This is how to update your BIOS, but more focused on MSI. The process is mainly the same but only slightly varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Please remember to be patient and take your time reading.
To find your new downloadable BIOS, go to internet browser and type in the Motherboard model. You only need to copy the largest file to the thumb drive.

You only need the latest BIOS unless stated in the description section for each BIOS which in that case update to that BIOS first then to the latest
I downloaded the bios from msi
My board MSI H610M-E
What if it is a new build with and older but new b450 mobo and you have no other PC or flash drive? I can't have a working PC then??
I've done this at least 5 times but I always rewatch a video to ensure I don't screw it up, since it's permanent, thank you.

Warning for anyone that updates and then gets stuck with automatic repair screen. I updated my bios off a USB like in the video but then upon start up got stuck in a loop of windows failing to load and asking to repair the drive. My BIOS settings had been reset. Go into the bios and make sure it's booting off the correct drive. Mine was trying to boot off the wrong drive. After I swapped that back it loaded up fine.
I think this just happened to me been stressing for the last 45 minutes.

inb4, I know I have a boot loop issue but I'm too noob for generalized answers and too much of a miser to seek professional help. ..simply reinstalling my GPU driver took me 4 damn hours ;_;
These Boards should be able to work without bios updates with all chips they where made for, anything less is Bull Crap! Plain and simple.

I keep getting FSO: in my m- flash menu
I did everything in the video. Starting the update. Automatically restarted and not it’s just a black screen. My computer is on and fans are spinning but nothing is showing up on the screen. It’s been like 15 min.

Thank you for the little comment about 32gb or less flash drive! I've been dicking with getting a buddies firmware updated for over an hour and when you said that, we realized we were using a 64gb. Switched to a 32 and bam, reads it just fine. Thanks for that!

Hey guys if the bios file isn’t showing up when you try to use M-FLASH, remember to extract the files and move them outside of the “7BXXXX” folder. That made it finally show up for me

Thank you. I wanted to upgrade my 2700x to a 5700x processor on my X470. Followed your steps and worked perfectly. The only difference is that once you upgrade the BIOS, easy mode is gone. AMD got rid of the easy mode in the newer BIOS and you only have access to the advanced mode. However it is not difficult to maneuver in the advanced mode.

I DID IT !!!! hopefully my i9 doesn’t fry itself now. My first time updating bios,I WAS TERRIFIED. I updated off the C: drive, I didn’t use a thumb drive
Idk what I did wrong but my ssd shows up 3 times along with my flash drive and my flash drive doesn’t have anything it it even tho I copied the bios file from my computer. I also don’t know how to make sure it’s in the correct format

I bought a new graphics card (rx580) I noticed an improvement but I can tell I was heavily bottlenecked by my first gen ryzen.I just bought a ryzen 5 5600x and hoping it can be used on my B350M PRO-VDH. As i’m typing this I just finished updating bios and loaded back into windows. Just waiting on the cpu and i’ll let you know how it goes.

@@PlanetKryos Thank you again man I got the cpu in (amazon prime shipping is ridiculously fast) and it’s working with no hiccups. Running stress test right now to test stability. I got a little scared while taking out my old cpu fan it ripped out the old cpu with it while the latch was locked. Everything seems to be okay though.

I love tutorials like this. MSI makes no mention of using the motherboard USB for the update. Although it does say bios flash on the one USB. But I was trying to use the front panel I/O and it wouldn't register. Completely got me updated, cpu overclocked, and xmp profile enabled on a z790 tomahawk max wifi. Thanks!

Updating my AM4 to the R7 5800x3d and I had to update the bios, haven't done it in forever, you saved me for sure
My flashdrive with the update folder is labeled as a so it's not accesible.
At 2:50 the file in question for you is labeled as a sequence of numbers.
It's hard to articulate over text but it seems the file is not being detected correctly for me.
unsure how to remedy this.
Why is you bios file in a folder? I never show it in a folder
My motherboard is z790a max wifi also same when I enter the M-flash mode, after restart the indicator is fine, but there’s no signal for my display , it just stuck there

Read the pinned comment from me. Latest is what you want unless some of the BIOS descriptions state otherwise. Read them
I click on the file and it doesn’t say do you want to select this file. Helpful tips?
Update: I figured it out, you need to take the bios update file out of any folders and put it on the root of the usb drive. I had it in a folder that was extracted from the zip file.

This is insanity. I’m a new gaming PC user. You telling me we can’t just click a link and have it update? Am I missing something? Or is this only for a PC that isn’t finished being built yet.
Unless it is a laptop or you are using the sw for the specific motherboard manufacturer, you will always update it using a thumb drive. Either this way or flashback. This is the safest way to do it. I have many videos showing it. Not just for MSI

i didnt upgrade the bios since 4 years ago, is it dangerous to upgrade it now to the latest version?

Do you remove the flash drive before the 1st reboot or leave it in?
To be safe, leave it in until you get back in the UEFI or Windows

For this way it really doesn't matter which Port you're putting it in unless it does not see the USB then switch it to a different port

I was worried, I thought I should rename the bios file like some brands but that was easy, thanks for the video btw.
I named mine MSI.ROM should i put the name back to the original or it doesnt matter?

You only need to rename it of you are flashing the bios via no cpu

Okay, so i prepared the usb stick with the latest update for my bios, but when i go into m-flash it keep saying media not found. Used different usb ports, nothing. Checked the usb stick format so its not the wrong one, its exfat, so that should be okay....
The usb stick connects just fine to my laptop, but when i try to connect it to my pc unit, its not reading it,
Someone told me to try renaming the bios update file 'MSI.ROM'. Tried that and still nothing.

