Mrs. Coretta Scott King was the epitome of grace, dignity, and beauty.
She really was 🙏🏿💕🕊️
I read that when she was told that Dr. King had been killed, she kept her composure & shortly thereafter she was driven to ID the body & was still very composed. She was rumored to be strong. She too, was chosen by God to fulfill a leadership role.

Yes lord a wonderful great lady and human
Beautiful woman and I always wondered did she and Mrs Betty Shabazz ever had a companions after their husbands
deaths..
Despite the time period, the emotion of the people makes me feel like this is happening today. This is history that needs to be seen. Thank you for posting this. ❤️
What happened then has so much of what's going on today 😥 like my Gramma said " Why do they always kill the good ones?"
This history repeat it self every time! We say we getting stronger and better. However, we knock back ! We cannot get the basics things to live by ! Food ,medical care. Let along a place live! Look at surrounding of where the funeral
@@bettydavis7904 great point! Look at the surrounding
" anybody here seen my old friend Martin? Can you tell me where he's gone? He's freed alot of people, but the good they die young. I just looked around and he's gone ".
The same people who quote his I Have a Dream speech always wanted him dead in all states and territories.
The behavior of the crowd is impeccable - solemn, respectful and dignified.
This footage is never shown on TV & it's such an important piece of history. Thank you so much for posting this. It's a shame that schools today are erasing not just Black History, but (History), as everyone needs to see this.
Yesssssssssss indeed EVERYONE
We know why it wasn't...
Black people are not erasing Black History, white people are trying to do it in any way they can. Real talk. 2/15/2024
Martin Luther king's brother looked so much like him 2:15
I was looking for this comment.. I was like wait a minute 😮
I wonder where his parents and his sister, Christine were. I didn’t see them near Coretta and the children

CIA 🇺🇸👴🏻😈killed him one year later
Killing him didn't stop him, it immortalized him. That's for all protagonist who never understood the power of a seed.
The movement was stopped!
@Berdell Fleming no it was not. It continues.
Though there may not be one standout definitive leader, others in a more broad way have taken on that mantel continuing to fight against injustices whenever they occur.
The PEOPLE took to the streets when George Floyd was murdered causing more things to change for the better though there will always be more work to do.
@@bh.rippleeffect don’t you dare compare that criminal to MLK Jr who was a man of god
Because MLK jr is a way better then that low life sucm who put a gun to a pregnant womens tummy aslo she was black
@Tails Prower fan what are you even talking about??
I wasn't comparing anyone to anyone.
All I said was that some thought by killing King, that that would stop his dream.
I used the analogy saying burying a seed only causes a massive tree to come forward. It didn't silence the seed.
The same isctrue concerning Dr. King. Not sure at all what you're referring to.
Most definitely 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Oh how the world needs this man today.
Grateful to those who paved the way and laid down their lives for us 🙏🏿
Omlord I am in “ awe “ of my ancestors… I truly appreciate all their scarifications

