The smelling salts are absolutely wild. Sometimes we Narcoleptics joke about using them as a last resort, but *we* find it too ridiculous. Especially with the possibility of chemical burns, losing some of your sense of smell (from the burns) addiction, and rarely, death. I cannot with this ish. I had $6000 debt, financed a $2000 phone, and crazy impulsive spending habits. Your show helped me wake up Caleb and now I’ve got 11K invested and im debt free!
I'll give Hunter credit for one thing: he didn’t piss off Caleb to the point he wouldn't finish a budget for him, like what happened to the previous two guests this week.
@@yivo9996 not 100% of the time. Several guests were really bad, the astrologer who came in for clout, and the stripper who kept staring at the camera and said "trigger warning" for getting fired absolutely deserved Caleb getting mad. Frankly, so did the security guard on Monday, that guy clearly did not care about his finances.
@@yivo9996 Pretty sure he does it for entertainment purposes and to nail in the points, because people usually don't seem to see the issues with their actions or try to justify, deny or pass blame.
I’ve been in this position. What really turned my life around was to cut out all drinking. Suddenly, I had more money and more motivation and was able to see that I was worth more then what I was being paid. Never settle.
I liked this guy. He was honest, he was humble, he’s just into some vices now and needs some structure and maybe a kick in the butt. I’m definitely rooting for him.
Agreed - Seems like a level-headed guy with a rough past. He's got past a lot of that it seems, now it's just the growing up part we all go through. Hoping he makes changes in his financial life!
Weird, because I felt the opposite. Of all the people I've seen on here, this guy ticked me off the most. He was devious and his answers to Caleb's questions were disingenuous at best. Put more plainly, I thought he was a liar. It started with the $7,000 he borrowed from his parents. He was deliberately vague about what he did with it, no matter how much prodding Caleb did. He was openly dishonest about everything until Caleb figured some things out and called him on them directly. I'm still confused as to why Caleb didn't call him on his obvious porn addiction. All those weird, misc streaming charges? Adult content and movie rentals. And we're not talking about rom coms, dramas or action films. At least not what the kind of action the rest of us are watching. Frankly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he didn't blow the $7,000 on his favorite OF girl. Probably had some fantasy thing in his mind where he could throw a bunch of that money at her and she'd see him in person... Between all those charges and his OF charges, his credit card balances would be halved. And yet, when Caleb prodded him about what all of the media/streaming charges were for, he let him just mumble some BS response. At first, I thought he was trying not to embarrass the guy, then I remembered we're talking Caleb here...
@Lucinda_Jackson he obviously struggles with porn addiction and it is very serious, but would you be super open and upfront about it if that was a problem you were dealing with? It's one of the most shamed things in society and Probably for good reason. All those things you listed doesn't really make me dislike the guy any more, just makes me feel bad for him. Hopefully he gets help and beats that addiction because it honestly is singlehandedly ruining his life.
Caleb, I am officially debt free. When I started watching I owed $25,000 in credit card bills, and my credit store was 602. Today I am debt free and my credit score is now 800. All I did to make this happen was stopping buying stuff I didn't need. That's it. Nothing magical. In theory, my savings account should grow at the rate I paid off my debt, and more. Thank you!!!
WELL DONE!! Remember to up your investment %now that you have more available income without those min monthlys!!! I'm trying to catch up with you. Sadly I was in a similar position as him. Severely underpaid(working applebees host, server, expo, togo, line Cook. Spent atleast 4 years in 2 separate times. Started 2018. Pandemic swapped line of work. And came back 2022... Lots of pain and suffering but just gotta keep saying no I don't need that!! Amen to you paying it all off. Time to do more applications lol😅🙏🏼
It's a breath of fresh air to have a guest that isn't behaving as if everything is a joke and that seems to get how screwed he is if he continues without any change.
This happened to my husband, his Mom called and told him that she was pregnant before she met his Dad. Then hung up. Everyone knew. We’ve sat across the dinner table from most of them at every event, reunion, dinner thanks giving ,Christmases for 2 decades. people who didn’t know hubby themselves , but have been friends with random family members his cousin knew. Everyone. We don’t bring our children around anyone who knew. It has made our circle smaller. But everything here in that circle can be trusted. Those who have had late discovery bio parentage disclosed , now that person has no idea who they fit in the world, or the family, or themselves. It is like pulling the rug form under someone and expecting them not to fall. You never stop wondering what else they haven’t told you. It’s a terrible feeling.
This dude is genuinely pleasant amd genuinely broken/hurt too. And seems Caleb really liked him on a personal level. Definitely a refreshing episode based on the previous few. Hopefully this guy takes this wake up call and runs with it.
This show is really helping me. I just started by creating a budget and telling my loved ones I'm opting out of holidays until I'm done cleaning up my debt. I'm so tired of being addicted to stupid things and living beyond my means.
