    Watch me walk around Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh Cambodia, while I discuss the 3 options for becoming an English teacher through AVSE TESOL. They are government accredited and are the best choice when choosing Cambodia or Vietnam. Many Tefl programs partner with AVSE and end up sending you here anyway. Its better to cut them out and just apply directly. Let them know you heard of it from me. If you already have your TEFL or TESOL certificate, they have a jobs program for you to check out. link above

    A great way to offer support to your subscribers. The video is very encouraging, and together with your other “how to” videos, makes the viewer feel at ease on how to go about becoming an English teacher abroad. Well done! 👏❤

    For someone who wishes to teach a subject other than English, are there possibilities in Cambodia?

      @@saddq1 yes there are. Like math and science. I only taught English myself but I have friends who also taught other core subjects

    Hey Tom, I am loving your videos so far, great stuff! Anyways, I am very interested in teaching abroad, especially in Asia but I am non-native and don't have a degree yet. Would you say that finishing my BA degree in English which would take me about two years in my home country would be better than moving to Cambodia without one? Or maybe the job opportunities are plenty enough and I can manage without a degree just a TEFL?

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  2 місяці тому +1

      You don’t need a degree for Cambodia- but most other countries do need one. So having one would keep your options open if u wanna teach in Vietnam or other countries

      @@TomTripsOut I figured that because I am non-native it'd be wiser to get a degree then move out to Cambodia. However, if it wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world to land a job in my current position in Cambodia then I can definitely go there, and probably even finish my bachelor there to boost my credentials. What do you reckon Tom? Thanks for getting back to me so soon.

      @@ismailaskhatir6708 that’s a good idea I think, working on that while in Cambodia. The 4 week TESOL course is intensive tho, so for those 4 weeks you probably won’t have time for the university stuff. But after that it’d be fine

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  Місяць тому +1

      @@sheenamariep.goloyugo6323 yes they have a program specifically geared towards setting you up with a job. You must already have a TEFL to take this program. It’s called “Teaching Jobs Abroad Program” - it’s 9 days , you go to schools and observe teachers at different age levels, and then you go back and take over the class for an hour as practice. Several different times. Then coming out of it they line you up with Job interviews. www.avse.edu.vn
      Let them know I told ya about it 🙏

    Yo Tom, I am really interested in moving to Cambodia but I have some hesitations about it all. Not only am I not a native english speaker, but I also don't have a degree. However, my english is pretty good, heck I even have some novels online with hundreds of thousands of views. Wait, do you think I could maybe mention those novels in my CV? Would they help?

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  2 місяці тому +1

      I think it’s ok to include it on your CV but it won’t be the deciding factor. From reading this comment your English is extremely good. 👍 I think you would be fine. - Degree is not needed here. I don’t have one either. Being a non native speaker it possible you might make slightly less. I’ll give you the E-mail to the director of the course. If you reach out they will do a free zoom call and you can ask them everything. “Peter@avse.edu.vn”

    Hey Tom.Thanks for all of the heads up.I do feel though that it's quite easier for you white skinned native speakers of English.I am from Nigeria but really love to take this course with AVSC basically online due to cost.Still I don't know if the odds are quite favourable for me

      There are many Africans teaching here, but you’re right that it can be more challenging to find work because sometimes African teachers experience prejudice. Also If you have a degree you could work in Vietnam. It’s worth reaching out to AVSE and see what they think. They will do a zoom call with you and you could talk about your concerns and see what they say

    Are there part time only positions available or do they want full time?

    • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  3 місяці тому +2

      It’s mostly full time at public and International schools cause the students classes are shuffled all throughout the day so you could have English anytime from morning till 430. If you are only available in the mornings you wouldn’t be able to teach your afternoon classes and etc. BUT part time IS more commonly available at language centers. I am currently working part time at one right now. Teaching online is another path where you can set your own hours

    • @TomTripsOut

      I think you can. Usually once you send in an application they reach out to you and schedule a zoom call to answer all your questions and discuss the program. At that point they would be able to tell if you can speak English. It doesn’t hurt to send them an email. Make sure you mention Tom Trips Out