Words can’t not explain the sorrow in these Brothers & Sisters eyes ,may God Bless them all.🙏🏾
Especially that one sister when the man was talking.....
Was born in 60s and wish black men were more unified and supportive like Ralph Abernathy and allied to Dr. King. We have lost our way.
Jesus lord 🙏🏿
I cannot imagine what Coretta Scott was feeling at this time!🤦 but it was good to see the outpour of all of our black people that showed up and the support🙏 it was a horrid time for all of the people that loved him😔
As a 69 year old lifelong Atlantan I remember those sad days well.
I was just thinking how great it would be to find someone who was actually at the funeral service that day and ask them what they remember and how they felt on that day. The vast majority of people in attendance are likely gone now but we have people like you who are actually a primary source of information and knowledge as it relates to that tragic day. God bless ❤️
What street was this on because would to drive down this street?
@@blast4me754 Google Hanley's Funeral Home and see if they're still in business. The fact this is where MLKs funeral was held means it's a historical landmark. Look them up.
Being at the age of 12 when this happened, the memory is burned into my heart and mind. Never will I forget the pain, or fear I heard in the voices of adults.... actually, this was the first time I had seen Mom cry for someone she'd never even met, so I cried because she cried... today I understand why she cried. My tears back then were for Mom... today, I get the big picture of where her tears flowed from. Time for all this madness to end. It's time for this part of history to end forever... enough. !!!!😢
Do you think it's the same today as it was then?
There's been some improvement, though very little. I just don't understand why black people have to keep getting down in the mud for rights to vote. Blood was shed for those Rights already. I wonder, exactly what are they afraid of.
@@theresa4863 what do you mean?
@@theresa4863 The chain of slavery still exist in mass incarceration: un 17, 2021 - The 13th Amendment may have outlawed the enslavement of Black people, but the United States continues to devise new ways to uphold the racist. So no, it has just become more sophisticated. White supremacy oppression is still alive and well today. We don’t wont it to be better, but to be eliminated period. Why would we wont anything less, would you?
@@shawday7911 that is not true! That's what we've been told, of course racism exists worldwide but not to the extent that the radicals have purported. We need to see there is an agenda at play here.
Thanks for sharing. I was 6 years old when Dr. MLK, Jr was murdered. I can remember my mom watching the funeral on a small black and white TV. She was crying. I remember me and brother was playing on the bed. I didn't have an understanding of what was happening but I have a vivid memory of that day.
i was he same age i remeber is coffin was pulled by mules
Wow, I was one year old when he was murdered. May God bless MLk Jr. He was a great and wonderful man thanks for sharing this historical footage. This is definitely rare. 🙏🏽❤️🇺🇸
I was 9yo. My aunt was married to one of Mrs. Coretta's uncles, Robert Scott, from Marion, Alabama. I was too young to understand the connection.
My Jesus I vividly remember hearing his death on our radio I was 12 years old
My Mother was 3 months pregnant with me. When I see this I feel like I was there. It’s overwhelming even til this day.
That was Rev Ralph Abernathy pleading for peace and calm. (2:43)
He had just turned 42 about a month prior to this. And died approximately 22 years after this.
It never clicked at the time passing through Atlanta on I-20 from NC back to Birmingham for years and seeing the signs dedicating the freeway to him.
I’m not American but this guy legend for changing and giving so much we all proud of what you did and what you change
Thank you, and may God bless you.
it's not about ethnicity goodness, he's African Descendant
Girl if you’re not American then you don’t know- this man was not what he was portrayed to be.
Why are they just now showing this? They should of showed this a long time ago.
I was a 13 year old teenager living in Durham, North Carolina. I remember this sad day as if it were yesterday.
I never knew they had footage like this
Thank you for sharing all this footage. It was not that long ago.
Pretty clear footage to be 55 years old.I think of those small children in this video. They would be in their late 60s or early 70s by now.
I was only 2yrs old when Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered. Looking at this I can feel the raw emotions taking place at that time. 😢
A day I and I'm sure many others will never ever forget. I remember as a little girl sitting in our living room when the news broke, I'm 66 years old the memory is so fresh 💔
I can see and sense the determination and desperation of the woman to see Dr. King while Rev. Abernathy was speaking...What measure of the man...
It must have been surreal.55 years later it's a amazing scene.
Martin Luther king did not believe in the Bible because Jesus said in Matthew 15:24 that Deuteronomy 32:8 . His dream speech said the opposite of scriptures.

Non violent man gets killed by the people he wants to be friend 🤦🏾♀️
Jesus did that.
I think that you should look deeper into King and his suggestions. He was never about making friends or getting along with white supremacists in any shape or form.
Shut up
@@simondilling5353 okay but technically He just wanted things to make sense and people to come together.. that’s what I think this comment is saying
@@alaneofmyown That may be true, but it would be to simplify his legacy to claim that he just wanted to get along with everybody like some naive hippie. The comment says that he was killed by the people he wanted to get along with. He was assassinated by a government agency which he never sought to get along with.
He was never about a superficial peace, but a genuine peace, which in the context of white supremacy, according to King could only be achieved through a confrontation with that problem and the people behind it, plus a transformation of that society.
God bless this dear man, love and respect from the UK 🇬🇧 🙏 ❤

