big teams except vitality choking.. but great major.
W picks. boston 2018 and eleague 2017 are easily the best imo. even though as a vp fan, it hurts to watch eleague 2017, all 3 maps were bangers and were actually close.
My Favourite series of CounterStrike ever was that Astralis vs Gambit semi in Krakow. Especially considering this was an Astralis that had systematically removed SK’s permission to play the game the day prior. Gambit also coming off of an Upset over Fnatic as well. And then there’s the Series itself. My all time favourite. Id also Argue that Krakow was a relief Major for Zeus as well as he had lost both of his CSGO grand final affairs in a One sided manner. The Katowice 2018 Final is my second favourite series, simply because Flusha does the impossible like 3 separate times. Favourite player ever.
the only thing i remember about berlin is that it was liquids to win, but for some reason allowed vertigo in the veto ran into some insane prep and lost
TheWarOwl actually made a specific video just for that. He boldly titled it, “The Greatest Counter Play in the History of Counter-Strike” The main reason being that Liquid had a 100% win rate on Vertigo, followed by Astralis purposely picking it during the map pick/ban phase. Team Liquid was confused, the casters were shocked, the crowd was amazed. And then Astralis won 2-0.
yo lau, have you ever thought about making a series of videos ranking different role players? like for example, tierlists of the best AWPers in the CS:GO era, the best riflers, etc etc. could be fun
I feel like the last truly great major, an A or above, was Boston. Though I could be biased because I am from NA and it was the first major I have ever watched live. Almost all of the finals have been 2-0 with three of those being a complete blowout. It is not fun to watch a major when the final isn't close.
I always thought older tournaments sounded better, yeah the sound of the casting is of technically lesser quality but now even in playoff matches in arenas it sounds like a studio match
I still remeber Atlanta, I was so happy about first half of Train. But when i saw beginning of Astralis' comeback i felt that it will get bad. My VP heart broke that time.
Its sad to not being able to put Rio at S tier. Its the first time that I traveled outside my state and got to attend a major but the ticket selling service was so ass that a lot of the tickets sold probably were to bots and a lot of fans gave up going after the initial sale fiasco. It was amazing watch Furia knock out Navi but yeah, happy for Jame but that finals aint it
In my opinion Blast Major was one of the worst major i have ever experienced, the games were not even interesting in champions stage. Every tier 1 team except vitality underperformed and the final was one of the worst matches I’ve ever watched
worst match in terms of not being particularly close? Eh was always gonna happen when all but one tier 1 team completely shit the bed. But far far from a terrible match. But the games were absolutely interesting unless you only care about faze g2 or navi.
@@__Nicholas__I’m from NA so I can’t say I’m unbiased, but come on, even just talking about the final, that was an extremely exciting and back and forth match. The best of the best vs the Summer Boys.
Kato 2019 is such an underrated major. I think it is just proof that judging a whole tournament based on just the finals is dumb. The games leading up were great. The storylines for both ENCE and Astralis were fantastic, the stadium and the production were amazing, the speech is the most memorable major speech we've ever had and Pasha's trophy delivery is still amazing.
pasha actually said that after the final was over, they asked gla1ve how Astralis managed to come back on the T side of Train and gla1ve told them that it was so loud in the stage that they were just rushing because they couldn't really hear much
Stockholm B? Nah dude you're telling me you didn't see how navi literally beat all the top 10 teams without dropping a map or losing a pistol conversion and that wasn't at least A-tier?
@user-fc8xw4fi5vMonte beating Navi and sending them to the 2-2 elimination against Faze puts that in the S tier for me, especially with SDY and Woro2k having some personal revenge against s1mple. (Yall can say whatchu want, them saying they're friends or that they have good connection is utter b.s. and damage control)
Too predictable. NAVI had no opponents. Gambit, the only team that had a chance of beating them talent-wise had no LAN experience. Vitality was in the same camp as G2, being carried by one player. It was a transitional period for CSGO's Tier 1 scene and NAVI came out on top as by far the most solid team and strongest team. Still far better than Antwerp though.
Berlin 2019 is being slept on That crazy group-stage where no one though that NRG was gona get 3-0, and they did And That one crazy side de off the bracket(Navi-Nrg/Liquid-Astralis(btw that vertigo move ads points to the story)) and we even got JAMETIME in the final
When I saw faze win Antwerp i saw the way karrigan drop to the floor almost to say "finally i can rest in peace" and i felt that. From being benched by top teams to be forced to rebrand teams or build them from the ground up and finally having it pan out 4 years after his first major grand final was a moment of serenity for everyone who's been following him frombthe start.
I think you went easy on Krakow tbh. The underwhelming final was one thing but I remember a certain BIG jump bug absolutely sullying a huge chunk of the event too. I think the observing wasn't great either (but I could be mixing that last one up)
Eleague 2017 and 2018 had really good storylines and production. Both finals were blessed by massive comebacks, 7-13 for Astralis and 11-15 for Cloud9, NA crowds reamain goated.
I was really amazed at the crowd at IEM Dallas 2023. That was actually an insane crowd and I was feeling the energy all the way on the other side of the planet.
I am just as passionate about the old VP as you are. Would love to see you cover their journey; from 1.6 to breaking up over a car lmao. Keep up the great vids!
Boston is the best major and ELEAGUE the best organizer ever but it would be even better IMO if Faze won, Guardian and NiKo also at the time karrigan and rain getting their first major and olof his 3rd You can't tell me its better that a match fixer won is better than Guardian and Niko
I wouldn't say Paris is S tier. It was nice to see you cast the final, Tbh the best match in that major was Heroic & GL. But it was nice to see Zywoo win
Kato15 is underrated. Crazy intense last map in the final. Just doesnt have the story book ending and ended up being remembered as the "villains" of fnatic winning again over nip.