I know it’s hard to leave a job you’ve been at for a long time especially if you feel like you helped them grow. But you gotta get out of there, they do not care about you. They will replace you with someone else who’s okay with 48k in a week.
FINALLY a good financial audit that actually could help! I saw him tearing up as the reality of his situation hit him. My dude you got this! Grind for a year or two, get the experience then swap jobs for a higher paying one and you’ll be sailing
More common than you think. At my last job, I'd see coworkers take their $250 or so weekly checks and then turn around and spend half of it on smokes and/or lottery
I am credit card debt free! Over $18,000. I also have paid my car off from $40,000 to $17,500 in 12 months. So excited to focus on my financial freedom. Thanks Caleb. Truly.
This guy was every guy I was friends with in college. It actually breaks my heart to see him try to explain why he isnt moving to a new job. He's too confortable.
I call it “getting stuck” my brilliant brother worked in a restaurant in his 20-30s making 30-40k. Something snapped and he finally finished his degree and is working as an accountant making over 100k. Some people are just very scared to move on and take risks and change their routine. I’m so glad my brother faced his demons and anxiety and moved on.
My husband was like that too he joked it’s a trauma response but it was in fact very real. Unfortunately people don’t see the mental struggles of men because they don’t talk to anyone due to societal pressure but kudos to men who open up and take responsibility for their mistakes and want to be better.
Yo, as an executive chef, i always tell my sous the same thing, Dont drink at the bar. It's so unprofessional dude, like you really dont have anything better to do on your day off? How are they sapposed to respect you when they see you half in the bag on your day off then come in the next day like you're this put together, boss? They aren't your friends they are employees, its not your spot, its your work.
@Marly930 it's not that weird in the industry but it's definitely a faux pas for management to do. It's just awkward cuz the lines between friend and employee blur, you have a couple drink them walk into the back when you're a little loose and start chatting all of a sudden you say something stupid or have 1 too many and do something stupid or God forbid they have to cut you off, hard to come back from that
A second job will not only get him out of debt faster, it will also give him less time to be out spending money at bars and at home paying to watch adult content.
thats the simple solution and its also the worst. i was at 10k in debt bc of poor choices, and worked 2 jobs while at school. now im not going to say what i used to help me get through all that lol but it took me 3 years to pay it all off (including all the interest i was accruing). i vowed to never get into that situation again if i could help it because it is literally not something i would wish on my worst enemy so i dont actually blame people for not wanting to do that. but at the same time, i think it is necessary if you want to actually start living a life again because ever since, i have never needed a second job because i learned from that
I appreciate that you are encouraging guests to be more interactive by allowing them to share their perspectives on their finances! One idea I have is to provide guests with a sheet containing a pre-drawn circle. They can then fill in the percentages for BS Spending, Necessities, and Debt at the beginning of the show. Later, you can reveal the actual pie chart and compare it to their initial estimations. This could be done digitally as pre-work to allow for comparison when you reveal the actual spending.
It should be illegal for businesses to expand by not paying their employees a living wage. If you can't afford to pay managers enough to live on, YOU'RE NOT READY TO GROW THE BUSINESS!
Hunter, you’re very brave for coming on the show and sharing your story. It must have been so confusing to learn about your biological mother at such a young age! I have complex ptsd from a very confusing (and abusive) childhood, so I can relate a lot to why you’re spending the way you are! Plus the pandemic was so hard for anyone with childhood trauma. 😢 I hope you can not only change your spending habits, but also feel empowered to work through some of your history with a trauma-informed therapist. I wish you the best! You got this! ❤❤❤❤❤
As of yesterday, my husband and I have paid off $40K of high interest credit cards and IRS debt. We started in October and watching your show has been the weekly boost we need to keep focused. I didn't want to say "abled" assuming he has no invisible disabilities. Point was from everything we know he seems okay enough to enjoy physical health and instead he's out here doing too much. Everyone can cool it).
Back when I was a bartender (5 years ago) I went into very stupid debt ~50k between personal debt and a car. One reason was clearly immaturity, the other was being in that industry, I was drinking and partying all the time. This habit made me genuinely think the only fun thing to do was drink and party and all my decision making was incredibly short sighted. I literally cash advanced from an atm while I was drinking because I didnt have any money in my account. I was such an idiot. Since leaving that industry and working for myself in the health and wellness space, I will be dept free in 4 months.
I feel like he is severely underpaid for an assistant GM position. Would be good to work this for 6 months and then look elsewhere for a job that can pay more