Try one of these 2 things. Format to FAT32 like I say or you might not have the actual bios file on the drive. Make sure it is the only file and not in a folder. Also, the bios is going to be the largest file size in the extracted folder that you downloaded. Sometime ppl grab the wrong file, thinking it was that one.

Hey, I just tried to update my b450m bazooka plus, via the method shown in the video. After I select the flash setting and reboot, I just get a black screen. The cpu and ram are powered, but I dont see the options to select the usb file. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Try again with a different port

when I go to bios it say the version is two years old, but when entering m-flash there is no file to update, just my thumb drive.
Soumds like you dont have the bios file on the thumbdrive. Make sure it is not in a folder

after adding a new cpu processor my computer wont boot past my msi arsenal gaming screen so im updating my bios. I wonder if it has anything to do with me upgrading from a ryzen 7 1700 to the 1700x lol
YUP fixed my pc failing to boot up after the MSI Screen thank you soooo much. okay so i bent the pins on my old cpu while trying to clean it because my amd thermal paste was literally glued dry to my processor from like 4 years ago and so when i took the heat sink my whole cpu chip came out with it and i guess i was roughhousing a bit and bent up the pins. Ordered a ryzen 1700x to replace my 1700 and when i went to boot windows up it was stuck on the MSI bootscreen and the loading circles bar would freeze so I went into the BIOS and updated to the latest bios for my tomahawk b3450 Mboard
went from the factory default 7A34AM5100 (2017) to the current 7A34v1Q8(Beta version) (2023)
Studio computer is back up and running and boot time about 5 seconds faster

You can use that port, but doesn't matter which port in the way I show updating through the bios. That port is if you are doing a flash back without going through the bios.
had a question I have a msi b550 gaming plus i want to upgrade to a newer cpu but I’d have to update my bios would I have to disassemble the entire pc to update or no ?

I’m haveing issuse with bios updates. My motherboard is msi x470 gaming plus and my cpu is a ryzen 5 5500, I went on to msi website to update my bios and all was running smoothly, however when the reboot was done it kept going in to bios and it would be half English half chines, even if the language was changed

Hi im new to pc building and im about to build my b760 tomahawk wifi ddr4, do i need to download the latest bios in the support page which is currently "7D96v18" or just check if there will be any problem with current bios my motherboard will have? The MSI support service said only download it if there are abnormalities in my PC. can you give some advise if having the stock bios is better or the "7D96v18" is a must?

Hey, after you download the file from the internet and place it into the flashdrive, do u still need internet connection to update the bios? Because im scared my internet is not stable and may go off at any second of the day, so ist safe or u dont need internet at all!
No internet connection is needed when you download it from the internet put it on a thumb drive and install it that way you only need an internet connection if you're updating it via internet
hello, i want to update my PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI bios, however on the msi page there is the bios download and the 2 other things under in small text with (download) next to them, what are these files do i need them,
- ME Firmware ver: ME_16.1.32.2473 (download)
- ME Firmware update SOP thats what is says.
My bios won’t update from 32 GB but will recognize an 8 GB usb and yes it’s formatted correctly

Make sure you have the right file, meaning the bios. It should be the largeas file in the download. I have seen some USB drives not work but it is rare. Try another 2.0 port or another drive. Let me know

so im pretty sure in on an old bios am5 x670e tomahawk Wi-Fi motherboard... when I initially turn on my pc i get a dram and boot light on my mobo but after about 30 seconds both lights go out and my monitor turns on and everything works just fine do you think i should update the bios or just let it be

To be safe, just use your current cpu in it and update the bios then replace the cpu

i have a MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI with a 161 Beta BIOS. Since the Issue with melting Ryzen CPUs because of the 1.5V VSOC, when enabing XMP / EXPO, I still have my DDR5 6000 CL32 at stock Value (4800 CL40).
There is a new BIOS 172(beta) which SHOULD fix the VSOC Issue but my worries are that if i update the BIOS, that it somehow fails to boot or still kills my CPU when enabling XMP.

in the website i noticed you downloaded the 9/6 ver but in the bios it said the built date was 9/01, what’s up with that?
Could have been a beta bios or something like that but I have the correct bios there was nothing to fear

Not all the time. If it works, it works. Older MBs will not see some of the other formats. Try it and see
So when I click on the file I want to select in mflash under my usb stick it completely disappears and won’t pop up with “are you sure you want to select this file.” Followed all other steps correctly.

Im not able to even get a signal to monitor to get into bios, I messed around with something i shouldnt with kali linux and cant get a display nothing when starting my pc the next day. :( Would doing this with a usb and flash button possibly fix this ? Thanks!

hi i built my pc like a week ago, and when i first booted it up it took me straight to the windows set up and i couldnt get bios up. i shut down and turned on and managed to click the ssd but i still cant get my bios up and im not sure how to go around this
Hello built my pc 3 years ago, and now when I shut down the pc the fans and rgb stay on and don’t shutdown. Will updating bios help with this.

do you have to set the usb with the bios on it to the front of the boot priority to get it to show up because when i go into flash mode, the flash drive doesn't even show up. all i see are my current hard drives
Make sure it is formatted in fat32 and use a USB drive 16GB or smaller
does updating msi bios take care of chipset drivers? why would anyone update any other drivers beside the updated version of bios?

Yes but you will be possibly missing out on using 4th gen ssd or there might be a M.2 that will not work. It is best to check the MF site for your MB