I'm a bit biased but seeing Navi stomp everyone in Stockholm and then to have that wild grand final was the most memorable major for me. The goat getting his major is s tier
Boston is one of my fav league. I dont remember much of what happen back then. I'm not even NA but watching it live, the match is so dang close. I would say the vibe and situation lead me to hypest league I have ever watch. Before I leave CS. Just got come back lately when Blast about to end and... yea :/ not a really hype league for me.
Whoah now, Krakow is one of, if not, my favorite major, I've watched that three or four times now. BIG having a great run, KNGs immortals, Dosia rolling it back? Excellent. BIG vs Immortals on cobblestone is one of my favorite maps of all time, nade stacks, knife kills, revenge knife kills. Beautiful. Maybe not the best for T1 fans, but for someone that watches probably more lower tier CS than top tier I loooove this event.
while blast did great with the production the paris major was just such a disappointment from a cs perspective, it was such a lazy version of the game... no one was focused on csgo and the playoffs teams prove it. the tier 2 major.
As a person from CIS, I love PGL Krakow. Gambit was very dysfunctional online and were about to disband. And here they are, going through the groups 3-0 against mouz, G2 and VP, and having to beat Fnatic in quarters and Astralis in semis. Felt like they deserved the Grand Final against Immortals.
For me 2019 Kato was the greatest for me as a Fin. Whole country was suddenly interested in CS and it was just wonderfull seeing their whole journey and starting the small and short lived ENCE era. Although the final was just so sad.
I’m Canadian and the only major final I didn’t get to watch was Boston because I was out of country and didn’t even find out they won until literally 3 weeks later 💔
Paris best major? I'm sorry, but that has to be a joke for me. Such boring major, ugly trophy. Top teams choking, tier 2 teams in playoffs. You could see Vitality winning from 10 miles away. I had high expectations for the BLAST major but it was pretty disappointing if you ask me. Agree with almost all the others from the list though.
Kato15 is more goated for me as a finnish person. First ever fully finnish line up in a major, playing vs tsm and vp in groups. The goat of finnish csgo: allu being arguably one "csgod" hitbox awp dust2 shot/ moment away from glory. Amazing final map on inferno. With nip almost pulling of the comeback and allu was their best player in the final playing vs the best player in the world olof at the time. Kato19 was amazing too. For majority of people Ence being so good came as a surprise when it wasnt. Ever since they made that lineup in 2018 they gradually improved and showed their potential as early as cologne18 vs navi. Just an lackluster final with nothing to remembered for unfortunately expect their walk in to the stage. Still a crazy run and biggest mistake they made was removing an igl for at the time best finnish entry aka sunny. Couldnt believe at the time they didnt replace aerial with sunny still cant to this day. Same politics in finnish scene since 1.6. adults acting childlish.
Dude, if I would've kept those stickers from kato 15 and others I would've been a gazillionaire. At least I learned something important about investing early in life (that if you really want big profits you need patience, except for a few scenarios).
Dude is a Blast partner, ofc he will put Paris on top. It was probably on lvl with Rio. All the hype as the last csgo major, and the champions stage with those 1 year wonder teams, disappointment.
Brother, you aint gonna put the goat of cs finally getting his major after so long AND the most watched CSGO pro match in history higher than B? And mlg columbus deserves S imo simply because of "the jumping double for cold" and the fact that it propelled a minor region team to dominating the cs scene for the following years and putting an end to EU supremacy. Boston was dope and all but come on.
Big disagree on the rio major. It deserves its own F-tier. The crowd was mad annoying in the broadcast. I understand that you want to cheer for your brazilian teams, but it was just too much. Not even the french crowd was close to being as annoying/bad. And the stuff that apparently happened like spitting on players etc. just makes it worse.
Nah boston was good but that c9 roster shoulda never won a major they were bad they did deserve that major tho eventho I hate to admit that they did play better on the day unlike badstralis for example that only ever won shit bcs every other team was the worst they've ever been and no single team was good for like a year. Atlanta was prob the worst together with blast major because a garbage team like badstralis won undeserved from vp. But yeah everyone knows badstralis didn't deserve a single major and they only won shit bcz everyone else was afk xD. Dreamhack winter is still a shitfest imo vp didn't get eliminated fairly bcz of kqly's cheating and they woulda won it if he didn't. The fnatic majors without a doubt the best and also the peak of cs go. We will never get such a skill lvl of cs go back I think. Mlg colombus also great and krakow is also one of the goats bcz gambit came out of the shitter they were in at their last event and just dominated.
Krakow being put that low is a tragedy. Zeus' only major, he had to dick down Astralis on Train and Inferno and eliminate them to get there, not to mention AdreN at the time was probably the best rifler in the world. Toxic Coach Lau.
Lmao Paris was B tier at best, crowd was insanely biased to the point where even as a Vitality (Magisk/Dupreeh) fan it was starting to get embarrassing. As a Cloud9 fan. I am morally obligated to say Boston Best Major. Also Niko choked in 2 finals 😂😂
I remember I was deciding which game to have as my main game when I saw Boston 2018, I completely fell in love with cs
If you're NA saying anything other than Boston 2018 as your number one then you haven't watched that major.
I highly reconmend Richard Lewis's Tier List on the Majors. Absolute banger stories!
Paris major was good? Lmao.
Love your content. You’re takes are usually so good. But the fact u put Rio anywhere above the lowest tier is deserving of a dislike