I love how the first 5 minutes was just Caleb being “hey you’re being severely underpaid for your position why are you working there” and dude cannot figure out what Caleb is telling him
He's working there to get the experience and references to go do the same job somewhere else for better money. That's often how career progression works nowadays.
It all depends on the restaurant also. It could be a fast food, barbecue place that would not pay as much as a sit down restaurant. You gotta compare salary to salary restaurant to restaurant. Nothing like Caleb trying to make him feel like a dumb shit for not getting more money.
You can be president or ceo of a nothing company and make no money. You can be an "assistant" to a "general manager" anywhere that has the title, and if the business isn't booming you won't be either. Titles are meaningless without something behind them
Tbf, keeping his foot in the door to get some experience in a GM role and then transfer somewhere else where he can take experience to get significantly better pay
Hi Caleb, I work professionally in the 401(k) industry so I keep up on the happenings of regulations and rule changes. You accepted an ad for capitalize at approximately the 53 minute mark. I want to make you aware that it was recently ruled that rolling over to an IRA is being challenged as always being good/fiduciary advice. As someone who works in the 401(k) industry this is impactful even for us when it comes to rollover IRAs and I meet with my internal ERISA counsel at work to discuss these changes. We have to re-evaluate force out procedures to ensure we don't land ourselves in a negative place. You may want to reconsider the ad for capitalize from strictly speaking a legal standpoint. I'd hate to see you guys run into trouble with possibly providing "bad fiduciary" advice via this ad. You and your legal team will know best, but wanted to make you aware
1. Caleb's not an advisor and not a fiduciary 2. It's legal now, and most people don't incur enough personal liability to worry about ERISA protection. 3. People forgetting about an old 401k is a huge and real risk that affect thousands
@@arh1234 while you're correct, anyone could sue anyone for providing any sort of financial advice. Caleb has done a great job walking a fine line in the past, but as his business is growing there are tons of unscrupulous attorneys looking for any pay day. Even if those suites fail it takes a lot of time and heartache. This was meant more as a good faith effort to educate a UA-camr I personally enjoy about something that could land one in hot water.
I feel like one of the best aspects of this show, as far as encouraging behavioral change, is making guests explain their strategies & mistakes out loud (maybe for the first time) to another person. Hunter seems really open to feedback & change.
WTF his Dad was the CEO of Montgomery Ward? They were making like 10 million a year BACK IN THE LATE 1800s.....Just think about that. Thats equal to making $350 million a year today. They were massive back then. There was a whole thing where the actual US Army seized the company's headquarters cause like 12k people were on strike and the CEO refused to settle with the workers after the PRESIDENT asked him to. This was during a war and the strike caused issues with shipping goods. IMO pretty interesting backstory to that company. So random this kids Dad was a CEO there at one point.
Sooo...I'm not sure that part of his story was true. None of the former CEOs of MW(who are still alive) live in Texas. (Living in Chicago area, where former MW HQ was, we used to hear the specific CEO names often in the news.) Also, were his parents in that stratosphere of wealth (multi-millions per yr) doubt they'd allow their son(grandson) drive around in a shitbox Camry. I wish the producers would push back on some of the stories the guests tell.

