    Ok I can see the cv shaft but why replace the entire front differential? I’ve replaced plenty of output shaft’s without a problem on rams. Those differentials a very expensive.

    That could have been prevented with a little grease. I imagine a bean counter got a bonus for not using lube during assembly.

    There's a company in Canada, it's a transmission shop that sells intermediate shaft kits. I think I paid $450 for it. Comes with the intermediate shaft, seal and bearings also cv axle shaft dust cover. It took me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours total to change it. There a great video on UA-cam from the transmission that sells these kits and how to install them. I watched it, bought the kit and watched it again and swapped it out. Was pretty easy.

      You do realize he changed the entire differential when you can just change that output shaft. Takes 30 seconds to get it out and put a new one in without taking the differential out.

    Got an 07 Honda odyssey. It had a click when turning left, changed the cv axle. No more click, we’ll almost, once in awhile it clicks when it goes into drive or reverse, I don’t have wear on my old splines like you do there but I’m asking cuz I’m curious if there is an issue in the transmission or am I just being paranoid? 126k miles.

    I've replaced my front passenger CV Axle on my 2016 Ram two times now, and the new one which I installed two months ago is not making a noise. When I looked at it the other day I noticed that it's still connected, boot is in new condition, but it does feel too loose and wobbly. Originally, the reason I had to replace it was because I had a wheel bearing failure due to some larger tires I think on the truck (which came with it). My wheel was at probably a 25 degree angle to the truck when that happened. Do you think maybe when that original incident happened, it ruined the differential mounts or stretched the control arms? Trying to figure out why the new cv axles keep failing. Thanks!

      Could be the transfer case sir.. specifically the chain, but if left unattended it will cause way worse damage, to the point of some type of catastrophic damage to the entire unit... it will then turn 100s into 1000s of dollars... not to mention that if it does fail at a highway speed, you may very well lose complete control of your vehicle.. I have seen this happen quite a few times.. I just wanted to let you know, but I’m sure you’re aware, but I also know how we all get busy and things pass us by until they resurface as a greater problem... Find a good transmission shop near you and start there...😬👍🇺🇸

    Why didn’t you just replace the stub shafts as opposed to replacing the entire front diff?

    • @AlexTheCarDoctor
      @AlexTheCarDoctor  Рік тому

      Thanks for your question and not making assumptions 😊 the stub shaft required opening up the Diff. If I opened up the Diff, I would’ve wanted to go ahead and change everything for warranty purposes. On this one the stub shaft didn’t simply slide out… I checked. Since the customer drove 4 hours to have me work on his truck, we decided that this was best! Thanks for the question.

    I just learned a few things here... i need both cv axle and shaft on driver side.. i was wondering what the red stuff coming out of it was, it's eating the shaft i guess. I have the exact wiggle. Bad roads in south Carolina, I've hit some pot holes that have costed me thousands and thousands of dollars. We need better roads in south Carolina.

    • @AlexTheCarDoctor
      @AlexTheCarDoctor  Рік тому

      Not sure what you’re talking about, but on this particular one. The shaft kit requires rebuilding it. When you are a shop owner, you have to assess the situation differently. Time, (this guy drove 4 hours to see me) mileage, ability to provide warranty. It was in his best interest to replace the whole thing. We discussed all options for him, and this is what he chose. I NEVER overcharge anyone! I always do what’s best for my customers. And I certainly don’t make any techs look bad. I guess you’re not subscribed to my channel, because if you was you’d know that. I’m happy to help anyone tech or customer. I really wish people wouldn’t make assumptions like this by watching a 60 second short…. But I guess it’s the world we live in 😒.