Great 👍 video thanks 🙏 for sharing!
I was 10 years old in 1968 when Dr. King was assassinated and I remember over in another neighborhood big clouds of smoke from a building that had been set on fire after the news of Dr. King's death . I was scared to go out of my neighborhood because of all that was going on during those first few days . This is my first time seeing this and it did bring back those memories , my mom went to view Dr. Kings body , but she wouldn't let me and my brother's go because of the long lines that were there on into the night ( Just like the way it was when President Kennedy's body was in state in the Capital and those crowds ) and she didn't want us out late into the night . I did see Dr. King's funeral on tv ( which was on all of the networks ) and to see all those who came to Dr. King's funeral like Sammy Davis Jr. Bobby Kennedy , Jackie Kennedy , Ethel Kennedy ( Bobby's wife ) Eartha Kitt , Dianne Carroll , Nancy Wilson , Ozzie Davis , Ruby Dee , Harry Belafonte , Mahalia Jackson , Aretha Franklin , Berry Gordy , Stevie Wonder , Dianna Ross and others that attended his funeral , it was a like a who's who that came and that is one thing that I do remember and seeing this really brings me back to what was a such a sad day for all of us who were there to witness it in 1968 , one thing that I will never forget !
white folks was scared too lol
I was 4 years old. I have no memory of it during that time. The history books 📚 barley mentioned it.😐 Coretta Scott king looking beautiful 💜 as ever.
Still hurts in 2023!
The grief is unbearable. This is footage I had never seen, and I’m so grateful to Channel 2 for posting this bit of important history. I can only imagine how the world would have been had we been able to have Dr. King with us for longer.
Even now it makes you cry.
FBI and their Director Hoover did their sinful work well.
WoW it’s like yesterday The LOVE AND EMOTION I FEEL
Ralph David Abernathy is so articulate and has so much grave ❤ Martin Luther King is the greatest!!
I just wonder where are these people now
Me too! Many were young at that time. A few may be in their 80’ s or 90’s now. Many have probably passed on .
They felled a true Philosopher, a great man, a saint.
Awww I was 6yrs old and remember everyone crying. So I was crying just a lot of violence and sad times. Kids growing up in them times suffered a lot of trama!
If this was today's time! Woman would have had bonnets and pajamas on and men would have on skinny jeans sagging! We had so much pride back then!
extremely weird and off putting comment
YES - so much pride, and respect for the elders
So what if they would have that on that’s their business as to what they want to have on and your comment has no merit because from what I have seen in todays society we as a people still respect those who are being funeralized in action, deed as well as attire I’m not sure what planet you are on but your dead wrong and it is an irresponsible comment to make
@@jalynsmith6230 Not really. Honestly I get the comment. They were fighting fir us to have respect, to be treated with dignity but today WE don't even respect ourselves, we don't even act, behave or dress dignified. It's as if it was all in vein, almost. It may not have been relevant to you, and I respect that, but here, it was relevant and proper to insert.
Twerking in his honor...

They killed his brother too, said he drown in his home swimming pool but we know that's BS!
God have mercy on me. Still living it.
I was a child when he was assassinated living in D.C. It was really bad with the rioting, the city was set ablaze. This is still a sad sight after all these years.
I lived in Georgetown, DC when this happened. The tear gas and the national Guard troops on the streets. Family kept a loaded pistol within reach near the front door. Thank God it wasn’t needed.

One of the most darkest episodes in american history.
Silenced Forever!! But his I have a dream speech lives on.
He was everything that was right in this world. He fought for change. He gave his own life to make sure others could one day have a good life. Mrs. King was one of the strongest people I’ve ever seen. As much as she hurt, as much as her entire world imploded in a split second, she still carried on and continued his fight. It’s such a shame that here we are 40+ yrs later and there are still those that fight against what he was trying to do. If you’ve never been to DC and seen his monument, I highly recommend going. It’s one of the most beautiful and humbling sights I’ve ever seen ❤
He was a man of dignity and integrity. What a shame the liberals have made a mockery of all he accomplished.