Just paid off the last of my debt on Saturday. I have a 6-month emergency fund, and I'm working on saving up for a new (to me) vehicle after setting aside 20% of my net pay for retirement. Thanks for the motivation. I've been following since pre 25K subs.
Boom 💥 nice freaking job man. I've been subscribed since before 50k and my life has done a 180 since then. Zero debt, two paid off cars, 20k in a high yield, max Roth, and use my CC as a debut card paid off in full every month. Good job bud!
@k20z3keith7 it's a grind, but that feeling of relief when you hit the debt free with 6 months e-fund is an adrenaline rush ... wish I had done it sooner. My expenses are low so I'm Saving at least 40% of my check and still have fun once in a while. The stress is so minimal now. I make very little income rn as I’m starting a career in natural resources and climate solutions, but by budgeting and having a plan and doing some side work, I’ve been able to make stellar progress! Thanks Caleb- I always think “taquitos” when I want to buy something stupid. It’s even a category in my budget (bought from you) so I can see if I ever make stupid decisions. (And I’m proud to say, it’s very little)
Bro, listen to your fellow bro here, you need to get into a routine of going to the gym, reading, taking free online classes, meal prepping, and overall, focusing on making your life better. This job seems to perpetuate your bad habits and is not a good environment for you. If I were you, I’d start looking for a new gig. You got new owners and you don’t owe them anything. Your position demands more money. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for your show. I'm 35 years old and only been the provider for the house since I was in my early 20s. I love the way you cut the BS and get to the point. It has made me sit and make a budget stop spending BS and start cleaning up debt. Thank you for the people who also needed this wakeup call because I needed too.
Caleb, I’m making what feels like small progress but it’s progress- I have paid off a good portion of my Affirm loans, and all of my pay in 4s, along with a home improvement loan and and I’m saving what feels like a mere $85 a month now. However, this morning as soon as my paycheck hit and I clicked all those “pay off your balance” buttons, I heard your voice saying “It’s progress, keep going for a better future for yourself” and it kept me motivated. I have a dirt cheap mortgage (bought for $60k, 4 years ago) that I can most definitely pay off within half the time if I pay off all this consumer crap and keep grinding. And wanting to live for the future vs now (it’s a process) Thank you for all you do Caleb! I will say because the mortgage is super cheap it did allow me to go overboard with consumer unfortunately, along with a lot of improvements with the house overall.
Consider the interest rate on your mortgage. 4 years ago it might be 3-4%. After you pay off your consumer debt it might be better to start investing and getting 8-10% in the market over paying off your small mortgage.
@@exqueue3813 It’s at 3.6%, I’m just considering paying off the mortgage early because honestly I am the first in my family to be a homeowner and nothing would make me feel more secure and stable in life than having a house fully paid for. 4 credit cards and 1 loan paid off. Car paid off in 2 more months and 2 more loans to go. Gone from owing £38k to £27k since January. This shit is so hard, but future me will be so thankful I've sacrificed! This show has been a lifesaver even if it doesn't directly translate to here in the UK!
I hate the phrase, "I was going through..." It's an obvious attempt to deflect personal responsibility. "I was going through a divorce." " I was going through some car repair issues." "I've been through a lot in my life."
@CalebHammer I review financial information for my job and the statement, "We ask for a pdf, what we have here is a screen shot, of you taking a picture, inside of your notes app," almost feels like 85% of my job description. XD
One thing I don’t think people are prepared for, is when they leave home they go from middle class by virtue of living with their parents, to being poor. But they want to maintain the same lifestyle their were afforded through their parents, so they go into debt vs living within their means as broke teenagers/early 20s.
Bro! Zyn got me off 🚬!! - I wish you all the best. You CAN have a better life but you’ve gotta believe that you’re worthy of it (& you ABSOLUTELY ARE). ♥️
I'm usually an audio listener because I listen to this while I work driving a vehicle(phone in pocket). I've been able to watch the videos this month rather than just listen, something I haven't gotten the chance to do since 85k subs. Seeing the purchases on screen rather than just hearing them is on another level. It's one thing to hear "dominos" like 9 times in 2 minutes, it's another thing to see that this man doesn't spend less than $40 each time he calls it out. I have a family of 4 and I don't spend that much on domino's.
Nobody exceeds in the restaurant industry. It’s the slimiest garbage lifestyle that sucks immature people in. RUN DUDE, you have to get a real job, you’re in poverty.
My grandparents ran a restaurant for 30 years. For years afterwords, we’d make food for a wedding or church thing and people would say (not knowing the history) “wow this food is great, you should open a restaurant!” My grandparents would always reply, “we’d love to, if we won the lottery we’d open a restaurant! And run it until the money’s gone.”
This cannot be understated. The only ones that make good enough money to thrive are the owners. Next up would be the bartenders and the higher performing servers. They can make enough to survive, but not really live on their own and put away for retirement. And they only do that well, because they tend to lie about how much they really make and dont pay taxes on all the tips. Managers and assistant managers who are salaried get the shaft. They make less than the bartenders. And god help the kitchen staff and dishwashers. F&B is not a career. Its a dead end job that requires minimal training and has minimal risk.
Not true at all.. but you should, like Caleb said, know the market and get paid your worth. You can make a lot of money and have a good career in the restaurant industry, but only at a place that does well and pays you well

