Yeah, for so many years, I didn't know. I heard that out guitar-solo uncovered when Rick Beato featured it in one of his videos, and he recommended turning it up at the end so you can hear it.
Some years ago he appeared with America and did an absolutely ripping solo in the middle of a very extended Horse With No Name. It was really eye-opening.
@@gordoh7634 Yes, the Rick Beato episode I think was titled "the greatest guitar solo you can't hear" because it was really mixed in pretty low-key. Rick has the separate tracks for this song so was able to play JUST the guitar part.
The Album "Sailing" was launched in 1979. En los Grammys de 1980 recibió en una misma gala y por primera vez en la historia, los 4 premios principales: mejor grabación, mejor canción, mejor álbum y mejor artista novel. De este álbum destacan las canciones “Sailing”, “Ride Like the Wind” y “Never Be the Same”.
I'm 48, grew up with Boston, Sabbath, Ozzy, KISS, Metallica, Maiden, GNR, AIC, Scorpions, Head Bangers Ball, etc etc in my room. But I also heard Motown, '70s Singers & Writers, Outlaw country, Yacht rock, 80s soft rock, Synth Pop, etc from my parents and much older sister. It all creates a purer sound pallet. Nobody interesting just listens to one genre. Even our Thrash and heavy heroes grew up on much different music than what they themselves play.
@Resistculturaldecline I agree 💯 growing up I also heard lots of music from my parents & older siblings. That's why I love VERY diverse genres of music. My playlists would confuse anyone. 😄🎶🎤 Last year just for fun we went to see 2 of my mom's favorites, Johnny Mathis & Barry Manilow. Both actually gave VERY impressive shows, even at their age their voice and energy is very high quality and quite impressive. 🙏🏻
Same, 55 here, grew up in the Upper Mississippi River Valley of SE Minnesota. I don't even own a Yacht and blast some Yacht Rock🤘 Michael Mcdonald is a machine💪
What a band! The camera didn't spend much time on all the other band members, but I recognized Steve Gadd, Alex Acuña, Dave Koz, Bobby Shew, and Kim Carnes. And, I agree with others -- Chris can kick some major arse on guitar solos! Rip away, man!
You only have to get about a minute into this before you realize it’s actually Michael McDonalds band and Christopher Cross is just the back-up singer and lead guitarist. McDonald WAS the sound of the era and drove everything.
Quite a statement to have an artist the caliber of Michael McDonald comfortable in this backup role, augmenting Chris but not at all stealing his limelight.
I've seen Christopher Cross twice 💫1st time was a no alcohol concert in Branson, before they made the Branson landing and a free concert at the Jordan Valley park in Springfield, Missouri 🦩I'm a huge fan of both Christopher Cross and Micheal Macdonald ✌️💙🤩
This song is so nastalgic. This remind me of my childhood..This song would be playing in every store on Fordham road in the Bronx Ny while we did our first day of school shopping
Amazingly gifted artists! Think about this....they each have been entertaining us for 50+/- years!!! A combined 100 years of talent! And they sound as good, if not better than ever!!!! Not to mention....looking fantastic!
Chris Cross was in a band called Heather Black in Houston, TX in the 70s. I met him at a joint called "Village Inn Pizza" in the Montrose area. He played a Les Paul Custom (Black Beauty) and he tore it up. He's a very underrated guitarist, and his lead on RLTW (original recording) was so buried in the mix that it's a sin. What an amazing first album he made.
I thought this was the GREATEST song as a kid when it came out .... what ..now 40 years later my kids know this song from some video game and they love it as much as I do.
I also remember those days back in the Boogie Down Bx on Fordham Road singing along and snapping my fingers while shopping. Ahh those were the days. Music is not made like those any more.😊
Listening to Christopher Cross and Michael McDonald on this always puts me in a better place!
The Best !
Good music will always do that for sure!💫🎶❤️
Michael McDonald com uma humildade gigante participando até dos coros. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
We're so lucky that Michael McDonald's voice has hardly changed in 40+ years. It really is amazing.
This video is 23 years old, btw. But he does still sound great today
@@thenerktwins You're right I didn't realize this was old. They do look young for being released on Y. T. 3 days ago, thanks 👍
One of the most underrated guitar solos in pop music.
@steffendass4169 So true! It's so buried in the mix on the debut album.
Why would they bury a great guitar solo? It should be up front.
The album version of this song needs to be remixed to justify how good the guitar solo was and how good is Christopher Cross as a guitarist.
Indeed! I never knew it was him playing the solo. Always assumed it was a session musician.
Yeah, for so many years, I didn't know. I heard that out guitar-solo uncovered when Rick Beato featured it in one of his videos, and he recommended turning it up at the end so you can hear it.

