Momma wearin' that mink! She went from poverty to being a multimillionaire. And she was humble and compassionate too. What a beautiful soul!
She could have been bigger than Aretha Franklin but her loyalty and love were for her Lord Jesus Christ. I remember the first time I heard her voice and I got goosebumps and cried with joy, a truly angelic voice.
Yes she could have. I definitely agree!! She was not for sale Hallelujah!!! She belonged to God and stayed with God!!
Mahalia is one of Aretha's biggest inspiration. Mahalia is also one of women who raised Aretha on her childhood and also become her mentor.
This was a true woman of God. I truly feel her success was because she humbly gave to others. She thought nothing of the fame or the power or the glory. She gave it all to God.
+ljude01 Yes she did! She gave God All the Glory regardless how God made her Famous with her Anoited Voice God given her!
I believe She is singing today around God's Throne! Such a beautiful anointed lady!
She is the only gospel singer I know of that didn't cross over. This lady spent her life singing for the lord .
Cissy Houston, Dottie Peoples, I would add Lashun Pace but some gospel artist may sing a song and use different name on the credit
Maybe she didn't cross over because our Blessed Lord Jesus had her life mapped out already, who knows.
The Clark Sisters never ever crossed over either. I do believe that’s why they are still so relevant 50 years later. 🙏🏽💪🏾🙌🏾❤️
@@shawneequiaflanders1053 They give me hypocrite vibes but maybe I'm wrong 🤷
The Queen of Gospel
May Her Slumber Be Ever So Peaceful Long Live The Greatest Gospel Singer Of All Times, Rest Well Queen, Your Anointing Is Still Being Heard TIL This Day By All Ages, And You’ll Never Be Forgotten, Heavenly Birthday 10/26/1911🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I am Deaf, but I have two hearing aids and I can hear her voice was so beautiful like the Angel. My mother favorite song, "Be still my soul" and I will never forget the song because God is so good. Thank you for the sharing! :-)
Vernado Harrison she one of queen whole time and I am hard of hearing
Greatest Gospel singer ever. My brother's favorite singer and wouldn't you know, they died on January 27th, 1972 a few hours apart. Precious memories.
Hey now, them hearing aids gone work and you gone hear just fine trust me
She was a beautiful soul.
No not was but is, she lives forever with our Blessed Lord Jesus, she's run the race and won the race.
Amen.she said ARETHA Franklin mother had a beautiful voice and that ARETHA had a voice like her mother. I'm going but oh mother Mahalia your voice is magnificent. I'd fainted if I'd been there when she sung this.🙏🌟🦋✨🌷💯💯👏👏👏. Neita James.
@@neitajames6029 y’all always repeating some bullshit that don’t matter! Crazy shit 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️
Imitation Of Life! She had me then. Rest well beautiful Queen!💋💘
What an absolute treasure she was. Just a gorgeous, wonderfully talented soul. They don't make Mahalia's anymore.
Angela yes indeed wonderful beautiful soul an we where so lucky to have her when we did
Well now... not so fast. It just so happens my girlfriend and I made a Mahalia just last month. (Jan. 7th to be precise) But seriously, you are of course correct. I very much love and respect Mrs. Jackson. She truly was one of a kind 💕
True story: I met mahalia at my aunts house in1970; she was very humble and sweet. She asked for writing paper and a pen; gave my sister and me her address and telephone number said, if you ever need me, here's how you can reach me. We never called. She passed away not too long after that. R.I.P Mrs. Jackson♡
I feel that...how blessed you both are to have been in her path.
R.I.P. to the 9 beautiful souls that died by the hand of evil in Charleston, S.C. July 17, 2015 AME Mother Emmanuel Church. Bring PEACE to the families. Amen!
Today people have to tell you they are annoinated, but Ms. Mahalia Jackson didn't have to tell you, her annoinating is all over her, you can just see God's blessings even before she opens her mouth. Thank you for the post R.I.P. Ms MJ
Haha, I just heard that today on another video and I remarked to myself don’t tell us, why say that, show us.
...she will never be duplicated.
@@themilton5 My favorite Gospel Singer of all time. Love me some Mahalia Jackson. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖Thanks for posting. She's left us a priceless legacy.
Preparing to portray Mahalia Jackson in her early years in a musical stage play here in Cleveland Ohio and my God learning more about her and hearing more songs makes me more inclined to attempt to do some justice to the role! She was a jewel before my time but blessing me and doesn’t even know it. Amazing vessel she was
The world needs a Mahalia Jackson.