You made a choice to change your life! 😊
Going teetotal really can do so much for a person. Coming up to a year sober now and it has been life changing

I liked this guy. He was honest, he was humble, he’s just into some vices now and needs some structure and maybe a kick in the butt. I’m definitely rooting for him.
+1
Likeable guy, very human. I'm definitely rooting for him.
Agreed when he's ready to get some discipline and structure he's gonna take off definitely rooting for him
Agreed - Seems like a level-headed guy with a rough past.

Sounds like his job is the type that says we’re a “family” and that just means they’ll underpay you and make you feel like you can’t leave.
I know it’s hard to leave a job you’ve been at for a long time especially if you feel like you helped them grow. But you gotta get out of there, they do not care about you. They will replace you with someone else who’s okay with 48k in a week.
💯 “we’re a family” is code for we’re going to under pay you, and there’s going to be lots of drama.

That’s why they don’t pay him: they know the money’s gonna come back to them anyway so they just cut out the middle man.

Yeah, my dad was a shift manager. He said he'd always go out, have one beer, and leave. The staff want to talk about you not to you.
I just commented about this. It’s so weird to me.
I'm not sure I've heard the term "half in the bag" before. I like it. Thank you for sharing that today.
@Draggonny yeah I go out for the odd special occasion, have 1 beer, buy the guys a round, bounce.
Of course. But that's not what he wants 🤔

thats the simple solution and its also the worst. i was at 10k in debt bc of poor choices, and worked 2 jobs while at school. now im not going to say what i used to help me get through all that lol but it took me 3 years to pay it all off (including all the interest i was accruing). i vowed to never get into that situation again if i could help it because it is literally not something i would wish on my worst enemy so i dont actually blame people for not wanting to do that. but at the same time, i think it is necessary if you want to actually start living a life again because ever since, i have never needed a second job because i learned from that

Thank you for saying this!
1. Caleb's not an advisor and not a fiduciary
2. It's legal now, and most people don't incur enough personal liability to worry about ERISA protection.
3. People forgetting about an old 401k is a huge and real risk that affect thousands

