I never knew he played the solo on this song until I checked out the CD from the library a few months ago...I'd always assumed he was just a rhythm guitarist.
I think it’s also because his guitar solo in the original recording got buried in the mix. You can hear bits and pieces of it if you listen closely but it’s definitely not as prominent as it is in this live performance. A shame, really.

Get a halfway decent stereo and some good headphones and listen to this song on his first album. The solo is buried in the mix but he absolutely just rips it up. I picked up on it way back then but was so disappointed that there wasn't more where that came from. Poor guy hit the scene when record producers were becoming narrow minded and, of course, MTV executives were all idiots. He didn't get much video play because he didn't look like the effeminate L.A. rockstar.

This is possibly my favorite of all music. Just found out that Christopher is my neighbor a few houses down. Haven't met him, but hope to someday. He has been very ill but has almost recovered and has been out biking quite a lot. Just a great human being. And animal lover as well.

I've listened to many versions of Christopher singing Ride Like the Wind but this is the best track by far. Absolutely amazing vocals by both these fantastic artists. I don't know the lady on percussion but huge shout out to her, gives this an added dimension. Just wonderful, and I'm nearly 70!

A lot of folks don’t realize the solo is on the album version , it’s just down so low everything else drowns it out. The solo is kinda hidden. CC is so underrated
There were many session players on the album for the guitar solos, Jay Graydon, Larry Carlton etc, when CC was so much better. Also, during the Club days CC covered Low Spark of High Heel Boys and it was AMAZING. His voice was spot on BUT the truly great part was CC playing the Roger Hawkins Sax solo on lead guitar. Never been able to find a bootleg of that unbelievable song.
This date, 4/20, Chris who lives in Austin, has been fighting Coronavirus. Best wishes and good health! Did you know he won five Grammy's on award night.. Very few have that distinction.

This song was huge when I went to Air Force Tech School at the beginning of my career in Wichita Falls, TX in Sept 1980. The best radio station I could get played soft rock and I would hear this song or Sailing almost every night before going to bed. It sure brings back the memories!
Before I had heard this song, back when it was first released, I kept getting a mysterious phone call where no one spoke; they just played the refrain of this glorious song and then they’d hang up the phone. This continued every day for about a week. It was haunting and naturally a bit unnerving. WHO was calling me and WHAT was this incredible song?? Well, several weeks later I found out my older brother was pranking me and I guess he just knew I would love the song. Needless to say I bought that album within the week and wore it out. What a great song and a great memory.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about this video is that at the very height of the Golden Era of flamboyant leather and spandex-wearing lipstick and eye rouge hair metal shredders a seriously balding guy who looked like the night manager at your local Pizza Hut was cutting-heads, kicking ass, and taking names.

I could never figure out how many versions of this song really exist. Wherever one listens to the song (CD, car etc) you hear different features. Simply an amazing song.
Kind of neat seeing a soft spoken fellow, known for his mellow hits, start wailing on the guitar... and doing a mighty fine job of it. Pretty kick ass guitar player, I'd say. I remember some his songs had some nice guitar solos. Never knew it was him. Until a few years ago, I assumed he was a piano/keyboard player, since his songs were very keyboard oriented.
He played on this one and maybe one other tune on the debut album (solos, I mean ---not sure who did the rhythm work). Jay Graydon had the solo on "Say You'll Be Mine", and Larry Carlton had one or two (I think "The Light is On", at least). Eric Johnson played an extended solo on "Minstrel Gigolo". Not sure about later albums ... kinda wish I'd kept up.
.. and the reason for the "keyboard orientation" was his lifelong musical partnership with Rob Meurer and the fact that the producer for the first two records was Michael Omartian; both very good pianist/keyboardists...
The summer I turned 15, I bought this album. The original, not the "very best of". He was awesome, it was an awesome summer. 1982, I lived on the beach in Corpus Christie Texas. Memories..... :)
I just turned 40 two days ago and just discovered this cool song. By the looks of Christopher Cross in this video, he looks like a guy who works in an IT company or a school principal, but he's the coolest guy in the room.
i used to listen to Christopher Cross in a friends car, at very high volumes.he had a great car stereo from Clarion with two loudspeakers mounted in the back seats... and two subs...and 30years as passed.

Christopher Cross is such a great guitarist the man and his instrument becomes one when he plays.
Kind of neat seeing a soft spoken fellow, known for his mellow hits, start wailing on the guitar... and doing a mighty fine job of it. Pretty kick ass guitar player, I'd say. I remember some his songs had some nice guitar solos. Never knew it was him. Until a few years ago, I assumed he was a piano/keyboard player, since his songs were very keyboard oriented.
He played on this one and maybe one other tune on the debut album (solos, I mean ---not sure who did the rhythm work). Jay Graydon had the solo on "Say You'll Be Mine", and Larry Carlton had one or two (I think "The Light is On", at least). Eric Johnson played an extended solo on "Minstrel Gigolo". Not sure about later albums ... kinda wish I'd kept up.

.. and the reason for the "keyboard orientation" was his lifelong musical partnership with Rob Meurer and the fact that the producer for the first two records was Michael Omartian; both very good pianist/keyboardists...
The summer I turned 15, I bought this album. The original, not the "very best of". He was awesome, it was an awesome summer. 1982, I lived on the beach in Corpus Christie Texas. Memories..... :)

I just turned 40 two days ago and just discovered this cool song. By the looks of Christopher Cross in this video, he looks like a guy who works in an IT company or a school principal, but he's the coolest guy in the room.
I love this song and Michael Mc Donald sounds amazing on any song he's on.

i used to listen to Christopher Cross in a friends car, at very high volumes.he had a great car stereo from Clarion with two loudspeakers mounted in the back seats... and two subs...and 30years as passed.