Necie Milt And thank you for beautiful memories of Mahalia Jackson. I was mesmorized by her for so long a time now. I still feel her spirit. I am 78 in 2 months, but if down, I am up-listed by her songs.
Diane Webster Oh God Bless You and happy belated Birthday to you. Sorry that I am just seeing this comment reply from you.
Funny how those people was looking when she got out the car lmao!! She was before my time she appears to have been a force to reckon with
Wearin' a mink and stepping out of a limo with a camera following let them folks know she had some juice!
It is truly touching that Mahalia felt it was her calling and she states she 'worked hard for the Lord", I don't think I've ever heard that from any of todays spiritual artist. Long are the days of people doing things purely out of love for mankind, her beauty goes unmasked, her souls if forever felt and her spirt is forever present. Thank you Necie for sharing...
You are very welcome and I really appreciate your lovely comment. Thank you.
I wish I could've met her. She seemed like a beautiful person. You can here the anointing in her voice. She died before my time, but I play her songs a lot when I'm at work and they help me to get through what ever is going on that night. A true soldier that has gone on home.
I met her at our house and since black people couldn't go to hotels. Families hosted them!! I was in awe!! I cried when I heard she had passed!! I am now almost 67 that was 60 years ago!! She was such a gentle, beautiful person!! I still listen tp this day!!
@@territeamer8294 my mother just made 67 and she died the year I was born so she been dead 49 years
I love to hear Mahalia Jackson sing. She had such a powerful voice.
i grew up with my grandma and aunti and every sunday morning Mahalia Jackson was on, i love love her songs. Some people may think it strange that i like her music but she sings with such feeling and emotions. What a Voice!! Thanks for having this video.
I listen also, my sweet granny listened to Ms. Jackson often and said her songs helped her♥️♥️♥️ I miss my granny so
My heart broke when I heard she died. I thank the Lord, for allowing me to meet one of her friends in Texas. And seeing her photographs and writings.
She was not only the most greatest gospel singers but she was the greatest singer of all to me
So wise, so intelligent, so gifted. I just can’t help but feel that we lost something that we really need today when we lost her. It’s our job to be sure she lives on through her music 🙏🏽, on to the next generations.
She is one of the few who are chosen. Many are called, but few are chosen. The masses 99.9 percent won't make it, like Noah and his family, and Rahab and her family. Just a few. I want to be in the few and serve God daily to the best of my ability. Read your Word aloud daily to 'stay alive and keep the candle of the Lord that is lit inside of you believers'.
Kathleen Simpson Revelation 7:9-12English Standard Version (ESV)
After this I looked, and behold, (A)a great multitude that no one could number, (B)from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, (C)clothed in white robes, with (D)palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, (E)“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and (F)the four living creatures, and they (G)fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, (H)saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” ////////////// God will get the exact number of saints that he needs no less no more.
Mahalia was the Lords Shepherd in song, and that wig had more rock n roll than Elvis & Lil Richard put together..
Amen and Men go that.
Can anyone sing the Lord's prayer the way she did?
None..No opera singer.
Such feeling and emotion.
God bless her and may she RIP perfect peace in the arms of our Creator.
As a young girl I saw the movie "Imitation of Life" and that was when I fell in love with Ms Jackson. Thank you Ms Milt for posting this. It really touched me and brought back some wonderful memories of watching that movie with my late mother. Again, thank you and may God Bless You.
You are very welcome Baby and thank you so much for your lovely comment.
I watched Imitation of life a million times, and still watch it this very day, i love mahalia....
Charles McDonald Yes I have that movie as well. I love it. Haven't watched it in a while so think it's time for an anniversary of it. I have all 2 versions of it, but love Lana Turners version the best with Mahalia Jackson on it in!!
Amen, me too..i love the Lana Turner version better, that is one of the best down to earth movies ever, that movie was touching from start to finish. and still cant stop watching it, Amen..
Charles McDonald lol I know what you mean. It is truly a Classic!! They all were such great actors!! I cry each time I watch it!!
How many singers, sing their wigs loose? Mahalia Jackson was the truth!
It's a shame back in the 40, 50, and 1960's black people got much respect in other countries than America🙌
Mrs.Brown once we get to heaven we want have to worry about that no more🙏🏾GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY 🙏🏾
you have the democratic party to thank for decades of enslaving African Americans and holding them back, and making them feel like they can not contribute to society without the help of the government and its still happening NOW. sorry, just keeping it real.