I am looking at upping my 401k contributions and adding a few more investments eventually, however for 401k I’m already at my employer’s 100% match.
That's incredible. You got this!
The neck scratch zoom in was mischievous and i love it
EVERY choice, purchase, and decision is a dopamine hit for him
This! He’s got addictive tendencies. Hope he figures this all out soon.
Honestly yes but with ADHD, our brains literally don’t make the right amount of dopamine… so it’s not 100% on him. He needs a good dr.
His story breaks my heart. I hope he makes an awesome comback. Also, shout out to his grandparents for loving and caring for him despite his mothers decisions. I hope he eventually realizes his worth and finds happiness.
Lol Caleb flipped him off for not fulfilling his promise of bringing BBQ
I died laughing 😆 😂
Followed by the tummy grab and jiggle 🤣🤣
U cant go back ur on that kind of promise 😂
I hope the next episode 15 restaurants send him and the crew BBQ. 😂
😂😂😂
“Can…can noah do it in the post show ?” 💀💀 bro went STRAIGHT TO THE POINT💀
ALways throwing Noah under the bus lmao
therapy for that experience he went through as a kid, can't begin to understand how impactful that must have been.
A print out of a picture that was screenshotted and put into notes is crazy lol
Just paid off 4k in credit card debt and I'm well on my way to building an emergency fund and investing in my retirement. I'm so thankful for this channel for lighting the 🔥 under my a$$ that I needed - thank you Caleb and co.!
That awkward moment when you borrow money to take care of the debt but forgot to change your behavior in the process
Caleb has a way of making me change my spending/saving habits and I almost never take advice from people on the Internet. Way to get to me Caleb 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
Lmao sammeee started packing lunches to work no longer going out to eat. Focusing on paying off my cc’s asap
The pensions and brand names are different but the financial principles are universal.
Great effort keep going
I hate the phrase, "I was going through..." It's an obvious attempt to deflect personal responsibility. "I was going through a divorce." " I was going through some car repair issues." "I've been through a lot in my life."
I really think having the guests fill out a bar chart or highlight purchases is a good way of getting that wake up call to really sink in.
This dude is wildly underpaid
Edit: He is also an alcoholic
He’s paid to much
Edit is correct tho
He needs to stop drinking, it will make the rest of the journey so much easier
Yes. I think he only drinks at his job. On he day off. Because he is broke
They probably run a tab
He releases a video the same day every week that i do cardio…takes my mind off the pain while I’m “running”
Me w stairmaster😭💀
Bro I also run on the treadmill watching Caleb!
Caleb's HANDWRITING 😭✋🏻 my man needs to take a calligraphy class
My sweet treat for the holiday weekend!
yum yum!

"I had to spend $3500 getting my car fixed. So I had to get it towed...."
To fucking Japan apparently 💀
He might as well come back from Japan with an actual reliable car lmaooo
Refreshing to see a “normal” episode. He has issues but he seems motivated to change and better his life. Wishing him the best
Dominos is overpriced, mediocre pizza. It's a perfect symbol for BS spending.
Nobody exceeds in the restaurant industry. It’s the slimiest garbage lifestyle that sucks immature people in. RUN DUDE, you have to get a real job, you’re in poverty.
My grandparents ran a restaurant for 30 years. For years afterwords, we’d make food for a wedding or church thing and people would say (not knowing the history) “wow this food is great, you should open a restaurant!”
My grandparents would always reply, “we’d love to, if we won the lottery we’d open a restaurant!
You can make a lot of money and have a good career in the restaurant industry, but only at a place that does well and pays you well
@@sprootmgoot Show me somebody who works in the restaurant industry with a fully funded emergency fund and an appropriately funded retirement, and I'll show you somebody who is being supported by mommy and daddy or a spouse with a real job.
@@giantpune I will also say it TOTALLY depends on region, I live in Oregon and we have a pretty good state wide minimum wage and you can often get untaxed cash tips so.. that might not be the same as wherever you live. But I know lots of ppl who make good money in the industry so I just was trying to say your generalization was quite untrue
This dude is the king of complicated answers.
“How is your relationship with your parents?”
“Well my mom is actually my sister…”
“Are they retired?”
“Before the dawn of time there was a department store…”
"Why did you take a cash advance?"
"Oh that's when I had to send some money over... For a bill... Or to pay someone for a bill... It was to pay off partial rent where I sent it to them and they sent it back to me."
"Why do you have a storage unit?"
"I'm renting out a room so I put the washer and dryer there."
"Spotify again? Why do you have two Spotify subscriptions?"
"Oh, that's the Duo thing. Where you can share."
"Who are you sharing with?!"
"Uh, myself."
To be fair, this guys relationship with his family is absolutely complicated
the titles haven't calmed down but the thumbnails have, i enjoy that
His company sounds like they screwed him over by giving him AGM responsibilities without paying him as an AGM. The company even gets back some of their money with this guy spending a lot of his off time at work. They really got him good. 😂
