    Just got the set a few days ago.
    The audio quality using the internal 32 bit recording and external lav mics is fantastic and timecode makes syncing using multiple audio files from both transmitters and multiple video files a matter of seconds in Davinci Resolve. Really impressed.

      One thing I really wish is that Rode would allow us to pair even more transmitters with the Receiver to have more than just two channels timecode synced.

    Fantastic video. I have a question. I'm using a Rode VideoMic Pro NTG, which has a selectable microphone gain for its TRS output. If I'm plugging that microphone into the Wireless Pro, what should the VideoMic gain be set to when recording 32 Bit Float?

    I'm curious if the Reciever enables 32 bit. I just bought a set and have a 3.5mm to XLR splitter cable coming. I'm hoping i might be able to connect this into my Zoom F6 to really round out my semi professional sound kit.

      32bit only in transmitter. The receiver can simply because of the limitation of how much data can be sent over the 2.4ghz signal.

For example right now Resolve is the only software that can read TC from Audio, and you said that its possible to change most of the settings with the buttons on the reciever. Thats actually not true, you have to connect to a phone/computer for most of the settings. But otherwise great video! Thanks for that :)

      You can use a cheap adapter like this one bhpho.to/467PLiw as long as you are using a self powered XLR mic. With a mic like the Rode NTG 5 you would need to use an interface that can provide XLR power. This is one such device I used which works amzn.to/3sR73Cj

    When you turned around a few times audio cut out. Why is that? And how is this? Considered a pro technology if simply, turning around away from the receiver cuts the audio?
    I wonder if using this as a run and gun action scene what were considering there’s a lot of movement

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  9 місяців тому +2

      if you are around 30 feet or loser then the audio won't cut out. If however you are past 40 feet and the transmitter is not in direct line of sight of the receiver then the signal will sometimes cut out. This is what happens with all radio signals. They all have a lower range when not in direct line of sight. Some of them send a stronger signal which means they will work further away when not in direct line of sight while others that send a weaker signal will cut out quicker.

      I feel bad for people that still cannot use timecode tbh. It only takes like 1-2 seconds in Resolve to sync hundreds of video and audio files from both transmitters in Resolve.

  • @jasonhenne6959
    @jasonhenne6959 9 місяців тому

    I'm confused Tom. I'm interested in using these to replace a pair of tentacle syncs for connecting to cameras and generating timecode. In the video you said plug the receiver into the camera... why did you say receiver rather than the transmitters? Like if I have two cameras with bnc timecode connectors, could I not plug in the 2 transmitters to generate timecode during a shoot?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  9 місяців тому

      From what I understand only the receiver outputs timecode via the 3.5mm jack. I will dive further into this system for my follow up video and see if it's possible to also use the transmitters.

    • @Kroess
      @Kroess 9 місяців тому

      As the transmitters don't have outputs (apart from USB-C), I don't see an easy way to use them instead of your Tentacle Sync E.
      You could use both systems in tandem, if you want to - feeding the receiver's output into one your Sync E devices.

    Great overview. I love your stuff. But RODE... WHY SO SHINY??? They've FINALLY put together a pro-level, versatile system with accessories included but they make it hyper-reflective... good grief. This seems like a major flaw if you're using the transmitter in your shot.

      There's a million ways to mitigate the reflective finish, it's just seems like a glaring flaw on what seems to finally be a truly elegant solution.
      I've used the Hollyland Lark 150 since it's been out and have often considered buying the little Tascam unit that records in 32-bit float. This PRO unit seems to bring the best of all the similar units together.
      Personally I tape off all logos anyway, so yeah, black gaff tape to the rescue. Or maybe a nice origami bird make from cinefoil! 😂

    The human body is largely water and the wifi signal wont pass through the human body well. As long as the transmitter is in direct line of sight of the receiver you have a chance of the signal getting through.

  • @MaxoticsTV
    @MaxoticsTV 9 місяців тому

    32-bit has nothing to do with setting audio levels. Sorry Tom, you're another UA-camr parroting marketing claims from Rode. I've done many videos on the subject. I'm happy to answer any question you have. Happy to look at any direct proof that it prevents clipping or in any way has better fidelity than 24-bit when recording analog sources. Does it hurt to record in 32-bit float. No. But you said it provided a benefit when recording--without providing evidence.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  9 місяців тому +3

      32-bit float can technically be clipped but it would be really hard to do. In most cases the microphones themselves would reach a loudness limit before. 32-bit just simply means more data or a wider range of sound spectrum can be captured. So 32 bit float recording can capture more of the quiet and loud sounds before the limit is reached. It is the same as having a wider dynamic range when it comes to video capture. But you are right that I perhaps could do a video explaining it and providing evidence. Thank you for a video idea!

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  9 місяців тому +5

      32-bit float simply means there is more of a audio range being captured. Can you go past the limit of the 32-bit recording? Of course you can! In most case scenarios you are not supposed to adjust the audio levels when recording in 32bit. Just leave it in neutral setting that the manufacturer has set. This allows the 32-bit float recording to capture any normal sounds that human ears can hear. The average healthy human ear has a dynamic range from 0dB to 120 - 130 dB give or take depending on the person. From the faintest whispers to loud screaming. Of course when recording very loud sounds that human ears can't handle, (like very loud explosions for example) you will still need to adjust the gain setting lower. A gunshot is typically around 140 to 190 decibels. Ive done lots of tests recording gun shots and explosions and 32bit is also really useful when capturing those because the dynamic range of the recording is so much bigger. But it doesn't mean that you can just hit record and think you will always capture the full explosion sound. In some cases I had to bring the gain setting down to be able to capture those louder sounds. When you are recording most sounds that fall within the average human ear decibel range you are fine. Do more tests where you don't touch the gain setting on your recorder and simply record people talking, screaming, whispering, etc. Then see how much more superior 32 bit float recording is to say 16 bit. To put it in perspective, 16-bit audio is capable of recording sound with a dynamic range of up to 96.3 decibels. 24-bit audio recordings can capture a dynamic range of up to 144.5 dB. Meanwhile, 32-bit float audio can capture the absolutely ludicrous range of up to 1,528 decibels.