my mother loved her , and i would sit and listen to her records over 5o years ago.
In 1962 I was 11 years old hearing and seeing Mahalia for the first time in a tiny settlement in Rotorua, New Zealand. Have been listening, obsessively, ever since and she has only got better as I came to understand and hear properly her genius.
Mahalia Jackson is my musical hero. She was a grand lady. An influential singer and stylist. Never be another like her.
she was only 61 years old.God was ready for her to come home. She was truly an angel. A angel of music. she was beautiful inside out in. She touch the World Musical. Mahalia Jackson was beautiful and God bless you.RIP.
@Leah Leah nobody ever thinks about the horrible food they eat. And they don't realize it's killing them slowly and sometimes it does it fast.
In that time you eat what was available. You ate food that would stick to your ribs because you didn't know where the next meal was coming from.
i absolutely love Mahalia Jackson. ❤ there will never be another.
there's already another. UA-cam kim shelby. she is a descendant of Mahalia jackson, 3rd cousin to be exact
Long live the queen , long live the queen.
She is still one of my favorite singers.God had blessed her with a melodious voice.
A truly saintified woman of God. She used her voice to serve the Lord and didn't follow the dollars. So sad that she could not have children because of tumors. My entire childhood my mother taught me about Mahalia Jackson. Her songs were always present in our home.
U can feel the annointance all over her voice, I miss that about vocalist, when you could feel their gift and see God in it.
Christina, not only was she one of your mother's favorite singers, she was the world's favorite gospel singers. I grew up listening to her and fell in love with her. There was no one that could move you like she did. Miss Mahalia was truly blessed by God. I was so lucky to have seen this daughter of Christ in my lifetime. My favorite song is Trouble of the World.
i know that food was delicious lawd!! i love her voice and grace!
I remember while i was growing up and my mom would have Mahalia singing resounding through the house...I guess you can say i grew up on hearing her sing gospel..I now have grand children and they ask who is that Grandma....i look at them and say "she was the greatest gospel singer there ever was" i love her still today as much as when i was a child ..She will always be the greatest gospel singer to me..Thank you for this wonderful video..!!!
It was a blessing that she was able to sing and be noticed in her time of living! Racism was so strong and in full effect back in her days! But thankfully to the Lord, that she was guarded up by angels! She sung in lil tv movies back then as well..
Mahalia ,was one of my all -time favorite Black Gospel Singers ,God truly Blessed her with a Powerful Voice .Her music and Inspirational Words of Wisdom always Ministered to my heart and brought Tears to my eyes .I miss her alot .RIP Mahalia ,Love Ya Sister.God Bless You.
Queen Latifah should do her life story on the big screen , I think she would be perfect for the roll
You know that is surely a good thought!! That would be so good if they made a movie of Mahalia and let Queen Latifah play her. Thanks for your comment.

She truly used her gifts to help and heal people. Ms. Jackson, I thank you for your ministry. Your legacy of love will live on. Your sacrifices has not gone unnoticed. Rest well mother.
Thanks for posting this rare footage. I went to Mahalia's funeral in Chicago as a young girl. I never forgot how Aretha Franklin sang Precious Lord and Coretta Scott King describing how Mahalia was Dr. Martin Luther King's favorite singer. She said, Martin always said "a voice like Mahalia's comes once in a millennium."
I ❤ Mahalia Jackson. She was so precious. Her songs are so anointed. She was truly an inspiration!
My God my God when she sang at the end I couldn't help but shed tears (of joy) especially when she got to "For thine is the kingdom" I got chills right away! My father remembered seeing her funeral procession when he was younger and how the streets were crowded with people. This woman right here is what a true servant of God looks like, u can just feel his holy spirit within her
Thanks so much for your comment. The way she sings the Prayer sure does bring chills!! Its just something about the way Mahalia sings it!!!!
Mrs Jackson I say this with love in my heart. I lived in your building in Los Angeles. Johnny your brother known to me as MrJackson taught me so many things. I was honored to be in such a place and learn a lot about you from him. The family was good to my aunt, my sister and me and I will always remember your brother Johnny Jackson. That performance of The Lord's Prayer is one of the most thrilling things I have ever heard. I live in New Orleans, and I remember well all the publicity when her funeral was held here, shortly after Louis Armstrong's. They were both icons.
