    "doing this with a 14" is basically impossible"
    Haha, said to a person whose boss is too cheap to have multiple stone saw blades at once... I've done 45s for a decade with a big ass quick cut! The idea that a smaller saw would be easier actually blew my mind and will definitely be the way I go on this next project

      Haha. I have a big 14 inch. It does make it more difficult. I’m not very good on the 14 inch to be honest. I haven’t used it that much that small saw is awesome and it works so well.

    Seems like if you set strings to the backside of the coping it would be more accurate to line up (with the sharp edge) and less in the way of where you are working.

    My pool needs new coping, watching your video reminds me to get the professionals in and not try it myself. It sounds easy enough, just laying out but getting those cuts perfect so that it looks good is a skill that is learnt over many jobs. Just want to mention one thing - if there is any silica or similar in the air when you are power cutting then a mask is a must. Silica is the new asbestos.

    I assumed the joints on the coping were epoxy filled like a countertop seam.. another question if the Client wants a baja shelf/sun shelf whats the pool material choice for the that 6 inch bottom. Chair legs could be an issue

    • @jonport_
      @jonport_  2 місяці тому +1

      You could epoxy them but i left them open. This is a fiberglass shell so for the sun shelf they have chairs that work and wont damage. Is that what you meant?

      @@jonport_ Correct, So a vinyl pool liner type system is a no no for a sun shelf. I’m not to familiar with Fiberglass pools.

      @@BZ1340a thicker mm liner shouldn’t have an issue. The chairs that you put on tanning shelves are made specifically for tanning shelves. They’ve got a flat bottom and can be filled with water to weigh it down. If you were to just put a patio chair on it with legs, then you may run into a problem

    Can you elaborate on how you decide on a vinyl liner pool VS fiberglass? Do you give customers the option? Is the cost to the customer comparable? Which option makes you more profit as a business? Are there a lot of gunite pool builders you compete against?

    • @jonport_
      @jonport_  7 місяців тому +2

      We do fiberglass mainly because that’s what the customers want. The price is the same as vinyl, and we do make more money on the fiberglass because we can install them faster.

    • @jonport_
      @jonport_  2 місяці тому

      @@lascellespowelljr.1109 a simple way would just get a Landscapeing adhesive for stonework. Other than that, you’d have to pull the stone up and grind it down and reset it. You would need an angle grinder with a concrete bit blade, concrete, chisel, mason trowels hammer level, and mortar.

    Once the coping is in place and set up, do you go back and pack grout / mortar on the underside between the bottom of the paver overhang and the top of the pool wall (this is on the inside - water side - of the pool)? If not, do you fill this with silicone?

      Not at all. I feel like its less maintenance when you but them close and it look really good. You do end up with about a 1/32 to 1/16 gaps sometimes depending on the stones which look perfectly fine in my opinion.