You are right. Most of us thought someone else was playing the guitar. He sings so well we all think of him as just a singer
@@gordoh7634 Yes, the Rick Beato episode I think was titled "the greatest guitar solo you can't hear" because it was really mixed in pretty low-key. Rick has the separate tracks for this song so was able to play JUST the guitar part.
Cross and Mcdonald compliment each other
McDonald compliments everyone.
best guitar solo you can barely hear
Agree! Recorded version, too ... Rick Beato does a nice job isolating that guitar sound in one of his videos. Really is a nice solo.
Still can’t hear it. Turn off the backing vocals and let’s hear his solo. Damm
Yeah, indeed, the background singers drowned out the solo, Ugh!!
He's doing pretty well as far as I can tell as far as the guitar solo is maybe you should turn your phone up
@@kellypatterson2537yeah Rick played it but seeing it is so much better.
Finally Rick Beato can hear the outro 😊 ! Just had to stop what I was doing and listen to this....Thank you Cris
I love Christopher Cross. He and Michael did an awesome job!
Its a miracle..my blood pressure just left the building..no medication but this phenom is needed..🇨🇦
Nice to see Chris up there. It had been probably 20 years since 'Sailing' and 'Ride like the Wind.' He had a great style.

@Timothy-Lemm Yeah.Michael and Chris look like grandpas now.😊🥰
I'm a rocker slash heavy metal dude, but this shit I've been loving since my childhood....... I'm 49

yacht rock at its finest. those gorgeous vocals by michael mcdonald and that solo by christopher cross. dude can wail on the guitar!

Timeless masterpiece. Damn, Chris is also an incredible guitarist!!
This song is one of those song where you were like "nah" the first time but the second time you listen to it you're in love with it.
I always loved it.
Christopher Cross, truly an underrated great of our time.
These two guys are Great. The belong in

C. C. is an underated guitar player. In a longer version of this song it's apparent 🎸
Such a classic song, he still sounds good!
Two great songwriters together.
Superb vocal blend too.
Great stuff.
The band and backgrround singers understood the assignment!

Thank you so much Mr. Cross! You have no idea sir.
Thankful for that fateful southwest US roadtrip.

The level of musicianship in this performance is insane, pure pleasure to my ears
I had the good fortune to see Mr. McDonald in concert, oh, about 20-years ago or so. Such an incredible singer and song writer.
My favorite Steely Dan was with Michael McDonald
Another of the great ones that Rick Beato has helped people to recognize.
Great SOLO at the end by Christopher
This song has SUCH a great groove...the bassist and drummer are as tight as a gnat's you know what!
The best music and decade I’m so glad this was my childhood 😮
You and me both, theres thousands like us out there, Happy holidays, stay safe.

The greatest drummer, percussionist and singer of the 80s.

Some of the best music of my childhood starting in the seventies for me
This is one of my favorite songs
Einfach immer noch ein toller Song.
I'm glad he made sure to include the solo at the end!@
Absolutely fun to see and hear this! All on stage nailed their performances. Loved the backing vocalists' punchy harmonies. Thanks Chris!
🎶”Such a long way to go…” Love MMcD on this one!
Finally, the best rock solo you never get to hear is finally heard..... 🙂 Great music from great musicians and singers, from a great era
I never knew that Christopher was such a great guitar player.
Timeless and Rick Beato won't say that we can't hear the guitar solo this time 🙂
Both those gentleman have given so much joy to the world with their talent. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and bless you.
Underrated legend.
The sound of 1980. Both of them sound as they did then; amazing.
I love the music of Christopher Cross. ❤

The guitar solo in this is killer and on the original recording gets hidden under so much other stuff.
