They need to close off that bridge at least during the search. To me, it seems brutally insensitive to be jumping off if it when they are still searching for these two young men.

When I was a kid back in the early 70's I vacationed on "The Island" for lots of years and jumped off that bridge all the time. The important thing to note was to be very careful if you are jumping on a rushing tide and if you must, do it within a hour or so of high tide. At half rushing tide you can see a 7 or 8 knot current that doesn't disperse because it is so shallow in the sound for 1/4 mile off shore. Might as well be the ocean. If you take a look at the Police Officers standing on the bridge you can see how fast the water is moving. The water will be super warm coming out of the pond but then you hit the cold water in the sound like a wall which can be disorienting. We usually jumped on a running tide and got swept into the pond, much safer. So sorry for these guys and their families.

As someone who has jumped off every bridge on the vineyard from oak bluffs to Edgartown..running tide is by far the safest and smartest tide/time to jump off you could ride the current miles down through the pond.RIP situational awareness is key

The difference between day and night is light. Those children are jumping off in the day light when then can see each other and what is around them, my country men and fellow Jamaicans jumped off in the midnight when it is pitch black. How smart is that?

It's like a 8 foot drop, it's not that crazy - they jumped at 11 at night which means they were most likely drunk. Also, if you're not paying attention and the current is strong then yeah it's a bad idea. But I just jumped that bridge this summer, it's really not a huge deal so long as you're not drunk, doing it at night, and when the tidal current is strong

This is scary. My condolences to the family. What’s sick is that even when policemen were out in boats, looking for the two bodies, there were tourists STILL lined up to get a chance to dive in.
If you’re stuck in a current, lie on your back and float. The water will carry you around, but back eventually. It’s like quicksand: the more you panic and struggle, the deeper you go.

At first it looks scary especially at 0:07 with the water rushing by so fast but at 0:35 that looks fun, and because everyone is doing it, it looks pretty safe for someone who can swim or is just going to walk across. This is a very missleading bridge, they should build a small dam bridge to stop water from flowing so fast, ...the current is probably what killed them , i use to think those mini tornados in the water were cute when i was 10 but one took me down and i fought to get back out, even came to terms with the fact that i was going to die before the current stopped pulling me down, but when i did make it out omg there was people looking for a 2 kids that had just drowned an hour before my incident.

When i was 20, me and two of my friends on a spur of the moment decision laid down in a divot on the side of a railroad bridge. It was a stupid idea and we were lucky to survive, as when the train went over us, the metal ladders that hang off the side, were inches from our bodies, actually might have been a literal inch. All i could do is lay there watching bars of steel fly past my face and wait for it to be over. I even lifted my head at one point before the train was fully over us and I remember think when I saw the first ladder, that that's where my head just was. It's unfortunate that these two didn't make it out of what seemed like a harmless decision.

The kids are good swimmers in this video. As configured that bridge is safe as long as there’s no boat traffic or current and it’s deep enough. It’s a very short drop. You just need to be a strong swimmer. The men who died were grown men, in their 20’s and migrants who likely had no experience in current or water deep enough to drown.

Give all jumpers a 600.$00, fine, they jump they pay, they refused, they go to jail, all people and animals. That might stop it or refuse to go looking for them, and say your on your own, if you come up missing you come up missing.
