      I think it’s also because his guitar solo in the original recording got buried in the mix. You can hear bits and pieces of it if you listen closely but it’s definitely not as prominent as it is in this live performance. A shame, really.

      Get a halfway decent stereo and some good headphones and listen to this song on his first album. The solo is buried in the mix but he absolutely just rips it up. I picked up on it way back then but was so disappointed that there wasn't more where that came from. Poor guy hit the scene when record producers were becoming narrow minded and, of course, MTV executives were all idiots. He didn't get much video play because he didn't look like the effeminate L.A. rockstar.

      There were many session players on the album for the guitar solos, Jay Graydon, Larry Carlton etc, when CC was so much better. Also, during the Club days CC covered Low Spark of High Heel Boys and it was AMAZING. His voice was spot on BUT the truly great part was CC playing the Roger Hawkins Sax solo on lead guitar. Never been able to find a bootleg of that unbelievable song.

This continued every day for about a week. It was haunting and naturally a bit unnerving. WHO was calling me and WHAT was this incredible song?? Well, several weeks later I found out my older brother was pranking me and I guess he just knew I would love the song. Needless to say I bought that album within the week and wore it out. Kind of neat seeing a soft spoken fellow, known for his mellow hits, start wailing on the guitar... and doing a mighty fine job of it. Pretty kick ass guitar player, I'd say. I remember some his songs had some nice guitar solos. Never knew it was him. Until a few years ago, I assumed he was a piano/keyboard player, since his songs were very keyboard oriented.

    • @renaissongsmann8889
      @renaissongsmann8889 5 років тому +2

      He played on this one and maybe one other tune on the debut album (solos, I mean ---not sure who did the rhythm work). Jay Graydon had the solo on "Say You'll Be Mine", and Larry Carlton had one or two (I think "The Light is On", at least). Eric Johnson played an extended solo on "Minstrel Gigolo". Not sure about later albums ... kinda wish I'd kept up.
